Since 2014, I have bought various clothing from Tom James. My First purchase was a package (from the Corporate Image level) that included 2 suits, 4 shirts, 4 ties, Allen Edmonds shoes and a matching belt. Additionally, I have probably ordered a dozen shirts, a few pairs of dress slacks, a blazer and some casual pants as well. All in all I have been happy with everything I have gotten from them...except one rain coat I bought on close out that was not a custom made piece and did not fit at all so I donated it. I started off with a clothier downtown, Courtney Hoglund who was great, but I hated going to the city so transferred to a gentlemen, Jeff Mix, in the suburbs who now takes care of any needs I have. Both were / are wonderful to work with.Attached are the shirts I most recently got!Would recommend them for sure.

Now with that same visualization, go one step further see yourself in a suit where the jacket button-holes are functional and the trousers are precisely tailored for you. It’s a great feeling. When I look good, I feel good. The cut and quality of the suits would be difficult to match with most major high-end men’s shops and these are only some of the features that I can share.I have very specific ideas of how I want my clothing to look on me. Tyler Vincent, who is my Tom James clothier, works within my tastes and on occasion will introduce something new. Most of the time, I remain constant to my own style, but I like to have other options presented.Understand, the Tom James clothiers are new business driven; however, whether I’m satisfied with one purchase or none, I don’t feel pressured to decide on additional items. This, I appreciate.For newcomers, I recommend having a sport jacket constructed and made. You’ll never want to buy off the rack again.

Completed my first fitting and purchase through their trunk sale. Was able to snag two of the best looking fabrics I’ve seen in awhile for 1/3 the price. The process was top notch and my clothier Justin Thomas was spot on in everything I wanted and detailing to my style specifically. I am awaiting the final product and inauguration of the fitting before any final tweaks to be made but 5/5 thus far. I think more so than anything, was Justin’s attention to detail in the tailoring and measurements. I’ve been measured for many suits for custom tailoring but no one paid attention to the detail the way he did. This suit should be absolutely perfect with the amount of time and detail he put into making sure my fit was good.

I’ve been working with Dan at Tom James for a year or so to help beef up my work wardrobe, and have been completely impressed by the customer service, quality, and selection of fabrics and options. Dan will come to my office, he brings selections of materials for me to look through, and we go through whatever options for lining, buttons, details that I’d like to add....all with the expert advice from Dan to help make these pieces really stand out hem I wear them. It doesn’t get any better than this, no lines, no crowds, no hassles. Dan also remembers my likes and dislikes, offers excellent suggestions, and helps me navigate the changing trends....try to get that from someone at a store on Michigan Avenue! I get compliments each time I wear one of their suits/sport coats, the quality/detail really shows.

I have been a Tom James customer for three years now. The best thing I can say is that in those three years, I have received more compliments about my clothing than the 37 years before it put together. The Tom James team does a great job of getting to know your style - but also push you to expand it and grow. Now I even surprise my wife with some of the interesting choices we make.The staff is extremely accommodating. They come to my office and my home on my schedule. They are always responsive and take care of any issues right away. I even called once two weeks prior to a black tie event and they were able to get a tux custom made for me! I am a busy professional and I hate shopping for clothes but I actually enjoy it with Tom James. If you are willing to pay more for individualized service, then you will get your monies worth at Tom James.

My son knew I was getting frustrated finding a good suit maker. He had been working with Tom James and his sales person John Burton. I just had two suit made by another Chicago Clothier and mentioned to him that no one understands body types. If the trend is skinny fit they will fit you, even though you told them you didnt like that look. Result was two custom suits that I looked like 10 pounds in a 5 pound bag.John Burton called me and mentioned that my son told him I was aggravated and was giving up on finding a good company and tailor that cared. He asked for a opportunity and with my sons recommendation John designed a suit around my likes and body type. First night I wore the suit two people commented on fabric and fit. With that I ordered a shirt and sport coat. First night I wore the coat I had three compliments and they where not family.Cant brag enough on my salesman John and the company. Just ordered a new sport coat yesterday.

Very well rounded service with kind and knowledgeable clothiers who take the time to learn your individual style. They offer a wide variety of fabrics for suits, shirts and pretty much anything else you can think of. Dominick is very professional and great to work with.

Had a great experience with a custom tux for my wedding and kept coming back for customer shirts, sport coats, and suits. Great quality product that fits like nothing youve bought off the rack (even if you tailor it afterwards). Also the cool patterns and bells-and-whistles makes a unique product which gets noticed time and time again. Aside from the clothing itself, my experience with Matt K has been awesome. He listens, learns your preferences, prepares ideas in advance, and helps you fill the gaps in your closet. Most importantly, he isnt pushy and works with you to find gems at the price point youre comfortable with. You just dont get hand crafted quality and customer experience like this with the other companies. Give these guys a try, you wont regret it...

Have been going to Tom James almost exclusively for anything from business casual to professional attire for about half a year. The customer service has been amazing, they have high quality products at a great value, and the fit has been on point. The office is in the heart of the loop and very accessible. I’d highly recommend TJ for those who are looking for well made and high quality custom made clothing.

They spammed our cell phone number. We never had any interaction with this place at all and got a call out of the blue. It had us thinking something was wrong with an order we have elsewhere because we werent sure if they were affiliated in some way. They were not. After two days of wondering, we still have no idea how they got our number. They tried to say that someone had probably stopped in and recommended their services for us. No. No one we know has ever used them.

So far so good. I met with my clothier, Dan, who came to my office. It was a great experience - hes knowledgeable about the products and answered all my questions. The process couldnt have been easier. I placed my first order and am just waiting for the items to arrive. Im sure the clothing will fit, but Dan has assured me that he will work with me until things fit perfectly and Im happy with the end product. Would definitely recommend Dan and Tom James.

At 66 and 275lbs, I have always stood out in a crowd but these days thanks to my beloved Haberdasher, John Burton of Tom James Chicago, I stand out in an impressive way. No more endless shopping for fashionable clothes in large sizes – they don’t exist. Thanks John for looking out for us big guys.

Garbage cloths . Poor sakes. Poor follow up. No return on refit. Try to collect money in clothes nor provided. You can do much better thsn this company. Trust me. I spent 18 plus on cloths for myself and sons. BE FOREWARNED.

I have been a Tom James customer for almost 20 years and have spent untold amounts of money with them. John Burton in their Chicago operation is fabulous and is a consummate professional haberdasher! Most of my stuff from 15 years ago still fits and is in fashion! Now, if you read other reviews here that are negative please take them with a grain of salt. If someone walks in off the street and goes full custom, they probably are expecting everything to be perfect out of the box, and its not. Theres always pattern tweaking to do and some alterations. Also, custom means custom, so sometimes stitching comes out of a hem or a button comes off. This isnt mass produced junk, so because of that you might have to get something touched up. This has always been taken care of by Tom James. In case youre wondering, I did also try Surmesur and Balani. Balani was ok, but they tried to stuff my big frame in a too tight tailored suit for more money than TJ. Surmesur was an absolute disaster, dont waste your time there. Get someone great like John at Tom James and youll never regret it!
