This is now HUB 312!
Its a three in one: bike rentals, police bike facility, and commuter garage. This review is for the commuter aspect. Commuters get to park in a locked bike parking area and the use of a locker room and showers. At higher levels of membership you can have your own locker. The team of bike mechanics is superb; they work almost exclusively on high mileage commuter bikes and rentals, and know all the tricks to keeping your commuting bike happy. Staff is always a pleasure. Open year round. Theres often a waiting list for advanced memberships, especially during the summer.
Ive had great experiences here as a member and as a customer. The mechanics are all great! Dan is the most knowledgeable mechanic in all of Chicago in my opinion. Hes always friendly and has helped me countless times with my commuters and my road bikes. Love this place!
Dan is the best! He not only repaired my husbands wheelchair but also gave me advice on how to maintain it plus adjusted his and bolts I didnt know needed adjusting. Very helpful. Will definitely go back.
Vincent/Liam/Danny are great. I park my bike outside and have met them through the years. Cool guys and they have helped me a bunch with my bike.
I recently purchased a bike to ride too and from work and a friend recommended the McDonalds Cycle Center for storage. Before visiting the center, I checked out their website to see what info I could find out about pricing. When I visited the center, I asked several questions about the facilities, hours, and membership and ultimately chose the annual membership with the understanding that I could easily change to the monthly membership if it did not work out and I would be refunded the difference.Fast forward one month and 4 days later and I had found another storage option closer to work that was free, so I called the cycle center and spoke with Ryan about cancelling my membership at which point he said I would not receive a refund. As you can imagine, this was quite frustrating given the research and questions I asked before registering. Nevertheless, Ryan said he would look into it and get back to me.In the meantime, I registered on their website to see what info I could find on my account to try to resolve it on my own. Unfortunately, my agreement that I signed a month ago had not been uploaded to my account, so I couldnt see anything. One week later, I had not heard from Ryan, so I stopped by the cycle center on my way to work to inquire about an update. Unfortunately, Ryan was not there, but the young lady who was working took down my information and told me Ryan would be in that afternoon and would give me a call. The next day, I still did not get a call, so I called again and asked for Ryan. I asked if he had gotten my message from the previous day and he said it was in the queue for a 40% refund (meaning Id be paying $135 for just over a month of service when one month only costs $40). This was frustrating because it was very different from my initial conversation when I became a member. In addition, Ryan told me that if it had only been a month, it would be different, to which I reminded him that Id been trying to get in touch with him and get this resolved for over a week. Ryan continued to interrupt me as I was trying to explain my original understanding the cancellation policy. He was exacerbated and said I just dont understand why you went with the annual membership anyway. When I tried to explain that decision, he continued to interrupt me and ultimately said, fine, Ill give you the refund except one month and hung up the phone with no further conversation.I was quite surprised with Ryans lack of professionalism and immediately attempted to call back to smooth things over because I did not want to end on such a negative experience. I was told that he was not in the office that day, to which I responded I knew he was because he had just hung up on me. The response I was given was that he had stepped out of the store. At this point, I decided to wash my hands of the situation. It is truly unfortunate that it went downhill so quickly because, had I not found a location closer to work, I would have happily continued with my membership at the cycle center. The facilities are very nice and its a bonus that there is a repair shop on site as well. Although I cant be certain, it seemed that Ryan was most frustrated with the number of times I was following up about cancelling my membership; however, Im not sure what else he would have liked for me to do since I was not getting any response from him.
I commute to downtown Chicago on my bike year-round. This place is like my second home - great staff, good facility with all the expected things: Lock-up for bikes, lockers, showers, mechanics to fix the steeds. Highly recommended.
I was in Chicago for just a few days and wanted to see the sights. The conceirge at the hotel recommended I try here. I am an avid bicycler from San Diego, but was concerned they wouldnt have a bike that would fit me; I am 68. The bike fit, was wonderfully maintained, fast, safe (as a bike can be; they have helmets too!) and was something like $20 for a day. I got all over Chi-town, a lot faster than the trains too.I would do it again in a heartbeat!
I dropped my road bike off this afternoon for some repairs and the technician I worked with (Aaron) was fantastic, friendly, and knowledgeable. Their prices were very reasonable and the turnaround was super quick. Ill definitely be going back for all my biking / maintenance needs.
No one to take care of you this weekend: Saturday May 26th. Nearly 1 dozen people were waiting to be taken care of with bicycles but shop was locked up. Came back 1.5 hours later: No one to take care of you????Who is the responsible for opening up this bicycle Shop on a busy holiday weekend??? People waiting had called the posted number with no answers? No time posted on anything? This is not a convenient business....
I really like it here! The staff and the other riders makes this an enjoyable place. What I like the most is I can drop my bike of to be serviced and it ready when I leave in the evening. Did I say the staff rocks!
Very reasonable prices. Quick service and friendly staff. Will definitely be a repeat customer
An excellent facility unique to Chicago. Memberships available which allow you to park your bike here during the day, shower, and head to work. Also have a bike mechanic onsite that is phenomenal.
David was very helpful and was a fun tour guide and made the tour a great expirience
Great shop. Bike repair man downstairs was fantastic. i will definitely come here again!
HORRIBLE SERVICE. I went to get a flat fixed as I left work & noticed I had a flat tire. The mechanic patched my tire (horrible bike maintenance procedure) and replaced my tube. I asked how long the patch would hold and if I should replace my tire, and the mechanic said not necessary to replace the tire. I rode twice afterwards and received another flat yesterday, so I called to get a refund from the first flat fix and the mechanic said that was not possible unless he could inspect the tire. I told him that Ive gotten the flat fixed (so I could ride home yesterday), so clearly the tire nor tube would not show what caused the flat. AVOID THIS BIKE SHOP AT ALL COSTS.
Excellent value when you compare it to finding a parking space for your car downtown. The location is great since it is far from the busyness of Michigan Avenue and Lake Shore Drive, while being reasonable accessible from the Lakefront Trail.
Excellent service got me up and riding in no time. Great Place to go if you break down Downtown or there-abouts
The bike repair guy changed the tire on my personal bike and even spent a few extra minutes to adjust the fender because the new tire was thicker than the previous. Extremely nice and great service!
Great place to start a ride on the lakefront path, best way to see Chicago on the bikes!
Staff ignore you. Bike condition was poor. I had to walk the bike for the last mile as the tyre went flat. Took 10 minutes in the queue and they kept serving people who werent lined up. 1 person serving out of 4 staff.
I want too ride a bike too chicago.
I rent a bike city bike for $ 25 for 5h, The bike was old but functional, delivered at the time everything was fine. On the other hand on my CB we m to debit $ 50 in addition to deposit I guess !!!. C the scam makes $ 75 for a bike std .. Now I have to email to try to recover this deposit. Nothing stipulated that ....
