Went to get a fade… waited forever and the fade was trash. avoid at all cost. Would not recommend (maybe they used to be good?)

I believe in supporting small/ black businesses, but this one is toxic.I was a customer of this place for several years. I worked with Dreux. At first everything worked out pretty well, but it all ended horrendously. The barber intentionally cut 1 inch “plugs” throughout my undercut in addition to taking the fade higher up than I requested. Ive been growing my hair for several years, so this makes a significant difference in how my hair looks.He claims that my hair was too “oily”… I suggested we wash it ( a service included with the braids I booked) he refused to do so and proceeded to intentionally cut patches into my undercut and aggressively yank a comb through the length of my hair.I would have understood, had he asked me to reschedule, but to intentionally ruin someone’s hair who has been a loyal customer for years is detestable.If you’re looking for someone who actually listens and works with you, this isn’t the place.

Visiting from out of town and I went to a different barbershop at first and I had to stop the haircut because the barbers hands were shaking all over the place.Even though the staff was fully scheduled for the day, they squeezed me in and fixed the issues of the first barbershop and gave me a pro cut that I was needing.

Its crazy because when I go here I only go see one Barber his name is Danny hes a really good Barber hes actually the only Barber I trust to cut my hair sometimes I say well you know hes like a hour wait Im like thats fine Ill wait you really knows what hes doing all the other barbers are really good as well but I have really thin hair so when he cuts my hair looks fuller which I do really like but its a very clean and well respected barber shop as soon as you walk in they make you use sanitizer on your hands and yes you do have to wear a mask but when youre sitting by your Barber you can take it off because they have a divider between the chairs so thats one really good reason why I like this place and the barber wears a mask the whole time.

Went for my first time a few weeks back and got a cut from Darren. From the shop, Darren, other barbers and patrons, everything was clean, professional and meticulous. Great, safe experience all around so kudos! And a great cut as well!

I recently moved here to Chicago after many years with my barber back home. As black men we know that it matters who cuts our hair and we arent going to have some random person do it, we need someone we can trust. I wanted to find a black owned barbershop where I felt comfortable, so I checked out Urbane Blades. The shop took every measure to keep people safe. Barbers had on masks and I could see them cleaning chairs after each cut. Not only did Airano get my cut right, we had a great conversation and he never did anything without asking my permission first. Got a great cut for a great price and I will DEFINITELY keep coming back.

Dreux did my haircut and hair color. He was really professionnal. He managed to achieve the color I wanted which was not a guaranteed thing. I am impressed. I would recommend him.The barbershop environment was also clean.

Great shop with a good vibe. I was well taken care of and Dreux did a great job on my cut. I hadn’t had a cut in 3 years and he took extra time to make sure it was done right. Really appreciate the service and quality. Will return next time I’m in Chicago.

Im just going to be real with this review.Im new to Chicago, and I also have a jacked up hairline. Because of this, I always get anxiety when Im trying to find a new barber.Luckily, I found Airano (also known as Chikago by many). This guy took the time to listen to my instructions, and then proceeded to hook me up with the exact cut I wanted.Ive since racked up about a dozen visits, and every cut is as good as the last. Simply put, my mans is super consistent.I wont be uploading any photos because, again, my hairline is jacked up. But definitely visit Urbane Blades if you need a quality cut in the Near North Side!

Great authentic Barbershop! I was very impressed with the professionalism of all the barbers and clients! Very reasonably priced. Especially compared to barbershops a block or so away. I also like that they allow walk-in customers and explained their system so there’s no confusion! The Lady of the Shop (Wendy) did an awesome job with my hair and beard! Definitely will be going back when in Chicago!

This may be a isolated incident but it was a bad experience for me. The shop is in a okay location. The chairs and floors were okay. My barber seemed cool with the conversation but he did make the ultimate mistake of pushing my hairline back. My hairline isn’t the best but for a high priced babershop, I wouldn’t think you would have to warn them about it. There were other areas that should have been taken care of. Like the back of the neck and under my chin. Like I said, all barbers there may not be the same but I’m not taking that risk again.

Got my first hair cut from my man Alfonso and within 24 hours was dropping panties faster than usain bolt in the 100m dash. To say that this was my best haircut to date would be an understatement. If youre in the city and need a fresh cut yall gotta check this place out you will not be disappointed.

My experience with Darren and in Urbane Blades was top-notch. From him answering the phone, then answering my fired-off questions to his personable way of retaining a customer through solutions (water, he knows), my 9 y/os experience was great! It was tough moving to Chicago from Albuquerque, NM, leaving behind my lifelong barber shop I grew up with and trusted with my hair.I know what youre thinking, chill out its only a haircut smh nah its a game changer, a nice haircut empowers confidence. I mean youre reading this comment right now or youd be at Whatever Cuts.Anyway, after receiving two jacked up haircuts in the city, I needed to trust Googles reviews when it brought up Urbane Blades. The first review I read was by an older gentleman referring to Darren as a veteran and a great conversationalist, who listened to every request and worked with the style he desired. Sounds like my old barber back home, so I booked an appointment on their website, easy peasy.The environment walking in was calm and cool, not intimidating at all, as some shops are. All was true about Darren; fast-forward five years later and Darren is still my barber to this day. I have commitment issues with style so these past five years, Darrens hooked it up with low tapers, skin fades, high top fades, perfect linings every time and even beard trims. They always work with whatever style Im feeling that week.When Darrens too booked up and I need a good job, Ray, Leo, and Rick have taken care of me with the same attention to detail, so I know Darren has a standard for each barber under his roof.I have TWO suggestions for you Mr(s) Customer:1) Book online2) Give clear communication of what you want, theyll take care of youI guess you could say I found my life long barber shop, itll be my kids local spot one day, all because of one review and a great experience. Like everyone else, Im always a little skeptical when trying out a new barbershop. But from the moment I went in to Urbane, I felt more than comfortable. There is never more than a 2-head wait, the cuts are fantastic, and because of the conversation skills of the barbers, it feels like youre in the chair for way less time then you actually are!Excellent shop!

HORRIBLE SERVICE BY A NEW BARBER AT THE VERY FIRST STATION (AT LEAST HE WAS WHEN I WENT IN THERE 12/17). ALL FOREIGNERS DO NOT KNOW HOW TO CUT BLACK HAIR--AND NEED TO LEARN. I CALLED BACK BECAUSE IT WAS SO UNEVEN... THE MANAGER, RAY SAID HED DO IT FOR NO CHARGE. AND EACH TIME ALL CALLED IN--HE WOULD HAVE A REASON WHY HE COULD NOT. I AM DONE WITH THESE PEOPLE. LITTLE DO HE KNOW I WOULD HAVE PAID HIM BECAUSE I PAY FOR WHAT I GET AND I CERTAINLY WOULD HAVE TIPPED, AND I TIP GENEROUSLY--I TIPPED THE NEW GUY AND FOR WHAT--HE DIDNT HAVE A SPONGE NOR DID HE HAVE HAIR CREME NOR THE SPONGE--HE BORROWED A SPONGE, AND THEN TRIED TO USE WATER. I HAD TO TELL HIM THAT YOU CANNOT USE WATER IN PLACE OF A GEL OR CREME. ALSO, KNOW THAT SOMETIMES BUSINESS WRITE THEIR OWN REVIEWS TOO. BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS REALLY UPSETTING! Ive been a patron of Urbane Blades on and off again going back the past 5 years. Im a big fan of their new website and system for booking!I can just go on their website and reserve a date and time for a haircut with very little hassle. I think you can also pay in advance, but Im not doing that...Ive had David cut my hair the past 2 visits. He does a good job, and takes pride in the end product.I would say this is a great place, but then I might not be able to find an open slot...

A great shop all and all but I didnt appreciate being double booked and having to wait an additional hour.To update this review as of 1/15/19 The shop has had new barbers and the current barbers are wonderful and keep their appointments on time. I havent had any issues.

This is definitely a shop that I will continue to come to. Genuinely nice people there with great skills. I can honestly say that I am always hesitant when it comes to having a new barber, but after the first cut he put my worries to ease. My experience here is definitely worth more than any other visits Ive had to a barber shop in Chicago. Darren, a disciplined Army veteran has placed the satisfaction of his clients as the number one priority of Urbane Blades. He has always been willing to work around my schedule, but while I value his haircutting skills, its the Belizean conversations that we have that makes me proud to have Urbane be the barbershop I go to. With Darrens leadership, everyone there will try their best to satisfy everyone.

Darren is seriously one of the best barbers in Chicago!! Ive only ever had my mother, who is also a barber cut my hair, but I had heard so many great things about Darren that I wanted to try him out. Nervous, being a women walking into a barber shop, I was pleasantly surprised and impressed. Ive always avoided barber shops because of the random macho guy talk, loud music, video game playing you might encounter in some shops, but not Urbane Blades. Very clean and professional environment. When I walked in I was greeted by everyone that worked there and Darren was ready and available to cut my hair at my scheduled time. I was getting my hair cut for a formal event I was attending the following day and Darren did an exemplary job! Me not knowing how to clearly explain what I wanted, he consulted me on the latest trends and executed perfectly. Now, here goes my dilemma - how do I tell my dear mom Ive found a new barber!?

Its affordable, and the barbers that work there are cool. The only thing that could be improved is their priorities over walk-ins and appointments....Its deterring to new customers when theyre​ told theyre next but only if the next appointment doesnt show up.

Horrible !!!! I arrive here today signed the sheet to be seen with no greeting or direction from the barbers. Almost an hour and half later a barber comes up to me apologizes for the wait and tells me it. Hold be an hour or more before I’m seen as they are completely booked for the day with Appointments and I should have scheduled online !!!!!!!!!!! That would have been nice to know when I arrived !!! I will never return !!!

Clean shop good with kids wich is hard to find in the city and the razor fades are second to none Leo is my barber but Ive never seen a bad cut in this shop always left satisied.

Im not one to diss a black owned business, so Im sorry, but my cut was straight-up terrible, terrible, terrible. Im from NYC and have a barber in Chicago. I get fresh cuts in Harlem with a straight-edge blade line-up for $20 or under. Im telling you FRESH and Clean. In Chicago, under $15.Ive always stayed away from these supposedly ethic shops in high-end areas because they are usual weak and overpriced, like soul food in gentrified neighborhoods. The last time I had a hair cut this bad was at Supercuts when I was 14, and it left me crying, and at least that barber apologized. Great barbers are in the hood, Im sorry. I knew this...yet I was in need and had no time to go to my barber. Serves me right for rushing.(Im not naming him) His tools were inferior and skills were even more inferior. For $32 buck??? He sure gave me $32 worth of ego. Blaming his wackness on the shape of my head and the direction of my hair growth!!!! Are you serious???? This is not my first haircut. Youre a head and hair specialist and your blaming me because youre substandard? I asked how long have you been a barber? and he replied, how long is long??? What???!!! This guy left my head patchy and my face cut up. I have photos.I know when Ive have a good haircut because youre usually left with this cool minty fresh feeling. Instead I left there sweaty, angry, disappointed and hair all over me. Throughout this whole process not once did he dust or wipe the hair/sweat off my head, and that part is easy. At the end I did it myself, paid and left.I wouldnt spend the time writing this if I werent dead serious. If the shop has a barber this awful on staff, I have to judge the whole establishment in the same light. Looked like a cool looking salon though.

We get it, its holiday season. No excuse to have to wait an hour after an appt. And no one says anything to clarify whats going on. Then my barber who looks like the PBS kids Arthur the bear all grown up, with the ugly ass sweater had a bad attitude. Rolling his eyes,moving slow as hell, and catching an attitude with another barber in front of a client when the client decided she was going to get her kids haircut from the first avaliable barber since she had somewhere to go and was waiting for her appointment for an hour also.A. Wasnt his place to say anything, it wasnt his client. B. Extremely unprofessional to me because he sat there arguing with other people instead of hurrying and cutting my hair when i told him i have a flight to catch and need to go. The haircut should have taken 25 min it took an hour and he cut off too much on the top. Hopefully he doesnt treat all of his clients like that because if he just has an arrogant attitude with subpar work, at best--then thats a shame and he needs to be replaced.

Worst cut ive ever had, i conteplated on getting a haircut from this place only to convince myself to give them a chance and i regret it. I booked an appointment only to be told i had to wait! Then once i finally got my haircut it was one of the most laziest cuts ive ever had... Never going back to this place.
