I went to UPS store on Seminole to shred my documents and you cannot shred your documents yourself at this location. The website does indicate that you can but each location has its own set-up for shredding rules. At the Charlottesville location, the UPS store weighs your shredding papers, charges you and then you have to leave your box(s) for another company to come pick it up and shred it.This method is NOT secure if you are shredding banking, investment, medical or financial documents. Most financial documents have your name, address, account numbers, (some older documents have social security numbers), tax documents, account balances, personal medical information, and you would be exposing your privacy to an unknown driver whos got all of your personal information. Who knows how many hands these documents go through before being shredded. In addition, the documents would be sitting at the UPS store until the company comes to get them. Can anyone imagine putting a record of their financial & medical identity at risk by letting it sit around at a UPS store for who know how long? Why not just put an add in the paper and tell the world all your personal financial information instead?Charlottesville needs a company that lets you shred your own private documents to insure privacy and to keep someone from stealing your identity. Handing all your private information to UPS to sit on a floor so a stranger can pick it up, is risky.
