This was my first home gym and I loved it. The staff was super kind and helpful when I first learned to climb, the member benefits are great, the facilities are clean and professionally maintained, I highly suggest giving it a go!The route setting team does a great job every week. The new routes are consistently challenging and fun!
The gym is great and the climbing and routes. The staff however was condescending and lack experience. My friend and I have been climbing in this gym since it opened. So we have climbed here for over 10 years and then today a staff member told us that we were belaying incorrectly. They couldn’t really verbalize very well what we were doing exactly wrong but that we didn’t permanently have our hand in the break position ( which we are using g a gri gri not an ATC) the staff didn’t understand what a dynamic belay was which was concerning. I think the staff lacks experience. It’s strange to climb in a gym for 10 years and to have climbed with several of the staff members, the previous owner of the gym, route setters and coaches and then to have a staff member tell you your belaying incorrect and that they don’t know what a dynamic belay is. I’m not sure howI got away with incorrect belaying over the last ten year and that no one else ever realized this?
I like the walls and its gym it better than Baker. Always has something broken either machine or something in the bathroom. QC is not performed on a daily basis. Ive asked before to fix machines and they just don’t do it. One day someone is going to get hurt.
This gym is very impressive, and the height of the building from outside is deceptive! Ive only been a few times, but its been a blast each and every one of them. It caters a variety of routes for both the novice and the pro alike!
I’ve been going to both Denver and Boulder movements since they each opened.I love the amount of classes they have aside from climbing, as well as all the stand fitness equipment you might need. The staff is usually friendly and helpful.Everything is pretty clean, besides the occasional blood splatter up high on a wall. 😂The routes are usually pretty good too and they change them out pretty frequently. My only complaint is the price, but I understand supply and demand. I wish it was a little more affordable.
Let me start by saying that my home gym is the spot and Ive been going there for several years at this point. Im very used to a communal environment and seeing positive reinforcement for newbies and more advanced climbers alike. Its more of an old school feel and everyone is very down to earth. This aint that. I came in to do a lead belay test and run some routes with my buddy about a week after coming back from a climbing trip out in Wyoming. The guy doing the test was so rude and condescending that I couldnt even focus enough to belay properly. I felt like I had committed a crime or something.. I ended up doing a little bouldering and leaving. The clientele is nothing to write home about either. Super judgemental and snide, will barely say 2 words to you. Its basically boulders yuppie climbing crowd.*While this particular incident did happen pre COVID-19 it says an awful lot about an experience if it was so negative you remember it a full year later... I havent been back since..
Favorite gym in Boulder! Yes, the bouldering area is not large but they make up for that with excellent routesetting. Also love the route climbing, even the easier climbs are pretty interesting. The training area has a variety of hangboards with a bunch of weights and a good pulley system. I just wish the Moonboard wasnt so worn down! (Also a spray wall would make this gym 💯)
A bit small, considering the number of routes.... Unless you can do top ripe and lead. Cause a quarter of the routes, and biggest wall, is lead only.
A lovely environment for bouldering, top roping, and leading. The staff is always super sweet and helpful. Looking forward to yoga classes starting up again someday as an added bonus - all of their instructors are amazing.
I love Movement! I learned to rock climb here, and have been going consistently for the past year and half (except when it was closed due to COVID-19). Friendly staff, great route setting, well maintained facilities. They have also handled the reopening well and safely so far. I’ll definitely miss climbing here.
Have been climbing here for three years now. The facility is clean and spacious. Expect strong climbers good sets and busy week nights. I have enjoyed climbing here for awhile but recently hired staff sparked an interest in finally reviewing this spot. Management is fantastic and the front desk staff is stellar. Recently I asked the desk when one of the walls was going to be reset (had a project id been working on). The young lady at the desk (I believe her name was corina) went out of her way to figure out when my project would be reset. Everyone is friendly even the setters. Goes without saying, but I came for the climbing and will continue to climb here because of the atmosphere and the people. Thanks for keeping the gym clean for us. Climb on!
This place is awesome, staff is friendly, very clean. Its a great place to workout and make friends. You might even see some pro climbers walking around. Frank and Max that work the front desk are total crushers and cool dudes.
Movement Climbing and Fitness is legendary. The routes are set with creativity and attention to detail, and the grades are super precise. The staff always greet me with a smile and stoke is always high. Come climb at this gym if you want to get shredded and climb 5.14 ASAP.
I have been a member here for a few years and generally love the gym. The staff are nice, the routes and boulders are fun and challenging, and its generally a super fun place. However, the horrible music makes it almost impossible to enjoy the climbing. I left with a headache after being bombarded with heavy metal for two hours. There were only a few other songs played. Not everyone enjoys this music. I hope they can have the consideration to play a variety of music in the future so that everyone can have an enjoyable time.
Everything youd want a climbing gym to be. Friendly staff, great community, excellent route setting, good vibes, and a fantastic facility.
This review is for the climbing aspect of the gym only. Movement Boulder is a great place to climb. Lots of route variety on ropes & bouldering. They are also changed frequently enough as to not get really bored. Some of the staff are fantastic and others not so much. Yes the Bouldering area is not huge but if you aren’t their at peak time, it’s fine. Peak times between 5-8PM are busy. If you go then parking will be a pain. Both locations have very pretentious people climbing..
I climbed with some nice folks here. The staff is also very kind. I will also say I experienced a gym culture that was not inviting to new climbers. About half the people I climbed with here either A. Refused to gender me correctly or B. It was obvious that I was making them uncomfortable because im a trans woman. There is a culture of elitism at this gym. Another review states people at this gym take themselves too seriously. and I found that to be true. To anyone just getting into climbing I would say stay away from this gym. If you are really good and experienced and all you want to do is train then go for it. Cheers.
This really is the biggest, cleanest, and best gym in Boulder. There are two other options that fall more into the dirty grungy Rocky style gym. But movement is bigger, nicer, has better walls, better facilities, a better weight room.To me its a no-brainer, but some people complain that climbers at movement take themselves too seriously. I dont even know what that means, but in my opinion, those people are hyper critical, and theyre just looking for something to complain about so they can feel better about their smaller, dingy, less awesome gym.Dont get me wrong, the other gyms in Boulder are not BAD gyms. Anywhere else in America theyd be great. The people are great. The setters are great. The vibes are just different, and I prefer the bigger, nicer, cleaner facilities movement offers.
Its awesome. I pretty much live there!
Great place to climb
I climbed here for a few years and I really enjoyed it. People are friendly, place is clean! It could get crowded sometimes but its a great place to progress from intermediate to stuff that is a little more difficult!
Good bouldering area and fitness facilities.
Good crag to get out of the hot summer sun or away from the winter winds.
This is a great climbing gym. The routes are well set and the facility is clean. The staff is really friendly and accommodating for out of town people. I always enjoy coming here when I’m in Boulder. I appreciate the nod to sustainability with the solar panels on the roof and energy console inside.
No complaints
I love movement! The staff is very friendly and welcoming upon entry. I am not a rock climber (yet), but really enjoy the variety of fitness classes they offer. The fitness instructors are high quality too and always put a twist on their class so that is is never the same, which I like! The instructors are very willing to help with setting up your equipment for class or offering alternative exercises!
I just love visiting this place over and over!
Honestly not a huge fan. I was going to EarthTreks when I lived in Denver and LOVED the people who climbed there and the general nature of the place. I’ve come across people who are rude at Movement which is not what I was expecting at all, and not a lot of routes for beginners. Unfortunate. Staff is always friendly though, I do appreciate that!
Great climbing gym for all levels! Staff is helpful, fun, and positive. For climbing ropes, Movement cannot be beat in Boulder. While the bouldering area is a little tight, they have been making improvements recently to their setting and holds that seem to make a positive difference. The fitness room could use an update, but is adequate for getting most workouts done. Fitness classes can be a hit, or miss, depending on the instructors.
Best climbing gym in the State
Movement is my home away from home, and Ill admit it, Im a fan, I love it. Ive been climbing for a little over a year now, so I dont have a ton of experience at other climbing gyms, but this place is my favorite so far. The routes can be tough, but theyre almost always interesting, and that gray lead wall can be a real kick in the pants. Other than the lead climbing, the bouldering can feel a bit cramped, yoga is always a thing, and one of these days Ill actually start training and using the workout area more. As for the other people there, Ive only had good experiences, everyone is always friendly. Oh, then theres the parking, which in the winter is almost always lacking. If you dont find a legit spot, dont park in the neighboring businesss spots, because you will get booted.
The climbing is great and I love the staff! I take my daughter to the daycare 1-2 days a week and she loves it. I like going to yoga there too the room is really clean, the classes and teachers are varied.
Ive had a membership here for most of the time that Ive lived in Boulder, and I love it! The climbing routes are always fun and interesting (both bouldering and ropes), and you get to climb with some of the hardest climbers in the world. One of my favorite aspects of the gym (besides the climbing and all of the wonderfully friendly staff) is the yoga classes and other fitness classes. If Im not feeling like climbing, I can still go exercise in a different way. (Yin yoga is perfect for the times when you dont want something too strenuous.)Overall, highly recommended for anyone wanting to climb or participate in other fitness classes in Boulder!
Love this place! The staff is wonderful and helpful. I have especially appreciated the childcare. It is clean and great. The staff think of great projects for all ages. Highly recommend it!!
Thankfully they recently acquired bumper plates. The setting is consistently good. A bit overpriced and a little full of themselves (businesses advantages of being located in Boulder) Rub elbows with some famous climbers and get your climb on.
The negative reviews on customer service are 100% spot on. If you are an experienced climber, at least climbing 5.12 or above, who is an overhung junkie, you will probably have a decent experience with Movement and the terrain. The setters seem struggle with setting between a 5.7 and a 5.11, making those who are still learning left with limited options. In addition, the amount of routes that arent overhung is minimal and set in the same 6-8 week time span as all of the overhung routes, leaving a lack of variety for such a limited area. For those who want to work on footwork or climb vertical/ slab routes, go to BRC down the road or EVO in Louisville.
Not sure why the staff at Movement gets any bad reviews? Ive been a member since almost day one and have never had a bad experience with the staff. Great folks, always helpful and friendly. . All the gyms in Boulder are great compared to anywhere else Ive every been. Movement has the advantage of size, height and openness. Very popular though so avoid peak hours if you can. Great gym. Great staff. Consistently good route-setting. And regular new routes and problems going up on a set schedule. Get in there and get pumped.
Fun Cookie Comp, the staff is wonderful. The climbers are amazing.
Love this place! There is something for everyone in my family. My daughter love the daycare, my husband loves the climbing and I love all the different fitness classes. The staff is always super friendly and helpful and the facilities are always clean, maintained and super bright!
Movement has taken the climbing gym experience to a new level. The staff is super friendly, the facilities are amazing, terrain is awesome, and route setting is on point. Training areas are continuously updated and leading edge. Best indoor climbing in Boulder without a doubt.
Have gone to several climbing gyms in the Boulder/Denver area and Movement is my favorite -- they have solid regular gym equipment as well as great climbing. Parking is a nightmare during peak hours.
Just finished the three session Lead Class last week - definitely worth the money. Drew was a great teacher and made sure all of my questions were answered. Got outside this weekend, was confident and ready to go!Also just a great gym in general. Great people and fun routes.
Awesome, Awesome, Awesome climbing gym! You can get belay certified on the spot unlike other gyms where it’s a hassle and all the routes are perfectly marked and rated via vote by the community. Love it.
Love climbing at movement. Most routes are a full number grade softer than my local gym so I always leave feeling way stronger than I actually am. its also funny to watch all the bros climbing when their shirts off when its 55 degrees inside the gym
I have been a member here for over three years and still love coming here. The class instructors are great, the staff is friendly, the routes are regularly updated, and the building itself and its energy efficient design is inspiring. It kind of feels like youre in a contemporary art museum. Amazing towel service too. I dont know what kind of laundry detergent they use, but it smells like the start to a great day! Sometimes, there is a hippie van out front that sells coffee. Thats when youre really winning. Climbing + coffee from a VW bus = happiness. Only in Boulder.
Love this place. Biggest gym in Boulder with a lot of good, professionally built routes. Staff is great and theyre partnered with AccessFund so thats an added bonus. Im just really disappointed at the cost but it seems thats somewhat standard in this area
Super polite and great climbing location with good routes
I look forward to every time I get to go to Movement to work out. Not only do they have the best climbing facility in town they also have other fitness classes that I love to take as well. Highly recommend checking it out.
Plenty of fun, challenge, and jaw dropping eye candy here. Enough to keep our young kids excited and not intimidated as they navigate 5.7 and enough challenge with fun routes that change regularly to keep you on your toes. Weight training, spin, and yoga to keep you fit in between too. Not to miss!
Amazing facility with an abundance of routes for any level of climber. The routing staff is great and set fun, interesting, and technical problems at all grades. The climbing community here is awesome but the front desk staff provide poor customer service even for their members. Im still very pleased with my membership at this gym because I dont have to deal with front desk staff on a daily basis but as a company in the service industry I have been disappointed with how they treat their guests
Great staff and had a fun time climbing. Though there were very few walls under 5.11. Which, as a beginning climber was frustrating.
Movement has friendly staff. The climbing is really fun and a membership is great value. It continues to be the best place for climbing in Colorado.
Best climbing gym Ive ever been to. However, its silly that they only let you use your monthly guest pass to bring someone who has never been. There is an impressive amount of high level sending going down. The yoga classes up stairs are great and you cant beat the view either. The place can get quite crowded though.
A bit smaller than its denver counter part, but a great vibe none the less. Nice routes, and interesting problems. Will give 5 stars when I try one of their classes.
This place is the best. The staff is so welcoming & positive, and the facilities are top-notch. Best place around by far.
I love movement and go at least 5 times a week. I climb around 2-3 times and the other days I go to work out at their gym section. $75 a month is a lot of money but you get what you want out of the gym. Unlimited yoga, biking, and strength training classes, work out room (small but efficient), and great climbing. I know a lot of people who complain about the price but if you utilize everything Movement has to offer, the price is actually unbeatable. The hours are also perfect, opens early and closes late. The ONLY complaint is the limited parking during peak hrs (around 5pm to 7pm). However, Im not going to mark them down for it since there isnt much they can do about it.
Great route setting and climbing community! Gym is clean and has it all...yoga, cycling, efficient workout classes and all the exercise equipment you need.
Movement is a really good gym... too good in fact, since it can get pretty crowded at times. The routes are very good, but I have seen more fun routes at other places; totally could just be my style of climbing though.
I live in NC but make a point to visit Movement every time I’m in Colorado. The climbing facilities are phenomenal and the classes and staff are fabulous. I wish Movement would open in Charlotte!
Love this gym! Have the sticker and the hoodie to prove it. Great walls, great atmosphere and an amazing staff - super helpful and kind.
Wrongfully charged after I ended my membership and was given no help by management. They told me that they had no record of me canceling my account when they specifically made me come in person to do so. Costomer service is by far the worst of all gyms in boulder I highly recommend going anywhere but this super unprofessional business!
Punch pass is a joke you save $1 for each visit and they offer no buddy passes... Way over priced for what they offer.
Don’t allow service dogs (yes with proper documentation). Sad they don’t accept ALL people.
As a Colorado native and avid rock climber, my gym standards are very high. I was blown away the first time I walked into Movement. The Front Desk staff is always friendly and helpful and the climbing and amenities are incredible. And its super clean! With awesome setting and a ton of different angles, there is something for every interest and skill level. Upstairs there is a great training area with campus board, hang boards, and systems wall. Theres also a huge weight room with a lot of cardio equipment, a cycling studio, and a yoga studio. As a member I have free access to cycling, yoga, Pilates, and fitness classes taught by world class instructors. They also do awesome community events with local vendors, and there is usually beer! Basically if you want to get fit Movement is the place!!
Weird culture in the gym. Seemed to be a bunch of flexing and peacocking. Very different when compared to the vibe I got at the BRC.
Reciprocal membership (currently 2 locations), comprehensive exercise/fitness/yoga offerings, and great wall angles.
Wonderful facility. HORRIBLE STAFF. I actually had one of the Assistant Managers try to intimidate and bully me. They need to get a life and learn the definition of quality customer service. I guess their motto is if you have a good facility then customer service is unnecessary.
Great gym! Friendly staff and excellent setting.
WORST customer service ever! I tried to cancel my membership (two days after their arbitrary charge every 5th of the month) because of moving and they charged me for the whole month!! When I complained they said they dont do refunds - HUGE LIE as they do for medical reasons, which they only admitted when I called them out. Do not climb here, very unfriendly gym, with routes that stay on for 1.5/2 months.
There are good things to say about Movement. Proclimbers set the climbs, generally a good atmosphere. But the majority of the week days are filled with unruly kids running around, and taking turns on the boulders. They dont seem to be taught edicate or to be held to a standard of safety. Running underneath people and sitting to close to the wall are common place. Which means in order to climb you also have to ask a group of 12 year olds to scoot. Because the leadership isnt doing that. When I asked someone I was (not verbatum) told that this is just how it is. The real problem with this is the safety of the kids and other climbers. I mean, if I fall and land on a youngster the kid will probably be injured and Ill feel terrible. I didnt sign up for either. I would say shop around if you are looking for a membership.
I wish they had people to belay you, but overall I would recommend this place. Great place to climb, prices are pretty good for boulder, and the hours are great too!
One of my favorite spots in Boulder. The staff is incredible and very helpful!
The gym is very large and open. I enjoy the very tall walls in the gym as well as the nice bouldering area. The whole place is very clean and uncluttered. They have stadium style seating where you can leave your possesions which definitely helps declutter the gym.
If you can not pass the belaying test, not only do they not refund your money, you can only climb on the smaller boulders.i understand, you should know how to belay, but for those of us who havent climbed in a long time, or for those who have never climbed before, they should have auto belay ropes instead of manual ones.or at the very least, tell people in advance that there is a test before you can climb.dont come to boulder often seeing as its three hours from home. never coming here again.
Super route setting and an ultra clean/nice facility!
Great rock gym. They rotate the routes pretty regularly to make it fun.
Y’all need to shut down NOW. Climbing gyms are the last place people should be.
I love this place. Fun routes, great facility, views, friendly staff, green energy. Boom!
Movements staff are really friendly and their classes are awesome!
My wife bought me a gift certificate to Movement in Boulder for our 26th anniversary. Unfortunately, I was unable to use it and had to return it. The counter person promised to give us a refund since it was unused and call us back to confirm. She didnt call back. When we called back the counter person said no refunds. It was disappointing since we wont be here to use it. Movement looks like a GREAT place to climb, but I find that the service you receive at a gym makes a world of difference. Based on our experience with first, a staff member making a promise that wasnt kept, then a rigid staff member who basically said cant help you - tough luck,, I would be careful about considering this gym if customer-focused service is important to you. As you scroll down in the reviews, I think you will see that we arent the only customers that have been treated poorly here
My relative was in a serious climbing accident at this gym, and the gym did not notify her emergency contact. Unclear what kind of operation they are running.
The Movement staff is very friendly and inviting, the climbing is world class and varied, and the fitness classes and equipment are state of the art.THANKS x 1,000,000!!
Best gym in Boulder!
Movement by far has the best top rope and lead climbing around and average bouldering when you compare to a few other places in town, I read a bunch of reviews about bad customer service, I dont know about 2 years ago but now they seem to have there stuff together. If your trying to decide where to get a membership, you should check out Movement, the BRC for rope climbing and The Spot for bouldering. For me and my friends though we find our selfs always going back to Movement for the Walls/Staff and facilities.
Just incredible for an indoor gym. tons of route, reset regularly, lessons, yoga, OMG!
I recently switched to Movement from Boulder Rock Club based on a partners request and have been really happy with the change. Movement is a little taller, offers better variety on routes, and has better facilities in general. The one exception might be the size of the bouldering area. BRC seems to have a bigger bouldering area. Movement does get really crowded on weeknights after work but so does BRC. Ive found the staff friendly and professional and enjoy training here. I also think the route ratings, variety, and hold choice reflect a desire to challenge their patrons. After a few years of irregularly going to BRC, I felt that I knew what to expect and climbed harder as a result. At Movement, I find the routes more challenging and less straightforward in a good way.
Big space with many routes. Bouldering space is not that big.
Open again! Yippee!
Unethical and out of date. I attempted to cancel my membership with them after moving for work. They then stalled my request until after the notification date as a way to try to bilk me for another months membership, irrespective of the fact that I notified them before that date. Much of equipment is also out of date and some of it is borderline dangerous.
Very corporate culture, especially when it comes to memberships.
Awful customer service.
Cool gym
Its a great gym. Lots of walls and people climbing. Staff is very helpful and willing to help you with whatever you may need
