Update: I was contacted by the owner and we discussed my issues. He was very accepting of my feedback and wants to improve and make sure clients are happy! I hope this helps them do better. I wasnt offered anything for my dissatisfaction, but at least I was contacted.I am so unsatisfied with my experience at Zazen. I had called to get a spa day set up for me and my daughter for a fun girls time before school. The gal on the phone was great, and had it all set up and it was going to be great. When we got there, it seemed as if nothing was communicated with the providers on what the plan was. We were not offered robes or anything. Only offered water, no other beverage. We ended up waiting over an hour for our pedicures, and the pedicures are terrible. My 9 year old would have done better on them. The color is thin and not clean, she didnt clean the tools from my daughter to myself...which I paid for cleaning fees. The people were nice, but the service was not even close the amount of money I spent there. I sent an email to the company explaining my dissatisfaction the next day (over a week ago) and they have not attempted to contact me or respond at all.

My whole family is coming here regularly to get their hair done. Sarah is amazing! She is great with hair cuts, color & style!I also had massages at Zazen! Wim is a very skilled massage therapist! Will certainly be back for more.

I want to start with why Ive never considered going to a spa. The whole thing seemed either too expensive or that spa culture was very snobbish and like I didnt belong. Zazen knocked it out of the freaking park and smashed my preconceived notions and worries into a million pieces. My friend and I were treated warmly and kindly at reception, offered something to drink and our esthetician, Emma, had me laughing and so relaxed. She explained everything she was doing and it was by far one of the most comforting experiences Ive ever had. I went full ham and got the Ultimate Zazen Facial and I would do it again in a heart beat. Check your worries at the door, come to Zazen and have an amazing experience. I am so happy and my skin has never looked this good without the aid of make up. I am beyond pleased and I cant wait to go back. Staff, if you see this, you are a wonderful, mindful, and thoughtful group, thank you for an amazing day of pampering.

I got a shellac manicure and they look awful. The polish is blotchy and uneven, and I can clearly see bits of the old polish under it. I had to fix the shape on them because they were really uneven and each nail was a slightly different shape. Paid $70 for a manicure I would have given myself in middle school.

I had a wonderful experience here, I got a makeup session with Emma and she made me look awesome!! She was also super sweet! 🙂 I will definitely be coming back again.

So relaxing! I had Veronica for my facial and she was lovely. She did an amazing job and my skin feels amazing! Afterward she recommended me some products that are definitely going to be in my new skin routine!

I was gifted a day spa for my birthday where I got a massage, body scrub, and mani/pedi with a sauna break in the middle. Everyone took their time and made sure I was comfortable. I had a great time! So much so that I made an appointment for next week to get a perm!

They treated my sister with respect and love and that is all that matters to me I went with her to get my nails done The nail polish didnt really last for 14 days but the staff is amazing They are hard working and the owner is magnificent She is the sweetest kindest loving hard-working mom So please please go see the salon They are definitely worth it.

I had my very first visit to Zazen Spa and this place was amazing! I was greeted with such friendly faces and was introduced to the new owner who was so friendly and welcoming. I went to get lashes by their master aesthetician, Emma Karst, who was extremely friendly an so knowledgeable. My lashes are fantastic and I plan on going back for skin care and all the things they have to offer to help me feel good about myself. I highly recommend you checking this place out. Amanda did my hair today and did amazing!! All I came in for was a simple trim and I loveee the way she did some face framing layers on me when I mentioned it. I also got a facial from Emma and it was the bomb - my skin is feeling so glowy and clean! I also got an amazing massage form Madison recently. Can’t wait to come back for more!

My lashes turned out amazing. The atmosphere was extremely relaxing and my final result was exactly what I had envisioned. They were full and dramatic.

Beautiful, clean, professional spa! I felt pampered and well taken care of by the staff. The expertise of their estheticians is very good as they explain different types of services. I did dermaplaning and plan on going in again for more.

I paid, I believe, $80 for several salon services as part of a promotion (facial, wax, haircut and massage). After the haircut I received here I will never go back; I didn’t even redeem all the services I paid for. I’ll attach a photo of the haircut below. Mind you, I let the lady cutting my hair know that I wanted the smallest trim I could get because I was trying to grow my hair out. In the end, to fix her absolutely terrible job I ended up with about 6 inches off my hair. The person who fixed my hair was great, she did although mention several times it was a big project due to how uneven the cut was. Also, I let the first stylist know I didn’t want layers so this wasn’t even an attempt at layers. The second stylist had to cut off the 6 inches just because there were some pieces at my shoulder and others mid back. The only way to salvage it was to level it out to the shortest chunk.Despite visibly seeing how horrible the haircut was, the owner and manager both tried to charge me an additional amount to get it fixed. Eventually, after explaining how ridiculous that was and after several phone calls they finally said they’d do me a favor and “pay out of their own pocket” to get me a fixed haircut at their salon. I don’t know a single other salon that’d make a client pay extra for a very obvious mistake made on their part. I still had paid for the promotion and tipped both hairstylists, even the bad one, $10. The first hairstylist curled my hair afterwards so I wasn’t able to see just how awful it was when I was leaving! She also mentioned multiple times during my haircut that the stylists don’t actually make any money off the promotions and the management company gets all the money which made me feel bad and pressured to tip more.I’m not even sure they had a fully licensed person doing this because every time I asked what experience the person had, they ignored the question. The massage I received was in a very uncomfortable chair like the ones at the mall. She asked if it was comfortable and I explained it wasnt really because I have arthritis all down my spine and a pinched vertebrate which makes it uncomfortable to have that kind of pressure. She tried to adjust it to make it better but also mentioned she doesn’t use the chair much. Although it was only a 30 min massage she said she had to use the chair and couldn’t use the table. I found out later that both my other coworkers who got the exact same 30 min massage received one on the massage table. Not entirely sure why I wasn’t allowed to have a table when everyone else who went did?? Overall, it was a real bad experience with poor customer service and poor action taken by the owner in resolving such an awful ordeal. I never received a follow up call regarding the haircut or anything like that. All that happened is they “fixed it” leaving me with hair to my shoulders that used to be mid-back and some sections that were still left uneven. Won’t be back!

They are under new management. I had an express facial and it was so relaxing and I was happy with the result. I will go back again for another facial!

My mother and I went to Zazen today for the first time. We both received a massage, facials and I had a mani/pedi and she had a hair cut. All I can say is I cannot recommend Zazen enough. I enjoyed every single second being there. All of the staff were wonderful, the massage was absolutely heavenly, the mani/pedi was great, my mother was extremely happy with her hair cut and we both loved our facials. We received complementary wine while we were there and the staff was very attentive and made us feel extremely comfortable. Thank you so much to everyone at Zazen today for a wonderful experience!

I have had a couple of massages that were terrible, the masseuse didnt focus on the areas requested and there was barely any pressure even after request. Could hear staff laughing and gossiping in the halls throughout the massage. I then received a very unprofessional phone call about a cancelled appointment. Staff were upset that I decided to move my appointment to my stylists new location as I have been a long time client, they proceeded to tell me she was fired and I was wrong for moving my appointment. I will not be returning and will not recommend. It has gone downhill over the last year since my initial experiences there 5 years ago.

Had a 60 Swedish massage with Madison and it was great! Her pressure was good and the room was very clean. She was thorough about explaining everything as well. Will definitely be back!

My husband and I went for Valentines day. We went for a swedish massage and within a few minutes into it we were ready to leave. They were very rough, there was nothing relaxing about the massage at all, and the person who did my massage had terrible B.O. We have gone previously and it was a rough massage as well. We were looking for something relaxing and we left sore. Not sure we will try this place again as last two times were terrible.

Very pleasant salon in upscale Bellingham waterfront area. I didnt use spa features but salon was clean, quiet and efficient. They have a stylist who is expert in relaxed hair. I suggest you give it a try.

My rating would have been 4 stars a couple of months ago, because the eyebrow and eyelash tinting is a good experience. Its not quite up to the price, in my opinion. I have gotten better for less in Oak Harbor and further south. The staff is very welcoming, and it is a nice place.Im rating them lower today because I was just made aware of their cancellation policy. I was asked to give the woman on the phone my credit card information in case of no-show or cancelled appointments. I just dont feel comfortable doing that. While I understand that time is valuable, the unexpected happens. If on top of an emergency you have to pay 50% - 100% of whatever service charge you would have had, your bad day just got worse.Also, what guarantee does this business give about your security? I trust medical professionals because their records are held to high security requirements. And if this has always been their policy, why is this the first time Ive been asked?To sum things up, I appreciated being able to get a decent dye job done here, but it wasnt above and beyond the price. The appointment policy makes me never want to make one. Walking in almost never works because theyre too busy. But, if youre lucky enough and get to have a service, you will probably have a decent experience.

Massage was not relaxing nor did she have any pressure whatsoever. My lashes were not fully done and I paid extra for a more voluminous look. There was also natural lashes glued together.

They were awesome when I got my hair and nails done. Maybe Ill be able to try there other services somtime soon .

I went here for a massage and facial as a pre wedding bridal treat day and it was AMAZING. My skin looks great, and I have sensitive skin so I was a little worried before, and the massage was so relaxing. The poor lady had to work pretty hard to get all the stress knots out of my back, but it was well worth it. I would definitely recommend it here, the environment is relaxing and the staff is so kind.

While they did not have cruelty-free products for hair coloring and could not accommodate a walk-in appointment, I was impressed with the friendly and knowledgeable staff. The salon seems very professional and Ive heard nothing but good things from my friends. If they were to being in some cruelty-free lines, I would not hesitate to use their services.

My boyfriend and I went in for a couples massage for his birthday. First off, the salon is stunning, clean and welcoming! Sadie & Tana were our masseuses and they are amazing! Tana (whom massaged me) was absolutely wonderful. I swear at times it felt like I had 4 hands working on me. We also had the back exfoliation treatment, loved it! We both truly enjoyed ourselves and will be going back! Thank you so much!

I purchased their $50 promotion. I loved all of the services except for the facial. Maybe my skin is really really sensitive, but I ended up with a burned face. Its been one week and its just gotten worse. I feel like a lizard.

Handssiwn the best place in town for a little solo pampering or a spa day with your girlfriends. Zazen has a wonderful, relaxed atmosphere and a welcoming staff, and they have services to meet all.of your needs. All of their masseuses are top notch, and the stylists are great (both my husband and I love getting our hair cut here). I highly recommend Zazen for a special treat or regular maintenance.

I went here to get my hair done and the hairdresser must have not known what she was doing because she Melted my long hair that took me 4 years to grow out that was down past my chest she melted it off all the way up to my neck hair line and I had to walk around with a pixie cut and she of corse didn’t charge me for anything but then she MADE me buy 100$ worth of products to save my hair that she chemically damaged what a joke should have gotten all that for free since she messed up my hair so bad and melted it off. DONT GO HERE!!! they don’t know what they are doing they don’t use BB3 either (Brazilian bond builder) it protects hair when being chemically dyed or treated.

Before I comment on my experience, this is where I’m coming from- For years I have tried to find someone who knows how to properly clean the surface of the skin before waxing. I have gone to places ranging from super cuts to Lisa Crosier. I inform them that post facial waxing I have experienced swelling, redness and dozens of tiny little painful zits where I was waxed. I do not wear makeup either. I have specifically asked them to clean the surface properly and to please not place a finger where a strip was just removed. What happens? They don’t clean, or if they do it’s not enough, and will use their dirty finger. I end up not being able to sleep due to the pain that lasts days and had to go to a job interview with a swollen zit mustache. Btw, I did not get the job. Not that the zit stache was the soul reason, but I witnessed them looking at it and ppl are very judgemental. There’s science that backs up the fact that ppl who have acne type issues are less likely to get a job compared to someone who doesn’t. Waxing properly matters!! I had decided to just let the hair grow, until I was encouraged to see Jen at Zazen. This woman is incredible. Because of her background she understands cleanliness. Right after the wax I was a little red but it quickly went away. And not a single zit!! It’s a freaking miracle!! I am used to having to stay inside after a waxing but now I can take on the world immediately after a fresh wax. I will see her again for my waxing needs.

As a bride I cant say I would recommend them to another bride if youre looking to do the two part trial and day of hair service. I booked the two part bridal hair that included the hair trial. When I went in for the trail I loved the facility and left feeling like it went really well. We had figured out how to do the updo that I really wanted and it looked great. The point of the trial being that the day of the wedding I could walk in feeling comfortable and confident that everything would already be figured out and knowing exactly how everything would look. She took pictures and a video so she knew how to do it and everything. Feeling comfortable with their capabilities I booked to get nails and toes done for me and my two bridesmaids as well as all of our hair for the day of. When it came to getting our nails done, we were all in general disappointed. The polish job on toes and nails wasnt worth the cost. We could have done a better job ourselves. It was the most expensive and disappointing job any of us had experienced. But we proceeded to get our hair done still because I already knew what to expect. Wrong. We showed up for hair the day of and the hairstylist had deleted all of her photos and video of my hair and didnt even apologize. She acted like it was no big deal that she was unprepared and had basically gotten paid to do a job during the trial that was completely pointless. My hair the day of did not end up looking how we had planned during the trial and I wasnt able to accommodate my veil. Not to mention the stylist commented on how I needed to correct the coloring in my hair. When I informed her I had paid another hair stylist to do it only the day before she told me she could fix it. I never thought anything was wrong with the color of my hair and found that to be a rude comment. The part that really bothered me about that was that I ended up paying the 140 for what ended up being the single day bride hair which costs 75 bucks since she started from scratch the day of. And then both my bridesmaids got charged for an updo when neither of them got one done. I had picked simpler styles so they wouldnt have to pay for an intricate updo cost. They should have been charged partial updo at most. All in all things seemed to be charged an upcharge for services we didnt actually get. I felt like as a bride who paid for the extra service of the trial and piece of mind on the day of my wedding, that this was a steep cost for not getting that at all. The facility is beautiful inside and conviently placed next to the hotel bellwether for anyone getting married there. If youre a bride who doesnt have any expectations on how you want your hair done then go for it. Our hair did look nice, not going to deny that. But I was really bothered by the fact that I didnt get what I paid for the trial for or that what they got was an updo charge for my bridesmaids.
