In my 30-year career, I could never count the number of hair salons Ive visited, seeking to cut/color/process my hair. I can count, on one hand, the number of exceptional hairdressers Ive remembered along the way. Billy falls in this category.As Im aging, Billy is helping me transition my naturally dark hair to a beautiful silver. Hes keeping things fresh with perfect cuts/shaping, contemporary ideas ( were discussing adding extensions for hi-lites), and the exceptional coloring techniques for which Billy is known.If you havent visited the Velvet Rope, I encourage you to give it a try. Beautiful salon with talented stylists and wonderful people. The walls are filled with art and culture, and the atmosphere is genuine, fun, and welcoming. Jana did a great job with my long, thick, curly hair and knew exactly how to cut and handle my curls. I will definitely want her again the next time I come in! Billy is a sweetheart, a great conversationalist, and an inspiration. The Velvet Rope is brimming with pride and love and Im very blessed to have stumbled upon this small gem right here in the heart of downtown Bellingham.

If you have a complicated or difficult cut you want try to get billy hes always given me the best emo haircuts that other hairdressers couldnt do, always thinking out of the box and does extra reasearch before doing a complicated cut. Best hairdresser ive had been going to him for years. Highly reccomend.

Ive been going to Billy for years now - wouldnt go anywhere else! Not only is he entertaining and informed, but he consistently gets what I need done with my hair and does it - from cutting to coloring to straightening to styling. Ive been to many salons because I have difficult hair to deal with, and Billy is the only one who can tame this mane and make me look professional. The ambience in the salon is energetic yet organized, and I have yet to encounter an unprofessional attitude in anyone there. Love, love, love Velvet Rope!

If youre trying to find a salon to get consistently great results, look no further. Billy did a terrific job in every aspect of his job. I gave him a brief description of what I wanted done and I got exactly that. He was extremely professional and friendly. If youre lucky enough to work with him, youll immediately be able to see his competence and recognize that youre being taken care of by a professional. I will happily drive an hour and a half to get my next cut done and avoid the risk of having my hair butchered by someone who doesnt share the same level of excellence that Billy provides. $22 for a mens haircut of this quality is also an absolute steal!

Before traveling back home to IL, I wanted to get a haircut and some color. I was nervous about letting someone do my hair as a walk in. Hannah had an open spot and was my stylist. She sat me down and asked what I was looking for. I told her a hair cut/color that said “I know what I want, just get out of my way.” My hair has been colored from home for a while now and it was damaged from heat and flame two months ago and also needed some extra conditioning. She explained the highlights would be golden due to red color I had in my hair and that she would cut what she saw to be the damaged hair off and still leave length. She was meticulous about the applying the highlights. She left the conditioner on a little extra, but the color came out fabulous! The cut also looks amazing and the feel— I have my soft silky hair back!!!!As a walk-in client, and no previous experience with the salon- I will say I am extremely pleased with my experience and that it was very affordable as well. I have been going here for three years now and have had a great experience with my hair stylist Hannah. Everyone is super friendly and you can tell they love what they do. The decor is amazing and fun to look at. The salon itself makes you feel like youre welcome compared to other establishments.

Amy was FANTASTIC! First off she was a hoot~ and we had a blast giving me the Great Gatsby haircut I so wanted. Lots of fun in a comfortable atmosphere, AND a great haircut. What more could I ask for?? Ill never to go to anyone else!!

I was really hoping this place wasnt the prim and proper theme that everyone else seems to have, and happy to say it wasnt. It felt much more genuine and Billy was so funny and chatty, I felt more than welcome. It doesnt break your wallet either, I didnt even pay the 40 minimum everyone else has! Will probably be my go-to salon from now on.

This place is rad! The stylists are super experienced and creative. The atmosphere is suger scull and old Aztec with a bit of modern graffiti style. My stylist is trained at Toni & Guy and is amazing and quick with a great sense of humor. There is no pressure to change or buy products. Very flexable scheduling and willing to please, even the most picky people (my wife).

I didnt specify very well what I wanted but I thought it was clear I wanted to have hair after we were done. I seriously thought that the haircut was finished 4 times before it was. I dont trust the stylists expertise. She seemed to use fake it til you make it showmanship and the cut was more expensive than I thought. (I think that was because I got a shampoo half way through the cut.) When I left my facial hair was way out of proportion to the hair on my head and I smelled strongly of a randy grandma. The haircut itself is not bad, (I think she fixed it a few times) just not what I wanted. On the upside, I will be saving money on shampoo.
