Jes was a great barber! Very quick and friendly. He had the coolest antiques in the barbershop too. I lounged on his sofa with the kiddos watching oldschool TV shows while my son was getting a haircut. It was very comfy.

Jes is the man! Really friendly fellow and a great barber. He encourages you to return in the following days after your haircut if you find anything youre not happy with. Overall great service and would definitely recommend.

Alright haircut for a cheap price. He messed up my beard while lining in up... frustrating. Most likely will not be coming back here again. Jes seems like a pretty nice guy though!

Great haircuts and great people. Jes senior has been cutting my hair for 20 years at the Leopold, now he has joined his son on Commercial Street. I use either of them. Really good conversation and attention to detail. Easy to find parking.

Great old fashioned barber shop, one of the best I’ve ever been to. Jes the owner is a super nice and great to talk to. Haircuts are $10 on Wednesday’s for students. Definitely worth coming back to.

First real barber Ive been to in over 15 years. Fast and effiecient. Old school, cash only. My first time in he tried to waive the cost since I only had my bank card. I went to get cash and have referred friends and family.

Wow, this place is awesome! The front window caught my eye. Jes was really friendly. Cut my hair, asked me how I liked it (I wanted it a little shorter), no problem. He spent time cutting it down, cleaning me up afterwards, and it was student Wednesday! Really good cut too. A+

Im biased, my uncle owns the shop. Its got good atmosphere and Jes (Moosie)is really funny. Graetplace to get a cut or shave.

When we first moved to Bham, it took a while to find a barber I liked, which means a good haircut and friendly but doesnt take all day. Ive been going to Jes Sr. steadily for about a year and a half and have been extremely happy with the service. I have not tried Jes Jr. yet.

Really want to do separate ratings for the people and the haircut. Jes Senior was about to lock up when we got there, but he stayed for two more heads. Super nice guy, just marked SIXTY YEARS as a barber. The shop is full of tchotchkes and old posters. Great ambience.However, the haircuts were pretty bad. Might be that Jess best barbering is behind him 🙄

I would rate this 5 star because the owner Jes is an awesome barber and an excellent conversationalist-but have to knock down 1 star for the inconsistent times of operation - in one website it says that the shop is open at 8:00 am another one is 9:00 - and on the front door it states: 9:30 ish.... Ive wasted a few hours trying to figure out exactly what time the shop actually opens - even trying to call the phone number, which is just an answering service. It would be great to have consistency because I drive quite far to get my haircut. If youre in no hurry and dont mind Caribbean time then youll love this place, its cool, eclectic, like you stepped back in time and transported in the 70s. Haircut is always precise and the conversation with Mr. Alvarez fly. Hes an old soul with a kind heart and you can tell he genuinely likes people. Parking can be tricky when busy - so try and come early.

Took my three year old son to Jes for his first professional haircut. I wanted to take him to an old fashioned barber shop like the one my father took me to. Jess place is pure nostalgia, a great piece of Americana. Jess is one heck of a nice guy, great to talk to, and had my boy looking good in no time. Great value and service.

If you want to get your beard done this is NOT the place. Nice man but not experienced
