The highest complement I can give this gym is that the only time a man has ever spoken (unprompted) to me, he was asking to take a form check video. Great gym.
Need to update hours as they are misleading. I showed up at when they say they open (5 AM) and lights were out.Other than that it’s a fantastic and fascinating place to lift at.
I got to try Hyde Park today and really enjoyed it. Good, clean facility, friendly staff and tons of equipment. I even got to lift with the owner Brook, who seems like a really nice guy. Would highly recommend!
My first workout since gyms opened again during the pandemic, and Im very impressed with the strict protocol. I felt safe at all times, and had a fabulous workout. Highly recommended!
Love his place. Once saw Major Appplewhite. The staff is really friendly and he equipment gives a good mix of what you need in terms of free weights and good machines where you dont need a spotter
Quality gym. No hassle here.
Decided to check this gym out when I first moved to Austin and glad that I did! Not only do they have all the equipment youd ever need, but the staff is super friendly and helpful as well. If I ever find myself in the area again, Ill for sure be a returning member here.
Great place its all about business getting the work done polite people
A great experiance
Awesome facility with everything I need. Stopped by here because I was visiting, and needed a place to get a good lift in (I do a lot of barbell work) along with some strength & conditioning circuits. Blake was courteous, attentive, and welcoming, and I truly appreciated the fact that he showed me around the whole place before I started my workout. (Someone get that guy a burger!) Thanks again, and Ill be back! ;-)
If you like retro gyms this is the place for you. Liked the quiet feel of this gym. Staff is awesome.
Every day I walk in the gym Im reminded of how unique the place is. There are much more smiles than frowns among members. The staff is authentic. And, the people who train, lift, and work at Hyde Park Gym cultivate a positive atmosphere.
Theres something really nice about going to a gym that is just a good ol fashioned gym. The staff is friendly and the members work hard. Its very motivating to see these people and work out around them.Im about 6 months pregnant and wanted to hire a trainer to help me build muscle so Id be able to bounce back soon after delivery. Josh Trammell has been working with my husband and me for a few weeks now and I have seriously never worked out more hard and confidently in my life.Josh has been very strategic in how he develops our workout routines. He makes sure we understand and practice proper form and body movements before we really push it. After about 3-4 weeks of training 3 times a week, Ive gone higher in my upper body weights than I ever have in my life (I was very much a beginner, but without the accountability, form training, and encouragement of a trainer like Josh, I could hardly make the same kind of improvements on my own).HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend Joshs personal training services at Hyde Park Gym. Im gonna be a damn fit pregnant lady by month 9.
I love Hyde Park Gym and can’t imagine working out anywhere else. I was lucky enough to train with Dave Goodin. He really knows his stuff. The people and culture of Hyde Park Gym make it great!
The atmosphere is as intimidating as it is inspiring.I visited Hyde Park Gym while on a work trip and decided to meet my coach there. As a new Weightlifter, I was so impressed with the facility and all of the strong people utilizing it.There were ample machines, bars, weights, and platforms for weightlifters and powerlifters alike. The nostalgia brought in with all of the images of athletes throughout the years is strong and the members are friendly. Will be visiting next time I’m in Austin.
Great gym, staff are really friendly. All the equipment and weights that you need. The atmosphere is calm and allows you to find us and get your training done efficiently. Membership rates are great.
Ive been working out at Hyde Park Gym for the past few months and I have to agree with the rest of the 5-star reviews here, its awesome. No frills, no show-offs, no Im in better shape than you attitudes, just people trying to get better.Everybody Ive encountered so far has been extremely nice and welcoming. I especially like that they open the doors up and let a breeze come through - it feels more natural that way for me instead of being inside a high-tech open room that has a TV everywhere you look.If youre looking to get in better shape, dont want to deal with anything extra, want a convenient location, and simply work out - this gym is for you.I dont think youll ever be disappointed working out here.
All the essentials for proper powerlifting workout! Opens early enough for morning workout before heading to the office.
I love this gym and I will never ever go to a different gym. My company has a gym in it and I still drive the 10 minutes out of my way to go to Hyde Park. Everyone in this gym is there to have a good ass work out. Theyre not there to hangout, to play on their phone, or to take it easy, theyre there to pick up some heavy ass weights. The energy is amazing and unmatched at any other gym. I cant recommend this place enough. Warning: not for people whose idea of a gym is a line of treadmills and a couple squat racks
Back in the early 90’s I first set foot in this old school gym. I trained here till 2002 before leaving the city. I’m came back and tried another gym because of it’s close proximity, but after many years there, I’m back home in the gym that started it all for me. This place looks intimidating with the massive flexed arm jutting out of the building, and yes, there are some serious athletes, but also some old timers and, what would be considered “normal looking” people. The one common thread is that everyone is friendly and most will gladly share a piece of gym equipment if needed.
Love this old school gym. It’s clean & every single person is so warm & welcoming. Everyone is there to get a great work out in. Highly recommend!
Probably one of the best gyms I have ever used. Good culture, good people, good lifting. It is bare bones, but its everything you need.
I’ve been coming to Hyde Park Gym (HPG) for years and consider it my second home. This gym has plenty of equipment to put in serious work, whether you’re a strength athlete or someone looking to improve their health.HPG may look intimidating (due to the old school atmosphere and giant flexing arm), but you’ll quickly realize it’s everything but. The people I’ve met here are kind, supportive, and a pleasure to be around. They even re-rack their weights! For membership plans, HPG have several options: day passes, 10 visit punch cards, weekly, monthly, quarterly, biannually, annually, and recurring plans via PayPal. They offer a trial week for Austin residence that want to try HPG for the first time.If you’re looking for a gym with:- A good community- plenty of free weights- access to Olympic weightlifting, powerlifting, and strongman equipment- day passes and a several membership optionsthen HPG is the gym you want.
Friendly gym, serious weightlifting equipment and good prices.
Great hardcore/old school gym. Equipment is old but well maintained. Great atmosphere. Good to do business with as well.
Great old school gym. Low daily prices. Simple place for even complex workouts. Definitely recommend it!
Hands down the best gym in Austin. If youre serious about working out but dont want to go to a gym just to be seen (Golds etc), this is the place. Great trainers ask about Ryan Rhudy
Locally owned and operated, keeping Austin real. A truly one-of-a-kind old school gym. Whether youre there for weight lifting, power lifting, body building, or basic cardio and weight training, this place rocks!
Best locally run gym in town. No frills and no BS; old school!
Old roid gym with no drama gear and great pricing. If you like a gym where people are real about getting fit and not hung up on the fashion of fitness this is a great place for you. It has every machine to isolate muscles and a tonne of freeweights. The cardio equipment/machines are pretty non existent so if thats your thing go for a run around the block instead.
Great gym. Went to it twice while visiting Austin. True powerlifing gyms are few and far between. There was lots of equipment you dont see in most gyms (plenty of squat racks, thank god) but plenty of stuff for even the casual gym goer. It was nice to see a good mixture of men and women when I went which was nice to see. All of who seemed to take things pretty seriously but most importantly it was a positive motivating environment to work in.I wish there was something like this in Houston were I work. If I ever end up moving to Austin Ill be sure to live nearby to this gym.
Real gym with no gimmicks. Room full of squat racks, which is a nice change. Barely ever packed!
Hyde Park Gym has the oldschool hard core electric atmosphere with awesome well-maintained retro equipment! Very clean and very good Gym!
A hardcore gym. If youre a bodybuilder, olympic lifter, or powerlifter (professional or otherwise) then you should be aware this is pretty much the only option in Austin. And its a great option. Its no Planet Fitness, you go to Hyde Park to work. If that sounds appealing, you shouldnt think twice before signing up.
Great old school envioment & friendly staff. Will be returning when I go back to Austin.
I started going here a few weeks ago. Its a great gym for the serious lifter: everything you need, motivated and focused gym-goers, and not full of fancy gimmicks.
I was visiting Austin for a week for a conference and bought a week pass here. I always like training at more serious and hardcore gyms, even when I travel. Although to many newbie lifters, hardcore gyms can seem intimidating, if you come in to do work, these are really great atmospheres where members get to know each other and support each other regardless of goal (just get in shape, lose some pounds, or something more extreme like competitive powerlifting or bodybuilding). The gym is an old school facility. Much of the equipment could be in a fitness museum. Belts, chalk, lots of racks and platforms, 1980s era bodybuilding posters from local shows give it an old school vibe. However, it is kept clean, which is not always the case at some old school gyms. Solid gym.
Hpg has been my home gym for about 8 months now. I really like it. The atmosphere is welcoming and friendly. Its a legit strength, oly and bb gym. The equipment is plentiful and maintained well and lacks the polished glam of other globo-gyms ...which is perfect. This place has soul and history! Husefeld stones too!!
Awesome place to workout.....friendly staff....superb equipment.....old school though......
Been going here for years, one of the best gyms in Austin with the best community in Austin.
No military discount (you are a gym in the biggest military state in the union lol). Was very crowded with most the equipement not being in that good of shape which is fine, but not at the prices they charge for membership. Not a bad gym, just not a good one
Original! Great place to work out!
Best place for lifting!
Best gym in austin. Caters to hardcore, olympic lifters, bodybuilders, crossfitters and the like. Plenty of squat racks, bumper plates, lifting platforms, GHDs, Reverse hyper, all kinds of leg presses, etc.Very friendly staff
No frills gym, best in town
Great powerlifting gym with old school feel
Great, REAL gym. No fluff, just weights and nice people.
Nice neighborhood gym
LOOOOOVE HPG
