I had a membership here for a while before the pandemic hit and enjoyed the layout and running cinema. Once the pandemic hit, we were told that our plans would be frozen for six months so that we wouldnt be charged for the months they were closed. I knew my plan was supposed to renew during this six months so I replied to their email update with the request to cancel my membership instead. I received an email back saying that I would have to cancel in person.....while all locations were closed. Ended up paying for extra months until I could go in person to cancel.
Am new to town and signed up for a month to month membership, $30 was a good deal and they have great equipment. I found a different gym closer to me and canceled my membership at Golds. What I didn’t know, is that you’ll get charged an additional 30 days regardless of when you cancel. I’m surprised this is legal, but it’s probably somewhere in the fine print. Quite hilarious that customers are treated that way. Never getting a membership at any location ever again.
Best Golds location in Austin. Staff is great too!
The service the staff provides here is of the best Ive ever received at any gym Ive been apart of. Im glad Im able to come here frequently and know the team members at this Golds give off great vibes. Lets get it!
Great gym. Always busy. Great staff. Including personal trainers.
Its so hot in here. I dont know if its the air circulation, but prepare to sweat more than normal. It has all of the equipment, but not much room. I prefer free weights, but its always crowded in that area. I just do cardio.
The gym is well maintained and the staff seems really nice. Sometimes locker rooms have that funk but everything was nice most of the patrons were wearing mask and everyone was very respectful. Looking forward to making this my local gym! 👍
Good spot. Not as new as other location but gets the job done. Easy parking
This really really has everything youd expect from a gym. Wide variety of machines and equipment, relatively clean restroom, sauna and lockeroom area and theres even a small track that revolves around the perimeter of the gym. They also offer Golds Fit, yoga and even a daycare. Unfortunately I live in North Austin but if Im ever in the area Ill be back for sure.
Great selection and layout but by far the worst smelling golds Ive been to in the area! Smells like my high school football locker room. Muggy funk! Do better please.
This gym has caused me so much stress! They always “lose” my card and then begin charging me fees for ever “late” payment. There wouldn’t be any late payments if they knew how to keep a card on file. I’ve even sat with Sunny the main person there and had her put my info in and she promised it would stay in their system... don’t recommend this place. The night staff is chill tho.
Love it, they have white machines!!! Plus nobody screams
Really good gym but way too much Facebooking
It’s an affordable and functional gym. Yes, it is packed during peak hours, yes it is kinda grimy and yes they could use more 35lbs dumbells, but for price and convenience it works. Crowd is surprisingly nice, not too much grunting, most restack weights and wipe off, and more than half still wearing masks, so kudos to us :-) I recommend!
This companys billing practices are questionable at best. Join this gym if you would like to be charged in perpetuity despite canceling months ago. They simply used COVID as an excuse to extend your obligation period.
Great equipment and staff. I love they make sure people are fully wearing a mask and wiping down the equipment. I want this place to stay open and glad Golds staff takes the extra steps to keep us safe. The gym is pretty constantly cleaned and the bathrooms and showers (which most gyms do not do). so the gym does not smell like old funk, and it does not stink of bleach. Some of the equipment is old, but this gym is pretty specialized and not a pretty gym. if you have specific muscle groups you need to work out, this is one of the few that is not 3x the price. If you want a clean gym with no attitude (except for the people who wont wear a mark) that you can get a really great workout, here you go.
Closing at 7 on Sundays is weaksauce! Why not just close shop at 10am???
Solid layout. Typically pretty clean. Usually not packed except for rush hour. Could use an upgrade on cardio equipment but there are plenty of machines and free weights
Consider joining a locally owned business before giving money to this corporation. As the manager sunny said “we are not a mom and pop shop, this is a corporation”. You are not a member you are a number and that’s how you’ll be treated. Shop local, not here, if you have a problem in the future they will not negotiate or offer assistance. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere, don’t spend your money here.
Know What Youre Signing Up For! Even if you Cancel your Membership before the next charge date, they will Charge you for the month you dont plan to use. In my case, I left since they abandoned all COVID protections as soon as they were able to. Obviously if I left to not get infected by COVID I cant use this last month theyre charging me for, its ridiculous. When I asked for a copy of the document I signed that said I would pay this, the employee would not provide it and got very angry at me.If you can find another gym that doesnt do this, choose that one instead. I was a customer for 6 years, but never going back again - no wonder they had to file for bankruptcy last year. For Golds, the equipment condition at this location was about as good as Golds can do. Fairly limited cardio equipment available. Never needed to interact with staff there so cant say much about them.
Trust the reviews. All this talk about easy cancellation / no contract nonsense. Nope. Cancelled three months ago and still being billed despite all efforts. Very ok location, nothing special. Go elsewhere, especially if you aren’t planning on staying very long
Don’t believe them when they say you’re good after canceling, get it in writing. Canceled and haven’t been in years and passed on debt accrued after the cancellation to a collection agency. Also there is “nothing they can do”. Shady is too nice of a term to describe them.
Always humid in this gym. Gym could use some dehumidifiers to help regulate it.
If you need to speak to anyone, just call corporate directly. Dont wait on return calls when someone promises a manager- they dont plan on calling. Kyle the front desk manager doesnt respond to emails (after he initiates contact) and the phone will just have you on hold for literal hours (not an exaggeration).
Thus location could definitely be cleaner, but its not too bad. Good equipment selection. . Staff are friendly.
Good gym, decent setup, needs to have TVs visible in the weights areas and not only by the cardio.
Great place to work out
I really enjoyed this gym. My wife and I recently moved away from Austin and we have struggled anywhere else after being at the Ben White Golds. The gym was nice and the staff was always helpful. People were friendly at this location and there was a good workout culture. The number 1 top reason we appreciated this place, however, was because of the kids club. Nelda and the team were lights out. Our son went there most days from age 6 months until he was almost 2. I feel like the care he received was like he was being watched by family. The kids in the kids club were always being engaged, were taught sharing and social skills, and all seemed to be happy. This kids club is not just a holding pen for your children while you work out. I am fairly certain that our sons favorite time of the day was when he got to the gym and was greeted with smiles from the outstanding kids club team.Thank you, thank you, thank you.
A very clean facility and friendly staff. Hit the weights with noooo worries.
Great spot never feels crowded in there
Not happy that masks are no longer required... 🤷♂️😷
My favorite place to be without equivocation. Sign up today and check out the classes. Meet personal trainers who help you get the most out of your workout. I have lots of good friends at Golds and we all enjoy working on ourselves.
I cant say its the best, its not the worst either, but they make unauthorized charges.
Great gym
I love this place.i enjoy the selection of machines.
Decent gym. Staff at this location are mostly very apathetic. A couple of the staff are very friendly though. Depends on who you get.
The people here are really rude. The managers are rude. They watch you and harass you if a mask isn’t covering your nose fully
I workout here about 3-4 times a week and I love it. They have any machine that you would need for any type of workout. I am currently working with the personal trainer Sebastian and he is awesome. Extremely knowledgeable, patient, and helpful. I am working out with him one day a week but he gave me a workout plan to stick to and I feel great. He understands my goals and is helping me to achieve them as fast as possible while keeping my general health and well being in mind. Not to mention he is incredibly nice and just a cool guy to talk to.
My favorite gym in Austin. This location has a rubberized track for walking and running. Great selection of classes with very good instructors. I love the movie theater at this location
Awful gym, awful customer service from corporate and from the gyms, and will definitely never join again. War charged multiple times during COVID19, even late fees for whatever reason even though the gyms were closed, and customer service never answered. Once again, but not surprised, corporate gyms treating their members like garbage. Support a local gym!
Hot, humid, and stinky.
My husband and I drive from north austin to specifically go to the gym because of the kids club. The kids club is like no other golds or daycare. They truly care about my children and have become like family to me. Nelda has an amazing team there. Not only that but the admin at this golds is incredibly nice.
This gym is terrible now. Its full of people with no gym etiquette and a staff just as clueless. Absolutely no enforcement of standard gym rules makes it even worse. Its no longer an enjoyable gym environment. Dumbells are taken to all corners of the gym and not returned. Same with barbells. The staff is usually too busy watching videos on their cell phones or knitting at the front desk to try and make the place better. People sit on benches and machines and play with their cell phones non stop while others wait in them. The treadmills are never clean. Most are covered with sweat stains. There is no excuse for the equipment to never be cleaned. If you want to hang out and be in the way of people who want to workout this is your place. Otherwise pay the extra money and go to a gym with people who know how to act.
I love the indoor track
I really enjoy this gym!!! Its easy access off 71. Gym is packed with equipment, staff is welcoming always, lastly the staff works efficiently at keeping it Clean. Rarely broken equipment. Golds offers multiple plans and at a reasonable price. Ive been a member since 2013 and it since now is a part of my new life style. I also love that golds is a national chain and I am able to use my membership when I travel across the states.
Golds gym. Had a great workout. Massive space filled with equipment. Staff was very cool, and presentable. Bought a GOLDS GYM T shirt. Attractive staffer at the front desk signed my Golds gym bag.
THIS GYM WILL NOT BEND TO THE FINE PRINT. When i signed up, I was informed that after 3 months i would not be liable to make payments. I would have to come in to pay monthly. I emailed the GM to make sure this was correct thinking she canceled the membership for me. I still got charged another month. I was fine paying the third month regardless of moving away however Paying for an extra 4th month of services I am not able to use is ridiculous. The do not care about their customers at all.The staff at the front desk was rude half the time, and the kids club had a wait of 30- 1hr even though it is an additional cost. Sometimes the kids club would close early because they just decided to close early per the rude guy at the front desk.Machines are always out of order, its too small with a high volume of customers.DONT waste your time at this location. The one downtown is better.
Great silver sneakers class with Janelle.
I actually really liked this location but the management is unprofessional. I Signed up through a trainer named Lili who was super awesome! And it was explained we (my account plus my friend who was added on my account for $19.99) could cancel at anytime, no contract except apparently there was one and I had to sign a form that I was terminating my membership which okay fine, then I get charged again the next month and when I reached back out to Stephanie the assistant general manager, she said I didn’t cancel in enough time so I got charged another $81 then she assured me I would no longer be charged. Now I just got charged AGAIN and she said that’s because I only canceled my account and not the add on account that’s it. Not a my mistake, I’ll get that corrected if you could just fill this form out and send it back or, let me reach out to my general manager and see what we can do.When someone says they want their entire account deleted that means the whole thing. Not half of it! And as the assistant general manager wouldn’t you double check that? I shouldn’t have to ask someone how to do their job or provide good customer service.I’m no longer a fan of golds gym but if you are, the people who work at the William cannon location are way more helpful. It might be worth signing up with them so you don’t have issues if you’re not going to stay with them.
The evening lady manager is really rude, I mean you don’t have to go to ppl and stop their workout to remind them about the mask should cover your nose and the janitor guy walking around thinking he is a secret spy and watching ppl, dude get a life.
Solid gym choice. All the equipment you need. Staff is friendly. I’ve even made some friends here. My only complaint is the hours... on weekends they need to stay open until at least 10pm in my opinion. Other than that, I’m happy.
CAUTION! Think twice before signing ANY contract for membership at Ben White location. Visit another gym or location! In June of 2018, I tore meniscus in my left knee in several places which required surgery & a longer than average recovery period since I have arthritis & am over age 60.You cannot cancel a Gold’s Gym membership by phone or email so I hobbled in on crutches to fill out the form. After completing form, I asked young blond associate at front counter if my credit card would be charged again after handing him the form. Twice, he replied “No” so imagine my surprise when my card was charged again!I went in a second time to speak directly to Manager Sunny Reese who informed me to read the fine print in my contract. Although she could see that I was on crutches, had my knee wrapped, and was in pain, told me that I would have to bring back a written physician statement. She showed no sympathy & took zero responsibility for her employee providing misinformation about canceling my membership. You cannot call Gold’s Gym’s Customer Care directly by phone. None of the neighboring Gold’s Gyms would give name / number of Ms. Reese’s supervisor, but I eventually found a compassionate manager who advocated for me.In the meantime, I filed a dispute with my credit card company which credited me back for the two charges that had occurred, but did not identify these charges on my statement as being from Gold’s Gym. By law, when Capital One contacts merchant about a disputed charge, the merchant has 90 days to respond in writing to appeal to have credit card company reverse the credit & charge consumer the amount again. To make a long story short, Gold’s Gym did not contact Capital One during 90 days so my refund was not reversed. Gold’s Gym then credited $97.40 back to my card in August, but then charged a mysterious (punitive?) $40.00 fee on September 7, after membership had been canceled.I was unaware that I was credited twice with a refund since “Gold’s Gym” only appeared once on my credit card statement. After automatically paying my membership for 3+ years (Approximately $4,000+ in dues and personal trainer’s fees) without a single missed or late payment, NO ONE from Gold’s Gym bothered to contact me about this clerical error. Instead, in December, Gold’s Gym sent it to a COLLECTIONS AGENCY!!! (I have an 834 credit Score.) I have been trying for more than a month to resolve this issue without success. “Customer Care” reps only communicate via email and do not sign their names. If you are considering being a member at this location, READ the contract CAREFULLY. Expect to be charged for another month AFTER canceling membership. Protect yourself by NOT giving Gold’s Gym access to your credit card. EXPECT a MAJOR HASSLE when you need to cancel. Go to another gym where management & staff understand meaning of customer service & are capable of demonstrating a little compassion.
I love this gym. Its not too flashy, but well equipped and friendly.
Cris, the team member at the front desk was extremely friendly, kind, and helpful.
Rude office staff, what happened to Golds customer service, the evening manager or front desk lady is pretty arrogant and rude.
Good gym. Great variety of equipment. A little dingy on the inside.
Terrible customer service - Gold’s Gym in general, not necessarily this location.
Great
I love this gym because they offer yoga classes in the evening which works with my busy schedule. The staff is super friendly and knowledge.
I’ve tried to cancel my membership so many times with this place and they KEEP charging me. Everytime I speak to someone at the gym they’re extremely rude and make it seem like it’s my fault. Tried to cancel my membership twice! I waited until my 3 month contract was over (it’s been 5 months) and I called to cancel because I am out of the country. The first time it was never documented and the second time I was promised it was cancelled but then I got charged again today! I was told that it takes 30 days to process after I cancelled it... I cancelled the day after I was charged so it fell within the 30 days. What a convenient little policy on their part! Anyways, I’ve never written a review but this place has literally been just taking my money so before you sign up with this place you should ask how hard it is to cancel their service. Might be better if you just go somewhere else.
Another day that I get there at 4AM and gym was not opened. I waited for 35 minutes and still NO ONE showed up. VERY DISAPPOINTED!
There is a lot of equipment to use here which makes it interesting to come and work out here. The only reason I gave this a 4 star is because once I cut my arm and the staff did not have any thing to disinfect the wound, I had to leave in just a paper towel. But besides that I rate the gym highly because of the plentifulness of the equipment
I’ve been coming here for years and asked about the WiFi many times. It’s still terrible. Should be a relatively easy fix!
It is what it is, a gym.
Weak people complaining about face mask...Its a gym..TRAIN!! BREATHE
Recently remodeled. Pretty good size space. They could definitely use more free weights, but otherwise a good gym.
I was just in town visiting family and have never been to a Golds before but this specific Golds has a great layout! The factor that had me sold though was the great staff and personal trainers, especially Brittany - so kind and funny! Ill definitely stop by here again next time I visit Austin!
Friendly staff, very clean and a great kids play area. The staff at the kids play area are upbeat, friendly and attentive with the little ones. There is also a great indoor track at this location.
Ive had nothing but good experiences at Golds on Ben White. Its not fancy, although they have some really advanced systems Ive not progressed to yet. It has a large variety of equipment to train all ways. The staff is always friendly and helpful. I had no previous experience with gym workouts and got a trainer from the start: the guided workouts are ideal for me, and I have progressed at a rapid and safe rate, far beyond what I could have done on my own.
Staff is friendly. The trainers are great. Some of the equipment is a bit warn and their schedule for replacement is now known. Also, the mens lockeroom is not kept up well enough for my tastes.
Terrible Customer Service and inconsistent knowledge and application of policy. I have been a loyal member since 1997. I pay my membership annually in advance. This year I got my 12 and 11 year old son and daughter a membership where I pay monthly. The payment for current month had not been paid for my kids membership because my bank card number changed. I asked nicely to wait until tomorrow to clear up. I was not allowed to workout being told since it was a family plan that I personally could not workout. This makes no sense to me. I have prepaid for the year. I shouldnt be denied access. This is ridiculous!
The best accommodations ever. Love working out.
Each golds out here tailors to a different person. This particular Golds suits what I need. They maintain the equipment well and have a great setup. The nice thing about golds is that each location is different. I recommend trying other locations in the area until you find one that suits your style. The only thing this place is lacking is a smoothie bar, theres another location in south Austin that has one though.
Since Sunny Reese became manager of Golds Gym on Ben White, its been noticeably well taken care of. You just get the sense that somebody cares, and its a happy place. Used to, I went to the front desk to report that there were no green T-bands. The staffperson said, Yeah, people take them. Um, yeah. Now, there are three green T-bands, plus all the other colors. Plenty of matts that are in good condition. Weights put up where they go. You know where to look for things, and they are in their place. The gym is well taken care of & that makes you feel good about going to do your workout. And then, theres Leon Miller, the best trainer ever. He knows his stuff and knows how to train to the individual, with attention to form.
Honestly if you love lifting, youll appreciate the equipment here.
This gym is crazy crowded even at what would normally be considered non-peak times to go. That coupled with their limited free weight equipment makes this a difficult gym to go to and either get a full workout in or get done in a timely manner. While I do frequent this gym sometimes I drive out to the Golds at Belterra which is far superior just for a little more breathing room.
Ive been a loyal member since it was first World Gym. They made some upgrades. Sadly, they took away the womens area to add another thing that they can charge extra for. Many ladies enjoyed working out in the womens area. They didnt ask for input from members. Just sad.
My local gym is in San Antonio and I just started working in Austin, so I came to this location. Staff was friendly overall clean but the amenities are lacking greatly. There are no small towel for your work out or towels for the showers . My other golds gym not only had towels but shampoo, conditioner, q-tips, disposable razors and various other things that are greatly appreciated when you forget something and cant go home for it.Maybe the Golds Gyms in SA have me spoiled or this location just needs to step up their game.
They just remodeled this place so it has a fresh updated feel to it. Parking is so-so. Staff is always friendly when I scan my badge. Equipment is ok. They have 3 squat racks, 4 flat benches, 3 smith machines and 1 power lifting station. Locker rooms are always clean.
Great environment, friendly staff, great Silver Sneakers Classes and instructors. When you come in you are greeted with a smile. Be sure to stop at the front desk to tell Shawny hello. . 😀 She s the BEST.
Horrible experience, I had an emergency where I had to cancel the next day, I signed up and the person who signed me up said they would take care of it. I was charged less then a month later and then went in to personally have it canceled and I was charged again! Instead trying to conserve their business “oh I’m sorry is everything ok”, they try to be slick and get money. It was still available for a full refund at the time of cancellation! Wouldn’t recommend a gym that doesn’t actually care for its customers.
Hey. I can’t find an email for location management. You need to re up on your 35, 40, and 45 lb kettlebells. Missing those.
Good sized gym. Had equipment to fit everyone’s needs. Some of the equipment is a little older and could be updated, but still very functional.
Great place!
Very good place for early morning workouts. No fuss. No muss.
I love this gym. Could be a bit cleaner tho. Also I wish they had towels to use here.
Edit:So I rejoined Golds this year and I must say theres been a huge change. Ive really enjoyed working out at this location and the staff has been way more helpful since my original experience. Anyone deterred by my original post should definitely consider joining now!Original:Careful, these guys will make it next to impossible to cancel your membership once its active. They kept sending me to their support number then back into the gym. The only way to cancel your membership is to talk to a general manager and they put you through a whole sketchy song and dance before you can finally cancel it. Seriously, what a waste of time. The gym is fine, I was just using it to cross train for another sport and didnt need the membership after I was done rehabbing.
I have been a member at this gym for awhile now. Excellent gym highly recommend Golds.
I really like this location! The staff is great! My trainer Pete Bennett really knows a lot about fitness and nutrition. I would recommend him in a heartbeat.
I love this gym! Everyone there is great but If you have a chance to work with a personal trainer Ryan Hanson is amazing. I work with him and he will get you to your goal in no time so ask for Ryan!
Great gym that lets me use my travel pass when Im in town. Variety of machines and decent workout space. Trainers seem helpful and willing to give advice/spot.
Great atmosphere and has everything I need in a gym.
Over the last month Ive had several bad experiences but today was it. One of the members throws up in a basket instead of going to the bathroom to throw up . This same member then leaves the basket in a corner and doesnt say anything . Its enough that the mens locker room smells Everytime Ive been in there this past month but now the workout area smells like puke. The staff at the front are not any better. A female staff member threatened to have my vehicle towed from a handicap spot. I even explained to her that I had disabled veteran plates that allowed me to park there but she did not care.I plan on stopping my membership to this gym and going somewhere else. Dont waste tour money on this gym.
I would agree that the locker rooms could be cleaner, but overall this is a great gym! The management has been awesome about working with me on programs/plans that work for my busy lifestyle and budget. Ive been working with a personal trainer, Leon, and he is super! Very knowledgable about life injuries and making sure that Im using good form for maximum results and physical care. I highly recommend Leon if you are looking for an experienced, versatile personal trainer who understands how to build muscle after your body has taken some of lifes hits. I would suggest to management that the movie room should really show sit-coms instead of 90 minute movies. Seems like more people would use it if you could go in for a 20 min time block for cardio. If you are looking for an unpretentious gym with solid staff, then this is a good one!
Its a gym. Its reasonably priced and has everything it needs. Only complaint is that theres not any sort of map of which machines are where, because theres quite a few.
The Les Mills group exercise are HEAVEN. The teachers are phenomenal and the group ex room is really big. I belong to Golds for the instructors, and this location has a great mix of classes. I highly recommend Body Pump, Body Combat, Body Jam, CXWorx, and RPM.
Typical gym. Got mostly enough equipment. Could update some of the older stuff.WiFi is horrible though. Shoddy connection. Not hard to add some hardware to fix this.
Ive been to this gym a few times and like the short indoor track, the cardio room with a video wall is also awesome. They have a variety of classes you can go to as well. If you can get a good deal on a membership I think its a good place to go.
