I attended the Peaceful Warrior women’s self-defense seminar about a week ago with a friend. Dan taught the skills I need to feel confident living in downtown Austin. Among the curriculum, He covered breaking free of choke holds and wrist grabs which are the two things that I especially wanted to learn. He is a great enthusiastic instructor. We both learned a lot and the drills are a good workout too.
This is a great class covering different drills in different scenarios. Something every woman should be familiar with. I will definitely consider taking this class again to keep my memory fresh!
Last Saturday, I attended a fantastic seminar known as Peaceful Warrior - Women. From the start, I felt welcomed and listened to as a variety of self defense techniques were presented and practiced. Not only was the experience a lot of fun; I felt as though I had truly been shown usable and effective self-defense options. Im looking forward to the next opportunity to train with Austin Self Defense.
Useful while still being fun and not too intense or intimidating. I would definitely go back and I reccomend it to others to help with their defense skills!
Dan is AMAZING! Highly recommend! I wish I had done this years ago! I am confident in being able to defend myself now. The skills Dan taught me will last a lifetime. I am also signing up my son and daughter for Dan’s classes!
I was introduce to Austin Self Defense by my daughters. They enrolled in a class and were impressed with the fundamental training and basic moves to take if approached by an assailant. After my introductory class I realized it was not necessary to be a student of the martial arts to defend myself. I am now of the belief that it would be in everyones best interest to have an essential understanding of self defense. Austin Self Defense provides all levels of personal protection and I would recommend it to everyone at all ages.
So happy to have taken Austin Self Defense courses with Dan! I was really hesitant to go to a self defense class. I didn’t know what to expect or how intense it was going to be. I am so thankful I worked with Dan. He was incredibly knowledgeable and explained everything clearly. As someone who has had an incident or two where I really needed to have known basic skills to protect myself, I was anxious to even be in a “practice scenario”. Dan completely respected my concerns, made sure I felt comfortable before learning anything new and helped me get to a place where I can confidently defend myself in so many different situations. Truly grateful for his professionalism and expertise. I can’t wait to continue training and encourage my friends to do the same! Thank you Dan!
I have been taking self defense classes with Austin Self Defense off and on for over 15 years. Dan Kiser the instructor is the best i have met. He is passionate about training you for your needs and abilities. He extremely experienced in his art and helps you get the most out off each session. I highly recommend ASD, especially in the uncertain times we live in. Be prepared to defend your family and friends.
Great self defense class!!
Started taking classes with Dan about a month ago. Never taken anything like thos in my life.. Found Dan to be super helpful and a great instructor. Goes into detail of what, where and how your stance should be in different situations! Highly recommend checking into Austin Self Dwfense.
Very friendly, patient and extremely competent instructor/owner. He teaches a very practical self defense style,Krav Maga, at your own pace. He is very intuitive about his students’ skill and fitness level and works with you to acquire self defense skills. He is a very encouraging positive teacher.
I want to say thank you for inviting me and my friend to check out your facility! I really enjoyed how you took the time to give us a tour and explain the routine of the class - for new person, it helps them be aware of what to expect. Dan is very confident and knowledgeable, yet he really made me feel comfortable. The facility and intimate classes are great! Everyone collaborates with each other and gets involved - one example that comes to mind is that several people volunteered to demonstrate tasks, without you having to call upon them. It made the class flow very smoothly. I definitely recommend Austin Self Defense to anyone looking for a more interactive work out.
My two daughters and two friends worked w/ Dan on self-defense. Dan packed a lot into a 2-hour session. Dan is the best: professional, courteous, and very knowledgeable. Dans explanations were very detailed and the lessons my daughters learned will be valuable to them. Looking forward to scheduling another session on how to defense against different choke scenarios.
My family has been going to Austin Self Defense for a few months and it blows away everything we have done in the past. The learning curve is fast and effective. Thanks Dan!!!
My wife and I have been coming to Dan for self defense and have been enjoying the experience. He is very knowledgable and patient, a great teacher overall. He has a great can-do attitude, he breaks things down for us in a way we can understand, and we feel like in a very short time we have now only learned self-defense tactics, but also have developed more awareness of our surroundings. We always have a good time, while also feeling we are learning a very valuable skill.
Dan Kiser is a very patient trainer with complete command and knowledge of his art/craft. Dan observes, asks questions and more importantly keeps class objectives on task which makes makes one feel that one is getting great value for ones money. I found myself applying the skills in everyday life. I feel more vigilant and confident in this ever changing world is certainly more dangerous than it was just 5 years ago. Dan class objectives are attainable. I left the class feeling like I made progress because the objectives and order of skills taught are very logical and not overwhelming. I highly recommend Dan Kiser and Austin Self Defense.
Update: The owner has contacted me and was completely unaware of the situation and the way it was handled through his member solutions company. Since then, he has been in contact with them and has negotiated a one time courtesy membership cancellation based on the information provided with regard to our account. It should be cleared from my credit report soon hopefully if they are sincere. I am very pleased that he took the time to handle this himself and didnt realize that he really wasnt in control of the member solutions decision with regard to the contract. I hope this takes care of the situation and hopefully it doesnt happen to anyone else. LEBe Aware! My Son started this class in September 2012 at the age of 16. He was diagnosed as a child with scoliosis and he could do most of what other children could do and we wanted him to be able to protect himself. Shortly thereafter, in October we had a new MRI ordered by his primary physician that showed progression of his curvature and we were sent to the neurosurgeon for further evaluation. He stated that in order to avoid surgery we would need to strengthen certain muscles in the spine and avoid impact activity that might further damage or cause injury or instability to the spine. I kept paying on the monthly program at Austin Self Defense, thinking that soon he might be able to attend classes again. In June of 2013 it was decided that he could not attend and that is when I started the cancellation process due to medical condition. I went through the usual hoops with the billing company providing them with the proper documentation, MRI, doctor reports and note from the neurosurgeon explaining my sons condition and their recommendations to avoid impact activity. I was told that he had a pre-existing condition due to the fact that he was actually diagnosed before we signed the contract. I spent many months trying to explain the possibility of progression of an otherwise stable condition, but this fell on deaf ears. I was told that If he had broken his leg, it would be much easier to cancel. Really? What a crock!! Needless to say, we stopped payment on the monthly draft as he had not attended for over 6months. I was sent to collections and each time the customer service representative sympathized with me but stated there was nothing they could do. My repeat attempts to notify the owner went unanswered. I thought surely he could see the necessity of the situation and make a judgment call himself to rectify the situation, but he never even looked at the case to my knowledge. As a medical professional myself, knowing the gravity of the situation with regard to my sons condition, I think this is a huge injustice. I have since been turned over to collections for the remainder of my two year contract and now this has been placed on my credit as a bad debt in dispute. I am sure that the facility and the instructors may be great but their attention paid to their clients and lack of personal handling of a situation like this is just unconscionable. They could care less and are only concerned about money owed for services not even rendered to a boy who could have been severely harmed by continuing to take their class.
As someone who has trained in MMA for many years I find that Dan at Austin Self Defense is a very effective, knowledgeable and experienced Krav Maga instructor. If you want to learn effective self defense for off the mat Austin Self Defense is a must.
I really relish working with Dan Kiser. He taught me important footwork, and authentic Krav Maga. He showed me how to use very good tools. Especailly, when i came down to that bad situation. To anyone out there that wants to learn Krav Maga or Haganah..Dan is the man!
