Took a risk yesterday going to a different barber than my usual. Thought I’d try a different barber shop and man did it impress! I scheduled an appointment with Matt Wandersee after looking at his work on Instagram and it did not disappoint! This dude knows what he is doing! I will be going back! Definitely recommend this shop!

Normally dont review businesses but felt I needed to for my most recent visit. Let me preface by saying Ive been to this location as well as Slaughter for a few years now and have had an overall good experience and believe they do have quality barbers. Though my last cut with Jesse Gonzales has me reconsidering. I asked for a fade and got something completely different, which Jesse referred to as a miscommunication, yet Ive never seen a fade look like this. Ive never had my hair butchered this bad before and its quite embarrassing if you work in a professional setting like I do. I was polite and tipped Jesse what I usually tip any barber. Hindsight is 20/20 and while I should have been more clear on what I wanted, I will likely be going somewhere else next time.Edit: Added two stars due to managements customer service and reaching out, though anyone can do a quick Google image search for a high fade and compare the quality for themselves.

Went in for my first real cut in over a year. I used to live right down the street and first started going about three years ago. I have never really cared about which barber was available when I scheduled in the past, and have always had a great experience. This past time, I had Matt, who did an incredible job and was extremely thorough and skilled, which I greatly appreciated. For sure going to be scheduling cuts here until I decide to let the flow go again.

First time at this barber shop. Booked an appointment with Jaylen Brooks. Fade was thicker on one side than the other. He was on the phone for more than half of the haircut. There was a cockroach crawling on the opposite counter and hair all over Jaylen’s station. Definitely won’t be using Jaylen again. Will give the slaughter location a go next time or another barber at this spot.It would be nice to have ownership reach out so I can get this fixed.Knocked it down to a 1 star since ownership never responded.

Great place to get your haircut!! Very clean, friendly, and experienced barbers!! Great atmosphere I live in Leander TX and drive here every Friday to get my haircut, NO better place!!

Old school barbershop with skilled barbers. I drive from Round Rock to get my hair and beard cut here. They take their time and and always do good work.

First time coming here. Showed up on time for my haircut appt at 3pm. Started 15 minutes late and was rushed through because the barber, Jaylen, had another appointment after me. Since he was behind on his appointments for the day I received a half done haircut. He didn’t even clean up my neck line. Super disappointed. I will not be returning.

The set up is amazing. Super clean. Great atmosphere. Every barber is on top of their game. Highly recommend

My haircut was okay, but a day later I developed a bad rash on my neck. My dermatologist said I could only get that kind of fungal infection from dirty clippers and unsanitized barber tools. I can’t recommend to go anywhere else but here. They do not care after I called and asked them to change their practices.

Im lucky I stumbled onto this place right in my neighborhood. Alan is very talented and super chill. The environment is safe and friendly, theyre nice people. Definitely recommend!

I tried 4 or 5 places around Austin before finding this shop and I will not go anywhere else. Alan is who I work with and he always takes time to do a full consultation to make sure we are on the same page and is always on point after that. Great shop all around

Very disgusting. roaches everywhere as well as rats. they mess up my hair and my siblings hair. they literally cough on you and sneeze ! very dirty and grimy. The machines had bugs flying off them

Zeus!I’ve always had great anxiety about haircuts. But I’ve never felt more comfortable about a haircut than I have with Zeus. I show him a pic of what I want and he does it. No questions, no discussion. Just does it right. I plan my vacations around my haircut to see Zeus.

I would say that Jay Brooks’s haircut and beard cleanup was in the top three best haircuts in my life. I highly recommend to all of my friends.

This shop was legit. First time in, I got set up with Dom. His attention to detail was through the roof. Got an awesome fade, and my boy cleaned up the beard. Definitely found my spot.

Best barbershop Ive been to in a while..... the barbers are actually cutting hair and not stopping to talk and check their phones every 5 minutes...... comfortable environment!!..... AND GREAT CUTS!!

Shabby work from Matt. I had grown really long hair and wanted to have a fairly good length of hair after the cut. And he is supposed to trim the sides. He instead gave me a army cut. Such a apathetic attitude. Will never visit this place again. Coming to Covid safety protocols. Matt himself doesnt wears the masks and how can we expect from others. He asked me to remove the mask, had to remove else he might mess the already spoiled haircut.

Just moved to Austin a few months ago and was nervous to find a a new barber. After one visit here I knew I wouldnt be taking my business else where. Atmosphere is great and Jaylen is my new guy. Always gives me a great cut.

Small little shop but good service. Guys have been cutting hair for long time. Best to go online and book an appointment bit they do take walk-ins. Prices are good too. They even do beard and shave services. One of the few doing these during covid.

Great experience! All the guys are always professional and courteous providing a comfortable atmosphere. I’m always acknowledged as soon ad I arrive and thanked when I leave which is a nice touch. The music mix is always great and all over the map which I enjoy.Troy consistently provides the best haircuts I’ve ever had in my life. I work with a bunch of other guys who aren’t the most observant, but when I started going to South Austin Barber Shop and seeing Troy, multiple people commented on how much better my haircuts looked. This was my second time visiting this chain. The first was at Slaughter. Both were great. Good atmosphere, great hair cut and exactly like what I requested.Im planning on coming back again!

I was a few minutes late and got a little scolding, which is cool and I can appreciate that. Means they like to keep a tight schedule and are concerned about their customers wait time. Sal did a great job late on a Friday afternoon when everyone is trying to get off work.

Not paid, biased and I rarely do provide reviews ....This was My best haircut/beard trim experience ever...Done by Ricky... Was the first time so choose randomly... But can vow for all the folks who work there based on seeing them while I was there 2 hours- all of them are really great....Matt Zeus and some names I heard were doing a great job....Ricky was spot on .. you just show them a picture and they grasp that in their mind and delivered exactly what I wanted in best possible way..All of these these guys are doing the job with passion and not just for money...!!!

I took my son to have his hair cut by Felipe. My son had very long, thick, curly hair and wanted a much shorter style. It took much longer than the time which was alotted for us. He had 2 other appointments show up and he politely explained that he was running behind. I figured he would hurry and get my son out of his chair so he could make up on time. Surprisingly he did not start rushing. Felipe was amazing, he continued to take his time with my sons hair and gave him a quality cut. Beetle gave me a great haircut. I love the environment here. Just relaxing in the chair and hearing the conversation makes you feel like you’re one of the boys. From what I saw everyone here knows what they are doing. I highly recommend checking this place out!

All of the barbers give excellent haircuts and are super friendly. I’ve been going to Matt for a couple months now and I always walk out feeling fresh. A bit pricey but worth it. Highly recommend this place. It’s best to schedule an appointment in advance as it’s busy everyday.

I came here after finding out ‘Beetle’ was here. Received the same GREAT service from him. Personally, he’s a talented barber. I’m always please with the outcome of my cut from him. I’m sure the other guys are very talented as well. The atmosphere is wonderful and you just get a good vibe throughout your cut. The booths are well maintained and cleaned after each customer from what I saw.

I have seen Ricky on youtube and always wanted to go by and see and feel the experience... I brought my 15yo son to see Matt. This was on a recommendation from his older brother Armand, who goes to Matt to get his hair trimmed. Matt did a great job and Patrick was very happy with his new cut. I would recommend this place for anyone looking for a professional barbershop with a fun atmosphere and great prices.

Been to a couple of barber shops in Austin this is the only one I really liked. Their whole crew is good at what they do. I usually go to Troy he’s at the one off of Stassney st. But I think you can’t go wrong with anyone that you go with. Hope this helps in choosing a spot to get your hair cut at.

It was my first time having Ricky cut my hair. It’s one of the best haircuts I’ve had in a very long time. Ricky really takes a lot of pride in what he does and it shows in his haircuts. Really nice dude too. Think I found my new barber for life.

Solidified my recommendation to any and all of my guy friends to ditch whoever their stylist was be it cost cutters or Supercuts and go to a #barbershop. I now have a personal Barber in Cedar Park but whenever Im too lazy to drive- #southaustinbarbershop is my go to! You will not be disappointed!

The other barbers always keep everyone looking sharp. Be sure to try and get your appointments in early on their website because they fill up pretty quickly!

Great place for a good mens/kids cut. Long wait if you dont schedule ahead, and dont go in your in a rush. They take their time when cutting your hair, and it has never disappointed the men in our family. They even sing and dance sometimes!

Been a client of Dorian for a few years now & have had Beetle cut my hair when in a pinch. I can’t say enough how good ALL the barbers are here. Real barbershop experience, extremely high quality cuts & trims & a really fun atmosphere. I’ve been to a bunch of different spots in the past - from the chains like Sportclips to “pinky up” boutiques. Forget all them - if you are a dude in Austin, this should be your spot to get hooked up. If you’re looking to do a walk in, you’re probably going to have to wait - sorry but it’s the name of the game. They have a great online appointment set up, it’s the only way to go. Everyone else in the biz should copy what these guys are doing. Straight up, no joke.

Old School Barbershop, if you blink you will miss it. Know a lot of people that live in this area and a few have never even heard of it.Good atmoshphere, prices are great and the service is fantastic.Quality of work is on point.Never going back to the old place and will be coming here from now on.

Great shop! Beatle’s always got times that work for me and he’s been great about working with me when times don’t work out. Walk-ins can be a bit tough but if you’ve got time, they do their best to get you in. Highly recommended!

So I grew my hair out for 7+ months. I was experimenting and I was ready for a cut so I came to south auston barber shop with none other than Felipe (🐐)There really isn’t much to say here. I’m from the east coast, and we take haircuts pretty serious on that side. This is the best barber shop in Austin. I was in the chair for an hour. Meticulous fades and really any cut you want.Stop going to these other barbers and get right.

Dorian is amazing with my sons and has never disappointed me with their haircuts! Been getting cuts by him for 4yrs now and he nails it every time! His cuts are always crispy and clean and my sons NEVER complained and neither have I (a very picky mom). You won’t go wrong with his services he,gives you exactly what you need! Was going to get my haircut here while I was here in Austin but none of the employees inside wear masks which is mandatory at the moment. Extremely unprofessional and flat out dumb. Glad to take my business elsewhere. Steer clear of this covid barber shed.
