They refused to pay for the damages to my car even though the other person was 100% at fault if I could give zero starts I would so unless you want to be RIPPED off I wouldn’t insure anything with this god awful company
I have been a Farm Bureau member for 30+ years, having an auto insurance policy with them and for a short while, health insurance. I had never filed a claim with them until last year. As of 11/19/2014, I am terminating all policies with them, and will not renew my Farm Bureau membership.Having health insurance through Farm Bureau was a near disaster. I quit their health policy after about 2 years or so because of one screw up or another by their plan administrator, Gilsbar. The real problem with their service started in 2013. While sitting at at stop light, I was side swiped by a lawn care truck. There was only minor damage, but it took weeks for an appraisor in Travis County to contact me. I had to go to my agent to get action on my filing. The final straw was this past September, 2014. I had some varmint, either a rat or a squirrel, eat through some wiring that was a part of my airbag system in my Toyota FJ Cruiser. I took my vehicle to a local dealer in the Austin area that told me it would cost $1900 to fix, but that my insurance would cover it. The service rep said that an entire warning harness to the SRS system had to be replaced. I filed a claim and an appraiser from Travis County contacted me. I put her directly in touch with the Dealership. After some weeks went by and not hearing anything, I contacted the appraiser who told me a check for $3500 had been mailed to me. I told her that did not make sense, that I was told the repair would only be $1900. She indicated that the $1900 was for the part only and with the labor to replace the wiring harness, the total was around $4500. I had a $1000 deductible. The Farm Bureau appraisor did not inspect my car, nor did she offer to inspect my car.I thought something did not sound right, so for the first time, I went and thoroughly inspected the wires that had been damaged. I was shocked to see that there was NO damage to the wiring harness the dealer said needed replacing. The only damage was to 2 low voltage wires leading to the front bumper from what I will call an “SRS Control Box”. A simple repair involving correctly reconnecting the wires would have appeared to solve the problem.I informed the Farm Bureau appraisor that the wiring harness was NOT damaged and that it appeared only a simple reconnect of 2 low voltage wires was in order. As it turned out, a $3500 check had not been mailed to me, which would have been returned by me if it had. I talked to the appraisers supervisor in Waco, because by now, it was apparent someone was not doing their job. I should not be the one to have to inspect my vehicle and call “foul” on the dealership for trying to rip me off. The superivisor in Waco admitted that my vehicle should have been inspected. I asked if she could help me find someone to properly repair the wires and she said she would make some calls and get back to me. I never heard from her again. Finally tired of the poor Farm Bureau service, I decided to look for a new auto insurance policy. In that process, I found out that an industry database that all insurance companies use to investigate applicants for auto policies had a listing that I had received $3500 for a claim I filed...which was clearly wrong. I complained again to the Travis County Farm Bureau appraiser who said that nothing could be done to correct the entry. She again referred me to her supervisor, who in turn referred me to my Farm Bureau agent, who has not responded, as of this date, to my request to fix the problem. More poor service from Farm Bureau.Just as an aside, Geico gave me a quote on an identical auto insurace policy, the same coverage I had with Farm Bureau, that was $200 a year cheaper than Farm Bureau. So long, Farm Bureau, forever!
I have been a member of Texas Farm Bureau Insurance for the past 18 years, carrying auto, home and life insurance with them. Up until the last year, we had really good customer service as well as claim service. Our problems started when my son got close to driving age. Farm Bureau took it upon themselves to raise our auto insurance premiums by adding our 15 year old son to our policy without our consent or even notifying us of their actions. My son had not even started his driver education course yet, therefore was not even driving. I tried numerous times to reach someone about the situation and they continued to put me into a voice mail and the premiums continued in the meantime. I got tired of leaving messages that were never returned, so I put my husband to work at calling them. This situation went on over a two month period, so we continued to pay our regular premiums less the additional the charges they added for our son. My husband was finally able to talk to a live person and he was told that we would have to pay the outstanding balance due on our son in order to keep our entire policy from cancelling. When my husband let him know that we would switch to another insurance company before paying for something we did not authorize nor need at the time, he finally offered another option that he would need to ask about. He said if we were going to get other insurance quotes, he wasnt even going to ask about it though, so of course my husband agreed not to get any other quotes. A few more days went by and he called back and said we could sign an exclusion form stating that our son was not driving and it would take a little bit, but then a credit would be issued. Sure enough, we eventually got a credit. With all of the poor customer service we received during this time, I continued to tell my husband that we should really look for another insurance company, because if the customer service is this bad, what are the claims going to be like if we have an accident. We continued to stay with them. Just in August, I made a simple mistake and accidentally paid our gas company the premium for our insurance because they were right next to each other on the online bill pay. I soon received a statement in the mail from Farm Bureau stating that our insurance had lapsed and we did not have car insurance effective as of August 18th. I immediately got online and checked out our banking payments and realized the mistake I had made. I had my husband call Farm Bureau the next day to find out what we needed to do to ensure our coverage was reissued. They lady he spoke with said she thought he could just make the payment and the policy would re-start. She said she would have someone call us though. We made the payment the same day he spoke with her. As usual, no one ever called us, so we assumed the policy was reissued. Today in the mail, I received a letter from Farm Bureau dated September 6th that they had received our payment and applied it to our policy but it was not enough to reissue our policy. They even sent us a small refund check back. So, for half a month, we have been driving around without insurance not even knowing it! We are so thankful that we did not have an accident as we had no idea we were uninsured all this time. They sure did take our money though, and gave us terrible customer service! Shame on you Texas Farm Bureau for treating such a longtime, good faithful policy holder of 18 years, like crap! Im sorry Ive sent so many clients your way over the years. I will make sure to enlighten the people I have sent your way as well as share the news of the poor customer service with people I encounter. I would be scared to know what the claim service is like these days!
