Very spacious set up with new equipment. It can get crowded but if you give it some time, you will be able to complete your workout plan. The location is always clean and the staff is alright. If you have access, I recommend visiting this location for a workout. There are a few vending machines and a micromart (an express mini self checkout). There is also a big gym for other needs like basketball and a crossfire room.
I respect and admire the U.S. Marine Corps. Pandemic or not, the Smith Gym is a great place to work out and play basketball at. God bless and may the Corps be with you.
Where MARINES workout. The best gym I have ever been to. Has all equipment you would be looking for. There is a cardio room, weight room, machine weight room, HITT workout area (Active Duty ONLY), basketball court, and martial arts training room. For the bad reviews about the HITT only being available to active duty.... The rest of the gym is amazing, go do HITT elsewhere. There are saunas available in the locker rooms. The staff is usually friendly. Fairly clean, with the exception of some of the lockers. But apart from that, the cleaners are constantly sweeping and wiping down areas. Great atmosphere. I work in DC, drive the extra few miles to workout here before work.
Good gym but has a strict no hats rule. Such a weird policy.
Love this gym, and LOVE that there is a place for active duty only. Im so tired of the benefit-slobs thinking they still rate. Take your pension and go somewhere else; no one owes you anything.
Pretty good mix of equipment, hours are terrible though.
I love this gym! Never too busy. Always clean and the bathroom is always clean as well. The staff are so sweet and always helpful.
Good clean gym
The Smith gym at Henderson Hall is an excellent facility with respect to the workout equipment provided. It has one of the best weight rooms in all of the military gyms in the area. The only real downside to the gym is that the air conditioning / air handling system appears to be undersized for the facility, particularly in the locker room areas. Is also not balanced well so some rooms are comfortable While others are too warm. The addition of auxiliary air conditioning to the treadmill / stationary bike room has been of help for that particular space.
One of the best gyms I have been in at any Marine corps base. Very clean and it has everything for the conventional athlete.
Nice place. Quiet. Lots of equipment. Not too crowded
I love the gym. The staff is quite friendly. But I am at a lost of why their High Intensity Training room is only open to Actice Duty Members. In other MWR facilities this isnt the case. I would like to know where the regs says that this benefit is only for Active Duty personnel but excluding their families or retired personnel who qualified to use any MWR facilities.
This gym is Valhalla! Great equipment and infrastructure, and the gym-goers are devoted to fitness
Nice gym. Try not to inconvenience the staff with anything that takes their attention from web surfing, though. Yeesh, what poor attitudes.
Simply the best gym in Arlington. Gym goers are professional and courteous. Plenty of space and high quality equipment. Too bad you cant get in unless you have base access know someone who does.
Limited equipment but its not packed and staff is friendly.
All they needed was a hot tub and an indoor swimming pool open all year and to kids until about 6.....idk just a suggestion from a lonley ol consumer
Great equipment. They should open the door from the HITT room to the main gym area.
Great equipment, facility and staff. They recently replaced aerobic equipment. Hours are not very supportive of the Marines Corps committment to a culture of fitness, however. Also, came back from deployment and they had taken down the wall-mounted chin-up bar.
Great gym, run by the Marine Corps. Must have military ID to enter. Free weights, machines, functional fitness, etc.
The best
Need to get towel service and return to better hours especially closing time
Weird the HITT room is only open to AD members “per policy” yet retirees and dependents aren’t allowed in this particular room, but can use other parts of the facility?
This is one of the better military gyms Ive ever been to in my 19 year career. The staff there is always nice and respectful, and helpful to people who seemingly have never been in a gym before. It easily defeats the Ft Myer gym in the weight lifting department. There is at least two pairs of every dumbbell, the barbell racks are plentiful, and the weight room is bright, clean, and most people have the concept of replacing their weights. The cardio room and the mens locker room are my two complaints. The cardio room is dark, windowless, gray, and kind of cramped. In the winter its even works, because it seems all the heat in the building tends to accumulate there, even with the huge fans blowing at full speed. The mens locker room doesnt have good air flow, and can be quite stuffy in the summertime.
Great staff very willing to help.
Top notch gym
Get your workout on! Only for active duty military and dependents.
