After almost a year of physical therapy, I was ready to get back in the game. During my rehabilitation, I lost a lot of muscle and was in poor shape. My physical therapist and I knew that I needed expert help to meet my goals without injuring myself. She recommended Foundation Fitness because she knew that they had the expertise to help me meet my fitness goals. I started working with CJ a little over a month ago and I have already made significant gains. CJ is the epitome of professionalism and brilliant at his craft. He knows how to push and motivate simultaneously! I’m very happy with my experiences at Foundation Fitness.

Review up front: 5 stars, 100% go in and visit. I had not seriously worked out in a number of years. Foundations personal training will work with any level of individual - from those starting out doing a single sit-up to get out of bed each day, to those whove hit a serious training plateau and need a new approach.CJ runs the place great - extremely welcoming, outgoing, and builds community. I train with Esther - absolutely amazing trainer, explains and demonstrates safe and proper technique, customizes your whole routine based on you, and not a second wasted during each session! Foundation Fitness is about family, fun, and of course- getting fit. You’ll get completely personalized training whether you’re a teen athlete or an adult recovering from a back surgery (like me!), the space is always immaculate, the trainers are friendly and serious about their work, and I love the delightful surprises like essential oil-infused towels for your post workout cool down.I’ve worked with other trainers in the past and this is the one I’m sticking with. CJ is creative and knowledgeable so you’ll never get bored, and he’s so experienced that you feel confident in even the most challenging of cases. He helps you find new internal strength you didn’t know you had. He’s also committed to his community, which is a bonus if you care about who you’re investing in for your health and wellness.You’ll *want* to go to the gym when you train at Foundation Fitness.

I started training at Foundation Fitness after struggling to drop the weight gained during the pandemic. After CJ and Patrick helped assess my goals/targets and base fitness level, I was placed with Camas Stredder who has been a truly great trainer and motivator. Camas has taken any recent medical conditions and physical injuries into account as she has developed a training program for me. We communicate via text message when changes to scheduling are needed. I am halfway through my contracted commitment with Foundation Fitness and seeing results: reduction in body fat percentage, increased lean muscle mass, and reduced BMI. Foundation fitness also offered some instruction in nutrition and caloric intake, alongside my training regimen. Highly recommend both Foundation Fitness and Camas Stredder.

Camas at foundation fitness is amazing! I came in with certain goals I needed to achieve and she has come up with programs tailored to me to help me reach those goals. The staff is knowledgeable and encouraging. The gym itself is very clean and welcoming; they sanitize equipment frequently, trainers wear masks, the total number of people in the building at one time is usually no more than 5. All of which has given me peace of mind to continue training during the pandemic. Most importantly, I am improving my fitness level and strength each week. I truly look forward to being challenged during my sessions with CJ.

Joining this gym was one of the best decisions I’ve made. I feel totally comfortable here, which is something I never thought I’d say about a gym! I’ve made tons of progress with my trainer, CJ, and he has taken the time to get to know me, my abilities, and how to motivate me. Ive been training with CJ and the team at Foundation Fitness for a little over 4 months now. I appreciate the gyms comprehensive approach to improvement in fitness to impact and better other areas as well. The gym requires a warm-up, which I think allows you to enter the right mental space and prep your body for a workout. The workouts are varied in equipment, muscle groups, and intensity in order to achieve desired results.The gym really cares about CV-19 protocol. Members proactively wear masks, the trainers sanitize equipment frequently, trainers also wear masks, and social distancing is observed throughout while ensuring safety with the weights.The gym itself is very clean and welcoming. I appreciate the people that I work around are neighbors in the Del Ray area and they are constantly passing great information for the area and different events being planned. This past Christmas, the gym led a wishing tree drive and was able to donate an unbelievable amount of items to the boys and girls of the local area. The gym partners with other businesses in the area as well to contribute to food drive at Thanksgiving and other charity events. The gym and community of members give back in very large ways. Very meaningful to be a part of.I think what excites me most about this gym is when Covid relaxes and we are able to do larger group sessions and more activities. Im really proud to be a part of Foundation Fitness and look forward to continuing to strive towards my fitness goals.

Ive been training here since January 2021 and its an awesome place to be. C.J. is an excellent trainer and all the staff are so welcoming and nice. You get custom training to your specific needs, gently pushed and encouraged to go a little further. Its a very safe place to train with strict Covid protocols to keep everyone safe and healthy. I really was so anxious about starting a training program but C.J. put me at ease instantly. The studio is small but not too small so I dont feel like Im in a big box gym or being ignored. I finally am comfortable exercising again! Thanks so much ... highly recommended.

This has been one of the most positive weigh training experiences Ive ever had.Everyone at Foundation Fitness has been incredibly kind, supportive, knowledgeable and remarkably accepting of everyone at all fitness levels. They follow all COVID protocols to the letter, and keep all of the equipment clean and sanitized.The vibe in the gym is super chill and very friendly. In past gym experiences, there was always a palpable upsell culture that felt predatory and disingenuous. No one at Foundation Fitness fits into that category. They are experts who train and advise.Ive been working with Camas for nearly 2 months and she has been the force multiplier in my development. She approaches fitness from a very knowledgeable point of view and when I train with her, it feels more like a partnership where we can collectively figure out how much weight I can handle and how reasonable my goals are. It was my first time visiting this location about two weeks ago on a Sunday morning. Parking was super easy as there was tons of street parking. The space has high ceilings which makes it feel big and airy and and tons of mirrors so you can see your movements. The equipment is great and spaced out nicely into stations. I like that its more of a private studio so you dont have to worry about gym intimidation or being around a bunch of randoms.Also ask for Ester! She is so positive and energetic which makes working out much easier. She is the personal cheerleader I need to keep me going when my brain tries to tell me I cant! She watches each exercise and makes adjustments when needed to make sure that Im not slacking on any reps in order to get the maximum benefit (when Im working out, i want to make sure im doing it right so i can enjoy some extra fries later! :) ).

I was hesitant to get into personal training after a significant period of inactivity and doubt about my abilities to even make it through a session. CJ, the owner, was really awesome in helping me identify my goals and designing a plan for me that was exactly what I needed to get back into the routine of honoring my health. 4 months later, I actually look forward to going in the morning and I appreciate that exercises are different each time. I feel stronger and healthier. CJ has also gone out of his way to custom design a workout program for me to help me train for a Rim 2 Rim hike in the Grand Canyon. Moreover, you can tell that CJ and his staff care about fitness being a holistic experience- from gym design to staff morale and customer experience. Like I said, its actually fun to go there :)

Foundation Fitness is exactly the type of facility necessary during a time when everyone is being ultra cautious due to COVID-19. All training sessions are appointment only, social distancing is taken seriously, and everything is constantly sanitized.The space is equipped with everything you need for a complete workout. I train with Ester, who takes all safety precautions, and writes detailed workouts for me in advance to keep us on schedule.Location is great, and the owners are also super friendly!

I started working with CJ and Foundation Fitness in January 2021. We hit the ground running and I never looked back. CJ tailors my workouts weekly to ensure he’s addressing my concerns and helping me achieve my fitness goals. I was relatively fit before joining but can honestly say that I have never felt stronger or more healthy in my adult life. CJ has been instrumental in pushing me beyond my own limits and helping me realize my fitness potential. It’s also nice watching my body transform and tone from week to week. Might I add that they are very reasonably priced. I did a lot of research before selecting this gym and am more than happy with my decision.The gym is also very clean and everyone adheres to COVID 19 protocols. I feel completely safe during my training sessions.

At the suggestion of my physical therapist, Dana from Core Wellness in Alexandria (Del Ray) I consulted with CJ Wesby owner of Foundation Fitness Alexandria, VA. During my initial interview and work outs CJ quickly recognized my injuries, strength, weakness and most importantly where and how I could begin to repair my body after a unique injury in 2014. I am delighted to say that after four months, thanks to CJ, I am making great progress. While I understand its my dedication and CJs patience and commitment to training that I continue to succeed. During the first few appointments I found myself saying, I cant do something, so instead of saying yes you can, we discussed why I felt this way. In my case, I was afraid of a re injury. In CJs case he reassured me that I could do something as we would start to build slowly and he understood my fears and helped me work through them. Additionally, the time he devotes talking with Core Wellness physical therapists, Dana in my particular case, they continually develop a program that has helped me loose 35 pounds AND regain confidence mentally and physically.

I came to Foundation Fitness in January 2019. I am in my early 40s and have never found a way to integrate regular exercise into my busy work and family life, until now. I can now say that Ive stuck with this for almost a year. My longest exercise streak ever! I work with Amie Rowland as my personal trainer and found a schedule that I can actually stick to! Amies personality is a great fit to mine. Plus, having a set time to meet her twice a week, that Im paying for, Im going to keep that appointment. She holds me accountable to the goals weve set, and flexes with me when work or family life cause me to need to reschedule a bit to fit exercise in a time other than my normal schedule.I didnt come to Foundation Fitness looking to have a body-builders physique. I came here to get toned and healthy. Now, I can keep up with my 7 year old a little better, plus my very active husband. And... I can now help move a picnic table around when needed! My time at Foundation Fitness has been one of the best investments Ive ever made in myself.

After a couple years of health issues that took a toll on my fitness level, I decided to get some professional help. A quick search led me to Foundation Fitness, and I’m so grateful it did. I’ve been working with CJ for about two months now and it’s been awesome. In addition to being a great trainer, he’s extremely knowledgeable. I’ve had very specific surgeries that he *always* takes into account. It’s been super challenging but incredibly rewarding, and I always look forward to the next session. I love this gym. Ive been working out with Wayne for a couple years now. I really like lifting weights, Olympic style lifting but I didnt have the form down and ended up with injuries. Working out with Wayne has been the best thing. Im getting stronger but with out constantly injuring myself. The trainers at this gym are certified and very knowledgeable. Hes a great trainer. I really look forward to the workouts.

I absolutely enjoy this place. Mikayla has been an AMAZING trainer! She pushes me just enough to maximize my potential, she understands how to work with me regarding my knee and hip injuries, and she incorporates the limitations imposed by my physical therapist and pain management doctor. I have noticed an increase in my flexibility, strength, and stamina, all things I addressed on my initial intake with CJ.For reference, I have worked with both Mikayla and CJ and they are true professionals, working to achieve my goals and so far the results are evident...not only with what I mentioned above, but also with muscle definition.I concur with other reviewers regarding the consideration and mitigation measures put in place due to COVID-19 concerns. For both of us, going to Foundation is a commitment weve made to ourselves to exercise hard once per week and to take a break from the hustle. I have been coming to Foundation Fitness for seven months. I came to the experience as someone older who had never in her life worked out in any way on a regular basis, and on the rare occasions I would try, I hated every minute of it. Now, nothing could be further from the truth. Ryan started where I was, and has supported me, and pushed me, consistently and persistently. My goal has never been to be an athlete. I just wanted to be fitter, stronger, more toned, with better balance and flexibility so I could more fully live the life I want to live. I still have work to do, but I am where I am because of Ryan and Foundation Fitness. I cannot recommend him and the studio highly enough.

I’ve been training with CJ for a year now and the results have been incredible. He teaches me how to work out with appropriate form, never lets me cut corners, and gives me what I need to take my fitness program to any hotel gym when I’m traveling. Ive been working out with Amie at Foundation Fitness for three years now, and cant imagine what Id do without her. Having an appointment twice a week keeps me from slacking off. Amies friendly and easy-going but keeps me working the whole time, and has made modifications to my workouts to take into account some physical therapy Ive had to do lately. Shes able to adjust her plan on the fly if I come in having tweaked my back picking up the dog or developed a wrist issue at the computer, or if Im feeling really good on a particular day. The overall atmosphere there is also great - all the trainers and clients that I usually see are encouraging and supportive (though our tastes in music are not always aligned!).

I have been coming to Foundation Fitness in Del Ray for a year now and I highly recommend them. Ive worked with many of the trainers (mostly CJ) and all of them are focused and drive me to achieve my goals with a welcome variety of different activities for a total workout. They keep the atmosphere lively and light, helping to keep me motivated...even on those days when motivation fails. They worked with me when schedules change (traffic in DC!) and even helped me identify some exercises to do on vacation. And when I had a medical issue pop up they had the knowledge to work within any restrictions and identify some exercise to safetly keep going.I had never worked with a trainer before, but Foundation Fitness of Del Ray has now become a welcome part of my daily life. Foundation Fitness has been a part of my life for more than 10 years and I cant say enough good things about the facility and trainers. I have trained with my trainer Wayne Gooden for the better part of 15 years, which should tell you something about what kind of trainer he is. He is consistent, patient and most importantly considerate. He makes sure your form is correct on all exercises, he pushes you to limits that even you didnt know you had. In addition to personal training, he also does a boot camp. I couldnt be more happier with the the trainers at Foundation Fitness; they all offer unique personal training to the clients. Its a place where all the clients feel like family!

Ive been working out at Foundation Fitness Alexandria regularly for five months now. I work out with CJ and have recorded very measurable results. Training with Amie the past 7 months has been essential for me! She’s awesome, she is both motivating and laid back, which I prefer. Our teenage son has been working with Mikayla following knee surgery and she is fantastic. She has been highly instructional and motivational when it comes to workouts and nutrition. Ive been going to Foundation Fitness in DelRay for years now, and its honestly the best group of trainers Ive ever worked with -- and that includes both here in the DC area and in Chicago. The entire team is super nice, and my specific trainer Wayne spends a lot of time understanding my goals and making sure the workouts reflect that, week by week. Hes very supportive and always monitors the way I respond to new exercises and weight-training routines to ensure I dont injure myself and that Im maximizing the time we work together. Ive been working out at Foundation Fitness for the last three months and it has been an outstanding experience! When I met with CJ initially we talked in-depth about my goals and the areas/types of things I wanted to work on. He has customized my workouts to include agility, balance and coordination on top of strength training. And as a bonus there is always plenty of laughter.

I started to work with CJ at Foundation Fitness after being cleared for exercise following surgery and have been training there for 9 months so far. CJ is very knowledgable and I can rest easy knowing Im going as far as I can without doing too much. Ive gained a ton of strength and feel so much better! The gym is clean, pleasant, and because both the trainers and the clients are all fun people, its even fun to go. Im very happy I made the decision to train there, and I highly recommend it.

Foundation Fitness has had such a positive impact on me. My sessions are definitely something I look forward to in my daily routine. I think some people forget that having a trainer isnt enough. You too must work hard toward your goal. CJ has been a great motivator and teacher. Ive seen results in areas I never had before since working out together. My sessions are always exciting and different!

I’ve been working with CJ for the past few months after a lot of trial and error with other gyms or classes in the area, and it feels so great to finally find a real fit! Even in just these few months I’ve seen substantial improvement in my flexibility and strength. No matter what my energy level is coming into a session, CJ is great at motivating and challenging me every time!

I have been going to Foundation Fitness for several years now with CJ Wesby as my trainer. Over those years they have helped me lose 70+ lbs. And helped me train for several long distance hikes (100+miles). They are very cognizant about doing the right things in the right way so my fitness improved without injury. I much prefer having the one on one focused training sessions and highly recommend CJ and the Foundation Fitness team!

For more than 5 years now I have been showing up at Foundation Fitness in the wee hours of the morning 3 days a week to work out with Trainer CJ Wesby. CJ has worked patiently and persistently with me to reach the fitness goals I set for myself. What I value most about working with CJ is his extensive knowledge of the mechanics of exercise and how the human body responds in any series of movements. Keeping the right “form” is important to me and CJ keeps me on track. What I value most about Foundation Fitness in Alexandria are the friendships I’ve made with all of the trainers and many of the clients. After most sessions, I leave sweaty and smiling and that’s a great way to start my day.

Edit for Nov. 2020: I’ve been working with CJ for the last few months during the pandemic and I’ve been really impressed with how seriously the folks at Foundation are handling the COVID situation. Everyone wears masks and they have enough space to spread out and make sure everyone is far enough apart. Everything is cleaned and sanitized after each use and they’ll even give you a mask if you forget yours. It’s the only place I feel comfortable working out during the pandemic.Original Review: These guys are the best. Knowledgeable, prompt, caring, and not afraid to make you work for the results you want. Their flexibility is unparalleled too! Ryan is the man! He made a plan that will help me meet my goals and I love to work with him! Don’t hesitate to sign up with these guys.

CJ has been training me for almost three years now. He pushed me to my best body ever for my wedding and then a year later has supported me mind, body and spirit through cancer and now remission. Love this place! Started working out here after I had my second child, and CJ did a fantastic job designing workouts that were appropriate for my post-partum fitness level but got real results in a few months. And everyone there - clients and trainers - is so nice!

Ive been giving a check to Foundation Fitness since they arrived in Del Ray. Having worn out two trainers, I finally settled in with Wayne for two truly enjoyable workouts a week.In addition to Wayne, getting to know the other trainers and clients makes one feel like part of a family.Cant recommend the place, and the people, enough. I have been training with CJ for more than 2 years. Hes helped me find activities I truly enjoy and learn how to use equipment that was previously intimidating. In addition, Ive lost 50 lbs., through a combination of diet and exercise. Its a great, supportive, personalized environment for everyone from beginners to experienced gym-goers.CJ also helped me continue to go to the gym even while I sprained my ankle this year. We focused on recovery and improved range of motion while working other body parts as well.

Signing up for training at Foundation Fitness is one of the best decisions I have ever made. I started going because I wanted to incorporate strength training into my cardio routine. I have been training with Ivaylo for about 8 months now, and I notice a huge difference in how I feel and how strong I am. I used to have lower back pain and because of the core strengthening we have done, I dont have it anymore. Ivaylo helps me set goals and then designs programs to reach them. He also is wonderful at explaining why we are doing a certain exercise and the physiology behind it . He teaches the why and how so that I can take the skills and use them on my own as well. He is incredibly motivating and fun to work with!

I love this gym. CJ has helped me get back into shape after my knee surgery. He built a custom workout plan that would help me get back to 100%. If I wasnt able to do an exercise CJ would add a few different moves in and next thing you know I was able to do it in a week or two. If you are looking for a lifestyle change and not just a quick fix this is the place to go.
