8/16 arrived at 2:30 with an 18 year old dog that we feared was near the end of a long well lived life. Told a 2-4 hour wait, okay. At 5 we were told he was next to be seen. An emergency came in, a dog bit by another dog, but then They turned away another emergency, a dog hit by a car but then let everyone else come in??? At 6 I’m told, again he is next to be seen. It’s now 8 and I was just told for the 3rd time he is next to be seen. I sat in the waiting room and watch few people come and go. At Arrival we were told 2 vets were in.Sure seems like a bad idea to admit people’s pets and just create giant waiting times. My 18 year old pup might have just spent the last 5-6 hours of his life in a cold cage, sad and anxious, surrounded by strangers, but I won’t know until they actually see him!! In the mean time they have give me no information AT ALL. The red head at the front desk is indeed rude. (Like mentioned in the other reviews)Do your self a favor make an appointment with your regular vet. You’ll get seen faster. FYI this isn’t our first visit, we have been here many times over the years BUT THIS PLACE HS GONE TO THE BIRDS!!Update*** THEY KEPT MY DOG HERE 7 HOURS JUST TO HAVE TO PUT HIM DOWN???!!!! worst ethics ever. I’ll never forgive or forget how he spent the last hours of his life- overlooked in the isolation even though we explained we thought it might be the end for him right when we got here. ZERO STARS
These guys really don’t get the credit they deserve here. My 5 year old dog was not eating well so I had an appointment set up for my regular vet but with how busy every vet is nowadays, it was going to take a week to visit even with an emergency. So when my dog collapsed on a Saturday, Animal Emergency was the only one that would take him in.The ladies at the desk were super nice both when I initially called and came in and really sympathized with my concern. They did a great job explaining everything, they would get all his vitals and make sure he’s stable while the vet techs and vet observed them for 4-6 hours. At hour five, the vet, Dr Rosenfield, called me directly with a plan of action. He was awesome at explaining everything and was really reassuring. After a few minutes of getting off the phone with me, the front desk lady called me explaining my price options and I agreed to all the tests they thought best to do. After about four more hours, the vet called back with the results and explained it might be better for an X-ray and ultrasound. Again the front desk lady called back with the updated price estimate.Because they were still worried, they suggested he stay overnight so they can continue to watch him before the X-ray and ultrasound. The next morning the overnight vet tech called me to update me and made me feel a bit better. It ended up being around 36 hours before I was able to bring my baby home with medicine and a plan of action. The total bill was actually less than the estimate so I was really happy honestly. If you consider the price of an ER visit for a person (even with insurance) my dogs 36 hour stay with all the testing was pretty reasonably priced. If I had pet insurance, I assume it’d be even cheaper. Everyone involved there was so nice and knowledgeable that I felt so confident everything was going to be ok. I’m so thankful for everyone there for helping my best friend.
After a truly terrible experience elsewhere I am so thankful to have found a place to get care for my cat today. Yes, it took a very long time to get her seen by the doctor but I was able to leave her for the wait at the facility and run errands nearby. When she was finally seen the doctor was wonderful…. Very knowledgeable and easy to talk to. It’s a full day activity but my cat was well taken care of.
The staff is so compassionate & wonderful. Dr. Weisberg, Alison & Victoria were so helpful when we brought in our Jax, 3:30 am, to put him down—free him from pain & suffering. It is a time when you need caring, kind & loving people around you & your dog. That is exactly what they were! Thank you so much for your help. We appreciate everything you did!! And the paw print & sympathy card were an extra special touch. Amazing!
I’ve been having a hard time lately getting my animals seen for sick visits with their regular vet on the same day. My vet recommended this place if I couldn’t wait.I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Kiebler and the staff. She was very knowledgeable and professional. But her compassion during a difficult time left a lasting impression on me. And the price was comparable to my regular vet for a sick visit.
Do not use them!!! They suck!! I brought my dead dog here and was supposed to get a paw print with ashes and when I went to pick up items I only received the ashes. A manager who came to speak to me was very nasty about the situation and was not apologizing or being sympathetic about what had happened. My vet suggested not to use them in the future because they do receive complaints about them. Very disappointedDon’t pretend that you care at this point because you don’t!!! Maybe you should fire your manager who has no personality or compassion for dead pets
My senior dog, Beauty, wouldnt eat at all. She even refused her favorite treats. I figured maybe she just had a tummy ache considering she was eating grass earlier that day. I left the house for about a half hour and came home to my living room covered in bloody diarrhea. You could tell she was in so much pain. I freaked out and called this place because they are open 24 hours. We drove out and I answered some questions. They said they would be out to get her in a little but a few minutes into waiting she started puking and pooping blood everywhere. I called them and they said they had an emergency in progress but still came out to get her. They told us it would be a couple hours, so we went home. They called me a few hours later and told me what they thought it was and the cost. It was very expensive but she said she had 2 other options that were cheaper but she cant guarantee that her diagnosis is correct without the tests. I agreed to the cheapest and they said theyd call me back with a price. They called back about an hour later and gave me the price. It was affordable. The problem was that they wanted payment before they started treatment. I only had cash and I was at home. Luckily I was approved for scratchpay. They were very caring and seemed to work with me. I was just very upset that if I didnt pay at that moment in time, I would have had to drive there to pay and my dog would have been suffering. I do appreciate them being there for her and helping her. She is home with us now and so far acting like her normal self.
I came in with my 10-month-old puppy and they let him die !!! they sent me home with him and said that he wasnt much better than he was when he came in no he wasnt he was worse. They asked me to come back if he got worse he was going 20 minutes after I left my heart is so hurt. I had five daughters whose world revolved around this dog.. and now hes gone now Im stuck at home with the memory of him and trying to hold myself together and my five daughters its sick that they could look me in my face and lie and to send me home with him like that. My daughters didnt deserve that neither did he. Their father got them that dog and they had a really bad accident happened with their dad so that dog was everything to them
7+ Hours for some x rays i was told would be done immediately. Still waiting on the x rays by the way-no idea if there’s an issue. Zero communication. I would give them zero stars if I could
Having to go to an emergency vet is the last thing you want to have to do at the end of a long week and critically hard day. However, the folks here, and specifically Michelle, did a wonderful job helping us with a difficult situation and ultimately having to euthanize. I will tell you that while you are in the throes of a very emotional time with your animal, someone telling you options and prices can feel very blunt and uncaring. The folks here deal with one crisis after another and continue to remain calm and helpful. While I would say their pricing is a little higher than if you had the option to make a vet appointment at your vet, they are upfront about what those fees will be ahead of time, and at least in our case the final bill came in lower than the estimate they gave us. Unfortunately there is extra cost when having to use an emergency vet. Please remember they are looking at your animal for the first time without the convenience and help of a history and records for your pet. We were thankful they were here for us and we definitely recommend them.
Takes hours after they look at your dog to even get a bill so you can pay and leave. When they have enough time to meet with you and tell you theyre too busy to process you, they could just process you so you can leave. 3 hours after they looked at the dog we could leave.Cannot recommend anyone go there.
I dont agree with all the negative reviews here. They have taken very good care of many of our dogs for years and us too. That is a hard job and not fun at all!
My experience with a black lab that had sudden violent seizures at age 11 was good. The wait was very long, but she was looked at quickly upon entering and was acting fine at that point so I believe a few other emergencies went first and I understood that. When evaluated there was no glaring problem found, but they recommended a blood test which did reveal Lyme. Whether that was the cause or not, wasnt absolutely known, but it can be and isnt good. She was treated for Lyme and given phenobarbital for seizures. A year later, shes 12, were off all the medicine, all side affects have subsided. I do not recall the vet I spoke with, but she was very clear explaining to me what she had checked for, what a blood test could help with (without selling the bloodtest, I was glad it was recommended as an option to dig further and find a possible cause which it did), and how she was going to treat my dog immediately. You will pay more for any emergency service, but that day I felt like the results were as good as they could have been or would have been elsewhere.
I took my Dog they did only a physical examination but couldnt find anything wrong and I waited 6 hors and wasted 105 dollars on nothing. Im positive they didnt even check my dog but still male me sign a form that I was refusingthe treatment Im not refusing I just dont have 900 dollar to pay for labs. I took him somewhere else and whit just a physical examination and the cost of 85 dollars they found my dog had an infection. Not worth it is not an emergency they just want to take more money out of you and for no reason they would avoid calling you youll have to be calling to know sadly true wish I had seen these comments.Because you cant even know they are actually dealing with your fur baby. Very disappointed cant believe people would be like this. Worst vet ever unless you have lots of money to waste on them.
I took my kitten here because she decided to get into my hair ties and eat them. When I got to the hospital someone came out to get her within a few minutes. The whole time she was there the doctor was super nice and continuously updated us on how she was doing and how the surgery went. All of the staff was very friendly as well. I definitely recommended them if you are in need of any emergency services. My kitten is happy and healing well!
Brought my kitty Reddy there last night and they were very kind. Gave us time to say good bye. RIP Reddy, I love you
Our 7 year old husky was having a cluster of seizures. Previously, he only had one a month ago with no prior incident. Without really looking further because I was worried for my dog, we took him to the Animal Emergency and Referral Center of York. I wish I had read the reviews before bringing him here, but when your pet is howling in pain, is ridged and can’t control their body movements, getting them help was first on my mind. Little did I know that where I was hoping to receive help, instead we got more frustrated. As I’m writing this now, every bad review written about this place is true. Insensitive, poor communication and money hungry. We wanted to bring our dog to our own vet just to get him out of here, and they held him. Additionally, when they told us that he was sedated and fine, the next call I got was saying that he needed to stay over night. Ridiculous. They mask caring for animals behind wanting to suck more money from you. I’m still waiting and it’s been an hour. If we don’t get our dog back soon, I’m going to continue to post how NOT to bring any animals here
In november my 2 year old Akita got very sick with what we found out to be parvo (very rare case considering she was vaccinated) My personal vet is not 24 hours leaving me to put trust in this business.Meeka was in rough shape when i took her in but with her being the size she is and the age her chances of life were a lot higher, im 19 and these people were aware of this. I was taken advantage of while these people played with my emotions and convinced me in order for my dog to live, they had my dog for about 5 days, said she needed an ultra sound, xrays and charged me the most they could. Each of those 4 vets had a different story each time i spoke to them one vet would convince me she was better then by evening the other vet said she had no improvement at all, getting in contact was terrible, no calls back nothing you would thing if you cant allow owners to see their pets you’d be more attentive. The moment i realized i needed to get my dog the hell out of here was the day before i picked her up. I was bawling on the phone with one of the male vets i finally asked him if it was inhumane to make her suffer anymore and if she should be put down. This guy without a single emotion says “I cant tell you what to do but if you want to yes we can discuss the PRICING for euthanasia” i was shocked this guy in the same sentence started talking money. My whole heart sunk. I picked meeka up the next night after work she was so depressed but when she saw me started running towards me and i got so many kisses. her whole mood changed the vet tech even said “wow she hasnt done that much in days” i then treated her at home by myself with home remedies and in three days mydog was back to her beautiful amazing self. I truly think if i had left meeka in that place i would not be able to wake up to that happy face everyday. Please Beware and don’t utilize this place unless you have no choice and even then be carefulThey do not care about you or your pet and will leave you scared for you pets life alone and never care as long as they pulled that last dollar from your wallet.Thank you Emergency Vet for taking advantage of a emotionally distraught 19 year olds emotions and giving her 6,500 in debt. Meeka ended up ok, when i called to let you guys know the lady at the desk said okay and ? “ you’re all sick
Im not one who usually does reviews, but Im seeing so many negative ones I feel like I needed to share my experience. I would like to put your mind at ease to whoever is reading this. I had a great experience at Animal Emergency and Referral of York. I will say the wait time is kind of long, but like any emergency clinic may it be animal or human it may take sometime before the patient is seen depending on how severe the emergency is. If you live close by I recommend after dropping your pet off. Either head back home or run some errands instead of waiting in the parking lot. When your pet is seen the vet calls you and evaluates the medical problem with your pet. I also appericated that I had options and price quotes for each option before any procedure was done. Once I got off the phone with the vet they took great care of my kitten. They cleaned and stitiched up his front paw from a falling cat tree accident. And once he was done they called so I could bring him home. I feel that all of the staff I dealt with were great! Myself and my kitten Ragnar would like to thank you for the fantastic care we recieved!
The best care my dog has ever received from a vet of any kind. We have had double-knee surgery with our dog Magnus, and shortly after he was cleared he was hit by a truck. The surgery went great for his knees and the entire process was simple. After he was hit by a truck I took him in and within an hour of being there I already had an estimate for what he needed to recover.Obviously the expense that comes with proper care for your pets is not cheap, but in these peoples hands I trust that my pet is receiving the best care and is totally worth every penny.
If you are looking for an emergency vet and can afford to look further than this place, please do.My mastiff had a procedure there and came home with kennel cough. We called about receiving antibiotics for her to get rid of said cough and the vet told us “she could have gotten it from anywhere” and if we want antibiotics we need to pay another “recheck fee” when THEY JUST HAD THE DOG IN THERE.If you do not want to deal with that sleazy money-grab nonsense, I recommend looking elsewhere. Or at least read the rest of the reviews about this place. It is BAD
This place is so HORRIBLE DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY. Brought my puppy in because he was crying excessively I knew something was wrong with him but these people diagnosed my puppy with a rash on it’s bottom. Within 3 to 4 hours my puppy died. I’m beyond upset because they did NOTHING. My puppy could have been saved. They don’t need to be in business I wish I read the reviews before I brought my puppy here. If I could give a 0 I would.
Brought in my cat last night because he had vomited four times in six hours. He was crouching and in pain, retched so hard that he vasovagaled and fell over. I brought him in the middle of the night and he was seen within 35 minutes. All other vets had hours of wait times. The tech was so sweet and welcoming when she came to get him from my car. I was a crying mess. He is a long haired cat so I was scared he had a an intestinal or urinary blockage. Soon, the vet called me on the phone and was so calm and soothing. He asked a few questions to get a deeper understanding of what may have been going on. He was patient and attentive to my responses. He explained he felt no distention upon palpating his abdomen/bladder which was good. He recommended fluids and anti-emetics, to wait on an x-ray to save on costs because he felt he was stable. It was determined that it was likely due to stress of changes in his environment. Most vets jump on every single possible test when you are in a concerned state. He still aired on the side of caution but was also mindful of not doing unnecessary tests. The total cost was not terrifying to look at, and of course it was worth every single penny. Overall, just a positive experience during a scary time. Brought him home and he was back to himself the next morning! Thank you for taking great care of my boy.
I called first and asked to bring my dog in for a uti.. they said sure bring him in then after driving 40 mins they cant see him for 8 hours. I just wasted 40 mins driving here just to drive 40 mins home and still have the same problem.. a dog with a uti. Thanks for nothing but wasting my time.
I have been here a few times now, each of these times I was made to feel like they truly cared to know about what I needed for my pet, and took the time to hear out my concerns. Each staff member I spoke with was professional, friendly, and courteous.
Everyone was so nice, considerate and caring during my time of loss.
1 week ago I had to put my baby down and called many places who wouldnt take her, but Animal Emergency and Referral did. It was the hardest decision of my life and the staff and doctors there were amazing and very empathetic to my situation. I received her ashes today and they exceeded my expectations. I cant thank them enough for making this already hard time in my life easier and special. 10/10 would recommend them to anyone!!
I had to use them 2 times now due to after hr issues they are very high priced, quick to suggest you put your animal down, and the secretary that is on around 6pm i think it was the older red haired women is the rudest person i have ever dealt with.I will be checking alternative places to take my pet.It is jus way too much trauma to deal with for my pet and me as well.So both times my pet was treated and after a few days no better i had to go to my regular vert for more med which cleared him up in a few days.I would rate them a minus 2.
Worst experience ever! We went up this evening, got there at 530pm.... finally got our pup at 1030... freaking rediculous. All for pain meds & X-rays for them to tell us absolutely nothing & that they aren’t educated enough to apparently tell us what’s wrong, $600 later & yet we have to spend even more money to take her elsewhere to figure out what’s wrong. I’ve never been more angry & annoyed. Terrible communication, horrible operator on the phone. We will NEVER return to this place that’s for damn sure.
WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE,THEY WERE ALL VERY UNPROFESSIONAL+MONEY GRUBBING LIL B-TCHES, ESPECIALLY THE DOCTOR!DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE,THEY TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO STEAL MINE! I will further post EVERYDAY,UNTIL I GET MY MONEY BACK ! YOU WILL NOT PUSH ME AROUND,OUTSIDE OF YOUR SO CALLED HOSPITAL! LIKE YOU DID WHILE YOU HAD MY PET TRAPPED!!!!! Very DISGRACEFULL
Their communication is very poor. If you cannot avoid taking your pet here, call often to check on your pet and ask about all possible tests and treatment. In my experience they will avoid calling you if anything happens to your pet while in their care and skip needed tests.I know COVID makes things difficult, but my 4 years old dog who received a 100% clear bill of health at her annual checkup the month before went in with an “irritated intestine” and passed away the same day while in their care. They gave us no indication she was seriously ill. Told us it was an irritated intestine and X-rays were not needed, then when I agreed with that vet’s recommendation they wrote on their forms that I turned down additional tests that were needed to diagnose her. They had no intention of telling us she was dying until it was too late for us to get back in time to see her. Then they took her off treatment without informing us.
My Saint Bernard Gracie had a torn ligament in her knee. She then injured her front paw and refused to get up at all. She’s appx 200lbs. My wife and I took Gracie to this place. They said she had cancer. No, X-ray, No blood work, nothing to determine this was in fact the issue. However with NO testing the Dr. suggested we put our dog down tonight or get in contact with cancer specialist. The Vet would not allow her to even stay the night. Also suggested putting our Gracie down outside on a 30 deg night. I even asked if she could stay the night until our Vet can call this was around 11:30 at night. They pretty much tossed us out. Charges us 105 bucks. The doctor was rude and the staff was too young and immature. No empathy displayed. The Dr. began Laughing on the phone while delivering the news. We picked up our Gracie and took her home. We will contact our Vet. We trust him not these Money Grabbers looking to either put your pet down or charge you an unreasonable amount of money. No way not again.
Avoid this place at all costs. We brought our dog in for an exam because she had thrown up twice in a day and wanted to make sure it was nothing serious since it was odd behavior for her. The “exam” that cost $105 doesn’t include blood work. We also agreed to 1 x-ray on the phone, they decided 3 was the right number and charged us for every one of them without asking us first. Walked away from that night less $430 and no explanation as to why this could be happening other than “she might have a sensitive stomach.” Do yourself, your pet, and your wallet a favor and avoid this cash grab of a clinic.
Went in for emergency with my pet waited 6 hrs without any communication & left without any treatment. They had the nerve to miscommunicate & yell at me after they wouldnt give me my pet back! Commplete assuninine staff!
We had to bring our cat here because it was after hours and she needed medical attention. We had to do curb side service due to covid restrictions. The first woman who came out to get our cat was so kind and sweet. She truly cared about our situation. The doctor called several times to keep us updated on our cat and reassured everything would be okay. The second woman who came out to bring us our cat back was so kind and sweet too. She told my cat Look mom is here and she kept showing her to me. It was such a sweet moment. The price was expected for the service. I truly felt my cat was in wonderful hands at this place.
This facility saved my puppy’s life. I’ll forever be grateful for the staff and physicians at this clinic. We were 2 hours from home on vacation. They were amazing and compassionate. They took amazing care of my girl.
I took my beagle here on Thanksgiving evening. She was having trouble breathing, was reverse sneezing, was shaking, and couldnt seem to swallow correctly.Due to Covid, I called before I drove out. They told me to call once I was in the parking lot and they could help me from there. The receptionist got all of my information and about what my pet needed... Within minutes, the first lady came out to my car and was very kind and listened to everything I told her. She wrote down some notes as well. She told me that the wait times were from 1-4 hours depending on the emergencies that show up. I could stay in my car or go home, but to keep my phone close by.I waited 2 hours before I heard from the doctor. She was dealing with several other animals and one did not make it...She called to discuss my dog and wanted to get some x rays. My dog ended up having pneumonia. She was sent home with antibiotics and home care instructions. It was a 2 hour and 45 min trip total on a Holiday night. I was actually expecting the wait to be longer, but glad it was not!
Both of my kitties had to be put down recently. The staff was wonderful and kind. They were understanding and continued to reassure the kitties and myself. Yes, it was a little expensive, but that’s to be expected in a world without proper pet insurance.
Absolutely horrible service at this place.. 100% DO NOT GO here for your pets emergency.. My 1 year old English Springer Yeti broke his femur and they said they could either do amputation or a $7,500 surgery... On top of a $435 visit and another $200 consult meeting with the surgeon.. Over $8,000 for ONE broken leg.. I resourced else where to north Penn animal hospital.. Much further drive but was able to walk out of the door with a $2600 surgery..My dog got to keep his leg and was walking back on it a week later.. If you have an emergency Defiantly go to Dr. Rossi at NORTH PENN ANIMAL HOSPITAL NEAR PHILIDELPHIA... Not this place.. This place is a scam.. Will cut your dogs leg off or put them down if you dont have the money right then and there!!!
My tucker has been through 5 vet appointments within a 2 month time period at our regular vet (not going to disclose the name) and each time received a different diagnosis but was not getting better. He was to the point he was very lethargic and had what I thought to be a small seizure. I rushed him to the emergency vet and Dr. Wisenberg was nothing but helpful. He told us there was pressure behind his eye and needed a CT/MRI scan ASAP to determine what was putting pressure on his eye. We outweighed the options (tucker is still young at 4 years old) and since this is the most helpful information we have received in the last 2 months after multiple misdiagnosis, we were willing to spend the money just to get some answers. Dr. Wisenberg was ecstatic that we were proceeding with it bc he sounded like he generally cared and even called around for me to get the best price for the CT scan. He booked the appointment for Metropolitan Animal Hospital in Valley Forge, Pa and off we went. Tucker was diagnosed with a brain tumor and we only have a few months left with him but Metropolitan gave us a steroid to help the swelling. He is feeling much better for the time being and is much more alert than before. I can’t thank Dr. Wisenberg enough for all that he has done- we may have lost him that day if we went to my normal vet.
Pretty sad place. I understand that its a emergency vet clinic, but why over priced. Seems like they care about money more than helping
Our beautiful 8 yr old cat Louey became ill out of the blue this morning at 4 am. We called York emergency vet and then we took the hr drive with louey crying in pain the whole way. We got there and per covid protocol they came out and took Louey in,we received the call that what he had was not treatable then we started the euthanasia proceedings. They were exceptionally kind and understanding to us and my daughter was clearly devastated by it. This was an awful experience but they handled it professionally and with heart and we are grateful.
Not sure how this place is in business at all.Nothing but a money hungry vet. Disappointed with so many aspects of this vet. Beginning with your terrible customer service, the most uncaring and unsympathetic people I’ve ever encountered. I called 5 times while the pet was in their care and received different answers from all of their phone techs. I understand that the ER is a hectic nerve wracking place to be working and keeping track of all the pets can be frustrating but, I can’t imagine that these people are really working at all. I had originally placed the dog in their care two days prior to this incident where they barely looked her over diagnosed her with vertigo and sent her home with medication. No blood work or further tests were done. We were told she had a bad ear infection that had led to vertigo and she would be fine in a few days to weeks.I returned with the dog tonight as her condition didn’t improve, I couldn’t get her to eat or drink, and she urinated straight blood.I suppose if these vets studied as well as they should have they would’ve known further tests should be done. However they decided to try to take a urinalysis and give her fluids as I hadn’t been able to get any water or food into her and diagnosed her with a UTI. I requested blood work, questioning if it was vertigo at all. They told me it would be an additional $200 to an already $500 bill. I asked them why this visit was so expensive compared to the other one and was told “It’s after hours.” The bill from two days prior was almost half that.I then questioned why they didn’t take bloodwork in the first visit to see what was really happening with her, they simply responded “we don’t take bloodwork anymore, it’s not routine.” Any other ER I’ve heard or have been to ALWAYS take bloodwork. For as much as they charge for after hour emergencies I would’ve thought that they would actually be trying to figure out the real illness instead of taking advantage of the vulnerable pets owners pockets. They called and said she had a uti and I could come get her. Upon arrival I asked for a copy of the urinalysis as I wanted to take it when I got a second opinion. They then told me they weren’t able to take one but, saw her urinate on a pad and knew it was a uti from that. Then they brought her out, told us to give her benadryl, loaded her into the car, and THEN and THEN and THEN they ran back out with an IV bag because the Doctor FORGOT to give the dog the fluids we had paid for and specifically requested as she hadn’t been drinking in over 24hrs. They proceeded to give the dog the IV in the car! The lack of safety and organized care in this facility is honestly terrifying. As someone who works in the pet industry I am completely baffled by the neglect these doctors and tech induce on animals and the how the take full advantage of pet ownersThank you for all your disrespect from your reception ladies, neglect from unorganized staff of “trained” doctors and techs, and unnecessary risks you put the pet in. She’s still suffering because of you and we will be searching for another opinion because you switch up the answers to the same question so frequently that I don’t believe I can trust a single medical diagnosis from any of your employees.I highly recommend running as you can from this joke of an animal care facility. Drive the extra half hour for a different clinic. Your pets life might depend on it
Horrible! Wont even discuss what a simple procedure would cost, without bringing the pet in and paying $105 for a office visit. Called to ask what a very basic procedure would cost. Was told sorry, you have to come in and pay the $105 first.
I brought my dog in for an eye injury. i’m from out of town. I ended up waiting over four hours in the parking lot for what was a 15 minute process. They didn’t tell me it would be so long at the beginning or when I called back to inquire where my dog was after the vet had examined him. I think they delayed bringing him out even longer to punish me for asking what was taking so long. After had paid their excessive fee they delayed bring him out for a further 20 minutes. Avoid these people if at all possible.
Last night we had to very suddenly and unexpectedly make the decision to have our dear Golden Retriever, Foster, euthanized. As difficult as it was, we knew it was the right thing to do. In all the emotion of the last little bit of time we had left with him, I cannot remember the Drs name that was with us, but she was wonderful. She explained everything to us in a kind and caring way that allowed us to know we were making the right decision for him. We would like to thank her and the entire staff for allowing us to say goodbye to our sweet boy, and helping him cross over peacefully. We were allowed to stay with him in their comfort room as long as we needed, and he was with those who loved him and whom he loved until his last breath. We’ve already laughed and cried many times this morning remembering all the shenanigans this boy had with us and his fur-siblings over the years. While it’s difficult, we know it was for the best. So thank you again to the wonderful staff for your kind words and care for our sweet boy.
We had to have our older dog euthanized in the middle of the night. The physician and technician were beyond professional, kind, and empathetic. Would highly recommend them. Thank you
They treated my cat with such care and I can’t thank them enough. I know that my boy can be a feisty little thing, and not once did they complain or say they couldn’t help him. They carried out a successful surgery and saved my boy’s life. I am forever grateful for that! You can’t put a price tag on saving a life - but if I had to honestly I’ve seen worse. Thank you for being great!
Took our 4 month old beagle here & they insisted he had gotten into marijuana or prescription drugs. Here we are a week later to find out he has a inner ear infection & roundworm. He was there for 4 hours for what? Paid $105 for them to say he was “high” & to have him “sleep it off & to feed him Doritos” I WILL never go back! If you can’t even tell me 2 SMALL things about what’s wrong with my dog, what MAJOR things are they probably missing. I’d save your money & time going to this place. It’s a whole joke.
My dog died less than 12 hours after being there. Horrible staff and the 2 of the vets don’t know what they are doing. They didn’t even know that my dog was dying.
In January our 12 year old cat suffered his first seizure and a bad fall during it. We brought him to the emergency vet and they did everything they could to help him, but unfortunately the seizure seemed to have done permanent damage and we decided to put our cat down so he wouldn’t suffer. The staff was kind yet quick during the emergency situation and doctor supported our decision to either humanly euthanize him or work with us on a treatment plan. Thank you for your help during our cats final days.
I’m currently waiting in my car for them to take Bori in. Giving 1 star because someone came out asking if she had gotten the parvo vaccine and asking to swab her for the test. She told me it would be 75$ but did not offer to give me time to check or call her normal vet to find out if she had gotten the vaccine. Flustered, of course I let her swab Bori and we’re still waiting for them to take her in. After the fact I checked my email records for her vaccines from her vet and turns out she’d received the vaccine just a month ago. This place sucks I just want to know if my dog has worms or not and we’ve been sitting here for almost an hour.
My wife took our dog in there this afternoon and after they diagnosed our 50 lb. dog with a torn right ACL and partially torn left ACL made the dog walk to the car... I would think they should know enough not to let a dog in that condition try to walk.
I had to make a horrible decision to put my beloved dog down on Sunday. Not only did they agree to help me when no one else was able, but they did it in such a caring and loving way and everyone was so kind and understanding. Their comfort room is a beautiful place to say goodbye. I cannot thank them enough for the gracious deed they did today. Thank you so very much. ❤️Their kindness will not be forgotten.
They got my cat Rosie in immediately when no vets in my area would take a new pet due to COVID.The pricing was very reasonable for an emergency vet.
When we had to make the painful decision to let our dog pass on, this location was our only option on a Sunday. From the moment I called to see if I had to schedule an appointment, Carli and the entire staff treated Hannah and our family with care, compassion and dignity. No appointment necessary. A gurney to the car to keep her comfortable instead of bouncing her around(if necessary). A private Comfort Room with sofas, etc. for your pet and family. No pressure in the time you want to say goodbyes; a handheld button to press for when you are ready to have have the doctor come in and for when you are ready to leave so they can express their comfort and to not leave the body in a room without dignity. When we left, they gave us a clay imprint of Hannahs paw.Dr. Watson was caring and kept Hannah painfree. She was never afraid. As pet owners, we have to experience this terrible moment. But when you have to, I highly recommend Animal Emergency & Referral Center of York for your pet and you.
I had to take my very elderly pet to this facility and I would not recommend this place to any pet owner. With an euthanasia besides a STAT that comes in are your main priority. In my case I had to wait more than a half of hour after they took my pet back to get a IV placed for the procedure. After I waited for a while- I kept pressing the pager they gave me to inform them Im ready for the procedure. I had to call the main office, in order for someone to come to check on us. Afterwards, I was so out of it because Im holding my dying pet; the point is you dont have someone wait a long extensive time for an euthanasia.
Took our boxer in to be seen for ?GI bleeding and vomiting. Staff was polite and knowledgeable. The vet explained several potential diagnoses and some treatments as well as relevant tests. Cost options were presented to us prior to agreeing to anything. Would recommend any owner take their pet there.
My Dog woke us up at 3am scratching her ears, and shaking her head. The vet didnt examine her- gave her a shot to subside the itching temporarily. THEN SENT ME HOME WITH EAR CLEANER INSTEAD OF THE ANTIBIOTICS THAT SHE NEEDED. The tech didnt want to help me clean her ears- even though the vet said she would. Two days later(after the weekend) my regular vet called and was concerned because my dog wasnt getting antibiotics( emergency vet faxed a report over). When I called Animal Emergency I was told We dont take business from your regular vet, so no you didnt get antibiotics. Go see your regular vet Only in it for the MONEY! They dont care about the animal, they were happy to charge over $200 for a steroid shot, and ear cleaner. NOT Help my poor sweet dog get better.P.S. not a single person/animal there other than me, so their lack of caring can not be excused with we were busy.
It was time to put down our beloved cat Puff, and everyone here was so nice to us.As hard as it was to say goodbye they made it easier then we thought it would be.They gave us all the time we needed in the room with our boy till we were ready for the Vet to come in.Thank you for the beautiful paw prints that will always keep Puff home with us..This place is truly amazing!!!
My little Yorkie more or less broke his knee and needed surgery, my normal Vet sent me here to see the orthopedic surgeon. X-rays were done, the Doctor came in to chat with me about what was needed. She was very polite and professional, I was given a price for the operation and everything needed through post-op care. Next day was the operation, when I dropped my dog off everything was gone over again. As promised, I was given a call when he went into surgery and a call from the Doctor when he was done. I called in a few times over the next 24 hours to check on him and each time talked with someone that knew exactly how he was doing. His care was outstanding! The level of treatment was as good as what I received in a people hospital in the past, maybe even better. Should you need to go here please remember it is an ER for animals, they must constantly prioritize the needs at any given moment. Yes I had to wait for a few minutes but only because another dog was in danger of losing it’s life, so a wait worthwhile. When I got home with my dog, I had a post-op question so I called and was given a polite informative answer! Every single person I encountered provided top shelf service!
We just had to put my cat to sleep and the service here was amazing. Very professional and sympathetic. Thank you guys so much!
They are cruel to animals here. I got to the hospital at 2 PM, no one ever called me to update me so at 5:30 (still waiting in the parking lot) I called them and they said that my cat needed fluid and then they would bring her right out. It’s now 7:40 and I still do not have my cat. I tried to go into the hospital to ask where she was, the ladies at the desk were very rude. Lots of times I called the number and they put me on hold and eventually they would hang up without getting back to me. I know that my cat is just sitting in her crate in the back and they WONT bring her out to me! She is 17 years old and gets very anxious, I just want her back in my possession and no one here cares.
The staff is always friendly. They answer all your questions. They’ve treated me with respect and my pet with love. I’m so thankful they were able to help with my little cat 🐈
Ive had to make emergency trips several times (with different animals) and have always chose Animal Emergency & Referral Center of York. On two occasions, Ive had make the difficult decision to put down a pet during off hours when my regular vet wasnt available. Both times my pet and I were treated with respect and compassion. The most recent visit occurred when the Coronovirus pandemic had just begun. One Saturday morning, my cat, Hank, was in distress and due to the nature of it, my regular vet sent us to the ER Vet. It turned out to be a urinary track problem which meant Hank had to have a brief surgery, then remain for 48 hours after the surgery. I was a wreck, but in spite of the restrictions due to the pandemic, I was again treated with respect and compassion. The overnight doc even called me in the middle of the night to give me an update once the cath was removed as Id requested. They were also available after Hanks discharge to answer questions about medications and food. The staff here are true professionals and treat the pets as youd want your beloved pets treated. Yes, it costs more than a regular vet, but the care is excellent. I wouldnt hesitate to recommend Animal Emergency & Referral Center of York to anyone needing emergency care for their pet. Im personally so very glad they remain available and provide a high level of care.
This place is HORRIBLE! My dog had a problem giving labor to her puppies we waited for about an hour and a half. They made me pay 100 dollars for just the appointment We didnt even know she was pregnant!! They said the surgery would be more than 2,000 dollars and I couldnt afford it. So they said they couldnt help me and that my dog was my responsibility. I begged them for a discount and they said they werent that type of animal hospital. All I was looking for was help for my sweet dog.
This place told me my dog was “perfectly healthy” after I brought her in because she STOPPED BREATHING. two days later she has a sever upper respiratory infection. They might as well have stollen $105 from me.
Its hard to put into words how wonderful my experience was. Took my dog here thinking she was just sick, and ended up having to put her down. The entire staff was so caring and accommodating. They went above and beyond my family. My dog received excellent care from all staff. Yes it can be pricey to take your pet here, but you have to remember they offer emergency services, just like an ER at a hospital, which means increased prices are to be expected. And because they offer emergency services it is not always a first come first serve practice, the most emergent cases are seen first, as they should be. I feel like the staff was very open about expenses and pricing was very clear. These staff members work long hard hours, please be kind and patient to them, they deserve it.
Money hungry vet. Does not, want or care for your pet. Will not help make any type of financial aid happen. Do not have $4000 for surgery that any other normal vet cannot do well sorry folks but your pet will die because they DO NOT CARE.
My 10 yr old GSP had her stomach flip and seriously sick! My vet highly recommended Animal Emergency and now I understand why! They were very prompt, compassionate, and thorough! My baby girl was prepped for surgery before I even left, but not before I was allowed to give her some love! This meant the world to me! They told me I could call anytime to get updates and they were true to their word! I highly recommend their services for emergency care that just cant wait... if I waited my baby girl may not be with me today! Thank you Animal Emergency!
I cant say enough about how wonderful they treated my familys dog. Dr. Brinkman went above & beyond for my Titan & if it wasnt for her, I truly believe he would not have made it. The staff were so great & never seemed upset that I called so frequently to check on him.
My dog had a grooming accident about a year ago (clippers got caught on a knot where the front of the back leg meets the stomach), they were quick to take a look at him and he was out of surgery and ready to go home in just about 5 hours. Everyone was friendly and understanding. One of the scariest things Ive experienced but, they were assuring that everything was going to be okay. We were very lucky that we have accident insurance on him, so the bill wasnt as much of an issue. Any place you go for emergency services is going to be expensive so, its definitely important to know the atmosphere of where you go.
They don’t care about your animal they only care if you have money the more money you have the better service you get
Waited 3 hrs in the waiting room on a Friday evening with a dog that had a gaping groin wound from a bite from another dog. They do not triage well. It wasn’t bleeding so I guess they figured she could wait. Only one vet was on that evening. You’d think if they were that busy they would have more than one vet on. I rated a 3 because once we were seen care was efficient and good.
This is our 3rd trip hear dealing with emergencies. The staff are fantastic, and the doctors carefully explain to you the medical situation & several options.Ive never felt they opt for the most expensive option.Great, and always spotless inside.
Last week, we took a little kitten that was found wandering near my wifes work. Diagnosed with respiratory infection and parasites, which we figured; however, the antibiotics they gave arent even on the on-label use for this type of infection.Over the course of the week, the little guy seemed to be getting worse, not better. Took him back last night because he was in distress with stool and urine everywhere, a fever, and was barely responsive.Staff didnt seem concerned of his condition and informed me he was stable while I waited over an hour to see a vet. I explained that I didnt think the antibiotics were appropriate but the vet kept saying there are no inappropriate antibiotics (which is totally false, look it up) and that it didnt matter that they prescribed two antibiotics that are counter-active with each other (basically meaning he had *no* antibiotic coverage for his infection).Had the same experience as others posted where they gave us an estimate in $1000 dollar ballpark and wouldnt treat (not even an x-ray) until we signed it. The kicker is they said they didnt know what was wrong with the cat (heres a hint, untreated respiratory infection). The vet talked to us like we were complete idiots and had no bedside manner. So, given the very large estimate (and dont get me wrong, a life is worth far more than a grand) and the prior failed treatment, we were uncomfortable leaving him there because they wouldnt allow us to stay in the treatment area with him. We took him home, this time with the proper antibiotics prescribed (too little, too late) with the hopes of seeing a more caring and compassionate vet in the morning. As I write this, Im still blinking through the tears because our little guy died in my arms at 2:30am gasping for breath because his infection had invaded his lungs and overtook him.Unfortunately, there isnt a lot of accountability in PA regarding pets as the law considers them property... I hope this saves someone else the heartbreak of what I just experienced.
This clinic gave us outstanding customer service, excellent medicine and I believe the pricing was also fair. The staff was very efficient, compassionate and explained each step clearly. My cat is on the mend and I appreciate all they did for us!!
We unexpectedly had to rush our 7 yr old Rottweiler to the hospital for labored breathing. Unfortunately, we were advised she had cancer in the lungs and chances of survival were slim to none she would even make it through the night. Unfortunately, we had to euthanize her as she was in a lot of pain. Dr Collins and the entire staff were kind, considerate, and gentle. Their demeanor was just what you hoped for, especially when our baby had shown no other signs up until this event. To say we are devastated is an understatement, but they truly showed compassion. Thanks to Dr Collins and the staff for being there. RIP Maisy! Easter Sunday 2019
I rescued two kittens that were abandoned on my porch.. One had a health emergency. Thank God they were here and helped.
We had a wonderful experience at Animal Emergency & Referral Center of York. Our cat needed to be euthanized because she was 17 and in a lot of pain. You could tell she had given up and was ready to be at rest. We first went to Yorkshire Animal Hospital and they did not treat our cat with the compassion and love she deserved, so we began looking elsewhere. When Animal Emergency & Referral Center popped up on google, we decided to take her there. It was an amazing experience. They treated not only us, but our cat with compassion. They were very gentle with her, and made sure she was very comfortable when she went to rest. Dr. Weisberg did a quick examination so we knew we were doing the right thing, and then spoke to her and stroked her head until she was at rest. We feel as though they provided the care that our beloved Patches deserved. Even the front desk staff was very kind. You can really tell they care about your animal and will treat them like the family member they are.
This was my first time using the vet! I was impressed staff was friendly and knowledgeable kind to my Baby which is very important to me! The Veterinarian herself was very friendly and explained everything to me and was very loving to my baby Zoey! And very knowledgeable and went out of her way for even the littlest things. You could tell she love animals! The facility was clean and without any odors . I was very pleased and Thank God they are there when we need them with the 24 hr service ! God Bless and thank you
Had to take our Pomeranian puppy here after he got mold poisoning. That staff took quick action and saved my puppy’s life. They stabilized him before getting a payment and gave me an estimate. The next day when I was able to pick him up they actually issued me a refund!!! We called many times throughout the night and each time we were given an update and treated with the most kindness! No one ever seemed annoyed by our frequent calls. In the event of an emergency these are the people you want working on your furry family member.
New emergency vet opening in New Freedom. Try there for some real kindness and not greed. Too bad the doctor is surrounded by rude mean and uncaring support staff.
Hope you like waiting, because thats what you will be doing here .
Not only did they save my 11 year old GSPs life when he needed emergency surgery for a flipped stomach, they also took tremendous care of my 10 month old GSP when we took him in for what turned out to be shards of something in his stomach. Very up front with the prices and very compassionate towards my family and my dogs. Highly recommend to anyone in need of emergency services for their fur babies
We brought our dog in for an emergency (hes fine now) and could not have been happier with our experience. Dr. Weisberg was the vet that night. Dr. Weisberg and all staff that we worked with cared for the well being of our dog and were kind and knowledgeable. Best of all we were not there for that long and they figured out what was wrong with our dog! We have a regular vet that is closer to us, but in the future I would go there again if we had any sort of pet emergency.
This place is more worried about money than taking care of your pet! overpriced ripoff!! Tell your vet to remove them from their emergency referral list!
Waiting 4 hours for a dog that is suffering and at the end of her life is horrible. Family members of mine went seeking help to end the suffering and have been completely separated from their dog for 4 hours with no answers or concern or sympathy at all. Do not recommend.
Its hard to write a review on a place where you take your loved ones during an emergency. My Doxie had a very bad reaction to a series of vaccinations the vet up sold my wife, in PA you only need rabies. Anyway she broke out in hives and couldnt keep water down. She progressed to a very bad state. The vet didnt get back to us until he was out of the office. We rushed her to this facility. The staff was calm, and pleasant. This was at 11PM being a former 3rd shift worker I understand people arent as spry as 1st shift people. The service was quick and effective. And in the end, thats all that matters. Im just so thankful a talented team like this is willing to be up all hours of the night to help. Who knows what might of happened to my dog if they were not open. So if anyone from that staff is reading this, thank you. FYI their prices are amazingly good. Things arent free people. Dont own a pet if you cant afford the care they need.
Staff was awesome and extremely accommodating. Kept my dog alive and comfortable for hours so that I could get home from a late night business flight. They were also very honest with what the cost of the surgery would be and the very little likelihood of survival, instead of just taking our money and setting unrealistic expectations.
Thankfully, it wasnt very busy. Took us right back. After they checked my dog in the back, the vet came in and was Great! He gave me a few options, and was very upfront with prices. The only down side was how long it took to get my dog his shots. Price was a little high, which was expected, but not crazy.
I will never go to this facility again. Our 20 year old cat was in bleeding and in distress. We called ahead of time and said we were coming in needing euthanasia. When we walked in, carrying a crying cat, no one even came to the front area, for several minutes. When they did, they showed zero compassion. Then told us it would be awhile because they had no rooms, even though we could see an empty room. We ended up leaving and driving to another vet.
Our poor dog sat alone for two hours. We had to call for updates and they did not know they had a sample or even which dog I was calling about because they did not know or ask my name. I will never come back here. Then they try to say we tell people 1 to 4 hours wait time and they did not.
Just sat and waited TWO HOURS in a room and did not even see a vet. I called them beforehand and they said NO WAIT. I knocked on the door multiple times and was ignored until finally banging on it and letting them know that I was leaving and not paying anything to them. All the did was get my dogs weight and temperature. Not to mention - the receptionists were NO WHERE to be found when I checked every 2 minutes to see if I could get someone’s attentions. When I told them I was not waiting any longer and that I was going to have to go somewhere else all they had to say was “I’m sorry” and closed the door. I do not recommend this place AT ALL.
THANK YOU! My dog decided to eat my leather boot while we were out of the house and ended up getting it stuck in her tummy. We were referred here by our family vet and I could not be more satisfied with them! They were extremely kind and patient with us and Pepper (our pup). They were very nice when I called periodically to check in during her surgery and recovery and they were extremely thorough when explaining her medication information at discharge. We could not be happier! Thank you again!
About 2 months ago we needed an emergency vet for my cat. I knew my cat was going to need to be put down. And since were new to PA we ended up taking him there because of the late hour. The staff was rude. The tech practically jerked my cat out of my arms without telling me what she was doing. (This was an older lady) I made her stop to tell me where/what she was doing. As expected my cat needed to be euthanize. The vet came in and showed very little compassion. I said my goodbyes and my husband stayed in with our boy. The only nice thing they did was give us (Im sure it wasnt free) paw prints of our cat. Its a shame the staff has little sympathy for their patients. They should think about changing jobs.
Absolute wonderful staff. My cat was spayed at another vet, brought her home she was bleeding a little and all her stitches were out. Brought her in here told them how much money i had which was no where near enough but they got all their staff together discussed it and did her procedure with what we had.
We took our cat, Andy there last night, thinking he had a blockage since he has had them before. Turns out he was going into heart failure. They gave us two options, medication, or putting him down. Unfortunately we cannot afford medication. We also didnt think it was fair for him to live like that the rest of his life (especially since he could go anytime even with medication). So we chose the other option. It was hard, but I know it was for the best. I wanted to say thank you to the staff here. They were so caring and kept us calm. Especially Dr. Longbottom. She was amazing, she showed us his x rays and talked us through everything. I would recommend this place to anyone! Thank you again!
Dont waste your time and money going to this place. It cost me $85 just to get an estimate of how much it would cost to treat my cat and they didnt do anything for him. They said the bill would be $1300 or more. The cat died 1 hour later. These people are only concerned about money.
This place is awful. Definitely wouldn’t recommend we’ve been waiting for over 3 hours and just finally got into a room still waiting on a vet.
