Fantastic! Seren was wonderful and I love my cut! Theyre doing a great job of following covid protocols. My temp was slightly elevated at first so I sat for a few minutes for a retake and was fine. Its very reassuring to see businesses actually follow protective measures. Everyone was super nice and seriously, my first haircut in months and I feel like a million bucks. Thank you!!!

Barry is my barber, however I would trust any of them. They have an awesome environment and pay attention to details.

I love this place. They just give great mens haircuts. Real quality time and effort put into every cut. They dont cheap out on anything. Heated shave lotion, experienced suggestions, and they take the proper time to do everything right without cutting corners (pun intended). Also, they have coffee!

Just moved to York and needed a place to get my son’s hair cut. Picked this place because it looked cool and edgy. Grew up in a household of barbers and hairdressers who owned small salons, so not a big fan of chain places. My son has the thickest most unruly hair imaginable, but being a teenager he still wants a stylish look, and Smiling John did an amazing job. I have taken my son to a multitude of salons in the past trying to get him a decent cut, and this by far is one of the best, if not the best haircut, my son has ever gotten. Amazing clipper skills! John really took his time making sure the cut was even and perfect. Looked great! Completely impressed. Plan to come here from now on. Price was reasonable and inline with other salon prices.

Best kept secret in York. Fun and friendly with great service. What stands out is the staff. They are experts in their craft who love what they do and support each other. And they treat clients like gold!

This is by far the best barbershop in York. While my barber of choice is Rick, every single person who works here manages to be both quite interesting and incredibly skilled at the profession. Leave your apprehensions and prejudices at the door and you’ll be treated to a good conversation and excellent haircut.I recommend making an appointment or going in on the odd hours of a weekday. Waits can get long, but the quality of the work is more than worth that wait.

This is my absolute back up when I’m in town when my barber can’t get me due to the crazy weekends. Haven’t been here in years but John is a guru in cutting hair and his staff is truly experienced. Great place, good atmosphere, and experienced barbershop and salon for sure!

I saw Didi for the first time today, and couldnt be happier. She did an absolutely beautiful job with both my cut and color, and it was fun to be in her chair. Went here for the first time today. Reese made my experience very enjoyable. I feel like he really went above and beyond. I wasnt sure how to really describe how I typically get my hair, so I gave him a very vague description. He made sure to ask questions to make sure he knew what I wanted and it turned out great. Ill definitely be going back.

I called to make sure they were accepting walk-ins, and when I arrived 15 minutes later (still 2 hours prior to regular closing time) was informed that they were closing early and not taking new walk ins.

John has been cutting my son’s hair for about a year now. He does an awesome job and my son loves him! I loved the shop so much that I switched to Didi for my hair. She is absolutely amazing. My cut and color is perfect every time!

A former coworker and great friend named Jason works here, Ill admit, he generally cuts my hair a bit shorter than I intend, but it always looks great, he is friendly, fairly priced, pays attention to detail and does a great job, while its always shorter than I generally want, Ive never gotten a bad cut from him. Jon and Didi the owners are always friendly, love their customers, their barbers and stylists and the community, they are a corner stone of York on Duke St. and one of my favorite local businesses. Pamper yourselves gentleman, and do it here at this local business, they always have a smile and a cold beer for you when you walk in, I wont go anywhere else in York. Great place for a straight shave too!

I started getting my hair cut here like two years ago and absolutely love it. The atmosphere is so much cooler than any other barber shop/salon Ive been to. Its got an awesome rock and roll vibe with some really awesome people working here.

Traveled from NYC to this location since I was told they have someone who does wonders on dreads. Rick was able to clean up and tighten all 61 of my dreadlocks. They do all types of hair, friendly staff, and Ill definitely be traveling back to get future dreadwork maintenance done here!

Called to see availability and if appointment was needed. Some do appointments and some don’t. Barry did, had a tight schedule but got me in near the holidays when they were very busy. I’m a tough hair cut because I’ve got blond hair that shows every line and imperfection, if there are any. It’s been a real task for me FOREVER to find great, not good, great stylists or barbers. Barry killed it!! Me never having been here before or trying his ability was a gamble but it couldn’t have been better while traveling through this town and I highly recommend this shop because of it. Thank y’all for caring about quality here over quantity, hard to find! Great place, and genuine people to talk with while getting cut.

I have been searching for a barber for over six months and actually started driving down to another state just to get someone who knew how to trim a beard and wasn’t afraid to use a straight razor, and on top of that I actually did not have to ask for my eyebrows nor ear hair to be trimmed. From the moment I walked in I felt like damn where has this place been hiding. I seriously urge anyone who is feeling like they want just a little more out of there barber, oh forgive me I almost forgot this is not just a place for men, ladies if I got the service I got from Reese I know you will just as blown away. But people’s check this place out. I could go on but I’ve never felt so good after leaving the barber.

Literally the only place I will ever get my hair cut. No one does a fade like Smiling John - and being prior military, Im very picky about my hair cuts.Adding to the quality of service - the vibe in the shop is incredible. All the employees will treat you like theyve known you forever, and thats just rare these days.

Been going to Smiling John for about three to four years now. Maybe more. They know Im gay and have had no problems with them, nor they of me. They both have a unique sense of humor, one that when I have my aid in, enjoy hearing. Have had more people comments about my hair cut since I been going there. Everyone has an off day. John wasnt smiling and he missed my brows today, so what. Lol. He included me in his conversation and ask me questions. Anyway I would recommend them regardless of who you are at least once for the experience.

Called 10mins b4 asked if they had any openings. They stated walk ins are always welcomed. Forgoing the information there was an hour and half wait. So after paying for parking I found out the wait time when walking in. Could of saved a trip into the city of York.

The work is awesome but if youre going to be open and accept walkins then you should have enough employees to cover the traffic. Not everyone has 45 minutes to wait for a haircut. Otherwise just list as by appointments only and I wouldnt have bothered. Nice waste of my morning.

I absolutely love this place & the stylists. Atmosphere is fun and welcoming. I had Seren cut my hair last month and she made it look pretty and healthy. Went back last week last minute on a whim to get it cut short and asymmetrical because I didnt have the guts at the time I saw Seren. Tory cut my hair this time and she did exactly what I wanted. Didi and Smiling Johns is the only place I trust with the shaven portion of my hair. Not only are they staffed with talented barbers and stylists, they can go above and beyond and turn your hair into art. The atmosphere is always a lot of fun with great energy.
