All things wood was subcontracted to refinish my front doors as part an overall renovation project. The owner quoted 3-4 days to complete the door restoration. They came and boarded up the front entry and placed the doors on A-frames taking up one spot in our garage. Six weeks later the doors looked horrible. The stain was very uneven and looked like paint in some areas. It all ended when I found 24 holes in our doors caused by the owner leaning on the door while performing the work. When I asked the owner about insurance to cover everything he disclosed that he had let it lapse. I never heard from G.L. Brown (the owner) again. This left my wife and I to fight with our general contractor over repairs. That was 1 year ago and we still haven’t had our doors repaired. The damage recently quoted over $4,000 to fix. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!
Mr. Brown of All Things Wood was very knowledgeable of wood, so I felt very comfortable in letting him make most of the decisions for me. His employees were very pleasant and didnt leave a mess at anytime. Price was much cheaper than the other two companies I had gotten quotes from. I can only say excellent things about this company and I recommend them for floors. I have them returning in Spring to do my vinyl siding, as it has faded over the last 20 years. Visiting the website you find this company offers a variety of restorations. My wife had to comment on how anyone could give Mr. Brown a poor review, when he is sincerely a caring man and only wants the very best outcome for you.
Go some where else. The owner contracts out work to a third party and only shows up to ask for more money for materials. Communication is great when you sign the dotted line, but disappears once work is to be done. Projects also go unfinished and the owner rarely checks the work of the contractor, even once the project is supposed to be complete. Why cant service companies provide, at least, standard quality services.
If I could give this company 0 stars I would. Unfortunately it makes you select 1 to type your review. The owner of this company is a crook. We paid him half of cost to add on to our deck, and stain our existing fence and deck. Project was not completed and we did not get any of our money back. The product was far beyond satisfactory and in fact could not even pass inspection to be completed. This was reported to the BBB along with photos. I do not recommend anybody use this company. Now more than 1 year later we are finally getting our deck finished with another company. I will always check references for all future projects.
I called this company late on a Friday afternoon, looking for assistance with a (small) sun-faded section of engineered-hardwood flooring that was going to be used as a negotiating tool for someone about to make an offer to purchase my house. Mr. G. L. Brown took my call at about 4:50pm. He proceeded to spend over 20 minutes giving me, an unknowledgeable, novice person concerning flooring, a short explanation of the type of hardwood flooring I have as well as how he believed I should prepare to deal with this person asking for an excessive amount of money to be knocked off the selling price. If everyone at All-Things-Wood is as generous and patient as Mr. Brown I cant imagine using a better company to work on ones hardwood flooring. May I also add that of the 6 other hardwood flooring companies in Winston-Salem, NC, that I called that same day, 3 couldnt manage to spend more than a minute or so with me, and the other 3 completely blew me off without helping at all.
