I had brought my Toyota Tacoma to them and had the transfer case replaced. I would highly recommend pro built transmission to anyone needing work done. They were very professional and respectful to me throughout my experience with them and answered all of my questions as well as they could. When I first called them about the work I needed they gave me reasonable quotes and were upfront about the possibilitys of the work that might need to be done. Once I had brought my truck to them and was properly diagnosed they gave me a very reasonable quote and were able to quickly get the work done ahead of schedule.

Picked my vehicle up today. The quote was for $3000. I called to get the total and I was informed it was now $4000 because they had to add more parts. Ive worked in automotive before and rule #1 is if you have to do more work than originally quoted, you call the customer and tell them. I would have had it done anyway but it would have been nice to be able to budget for the extra grand. They do great work. Id just suggest better communication with the customer.

Long ago I used them for a clutch problem I had on a classic pick up, and they didnt try to sell me the 2nd part to this clutch system because it was already replaced recently...and like Pros they saw that, and didnt try to swindle me like a LOT of places would. I was glad to let them fix my clutch and its been good for more than 5 years now.These guys are THE PLACE to go to for any and all old and new clutch and transmission issues. Plus, since then theyve referred me to a good mechanic who does work they dont do, and that turned out fantastic too!I like honest people who take pride in doing their job right. This company is THAT.

These wonderfully trained and experienced gentleman were recommended to me by Wilmington Tire and Auto on Oleander. George the owner quoted me a price and timeline on when my car would be ready and he kept his word on both quotes. My car was ready within four business days and the price was even less than what he thought it would be. So far Ive put about 400-plus miles on my car and it seems to me that the transmission is stronger than when I purchased the car 2 years ago. There are other transmission places in town that are okay but these guys really are Pros. Dont bother going anywhere else. these guys will do it right the first time.

Danny, the owner is very personable and friendly. As a young single female, I do get concerned about auto shops taking advantage of my disposition in not knowing much about the mechanics of my car. He was friendly, honest, explained everything to me, and quoted me at a price before he did any work. Great customer service! Will be back!

GREAT SERVICE!!!! I met with George and he broke down exactly what was wrong with my 2007 Ford F-150. Him and his staff were friendly and very knowledgeable! I worked with George - friendly and knowledgeable. I chose Pro-Bilt because the price they quoted me was significantly less than my normal car place. George quoted me a great price (which included towing my car to their shop), outlined the warranty, and my car was ready ahead of schedule. Only time will tell on the quality of the work, but based on my experience working with George, I am confident things will be fine. They will be the first place I call if (fingers crossed) I have other transmission issues.

I’m very pleased with service and integrity provided by the Pro Built transmission team, and shop owner Danny. My first experience was 5 years ago with my F-150 transmission that failed due to an accident, unfortunately a year after I’d settled with insurance. I did the same research you’re doing now, weighing reviews, years in business, clean shop, staff credentials, and gave Pro Built a call… Danny was in his shop on a Saturday so I delivered the transmission in the back of my wife’s minivan (yes, I tried to DIY). Danny took the transmission apart and displayed a large and costly broken part that is not included in rebuild kits. Instead of retailing me, Danny went into his stock of used parts and found what I needed. The rebuild including extra part was very fairly priced and it’s still running strong. Today: My BMW transmission ($$$$$$) has been slipping for a year so I had a European car specialist service it while replacing unrelated parts. When I got the car back the transmission was worse, the mechanic explained that it was 18 years old and parts just fail over time. I called Pro Built for advice and explained the problem, Danny thought something didn’t sound right and invited me to come it in for an evaluation. Danny and several mechanics drove the car, it was on the lift twice… Instead or a worn out transmission it was just 2.5 quarts low on fluid, even after another shop serviced it! My car runs great, Danny asked for way to little money and would not accept more when I insisted. I’m sure there are other good transmission shops in the area, but Pro Built is proven and my trusted source.

Took my car to get a new transmission installed. The transmission they ordered and installed had problems in 3rd gear, called George and he told me to bring my car back in. They fixed the problem within 2 days. Only place in Wilmington people should bring their cars for transmission work. Great customer service and quality work.

We have had 3 wonderful experiences with the guys at Pro-Bilt. 1st a transmission slip led us there. The shop took the time to see what was wrong, showed my husband and explained it. Advised we needed a new transmission, but we could keep driving until it gave out or have it fixed(liked that there was no pressure for this rather expensive fix). We decided to have it fixed right away(no need to get stuck on the beach) and were given an estimate that was spot on. Excellent work, customer service and even a warranty with the work.Next visit was due to a clicking noise that showed up while in 4X4 on the beach, they pulled it apart inspected it while they could replicate the noise werent 100% what it was so they recommended we wait a bit. WOW!, they could have told it was 1 of the 2 things we suspected and we would have fixed it. What honesty, plus they dont charge for the time and labor it takes them to diagnose.Third interaction was also great, needed a mechanic referral for another issue and they kindly referred one. These guys are great, honest and not trying to just make a buck. You can tell they take pride in being an honest fair and reliable transmission shop.

This is my second time using Pro Built so the work is Good and comes with a warranty. However I was told my repairs were going to be $1850 so that s what I prepared to pay let me be clear they did not say $1850 plus tax and service fees they said $1850!!!! So when I artived And had to pay $2224 it was a big disappointment !! I will not go back or refer anyone else ( I have Referred at least 5 people over last year) that is a $400 difference

I was leaving town on a trip with my two children heading to Raleigh with tickets for a special event. The tickets were my sons birthday present and we were all looking forward to the event. As I was driving down Market Street, my transmission light went on. I called Blacks Tire (also great!) and asked where to go and they directed me to Pro-Bilt.From the minute we pulled up, they were fabulous. They understood my concern about time and had my car fixed in 30 minutes! It was remarkable. They went above and beyond and had us on the road safely. I hope that i dont have transmission issues regularly, but when I do again, I look forward to visiting Pro-Bilt again.

I was out of town on a holiday weekend and it was Friday afternoon when my transmission line broke and my car would not go into gear. I called down a list from google and no one could or would help. First, they talked me through on the phone a few things to check to help identify the problem (it was a blown line, not a blown transmission) which was more than anyone else tried to do. I dont give 5s. And I rarely write reviews. Danny and his team rebuilt my transmission in a day and a half. I cannot imagine people are generally happy having to replace a transmission but Pro-Bilt will make the experience as painless as possible. The labor costs are very reasonable. I am not sure if you should expect as quick of a turn-around as I experienced, but I would definitely consider Pro-Bilt next time you need to shop for a transmission mechanic.

I had them fix my transmission and in less than 4 hours it would only go in the first gear.I had to pay a exta $80 to get towed so they can fix it but when i got it back they left the wire from my starter to the battery on the manifold and it meted on the manifold the truck cut off in th middle of traffic

I have used Danny for one clutch and two transmissions. Danny has always been straight up, no surprises with the final bill, quality work and on time work. I found out about Danny and Pro-Bilt by asking a friend of mine who owns/operates a very reputable Car Service center in town and he said that he sends all his transmission work to Danny...that was good enough for me. More recently, the last work that Pro-Bilt did for me developed a problem that was unrelated to the initial problem. Even though the work was out of warranty, Pro-Bilt fixed the problem at no additional cost to me. He was more concerned about his customers than a few extra bucks. I sincerely appreciated that and will continue to refer my business and others to Pro-Bilt.

I brought my jeep tj in thinking I had a drivetrain issue as it was making a terrible chattering sound. Danny took time to look at it and quickly recognized that it was the catalytic converter ( the material inside was rattling around). He recommended Cape Fear Muffler (which was a good experience) and sure enough it turned out to be the cat. Danny was upfront and honest when he didnt have to be and I greatly appreciate that. Thats something rare to find. If I ever do need any drivetrain work done, I know where to take it.

I had Pro-Bilt convert my 2wd transmission to 4wd. It was going in my lifted 05 explorer. During this project of me making the truck 4wd I found out the transmission needed a 4wd output shaft. So I took the transmission up to Danny because I have heard great things. His guys completely tore down my (perfectly working) Transmission, down to the last c clip... Swapped in a new 4wd output shaft and put my transmission back together. I took just the transmission to him Friday morning at 8am and I got a call at 4:45pm that my transmission was done! I couldnt believe it! I ran up there, got my transmission before they closed and put it in that evening. Everything worked and shifted just as it has before. Danny also warned me that my torque converter was blue from getting hot and there was a possibility of it going out down the road. It looked like steel getting super hot while it was out I grabbed a reman from autozone and put it in the truck. I cant thank Pro-Bilt unough! And their pricing is great. I am currently having them do my F-350 7.3 tranny knowing that they will do a great job!Update: I have put 20k miles on my f-350 7.3 dually and it hasnt missed a a beat. Thanks PBT

Their rates are fair, turnaround time is more than reasonable, and, best of all, they have the knowledge, skill, and ability to accurately diagnose, repair, and rebuild what I consider to be one of the most complex mechanical components of any vehicle.My experience began when I lost 5th, 6th, and Reverse in my T56 without warning and had to find a local transmission shop fast. Seeing the positive reviews for Pro-Bilt, I gave Danny a call and am glad I did! Hes very much a straight shooter and kept me in the loop throughout the entire repair/rebuild.
