This YMCA is great! The only thing I dont like about it is the gym floor. The gym floor is old and slippery and could be dangerous if you are running and you slip and fall. All the other YMCAs have gotten a new gym floor and I think you all should consider getting a new gym floor too.
So impressed with the customer service! Becky at the front desk is AMAZING! She is friendly, efficient and welcoming. She went above and beyond for me today by registering my son and a group of his friends for the YMCA teen summer membership program. Becky is a shining example of the type of person a business ought to have representing them. A++!!!
Great area, great distance to bike too, and even though their isnt a Hot Tub like in the Forest Lake one, still a great place to work out.
My granddaughter has been swimming at the Y since she was a baby. The instructors are very knowledgeable and make swim classes fun and they do an excellent job of teaching skills.I like the Forever Well exercise classes. The instructors emphasize that everyone has different levels of fitness and movement and effort is the key to maintain and increasing as well as maintaining fitness levels .
Pengbu, the lifeguard asked for our passes, but every other person that came to the outside pool, he did not ask for passes. I watched him as he looked straight onto the pool and never turned to look at the others that were coming in. After I confronted him, he started asking other people that came in about their passes. Needs to be consistent, I made a complaint to his supervisor. Was thinking of joining, but not anymore.
I love the Y in White Bear Lake. It offers a lot of classes, the staff is very nice, considerate, and professional. They are always willing to help and answer my questions. I have had Beth Taverna as a trainer for several years. She is very knowledgeable and listens to your concerns or ideas. She gives excellent feedback and offers valuable suggestions. I do recommend the White Bear Y to my friends.
White Bear Y is a wonderful, down to earth, friendly Y that is welcoming for everyone. Its so conveniently located, right off 694, so its easy to access even from neighboring communities in the NE Metro area. In my opinion, all the staff work very hard to make this Y work. Sometimes I feel guilty (but not really) because, as a Senior, my membership is free for me through BCBS insurance. I would definitely pay the membership price if I didnt have this great benefit!
My son had a great time at flag football camp held at White Bear lake Y. Staff was friendly lead by professional sports staff with additional youth assisting the kids in each group which provided a great staff/student ratio inorder for child to learn understand new skills with a personal They offered extended hours if needed. Very well put together, safe and organized with daily schedules with veriety of activities throughout day to keep them active an unintentionally unaware learning, building skills that will be used throughout their life! Decided to sign my son up up for Golf camp offered thru Y next month. Highly recommend to keep your child off the devices moving around outdoors during summer.
Went to a shine fitness class here, so fun
My grandson takes swimming lessons at the WBL YMCA. The instructor is so good with him!
Just got a full membership with the Y this past week after going through the 5-day trial the previous November (2019), and having lived in this neighborhood for 22 years growing up. Overall, a really nice facility that I think everyone should try out at least once. Schedules for open and lap swimming are often confusing and hard to understand -- one pool can be entirely closed during one period of time, where another can only have five people at once. I do appreciate that staff are kind, knowledgeable, and willing to help when you ask for it. Its also nice to see how full the facility is with the ongoing pandemic, making it easier to decide whether or not to go to your home gym, or to head to a different site.
First time there is confusing to find locker rooms and work out rooms. Parking is good.
This Y location is clean, uncrowded and has excellent weight area and pool area. The facilities are newer and the staff always quite helpful and friendly.
I love this location. I take a lot of classes and the instructors are great. The folks at the front desk are very nice and always to help. WBL is my favorite location.
Staff is very friendly and helpful. Glad Im a member.
The staff is super friendly and helpful. The Y is very clean along with the equipment. The pool is great for all ages.
So excited to see hours expand and more classes!
Great customer service at the front desk! Great racquetball players!!!
Very nice and friendly :)
Amazing staff, extremely clean, great customer experience. Id give it more than 5 stars if I could.
Not bad at all. Staff is very nice. Wish it had the torso rotation machine though.
My 1st visit to a Y since March. I was pleasantly surprised. Much better than I expected.
Very nice clean facility. Friendly customer service. This YMCA has an extremely large pool that my son loves going to.
Awesome place Awesome staff
Staff is super nice here. Especially faced with the difficulties of handling the younger patrons. But from my observations, they handle situations well. Its nice they still foster a place where kids can be in one place and not out getting into trouble. But the gym floor needs dusting. Its borderline unsafe, slippery if you are trying to play a competitive game
Super friendly staff, clean facilities, and never very crowded equals a win for me. I’ve been a member for about 5 years. The weight/exercise equipment is everything I need. The indoor and outdoor pools are great for the kids. Both of my daughters have also done swimming lessons and sports here, too. A+
Went as a guest. Very nice facility. I really loved the sauna and pool. Showers were very hot and friendly. I forgot to bring soap and shampoo and a kind man shared with me. I will be looking into this Andover Y.
Friendly. Great pool.
Group fitness classes are great! Knowledgeable instructors who bring great energy. Body pump instructors are especially awesome. Love going to those classes and my kids enjoy the drop in child care. My youngest enjoys it and feels safe which is wonderful because she is typically very shy and hesitant of new people. Excellent place all around!
Get a membership and take the kiddos to swim. You wont regret it for a second. They have watching your kids while you workout included in the membership. Its great to spend time with your family and its also awesome all the massive amounts of different classes you can go to...included with your membership. People are super super nice and you NEVER get that feeling of people are watching you work out feeling. A+ to the facilities, employees and the great equipment they have. A+++
Really good location for group classes. Has great group instructors and motivated people come here. Few complaints: for some reason quite consistently no hot water in showers. Also new building closed down the large outdoor pool that was truly great. Wish they kept it.
Nice facility. Includes workout room, gym, swimming and diving pools as well as studio rooms for fitness classes. Several different fitness classes are offered
Love love love the White Bear Lake YMCA! The trainers are so friendly and helpful. The front desk staff take the time to greet the members when entering and wish them well when they leave. I took my daughter with some of my guest passes. She enjoys the machines and weights so much that she is now a member too. Thank you!
Rude customer service. Will scam you with promotional deals and lie to you. Parking is atrocious and sometimes there is no availability to even park. Extremely expensive for what you get. Pool very dirty and full of garbage and bandaids.
I’m 78 and have been going to Gentle Yoga for years! I love it...Heather is a perfect instructor. She explains the what and why of all the moves, she’s personable, friendly and so darn nice!
The child care staff is amazing here! Barb is one of the nicest people I have met and she knows all my kids by name as soon as she sees them. I feel very fortunate to be able to have our kids in such great hands while I go for a work out - thank you for doing such an amazing job!
This YMCA is great. They have all the amenities that you would expect from a Y. The staff is great, especially the kids stuff staff. They were great working with me and my son who has a healthy dose of stranger danger so that I could eventually get some alone time to work out or even just sit and drink coffee. A godsend for this stay at home dad.
The place is ok. I go there to swim around almost every week but for some reason, today wasnt the best it couldve been at the YMCA. I jumped into the pool and suddenly the lifeguard told me that I couldnt swim in the lap swim area, but Ive always swam there. He told me that I wasnt able to swim if I was 15 and that I could only swim without a wristband if I was 16. So I had gone all the way to White Bear to swim with my sisters and relieve some stress, just to find out Im not allowed to swim, to do what I love?? I ended up just coaching my sisters out of the pool on the pool deck and then a swim instructor came over and assured me that it was ok for me to swim and also told me that he was new. Just for future reference, please instruct your lifeguards to know their information correctly, because of the lack of knowledge or communication, I couldnt do what I signed up for, swimming, I wasnt allowed to swim for a good solid 30 minutes.Sidenote: please put both sides of the flags in the blue pool, today I went and there was only one flag put up. I bumped my head badly because of the fact that there was no flag on one side.
They do a great job for their clients
Very friendly staff.
One of my favorite place, calm to get in and out of. Busy, but in a I am not alone sense not a there are no machine sense. I fully trust the worker in the kids club which is a huge plus.
My husband and I go to the WBL YMCA at least once a week. He uses the equipment, like treadmill and weights, while I take a yoga or pilates class. Afterward, we meet in the pool followed by the sauna. The facility is very clean, the staff is friendly, and parking is free. So impressed by the variety of classes offered, and the quality of the instructors. Top notch place to exercise, learn how to swim, do yoga, weight training, etc.
1st time there and decided to take a yoga class...yoga teacher was great but the room location was dumb! Why would you schedule a yoga class above a cycling class at the same time??!! Defeats the whole purpose of calm and peaceful session. They need to get their schedules in order! On the bright side, Facility is clean.
Great open swim area. Nice facility.
I love this ymca. Its by far the best gym Ive ever been to. The staff are incredibly friendly - after going fairly regularly for a couple months, multiple employees recognized me and knew my name. The gym equipment is always very clean and rarely crowded. The pool usually has plenty of open lap lanes if you dont go during swim team practice (2:30-5:30 weekdays). There are also tons of classes offered for free and various types of courts which they will loan you the necessary equipment for free.
This location has everything I need, but it does not have a walking/running track or a hot tub. The classes Ive taken so far have been very good and challenging. Nice staff.
I grew up here. It has changed through the years, but the staff is usually welcoming and helpful (everyone has bad days at some point), the facilities are pretty kept up. Occasional indoor pool issues. For the most part a great place.
Great gym. Very new equipment, everything almost always works. Very comfortable atmosphere for people at all different levels of physical fitness. My one complaint is the loud kids in the locker room. I recognize that it is the aquatic center for the high school but I cannot understand why there was not a youth locker room built when they did their large expansion a few years back. If there were separate, clean, adults only locker rooms, this would be a 5 star review.
BEST YMCA in the area. Great crew always keeps the place clean, safe, and secure. Huge pool area very well monitored. Weight room facilities are spaceous.
One of the better Ys along with Ridgedale around twin cities
The Silver Sneakers classes are Awedome.Instructors challenge us and make us believe we can still move it!
Friendly environment with great and helping staff. It tends to be a bit crowded in the weight and cardio room around 5-6, but its manageable. I also love going to group classes like spin and body pump!
This facility has been renovated fairly recently. The pool is quite large and is nice. I didnt use any of the other facilities.
It was ok
I had the worst experience from this YMCA so far. Took the family out to swim activity. Dead of winter, hall ways to pool was cold, pool room ambient temp was cool and pool water temp was cool. Not cold, just kind of cool. An adult could probably acclimate to the temp once in the water, but my 8 month old was shivering still after 20 min. So it was cold for my kid. But not the worst part yet (2-3 star maybe). Went to the family locker room (which you have to go through the freezing hall way), again not the worst. Family room shower stall: A, B, C, & D. C-D had a trickle of running water and the water was cold. Nope. Okay. B. Some water! Half of the amount you get from your regular shower, but it was not cold, kind of warm. Wow! Really? Only stall A had warm water and sort of enough to shower an adult and a toddler at the same time. And the locker room was freezing with what seems like no heat at all. My toddler was blue by the time he showered and wrapped up. He caught fever afterward. Worst experience from a YMCA ever. Ill stick to Maplewood down a few miles.
She is the very best in finding deals, places to go etc. for Seniors or ForeverWell!
Just like most YMCAs. Very clean but always busy... had my sons YMCA traveling basketball game here, only disliked the fact that there wasnt any place to sit to watch the games
Great front desk people and Bay is an excellent trainer.
Would not let my son use the phone when his ride didnt show up. He ended up walking 4 miles. No PA system in the building. When I called looking for my missing teen they kept hanging up on me and then transferred me to Forest Lake YMCA. Not organized and employees act like they have no idea what is going on. Not impressed.
Rosie is an awesome Oula instructor. Ill definitely be back for her new Monday night class!
Fun for the fam. The age you start working out is the age you will look for the rest of your life. Youre #1...
Awesome staff and well maintained. I always feel comfortable going there to exercise, and there is always a spot available at the times I go.
Im surprised at the negative reviews! I have had nothing but a great experience at the White Bear Area YMCA. All the staff has always been super friendly and helpful. Not to mention the facilitiy is very clean and always looks excellent. You shouldnt run away from this place just because of some reviews. Check it out for yourself first! I love it.
Great place to work out for adults, has daycare for kids even has a really nice gym and swimming pool, has excellent out door pool and mini water park with water slides lockers and much more.
This a great Y location. They have a huge pool and decent size workout room.
Its not the nicest or newest Y in the area, but they do a good job with what they have. Just wish they had a more fun swimming area for the kids like some Ys have, like Maplewood.
Very nice and clean facility. Large pool and gym space. Decent size workout area as well as a lot of cardio equipment. Would say this is one of the better Ys that Ive been to around my area.
Very pleased all around with the visit. Large pool with plenty of lanes and a great area for kids to play. The window from the cardio machines upstairs allowed me to keep an eye on our daughter while she swam. There was only one bench press, which seemed unusual for how much there was in the weight/cardio room. The womens locker room was clean and the floors were dry. Were visiting members, and were very happy to have found this Y to use on our Thanksgiving trip!
I completely agree! There should be separate Men and boys locker room; and separate Women and girls as well. What in the world were they thinking. If the YMCA in Hudson can do it, they can do the same thing at all of them.
Friendly and as frequent visitors, regular employees remembers us.
Stellar staff members and clean facility compared to other YMCAs. However, it would be nice if the YMCA was more flexible with their hours.
Stopped by here for the gym one night while I was in the neighborhood. Pretty bland. Free weights area only had one squat rack and the rest of it was pretty sad. Cardio machines seemed kinda sparse too. Im glad that this wasnt my Y. No need to return here.
I take part in group exercise classes 3 to 5 times per week. So good that Ill get up early to be there.
Had to wait 7 min for someone to go to the desk and help us on the first day of swimming class for my daughter. Then was told she cannot swim before or after swimming class because we are not a monthly member! But we are paying the $100+ dollars for the swimming class! Not understanding since its the same area why she cannot swim 10min before and after class?
Great place to workout with great child care. Wonderful outdoor kids pool
Very friendly staff- unfortunately there was no easy, comfortable place to nurse -- they did offer me someones office-- which I found generous and untraditional but wish places made it a little easier on breast feeding mamas
My family is extremely pleased with our neighborhood YMCA. Great amenities. knowledgeable staff. We go weekly.
Very nice location. Better than most of the ymca Ive been to the twin cities.
Never too buisy. Employees are kind and always ready to help. Great equiptment. No intimidating monsters.
This is a excellent facility and organization with great customer service and a wide variety of classes and activities.
One of the nicer Y locations, especially if you like child free lap swim.
Large selection of workout areas, latest aerobic machines. Free weights, 2 large pools.
This place is not conducive to good workouts. Went in with good moods, left with bad workouts. I went to another Y with similar results.
Water aerobics instructors are the greatest male working out fun and great exercise.
Parking can be a challenge on evenings when swim meets are taking place. It would also be great if they added a hot tub.
Friendly, attentive staff. Clean facility. Great class variety.
Very friendly staff, well-equipped gym, a large variety of classes with enthusiastic instructors, and a family-friendly, non-judgmental atmosphere. Great place
Very friendly staff, clean facility, and nice outdoor swimming for kids.
My oldest daughter has swim practice here. My youngest daughter has to sit around and do nothing while we wait. I think it would be nice to get a day pass for my other child and they do not sell them since it is a normal YMCA and not attached to a community center. Hmmm what? This policy is beyond words. I would rate this YMCA lower than one star if could for this rediculous policy. I used to have a membership here, I have debated about getting a membership again. Debate finished not going to give my money for any more than I have to for swim team practice for any ymca.
Lolz how can I not give a good review when my name is on the wall, five star review home-bruhs and home-bras!!
Class schedules are too limited. I believe every class should be offered both during the day, and in the evening for those of us who arent able to make it during the day.The free session with a personal trainer is just an opportunity for them to try to sell you sessions. I didnt appreciate that or the waste of time it was.Its hard to use the pool at this location during the summer. Even when its available, its far too noisy in the pool area.Overall, I find it too crowded. I opted to get a membership elsewhere.
Nice disc golf park here, worth checking out if youre into this sport.
Great workout classes, friendly staff and a great place to bring the family to the pool.
OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES: Fraulf (freesbie gold) and trails to run or walk with random benches to sit and talk, and bridge where you can stare and mock, all the car that drive by all while standing over a tiny little steam. Then there are baseball diamonds, sledding hills in the winder months, picnic tables, outdoor pavilion with restrooms (rentable for events or parties.)
The lifeguards are good at their job
The indoor pool is one of the nicest around. There is a sauna but no hot tub.
Great workout area. Kind team but the vending machine had it out for me and denied me my cliff bar :(
