We have an older AC unit in our home. It suddenly decided to quit on us at the worst possible time. Not only was our home insanely hot but whenever I think about HVAC repair, I worry about how expensive having it worked on will be.I called Modern Comfort because they are a local company and I prefer working with local companies when I can.They were able to respond quickly. Being a business owner myself I was highly impressed as many of companies are having issues with too much work and not enough help.Parker was the name of the technician that came out. My wife and I both loved his professionalism, honesty and how he ensured that we knew EXACTLY what the issue was. It took him maybe five minutes to diagnose.I was so happy with the service he provided that after he left I immediately called Modern Comfort and signed up for their Total Care package.Now I feel like I have peace of mind and I know that they have my back if something happens.I am a happy customer.
The tech tried to sell me a $400 part for my a/c he knew I did not need.He said he was surprised to see a loose wire. He reconnected the wire and a/c went on.He then said that I also need a blower motor and he would have it in 2 days but it was “jerryrigged” to hopefully hold until the part comes in.It’s been a year and a half and the blower motor is still doing just fine

Christian was able to figure out the problem with our fairly new heater and took the time to go over our system and how it works. Come to find out this company installed our newer unit. January 2021Our heat pump heating system would not supply heat above 68 degrees so I called Modern Comfort to schedule a service call. Since I purchased their annual service contract, there was no charge for the appointment.Service Tech,Willie Gibson, quickly found a water leak problem emanating from my condensate pump. This caused an overflow of the storage tank and could have been a disaster if we had not been home or on vacation. More importantly, the non-functioning pump signaled the heat pump to quit working. Once the condensate pump was replaced, all is well again. Thanks, Willie for a job well done.November 2020Once again, I find it necessary to comment on the sales, installation, and performance of a top-notch local company in Carroll County headed by their Executive Vice President, Mr. Tom. Eckert and his excellent service manager, Frank Hensley.During a recent repair of my air conditioning system, a talented team of technicians named Scotty, Mat and Mike were sent to handle the job. After a consult of the problem with Frank Hensley, it was decided that a thermal expansion valve was in need of replacement. However, during the install, Scotty discovered a hairline crack in the heat exchanger, that could have widened to cause a carbon monoxide leak. This could easily have been overlooked if Scotty had not been so diligent in his examination.Scotty showed me the area of concern, and we decided to install a new heating system. In so doing, he redesigned an antiquated air flow system, designed a detached system oil filter, and made the entire heating process more efficient. We’ve recommended MC to all our neighbors and friends after having our AC replaced last year. Our house was built in the 80s so it was time to replace it. They were much more reasonable in price then some competitors in town . Their front office, techs and supervisors overall are great. Scheduling was easy. They were reliable and really try to address every question and concern you have.
From contacting Modern Comfort to the completion of the install was super easy. The sales rep (Glenn) was very clear and understanding to the last detail. I do not usually review, but I wanted to this time! I use Penn Mar (their sister company) for my oil in the winter. I called because I received a flyer in the mail about tune ups. We were having issues with ours, so I gave them a call. The lady was super nice. Got me in for the next day. They told me after 12. Guy was there around 12:20-12:30. I locked my dogs up because I do own two pits (super nice though, but can be intimidating walking into a home). He immediately began talking to them after he spoke with me. It was the nicest and really cutest thing. He went right to work after making my pups happy. He worked away for about two hours. Checked in with me to let me know what he was doing, how it was going. Even made chat about the tv show I was watching. I really had a pleasant experience from all I encountered. I also liked that he didnt take my credit card information. He told me to call in and pay over the phone. I liked that because I dont have to worry with my card number rolling around. I would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone!!

My fiance and I wanted to have our heating system checked in our house since we hadnt had it looked at after being in our house for 2 years. A relative recommended Modern Comfort as they used them for oil delivery, so I scheduled a routine check-up for the day before Thanksgiving. After the work was done, Thanksgiving morning our heat wouldnt work. We called the emergency technician out, and he said the hose between the vacuum chamber and switch might have gone bad, so he replaced it. Heat came on, and he left. We ran around for Thanksgiving and left the heat turned down for the day. Thanksgiving night, once again, our heat wouldnt come on. Called the emergency technician out again just before midnight. This time, he says the pressure switch is bad and needs to be ordered and replaced. He jiggled the switch until the heat worked. The following week, a different technician came out to replace the pressure switch. At this point, I had to take time off work. He replaced the switch and the heat appeared to work. He also told me, when asked if he wanted to see the previous paperwork, that he didnt because he didnt want to know what any of the other technicians before him thought and he didnt trust their opinions. He left, but before he did, he said our control board was throwing a code about a heat safety element being open, but didnt look into it. I thought he had... A few days later our heat didnt work. Now, a 5th visit is needed. The technician who came out said that now a heat limiting switch, that keeps the unit from overheating is bad, and thats what is throwing the code and making the heat turn off when the unit gets too hot and it needs replacing. For the time being, he said what they do is take the switch out of the unit, drop it on the floor and sometimes that can cause the switch to reset. He did that, and the heat appeared to work again. He also showed distrust in the other technicians work. He also informed me that the technician who originally came to our house had quit a few days later after our job. Half a week later, the switch is in which they failed to call and tell me. I only found out by calling myself. A guy came out and replaced the heat limiting switch, at which point my fiance now had to take time off work for.What a company... not even their own people have any trust in what the other technicians think and do, let alone actual customers.This was a routine heat check-up based on a good recommendation. Our heat was fine. It was a proactive request. This took from November 27-December 9 to have resolved, and Im not any where confident that our heat is fully fixed. Since then, our heat has worked, but I have not fully tested it by turning it up super high to see if it shuts off for high heat. I dont want our heat going out in the middle of winter if I dont need it to. If it comes to pass that something is still messed up, I will NEVER call this company back. I will call real heating professionals to come check our heat. I also am tempted to do just that anyway as I dont trust anything that was performed by Modern Comfort. The only good side of this whole problem is that Modern Comfort only charged us for the initial visit, which I was reluctant to even pay after all of this nonsense.

I called MCS to come out and give our system a once over due to the fact that we have a new home and are coming out of the builders warranty. We wanted peace of mind that we weren’t inheriting costly issues since we had the original contractor out to fix issues from installation over a dozen times since we settled in the last year.The tech, Tim, looked everything over thoroughly and said we were in good shape and introduced us to the service care plan that MCS offers. This was exactly what we were looking for and we are extremely happy to have found MCS.

Glen came out and gave me the best price in town, very honest and didn’t try to push the highest model on me. When the installers came out they were extremely courteous and thorough. We had an AC breakdown right in the middle of the hottest spell in ages. Modern Comfort was at our home within a few hours of our call. The HVAC repair man, Rob, was excellent. He was courteous, friendly, and fast. He had us up and running in no time.We use Modern Comfort for all of our heating and air conditioning needs and have never been let down even in the dead of night in the middle of winter or like in this instance with broken AC in the middle of a heat wave.

We had a leak in our refrigerant pipe that had to be replaced. Neal and Kevin were extremely knowledgeable, hard working, and tidy! They replaced the interior pipe leading from the furnace to the exterior heat pump which was a lot of work and recharged the system. They were very personable and explained what they had to do. After having worked with several HVAC companies over my lifetime, I appreciate Modern Comfort Systems and its service team tremendously.
Technician came out less than 2 hrs after I called in for emergency help (on a Saturday). He was very friendly and knowledgeable. Did not pressure me to buy additional services, and cost to come out and do repairs was very reasonable. Would definitely use this company again.

Pete obviously care about the quality and thoroughness of his work as well as the satisfaction of his customers. He corrected a situation where my AC was underperforming by not removing as much humidity as it used to. Pete carefully diagnosed the issue and cleaned the coils and inside my air handler. He reviewed the owners manual and suggested a setting change, explained it to me, and then made the adjustment. In addition he thoroughly inspected the entire system and advised me regarding the need to bypass my humidifier to further optimize the AC. He even glanced at my hot water heater and noticed a small leak He left me with a recommendation to replace it and a free estimate. Pete was friendly, engaging and answered all my questions. I can not recommend him higher. He strongly reflects the Modern Comfort Systems culture of taking care of their employees who in turn take good care of the customers.
Great service! They have been performing maintenance checkups for the past couple years and when it was time to replace our ancient air conditioner we had them put in ductless heating and air. The machines work great, they were installed quickly but not hastily and the price was reasonable.
Jim C. was THE BEST technician weve ever had come out to this house for any issue ever. He was professional, positive, and an absolute delight to work with. He went above and beyond to make sure we had the part we needed to fix our AC as soon as possible, and even went so far as to drive out to Frederick to pick it up.I would use Modern Comfort Systems again just for the opportunity to have Jim come back out. Ac stop working in the evening called MC and call was returned in a timely matter Kyle came to repair and found out it was beyond repair next morning showed up and replaced with new unit the Kyle and the other gentleman did a great job would recommend need more companys like them
Doug arrived promptly at the agreed time - actually a few minutes early - and performed the annual maintenance on our furnace and A/C system. When he was finished, the work area was cleaner than when he arrived. He found a leak in the A/C system, explained the problem, reviewed it with the office and presented the options to deal with the problem. Doug was polite, professional and answered our questions. All-in-all, very good service.

Bill Fisher came to fix my AC which randomly stopped working earlier this week. I’m no time at all he figured out the issue and came prepared with the parts needed to fix it on the spot! Everything was done same day, in a matter of an hour he had my AC working again, blowing colder than before. He even tested the temperature just to make sure he was satisfied with it. Very thorough, very diligent but also quick and efficient. Not sure how long he’s been doing this but his experience and knowledge clearly shows!

Have had good experience up till today. Cooling system line frozen, outside fan would not stop running even after shutting off at thermostat. Then smoke began to fill basement until I shutoff at electrical panel. Been listening FOR 30 minutes so far to how important my call is on their 24/7 emergency line. Its Sunday evening but that is part of 24/7! Wondering if my 79 year old Mom will have system (heat or air) tonight!

I Feel like I was ripped off by Modern Comfort Today. I contacted Modern at the recommendation of my realtor as Im under contract to buy a home in the area. I paid $150 to a lady over the phone via CC to have the furnace inspected as part of the home sale. I called later in the afternoon to find out about the furnace and was told that Since I wasnt the homeowner they couldnt tell me anything about the inspection they charged my credit card $150.00 for. I was then put on with the service Manager and he cited Maryland Law. I asked him why they took my money but wouldnt give me an inspection report etc. I found out that the furnace needs to be replaced from my realtor. However, I will not proceed with the purchase if Modern Installs the new unit. I believe they were dishonest in taking my money and not informing me that they couldnt provide me with the inspection report. My insurance carrier wont write the homeowners insurance policy without the inspection report. I explained to the service manager that I would be the one hiring them annually for all services etc. I will also ask my realtor who sells a lot of homes in the area to never recommend them again. So much for a future business relationship. Like they say you only have one shot at a first impression.

Modern Comfort installed out heat pump five years ago. We had a little problem with outside fan, thanks to Frank who diagnosed the problem quickly and replaced a part, no charge. We will always use Modern Comfort for our HAVAC needs. Thanks Frank!!
The techs are always courteous and pleasant and very willing to explain what the problem was. Moderns policy for weekend or night time breakdowns leaves much to be desired. You pay a monthly fee as assurance to receive help when needed and find if your system goes down the wrong time or day you have to pay $139.00 extra to get help. This is not right.
Rob was on time if not early, noted possible issues directly, kept the area clean, and was personable and direct with explanations, he was definitely one of the best MC staff to work on the furnace/AC I have had at the house in the past several years.
Doug Tested the furnace and found that the air pressure was too low and adjusted it to 12 psi. He told us what he had found and that the furnace is running well. he advised us to schedule our next inspection for April of next year.Doug is a professional technician who took the time to explain what he found, and to allay our concerns. We will defiantly ask for him in the future.
We have been using this company to service our oil heater since 2012. We had our heater break down over the weekend with an infant in the house. Jim came out for an emergency visit and was determined to fix our system. He quickly corrected the problem and was extremely professional and friendly. We received customer service that is above and beyond the norm. We are very thankful to this company and Jim!!
Had an issue with my Mitsubishi split system from day one. Would emit this foul smell when room met set temp or on low setting. They came out 6 times to try and solve issues and couldnt even figure it out. Finally admitted they oversized my units. Changed out one inverter and smell continued. Asked Frank and Glenn if it could be refrigeration issue from day one. Nope! Cant be they would say. Well called another Diamond dealer and he said it sounds like an refrigerant issue. Called Frank back and they finally checked it and it was 25% less than should be. No apologies or an explanation on why they didnt check refrigeration from day one. Know your product if youre a diamond dealer. What a joke. They wont even refund me for my smaller unit that they installed thinking it was the problem. Showing up with a spray bottle of coil cleaner and a 5 gallon bucket to stand on is not how you solve a problem.
I came home from work to a cold house. I called at 4:50 pm and have it all fixed by 6:15.Our contract with Modern Comfort System is the best!!!! I think this company is wonderful!!!
Modern Comfort Systems maintenance person responded quickly when our oil furnace would intermittently shut off on the weekend after its annual maintenance. He quickly scheduled an emergency response, got the unit working but noted it needed a followup service to insure it was completely fixed. Again, a quick appointment and again arriving as scheduled, he went above and beyond to discover the unusual problem on our old unit.. After the repair he explained the situation in laymens terms leaving me confident that well have reliable heat for the rest of this winter. Tim is a true pro!!. Thank you.

Employees were nice enough but I made an appointment for yesterday 6/19 and was told they should arrive between 12-4. 4:15 rolls around and no one showed up. I called the office and was told that they are very busy(which I understand) and that I was next on the list for the tech. At that point I took of of work for 4 hours and couldnt wait any longer. They claimed that dispatch shouldnt have given me a time window and that instead should have said after 12PM. Surely you cant expect people just to say sure anytime after noon until theoretically whenever is fine? This is why appointment windows exist as people have jobs also. Sorry but when I make an appointment I expect people to show up. Taking my business elsewhere in the future.

Had MCS come out to take a look at our heat pump since it was blowing cold air. Technician spent a good hour at least working on it, only to tell me it was an orifice and the office would call me with a price and availability. A week later they call to verify my credit card for the $89 diagnosis charge but nothing in regards to fixing my unit. Its been almost THREE WEEKS now and I have yet to hear anything. I called the number listed on their site and someone picked up saying what sounded like Yes? over and over but wouldnt respond with anything else. Huge waste of time and money...and still no working heat in the middle of winter. Thanks for nothing.
Its currently 10 degrees outside. I currently have no heat and called for them to come out and take a look. They told me they only take new customers on Wednesday. So what am i suppose to freeze for two days this is ridiculous.

Kevin L. and trainee Mike M. came out to diagnose and fix a problem with my oil furnace - it was making loud clunking sounds every time it started up and it sounded like a river was rushing through my baseboards! They quickly diagnosed and fixed the issue with the feed valve and purged a huge amount of air from the system. Im sure now it will purr like a kitten! These two techs were professional, courteous, informative and on-time and the ladies in the office are always a pleasure to work with! We have been dealing with Liberty Oil for years and years. I was skeptical when they changed owners. I called for my annual cleaning a burner check. I dont know how these people sleep at night. Recently had them do a maintenance for my furnace, the tech never changed my furnace filter, said he changed the oil filter but did not see the old one.
Called at 4:40 pm and they had a tech-Bill Fisher come out that day and he found the problem with my AC unit and had it fixed hat day. He was very knowledgeable and courteous.

We have been using Modern Comfort since we became a Tevis customer in 2003. Last summer they replaced our upstairs heat pump/AC and we couldnt be happier with the fast, polite service we always receive! Most recently the power vent on our furnace stopped working, and the tech suggested the most cost-effective solution, which saved us money. I feel like MCS gets it!

Bob W. a tech with Modern Comfort Systems impressed me with his knowledge and diagnostic skills. Last week the TXV valve was diagnosed to be defective by another tech who had to order the part. After the part arrived, Bob W. was sent to do the replacement. In a few minutes he was able to determine the TXV was not defective and figured it was just a dirty coil. After cleaning the coil and balancing the charge in the system the AC is working perfect. Bob W. was a pleasure to have in our home. Bob W. saved us from a very expensive repair.
