While I ultimately accepted a job offer from someone else, I greatly appreciated how responsive and professional Palmer Group was while working with them. They checked in every week and followed up with me after submitting me to various job opportunities. They were one of only a couple hiring agencies in the the Des Moines area to stay in contact and follow through with what they were telling me. Depending on your skills (like mine) it can take time and patience to find the right fit, but I would highly recommend giving them a try.

I was a math educator for 19 years, looking to start a 2nd career. I started applying in January in 2018 and 2019 and got 2 interviews total. After I graduated from Drake University in Dec 2015, my recruiter Stephanie was quick to find me a position in just a few weeks time. I started as a temp at Wells Fargo since Feb 2016 and eventually being hired on full-time in Nov of 2016. Unfortunately Wells has a policy that they no longer provide documentation for the extension of my work permit (STEM OPT). Due to the expiry of my original work permit, I left Wells Fargo in early 2017.Fortunately, Palmer Group was quick to provide documentation required to extend my work permit (STEM OPT) for an additional two years. My new employment authorization card was approved, thanks to Palmer. When I left Wells, another Palmer recruiter Cheryl reached out to me and asked if I would like to interview with Global Atlantic for a Product Support Analyst position. I declined at first, because at that time I was going to take on a contract work with another staffing company that I found interesting.However, the project with another staffing company was suddenly being put on hold indefinitely. Cheryl checked in with me again and asked if I like to interview again since GA is still hiring. I said yes. My experience with them was not good. They didnt reach out to me to initiate anything, rather I had to be very proactive searching their listings regularly and contacting them to inquire about potential matches. The person I was working with didnt do much to help me - no constructive feedback, no questions about how I felt things were going, and no follow up. Any contact that I had was initiated by me. Worse, when I didnt get a response to an important email I followed up with another and the individual claimed that they responded, but didnt. This happened two or three times.I ended up finding a job on my own and I did better without them. I couldnt say if the whole agency is this bad or if its just the person I was dealing with. I used Robert Half after losing confidence in The Palmer Group and they were far better. I ended up getting a job on my own but Robert Half was more communicative and supportive. Job searching can be tough and sometimes you need support and guidance. I got absolutely nothing from The Palmer Group and I wouldnt recommend it.

No communication or followup from them. At all. VERY unprofessional.I reached out to Palmer Group to find out more on a position they had posted. They were very eager and quick to get me in for an interview, which can be tricky while employed, but I get in the next day to meet with them.I had a 30 min interview with Jessie Boll, which went very well. She was easy to get along with and appeared to know a lot about the client they were filling a position for.During the interview, we both agreed that I would be a great fit for the position. She gave me a little homework to do after I left, which was to bring up the full job description and respond to all the requirements and expectations with my abilities and experiences.Jessie emailed me the complete job description the next day which I completed that same day and emailed back to her. She responded fairly quickly to double check on my date of birth and that was it.That was the LAST time I ever heard from Jessie Boll and Palmer Group.The email was sent over the weekend, so I waited till the following Tuesday to reach out to make sure they had what they needed from me. NO RESPONSE.Not very professional at all. Palmer is in the business of people and not doing the bare minimum to maintain relationships is VERY poor business and just poor communication in general.Next, after approximately 2 weeks (first followup email I sent was on 11/26/14...no response to that) I emailed again just as a courtesy followup and to maybe get some answers. That email was sent on 12/9/14. Guess what? Yep, you guessed it. No response.Theres a lot of recruiters out there these days and a lot of them are very good a what they do. After all, they make money when you make money, so generally they work hard for you as they have a vested interest in you.Not so much with Jessie Boll and Palmer Group.

I applied for a job on their website. I was called the next day for an interview and went in the following Monday. I met with two women who were very nice and asked the regular interview questions to understand my needs and abilities. Then I was told they didnt have anything open (odd considering I came in to interview for a specific position) but said they knew of a different department that might have something and asked if Id be willing to interview with the recruiter for that department. I said sure. I met a man named Brian who asked a lot of the same questions but didnt really listen to the answers. He also said he didnt have anything open but that he probably would have more jobs at the end of the week. He then had me take the standardized tests and said hed call me the next day to discuss my results. He called the next day and said he hadnt gotten any jobs in but hopefully the next week, then said hed call the next day and talk about my test results. He called the next day, said my results were good and then asked for the name of my supervisor at Wells Fargo (I had worked there through a different temp agency),information that Id already given him and the original women who interviewed me. He had a position open at Wells Fargo and wanted to see if it would be a problem. Id had an issue with that supervisor and I knew he wouldnt give me a very good reference, information that I told him. Thing is, that position was from 2 years ago and I had 2 other positions since then, one that I was at for a year and a half and that had kept me on for a year longer than originally planned, he wasnt interested in that one though. So he calls back and says that the manager didnt give me a bad reference but that it wasnt a good reference either (which didnt surprise me). This position was with the same supervisor so he said, because of that he couldnt place me there. That was fine with me as I had no desire to work with that supervisor again anyway. He called the next day and said he had another position in a different department at Wells Fargo but that he would need me to give him my supervisors information from my last job, a position I was only at for a month and a half because work slowed down, again not interested in the previous position where Id been for almost 2 years. He also said that he couldnt place me until I had called the rehire number and why hadnt I called it yet, this was my first time even hearing about it. When I tried to call it I couldnt get anything because it asked for an employee number, a number I didnt have because I wasnt an employee. I told him this and was told to try again, and of course it still didnt work. I get a call back the following day stating that this manager had also give me a bad reference (which was news to me because she had told the temp agency that placed me that I was a wonderful employee). He said that she told him that my production was low, considering I was only there for a month and a half and I was the only temp, Im not even sure who my production was being compared to, and that I had attendance issues. I told him I didnt understand any of that because shed told my other temp agency the exact opposite and shed told me the opposite as well and that it didnt make sense. He basically just talked over me, didnt listen to anything I was telling him, and kept rushing to get off the phone. He then said that because of the 2 bad references he wouldnt be able to work with me anymore and hung up. He nevef called my supervisor at the job where I was at for over a year and he never called my other temp agency to ask about their experience with me or to verify what the supervisors told them. I feel like the whole experience was a waste of time and I got a lot of run around and then a brush off

I was extremely impressed with my experience at Palmer Group. I interviewed with another staffing agency a couple days then a couple days later Sarah with the Palmer group reached out to me. She had a position she wanted me to interview for. I did and I started working the following Monday. When this position ended she had me interview for another position. I was hired for this position. I would still be with Palmer had they had openings in my area. Great company to work for and Sarah has great people skills and matching the employees with the right position.

Fresh out of college I initially had a tough time finding work. I applied for a position that Palmer was advertising for and they did a quick phone interview with me. Later they contacted me about a different job but still sounded interesting a relevant to my major. Although it was a contract position, they assured me that the company does all they can to hire internally when positions open up. I was a little skeptical that a permanent position was a strong possibility, but I have now accepted a permanent position after working at the company for 4 months. Palmer Group was easy to work with, often followed up to see how your work was going, and even treated me to lunch.

Ive been enrolled with this company for four months. In that time, I havent gotten a single referral or job suggestion. Meanwhile, I sent resumes and applications out to about 50 companies in the Des Moines area, got 4 interviews and 2 job offers without their help. I worked with both Matt J. and Chris L. while I was contracted through Palmer Group to John Deere as a Quality Engineer and they kept working for me after my contract ended at Deere (low business equaled layoffs). When I met with the Palmer counselor, I was told they had two or three job opportunities that would work for me despite my somewhat limited job skills. I was led to believe I would have a job within a few days. Oh well, I guess the joke is on me because I went home that day and did the laundry and cleaned the house so everything would be done before I started the new job.
