This place is beyond disgusting. The locker room was trashed with litter and towels everywhere. There was a stench coming from the carpet. Hoodlums were sitting around and eating. It’s a down right joke. I only saw one employee the whole time I was there. Literally one employee running the entire place. I see why other gyms are flourishing. The Ys are become a thing of the past and with good reason
Over the course of about 3 years I really enjoyed the facility and the fact that they had updated equipment. I also had great experiences with the instructors of the classes. The only reason I would give a 3 star review instead of a 5 is because of the front office staff. They have a couple very nice employees who are easy to work with but there are others who are not as customer oriented. Bringing a guest seemed to be the biggest inconvenience for them. Every guest who I brought commented on how rude and unwelcoming the staff was. Not to say all the staff is like this as I have again had very pleasant experiences, but a handful really made it difficult for guests. I understand too that the employees are following corporate rules, but at the same time they are unwilling to be understanding in any way to the customer as if I am out to rip off the Y in some way.Overall, great place to work out if you can just get past the front desk!
They still wont accept members from other YMCAs because...wait for it...covid.BUT, they allow the use of guest passes. What kind of a joke is this? Its July 2021, guys. Pandemic is over. Let it go.
Wonderful if you use it. Built in 1971 it is pretty standard but offers all the standard equipment. Opens at 5 am weekdays. Hope to see you there 😀
Some of the best open volleyball in Milwaukee-M,W and Fr at 1PM.
Pretty good gym all around. The courts can be very crowded though
My complaint is not with any of the staff and I am fully aware that it is a corporate issue. Here’s what happened. It’s Covid and my kids yearned to get in an activity, I’ve been hesitant bc I care for a survivor of Covid, yet I proceeded to sign my family up. I terminated my membership because all the programs my children would be interested in are all closed or have a waiting list. My children nor I have stepped foot in the Y to even walk through the doors after I setup the membership. Yet the company feels that should grant them $86? Hope that money goes towards a child to participate in a youth sport or something! Smh
Joined this gym January 2021 and I’m enjoying the YMCA experience. Very friendly staff and the facilities are all well kept and clean.
COVID safety practices are definitely in place!!! Hats off to the staff for the friendly reminders to Y members as they walk through the door!! My safety thanks you!
Held a family membership for 7 years. The customer service just deteriorated over those years. Those in charge shouldn’t be, and have no idea how to manage anything. The final straw for me, was to watch one the the male staff members repeatedly harassed one of my children to a point where it was sexual and when we reported it they simply turned a deaf ear. Definitely will cancelling our membership and not returning.
Wonderful until it wasnt...As a family member for 6 years I was proud to be associated with an organization that built up the community. I stomached the inconveniences like crowded classes and spaces because we believe in the mission. We were happy with the camps and childcare. I didnt realize how fragile it all was until we were moving away.Almost a year before we left, I suffered an injury that kept me from working out, but I maintained my kit locker always planning to return. Because we were moving, I went I to cancel our membership and clean out my locker on March 17, just before the state closed down for the pandemic. Imagine my shock to find it empty. I spoke with Katrina Leonard, the manager who told me they were going to be doing a deep cleaning and would let me know what they found. My membership expired on April 30th. On May first, I finally heard back from Katrina who told me that: We did not find your items during our deep clean. Typically in this situation, we would offer system credits for missing items. However, since you are no longer a member we are unable to offer this. Also, we are unable to offer refunds.TL;DR: They took my stuff from my locker that I was paying for, and told me the day after my membership expired that since I am not a member I have no recourse. So disappointed.
Love the running and biking machines, CNBC while I excercise, the friendly staff, and the sauna!
I love this place... Never had any issues... Staff friendly ..... Clean.... Thanks for a great job....
Please re-open as soon as possible, West Suburban YMCA. A first-class gym with friendly and very knowledgeable staff. I miss my YMCA SO MUCH! Thank you!
Variety! There is something for just about anybody! From program offerings to swimming pools to fitness equipment to group exercise classes to personal fitness training to high tech to social gathering options! Friendly, welcoming culture. All members of the family are encouraged to attend. All abilities (& disabilities) can be accommodated. Thank you, West Suburban YMCA, for being what you are for so many great members!
The facility is accessible, and the staff is very friendly.
I work out here because its close to work. I really like the space and layout of the womens locker room. This location is older and has that feel in the pool and workout area. We take the kids to Oconomowoc Y because theres so much more for them to do. If your an adult without kids then this location is nice. The staff have always been friendly and helpful.
The variety of sports programs for kids is amazing! My kids have taken gymnastics, tennis, running and swimming, and its been such a wonderful experience. There are a lot of gyms in the area to choose from, but what sets the YMCA apart is the excellent and varied childrens programming.
I’ve been coming here for almost a year now and the people here are very nice. The workout equipment is very good and I never really have to wait for a machine. The classes here are also very fun. I would recommend this gym to anyone who wants a lot of good equipment and people who don’t judge you.
This is my two boys first year going to summer camp and it has been my worse summer yet. My 4 year old normally attends childcare, but I took him from is childcare of 3 1/2 years (no problems ever) to enroll him at summer camp. Since being in the Y’s summer camp he has learned hitting and bad words from being in this summer program. I’ve observed two boys hitting him while he was sitting on a slide when I arrived to pick him up one day and the counselor wasn’t paying attention. I mentioned it to her and the directors but that didn’t seem to prevent the bullying. When dropping my kids off I witnessed counselor say nothing to older kids yelling profanity and the counselors never really pay attention to the kids. The counselor are usually talking amongst each other. I started to ask my older son who is 12 if he can look out for his little brother and he’s come home and told me that my 4 year old was sitting on the ground when another kid came running past and snack him in the face. When my older son tried to intervene he was told that it was none of his business. I was told when my 4 year old was enrolled that the little ones are not around the older kids but the little ones were always with the older kids. My boys are no longer at this camp and it’s for the best. I’ve reached out to several management staff and I got either no response or feedback from staff who give me a hard time because I’ve been complaining about the service. I’ve also seen so many other parents complaining about issues with their little ones as well. This problem is bigger than me and someone should really try doing something about the Lack of Care at this summer camp.
I love this place I enjoy myself Every time with my brothers. The staff are cool. And friendly. Very affordable snacks alot of Friendly people to go hoop with
My friends and I were suffering from the winter blues and decided to join. So far it has been wonderful and the staff has been super friendly. Jeanne gave us a tour and was absolutely wonderful. So far so good, and it is definitely a reasonable cost compared to other gyms we have looked at. We also took a few of the classes included with our membership and love it. The only problem we have had is a technical error with the lockers not reading our cards properly, which the staff member assisted us with. Hopefully they fix this soon, but other than that its a very nice place!
This is the best location in my opinion. I have been to several! My wife is an employee at another branch and we both worked at this location some years back before the remodel in 2009 or so. I love the amount of space, options, and overall layout of this site. Great location.
They really need to think about getting better ergometers (rowing machines) because the ones they have suck and dont even give you the correct workout. Rowing is becoming more of a popular sport around the country and I think that if this is more prevalent in the gyms that we should get better rowing machines. I couldnt get my proper training in that I need. Please consider this.
Our kids joined tennis and baseball. The instructors were great! Thanks Jessie!
Facility is clean and up to date with latest renovations and new equipment but it is so much more than just a health club. Safe and family friendly environment where all are welcome. Check it out!
The worst ymca I been too so sad this places should be for anybody and everybody. It shouldn’t matter what ymca you from you should be able to go their and have fun. This ymca really deserves no star.An anyone that change their ymca or looking for one this is not the right places.
We had a bad experience with Y Camp this summer. Our son cried every morning and begged us not to go. When we would drop him off, counselors wouldnt pay attention to him or help us get him comfortable. Often counselors were talking/playing with each other and not paying attention to kids. Our son also came home without water one hot day and reported that he asked a counselor to refill his water bottle and was ignored. All of these concerns were confirmed by a number of other parents in a chat on an app the camp uses. That discussion was deleted. We pulled our son out of camp and would not send him back.
Love everything about this Y!A lot of accessibility to the pool and lots and lots of equipment to work out on. Never too crowded that you have to wait for equipment.
Love the womens locker room. I am able to stretch in private, and work on my abs without everyone watching. Wish they still offered more services. Masseuse would be nice again.
I have had my membership for 15 years. Yes I’m an away member but the way the front desk treats you like you shouldn’t be there! I’ve gone to this location a month straight. When i return the front desk looks me up, the young man says your good, the young rude girl takes my ID and says she has to call to see if I’m valid! I stated twice i was here yesterday and all week, she continued and said i have to find out first! Not only that but 2 weeks later which again i was there for those 2 weeks she tells me that for the last 3 weeks they stop taking IDs. What? You just took my ID yesterday! And she continued to tell me it would be nice if I would just get a ymca card! I only go because it so close to my house if not I would be downtown!
I like the environment. Everyones focused on getting healthy! People are friendly yet respectful of your space. Great equipment and enough even during peak hours. The staff are outstanding.
Looked nice on the inside, but couldnt get more than 2 feet in the door before problems started to occur. I have a YMCA pass that I obtained from a different city within Wisconsin. My card scanned fine. My friend who was visiting, however, had a free pass coupon with what seemed like no restrictions. The people at the desk immediately dismissed the coupon without even looking at it. Next, I attempted to use a guest pass from my account and they couldnt even do that since I did not buy my pass there. Lastly, they dont even have an option to buy a day pass. Needless to say we left frustrated. Chances are I will not visit there again due to the difficulty we experienced and the customer service we received.
Pretty good YMCA. They have great summer camp programs for the kids!
Sign up for me and my kids back in April 2017, its been great. If I I can change anything it will be the gym hours, I would prefer open hours for basketball around the clock. 👍
Horrible summer camp experience to the point of neglect, we pulled our children for a variety of reasons including not having water on 90+ degree days, extensive bullying, sun burns, counselors ignoring the children, all 3 kids BEGGING to please not have to go... despite this being a free option to us through Wisconsin shares we have decided to cobble together summer care with friends and relatives and pay what we can out of pocket just to avoid the trauma of this camp to our children continuing. They will claim they are sorry and want to talk but we sent numerous emails to camp leadership outlining complaints in detail with no change in the treatment of our kids. We have a phone call out to the director of the west suburban ymca and it’s been 5 days with no call back so take any bs copout they reply to here with a grain of salt. Lies and excuses... when other parents started to bring up concerns to eachother, serious safety concerns, in the app the camp uses the posts were deleted and treated as if they never happened. I would be seriously concerned for the safety and well being of any child who goes here. We are actually seeking therapy for one of our children after his experience here and another who had been potty trained for 5 years regressed to wetting accidents...
YMCA camps are poorly organized.1st 4 days of camp counselors did not ask for ID from parents when picking up the kids.Water issue- Camps ran out of water during camp.YMCA lost paperwork with credit card information on it.No communication between departments about what was going on.My son is registered for baseball camp. No baseball played but softball was played.
If I am allowed to go to the NBA, it started here. Im going to build them a gym that looks like the Viserv Forum. We are going to get there together.
10/18/20 Update. Its been a year since I was here. Last time I couldnt come in because I forgot my ymca card even though I had a valid drivers license and a picture on file taken by this ymca. With no option to verify anything.I decided to come today since the brown deer location is closed on Sundays. HAD MY CARD THIS TIME. Trying to keep my momentum going on my path to health and wellness. NOTHING HAS CHANGED. I was told I couldnt come in since I didnt have a membership in Waukesha County during covid. If you have a ymca membership, you should be able to attend any YMCA period. This policy is disparate treatment impacting a certain demographic and socio-economic status. My family grew up going to the ymca to make sure we didnt fall to the perils of street violence. This was a safe haven for all of us. Discovered great talent and excelled in organized sports due to the influence the YMCA had on our lives. Who knew the YMCA would become a modern country club where Jim crow is legalized through the masking of a zip code. I cant workout because I didnt open my original membership in waukesha County. If you have a Kohls charge can you imagine if they said you can only shop at the store you opened your card? They are now using Covid to try to further their cause in eliminating and turning away certain demographics.Original review 2019: Very much an elitist gym now. If you dont live in the suburb you are limited on how many times you can come. Most YMCA, allow anyone with a membership to go to any location.I forgot my ymca card but had my drivers license. They would not allow me to enter. Huh??? No option to verify anything. I even had my picture taken on file at this location. Prior to this I had been going there for years. My son went to their camp each year etc. They pretty much let you know and make you feel unwelcome if you dont live in tosa. They swipe your card and look at your account for 2 minutes if your brown skin to see details. Everyone else they swipe and they dont even look at the screen they just go.Again an Elitist gym now.
This Y has very poor customer service. I have had several instances of poor treatment, but the last straw for me was when I asked my sister who is a member of another branch to join me at this location to work out. The staff was awful, they treated her poorly and acted as though she was not welcome. They refused to add another punch hole to her id card so she could use a locker and required an ID for a temporary use downstairs. They refused to help her with equipment questions and it was the most horrible experience ever. Really, who does that?? I will be changing my membership to another location. I dont have to spend my money at this prejudiced location. If they dont value her, then they dont value me.
So, Id leave this specifically for the summer camp portion of the program, but I cant, so this becomes the avenue for voicing this.Avoid their summer program at all costs, at least this year. Their performance has gone from quite good in previous years to neglectful and dangerous this year. Situations with children being basically unsupervised, being physically assaulted by other children and being told that itd be handled (which it wasnt as evidenced by the behavior continuing), a lack of adequate access to water on 90+ degree days, a complete failure to even apply sunscreen on multiple days in a row leading to bad sunburns. When concerns were brought to the attention of the staff (by multiple sets of parents), they were brushed off and told that it was not the case... despite these reports coming independently from multiple different children. And when we started posting our concerns on the app specifically for the camp, they were dismissed, at least until other parents started chiming in completely confirming the maltreatment of their own children as well. Then our concerns were deleted and blocked.Regardless of past performance, they are a hazard now.
Love to motivate the young men here lots of talented up and coming ball players
Facilities are terrible. Management is negligent. Do not become members here. My 7 year old daughter received a head injury when one of the bathroom stall doors came off the hinges and hit my child in the head. To make matters worse, staff laughed about the incident when they called us to check on the situation saying, oh yeah that locker room needs a lot of help. Never once did anyone say Im so sorry this happened. or This should have never happened. We followed up asking for a refund, however the membership director, Scott, said they would never issue a refund its against policy. DO NOT GIVE THE YMCA YOUR BUSINESS. Go somewhere that takes the safety of children and its members seriously.
Clean gym, friendly helpful staff, nice amenities. All updated workout machines. Even a non-gym person like me is tempted to keep on coming.
Some of the management working here will lie directly to your face and pretend they are deserving of their jobs. Behavior like this reminds me of middle school and lacks any sort of professional conduct. Shameful to see how many long time members are treated like garbage.
I have a YMCA membership from a different Y and forgot to bring my Y card. I was quickly dismissed and not able to use the facility even though I had been there a month beforehand they would not look me up or allow me to pay for the day. I asked to speak with the manager who was also rather rude and not at all kind or helpful. Highly disappointing experience and not the service anyone wants to deal with.
If you want a great pick up game in basketball then west suburban is the place for you!
Accommodating and flexible. Worth driving there for summer camp
Head of maintenance seems to think he knows more than God himself--has visions of grandeur and can not figure out how to keep a steam room running properly. Who hires these incompetent and bankrupt sorts?
It’s great. but can you pay for a membership with cash?
Before the remodel the track was located above the basketball court which was very nice and private and the weight room was much larger and more space to move around. Now the weight room is very small and no space and the track is now on the main floor which is sort of not private anymore. I loved the old YMCA WAY BETTER! Here is my update for 2018. I just signed up again and going to give it another try. Me and my wife decided to bring are kids but sadly we went at the wrong time not knowing open gum was at 7pm that day so my little one was very bored so I decided to run on the treadmill while he walked on the one next to me. My son is 7 years old and since I was near him I thought he was doing a good job just walking on it but then here comes one of the YMCA staff and tells my son sorry but your to young to be on the treadmill your going to have to get off...After that he was sad and bored and kept doing what all little kids would do when bored complain to go to the gym to play hoops but I told my son its not open gym for another hour. So are first day there was so so. The free weight room downstairs is meh small and they need to add an extra mirror. Upstairs is very nice but the track I wish was somewhere else because it just is strange being in a place with people coming and going so I decided to just use the treadmill since you dont have to worry about people in your way. I give the YMCA 3 stars . Pros. its quiet and no meatheads walking around. Open gym and swimming is nice to have. Cons It is a little expensive for not being open 24 hours and the weight room is downstairs and very small but All in All it is still a nice gym and very people friendly
Participated in silver sneakers yoga class. Have arthritus & it helps keep me moving.
Great place for the whole family. Pools basketball classes cardio weight lifting racquet ball.
I love ymca. Ymca is a lot of fun. Ymca is a swim place. It is so fun I can hardly believe. My opinion is that I think it is the best swim place in town. One time I swam so far my swim teacher had to stop me! Ymca is not far. Ymca may be expensive but trust me its worth a try. At Ymca there is a little pool. It is hot and fun. Dont be scared there are life guards to watch you if you are scared. Some of the things that I like about Ymca is that there is a pool that I can practice and another thing that I like about swim lessons is that I can swim. Ymca is so fun I can hardly believe. Ymca doesnt do swim lessons one at a time it does five or more. It is more fun with a lot of kids. You were suits and you bring goggles to. Ymca has swim teachers so they can help you learn to swim and teachers write things down so when the kids are done your teachers give your moms and dads the paper. It shows what your good at and what you need to Keep working on. I hope you like my review and I hope you go to Ymca some day.H.B,
Worst camp ever!!! - by 8 y.o. boys opinion. He was done with the camp the very 1st day of the sport camp and refused to go back the rest of the week. I had to find alternative sitter for the rest of the week and management was awfully slow responding and managing the issue. By the time I heard back from the management ( 2-3 weeks later) they didnt remember the particulars and pretended everything went as it should have been. They refused to refund not even the portion of the $260 check or provide a credit. Horrible customer care, awful quality - no one cares what your child is doing there! I do not recommend it to anyone!
Great place, with flexible timing.
Dirty.. can they let the steam room at men section untill 9:30pm at least we dont gey discount when it comes to monthly payment tje turn the steam room 9pm close ymca at 10pm dont understand staff rushing to go home hellooo you get paid until 10pm not 9pm
Super good hot steam room . Dry sauna doesnt feel hot enuf .
Its SO FREAKIN FUN And Lots Of SPACE
To be honest its not a great place because its not too big there is not much room to hang out, I reccomend goung to pewaukee lake instead if you are interested in a swim.
This used to be a good YMCA, but since being sold off to the Waukesha YMCA, a complete NEGATIVE change in attitude. The management philosophy of the Waukesha YMCA appears to be that the Members exist for the convenience of the YMCA. If a member doesnt like the YMCA closing early or renting out parts of the facility to outside groups and depriving members of usage, then members are told, If you dont like it here, why dont you leave? Former Metropolitan YMCA members are treated like dirt when they try to use any of the Waukesha YMCA facilities. Lots of young families join the YMCA for kids programs, but there is an extra charge for everything. After 35 years of YMCA membership in the greater Milwaukee area, I left this YMCA after six months and joined a non-YMCA health club. Nearly the same cost, but better & cleaner facilities, better hours of operation, and much better management attitude towards members.
Good people and atmosphere. Needs more free-weights
Love the Y been going there for 35 years.
Great place with great poolsLots of equipment and parking
Friendly, new lockers and shower rooms, heated small pool. I aM thankful for every day I am able to be there. Bright energetic atmosphere.
Not a bad club, I just wish they gave out towels.
Dont know why this place is called the Ymca this place does not reflect the Ymca mission, very unfriendly and unwelcoming .Wont hasitat to turn away dues paying members for any small reason. When you show up at the Ymca they think of reasons not to let members enter.Would not suggest going to this Ymca if you dont want your day ruined. This place operates more like a exclusive country club than a Ymca!
What a disappointment! Went to this location to use facilities as we were here for basketball tournament and had free time. Wouldnt allow us to use facilities without cards. Wouldnt allow our ymca to call and verify like all other cities we have visited have. Director of our ymca emailed me our membership information with pics and everything and still turned us away
Gym is crowded or unavailable. Pool schedule provides little time for open swim in the large pool and poor lap access.
Great staff, they are just like family
Love this gym... nice ppl
The receptionist has no people skills whatsoever, she act like she doesnt have a clue to any questions asked. Very POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!
Its a great place to workout and hangout
Diverse staff & clientele
Atmosphere hostile need better customer service
Great place, I miss it tremendously!
Wish the gym hours werent so limited because of kid camps etc.. Whenever I call the front desk, it seems that the gym is never open to use.
Clean but staff too busy chatting with each other to direct members where to go
Been member for ten + years with three boys theres no better place for the family swimming, basketball ext.
Good family place
Great location.
Nice group classes
Very poor free weight selection and setup since remodel; Most weights are in a crowded old racket ball court.
Always renovating to keep up with the competition
