Luz was my instructor for an online ballet class this past week. I usually prefer in-person classes because I feel like I get more out of them, but due to the pandemic, I’ve been working out with workout videos and remote classes. Luz could not have made the experience more productive and fun! She was engaging, positive, and personable. I got such a great workout and I had an absolute blast! I highly recommend her classes to anyone and EVERYONE!
Searching for an engaging and challenging online workout (considering the pandemic) this barre studio as exceeded all expectations. These Instructors encourage proper form, motivate your movements and keep me coming back for more! The studio offers multiple classes throughout the day and a large video library. You will get a rewarding workout regardless of how small your space is!
I have been doing the virtual classes from home. This team has truly helped me grow and develop during this time. The team has been very encouraging, which is always appreciated during an at home workout. Even though we are working through zoom, the enthusiasm and excitement of the instructors is so motivating and helpful!! I am very grateful to have found this adorable studio!!! Definitely give it a try!!
I started going to Bar classes after my back surgeon told me I needed to strengthen my core or I will always have lower back problems. I have been diligently going to Bar Method classes for 8 months now. I have never been more stronger or flexible in my life. No more toothpick arms! The teachers are well trained and they make hands on adjustments so you do not hurt yourself. Bar classes have made a tremendous impact on my life. I am hooked!
I love every class at the Bar Method. The instructors are there to help and get you in the correct poses vs. other places I’ve been where the teachers are there to get their own workout in. It doesn’t seem like a real workout, but the next day it dose. There are a lot of adjustments and alternatives for those with weaker wrists (me), less strength in their core/arms (me again). Here they treat everyone with respect and attention wether you are a beginner (we all were a beginner at some time) or have been doing it for years.
I have been attending classes 3 days a week, for a little over a month now. I have to say that I am impressed with my progress and the way my body is changing and getting stronger.The classes are challenging EVERY time, which is important for maximum results, and the instructors are very helpful and care that you are doing your movements and positions correctly so you wont injure your joints.If I had a negative, it would be the cost. But they do offer discounts at times based on attendance.

I first purchased a trial membership over 2 years ago, and have found it the best fit! I have been a regular subscriber since. I have chronic pain and need to exercise to keep it at bay and to stay flexible. The types of exercises used are great for this purpose. But more important, the training of the instructors is top notch; they are consistent, kind and non-judgmental. I enjoy the predictability of the routine and the usually great music to accompany the class. The work is difficult enough that I dont get bored. I am a psychologist and am pretty certain this method was developed in consultation with a psychologist. The behavioral principles underlying the way we are treated are spot on. A nice welcome every time I walk in, and an assurance that the instructor will call me by name. Just enough pressure delivered with an accepting approach, in a low key manner, representing a range of difficulty levels.
Ive been to probably a dozen barre/workout studios and this is one of the best. The employees and instructors know you by name within a few classes. It makes the experience feel personal, especially when they cheer you on in class. It also helps because they can adjust your form while the class is in motion. They also always offer hands on adjustments, which really helps you perfect your moves. I am always shaking during class and I definitely feel challenged all the time. I leave knowing that my body is changing every class and Ive seen great results. The locker room, bathrooms and studios are always clean. The studio always has challenges, which is great because it motivates me to get to the bar!
I LOVE The Bar Method. I have been on a journey seeking the best possible workout and I finally found it! The instructors are knowledgeable, patient, and friendly. You dont need experience to begin this workout, and it never gets boring. If you need to be more challenged - you can always seek the instructors advise to make the position more challenging.
The instructors are wonderful and really care about the clients they teach. I even had the benefit of getting extra personalized modifications during my pregnancy. Love the low-impact and very intense workout!
I was in DC for work for 5 weeks and booked a 2 week unlimited pass for The Bar Method.I am so glad I did! I think I took over 10 classes! The method is GREAT, especially if you want to get a serious workout in but dont have all the time in the world!The instructors were amazing, without exception! I always felt welcome and looked forward to every single one of my classes!! They give you great feedback/corrections during classes and the fact that they count down for the end of each excercise is something I appreciate dearly! - makes you really leave it all out there!Cannot recommend this place enough, thank you!
LOVE going to this studio. All of the instructors are well-trained and really make sure youre doing the moves correctly. The space is gorgeous and clean, with a full locker room and showers. And the workout is fast-paced, but not so much that youre lost or confused like at some studios. Highly recommend - especially if this is your first time doing a barre workout.
The Bar Method classes have changed my body! Every muscle is strong and my posture has improved immensely. Ive been taking classes there for 1.75 years and addicted. Proper body alignment during class is paramount which is what I value greatly. Great community too. BEST teachers.
Love the North Potomac location! There is such a welcoming community of “bar babes” here! Love the workout and the instructors. I enjoy the new moves and workouts as well as the new class formats. The studio is clean and has area for sitting before or after class to chat.
Your body will def change after working out here. The instructors call everybody by name, pushing you to give your best and also making sure that all the exercising are done correctly. I love how they pay attention to posture. Great staff too.
One of the best and most unique workouts I’ve ever experienced. Been working out for years but this workout is a unique combination of stretch & deep muscle exercise that I’ve never been able to achieve with any other workout. The classes are low key and personal with superb instruction. I’ve only been to the Bethesda studio but all instructors there are terrific. I’ve taken the most classes from Gwendolyn & she’s awesome.
I have been coming to The Bar Method in Bethesda and I am hooked! I get a great workout and have not injured anything which is not my norm. Working out at TBM is a great part of my week.
I thought it was okay. I consider myself a workout junkie who has been to several barre classes in the past. I think I prefer PureBarre over everywhere else but this place was pretty nice. I by and large get the impression its a specific type of workout (aka I would only do it on my chill days) and I probably wouldnt be a regular here since its not really my style.That being said, I really did like the welcoming vibe of the instructor and the individual attention she placed on everyone in class. Some of the movements were pretty tough but at the end of the day I didnt feel like it did enough for me. Still a nice studio and good for folks who love barre. Thats just not me.
No workout in 30 years of consistent workouts has yielded more results for me than the bar method. It defines your arms with small yet powerful moves and elongates your muscles. The studio itself in North Potomac is beautiful with marble, wood and an attractive design. The teachers are wonderful and each one brings her own unique skill set to your class. Highly recommend you try it!
The Bar Method completely changed the way I view and approach working out. The technique is the perfect balance between challenging and doable at any level and you do see results. The consistency of the method is awesome - knowing you’ll get a similar workout at any studio you visit - but I fell in love with this particular set of studios because the teachers and community is so strong and welcoming. I absolutely love The Bar Method! It is an effective workout. All of the staff and instructors are so nice. I love that they make an effort to learn your name and make a lot of hands on adjustments during class!
Ive taken 10 classes so far and love this studio! Everyone is as nice as can be. The studio is clean and well-run. The classes are fun and challenging and go by quickly. I get a great work out every time. I love carving out me time every week and feel happier and stronger for doing so.
This is the best workout I have ever done and is perfect for building strength, flexibility and toning. No matter how many times I go, I am sore after each workout. The instructors are amazing and it is a wonderful community of women. I can see my body changing as a result of the workouts. I would highly recommend this to any woman looking for a challenging exercise routine that is fun and gets results.
I have been taking classes at Bar Method (DC) for about 18 months. First, you need to understand that I am not an exercise person, and I am CERTAINLY not a group exercise person. But several friends convinced me to give it a shot, and I was hooked! Since I started, Ive taken classes at several barre franchises but always come back to Bar Method. The instructors in DC are fantastic - always supportive and encouraging, while still making sure youre safe and working your hardest. The owner of DC/Bethesda/North Potomac is always friendly and encouraging as well. The studio is always clean, supplied with the necessities for an after-class freshen-up, and just a great environment to be in!

Ive been going to Bar Method for a few (4?) years and have taken well over 500 classes now. It doesnt get boring or repetitive!! They change the routine and playlist for each class and you can opt to take different types of classes, too. Not to mention that this is a FANTASTIC workout: full body, low impact, and the results are amazing. Icing on the cake? The teachers and studio staff are wonderful, making every class a great experience.
Bar method is the best exercise program that I have ever taken so far. Before I met Bar Method, I had taken various types of exercise programs. None of these was suitable for me. However, Bar Method has everything that I need for my body. Strongly recommend Bar Method!!
Best exercise ever in a spa like studio. Using your own body weight with a few props to tone your body, lengthening and strengthening your muscles. Highly trained instructors know you by name from your first visit on and correct your posture constantly so you’re getting the best out of the each exercise. Gotta warn you though. It’s addictive.
As someone who has tried just about every kind of workout, this is by far my favorite. workout is straight addictive. Where do I start? It get you toned, strong as hell, and you don’t feel like you were run over by a truck the next day. It’s no impact, and on these 35-year-old weary bones, and nine months pregnant, that’s even better. Seven months pregnant, I could still do several pull ups, not because I have been practicing, but because Bar Method keeps you strong. I love how they are focused on form and the music doesn’t blast your brain out, so it ends up being almost meditative. It’s my favorite part of the day. And maybe I’m 36.
I have taken classes at the DC location for 4+ years now. The classes are easy to register for, the times are convenient, the studio is clean and the teachers are great. The classes are as challenging as you make them for yourself, although the teachers are great to challenge to you to achieve higher levels of strength and endurance. Its a great workout, youll feel stronger and your muscles will be more defined (hello gorgeous sinewy arms!)!! I highly recommend.
I love Bar Method! The instructors take the time to push me while understanding my personal needs (and various injuries). One week of regular classes and I feel leaner and stronger. After a month my clothes fit better. I feel better and happier the more often I go - cant recommend it enough! :-)
18 months and I’ve had a complete body transformation here!You’ll find motivating instructors, powerfully charged and effective workout, clean and bright studio... all working to strengthen, lean and tone your body.Time flies and you will be surprised by how much you’re working your body in such a short burst of 60 minutes.I hate working out, but the Bar Method makes it easy and now I’m hooked!Calves, thighs, bootie, back, biceps, triceps, lower and upper abs... I swear I would never work out every muscle in my body like this by myself at the gym and to do it all under 60 minutes!Oh, and I have bad knees, and this place is good for my body with stretching, proper warm up techniques, and alignment. Just come to the Bar Method!
The Bar Method is the only fitness routine I’ve found that actually works for me. I’m not very athletic or strong, but that’s starting to change since I’ve been going to Bar Method DC. I’m so happy I found this studio, through a friend’s recommendation - I got hooked after trying the govt shutdown special they had for new students in Jan 2019. Boutique fitness studios can be so intimidating for fitness newbies like me, but the staff and instructors here are so friendly, encouraging, and helpful, which means a lot. I really appreciate that they put such an emphasis on safe, efficient form so I don’t hurt myself. I used to hate working out, and therefore, rarely did it. Now going to Bar Method is one of the highlights of my day and the more I go, the more I’m motivated. I can’t say enough great things!
I absolutely love The Bar Method-DC! Ive been going there for 4 years now. Its very different from any exercise class that I have taken in the past. I am stronger and more fit than Ive ever been. The classes are not easy but the rewards are well worth it!
Started Bar in June and have stuck with it for almost a year now. The instructors are excellent. They give feedback whatever your level and do so without being condescending. The variety of routines makes going to classes interesting,too.
I love the Bar Method! The teachers are all good at giving adjustments and words of encouragement through class. The studio is nice, clean, and conveniently located. The classes give you the option to modify or challenge yourself and I feel like Ive gotten a great workout after each one!
The Bar Method North Potomac is the most complete and worthwhile workout. Each class involves virtually every muscle group and the results are remarkable after just one week of classes. The instructors are thoughtful, incredibly knowledgeable and go above and beyond to make every client succeed and feel confident.
I have to say this is my favorite exercise ever! It works out your whole body and at the same it is a fun workout. All the teachers are great and really take the time to make sure are doing the moves correctly. Finally found an excercise that I enjoy doing and that works all your muscles!
I have been going to the going to the Bethesda studio for 2 years now. Downtown, Bethesda and North Potomac are under same ownership. Bar Methods success in my mind is driven by the fact that it creates a virtuous loop - you pay top dollar for something (classes are not cheap!), therefore you attend more regularly, thereby seeing a positive effect which makes you want to commit to it longer. This works only when the place is well-run and the Bethesda studio certainly is. Kate runs a tight ship. I have never seen anything worn out, dirty or non-functioning. The place is inviting, instructors are well trained, schedules are maintained well and changes communicated effectively (primarily weather-related). They also do a good job of running the occasional programs to make you come in more often and earn this or that. People respond to incentives and while the prizes are small, the motivational quotient is big.
I took my first bar method class not realizing how much I would fall in love with it. I have been working out consistently for 3 years now, switching up my workouts every so often including lifting, cycling, and exercise apps. With the bar method, I no longer dread going to exercise like previous workouts. This is something I can see myself doing for years and years, and someday even becoming an instructor. I’m thankful for class times that work with my busy schedule, instructors that personalize my experience, and the variety of movements throughout class! Thanks Bar Method

I started taking classes at the Bar method in Bethesda 10 months ago. When I started I had no idea what I was getting into other than what was presented on the web site. I am an avid bicyclist but I havent been involved in a regular fitness program for about the last 25 years. This was my first foray into organized classes for fitness. The Bar method classes absolutely provide a complete, total body workout. They are never easy. The class instructors have all been outstanding. They provide encouragement, tips on technique, and hands on adjustments to ensure proper form is maintained. After the first week I realized how much I had neglected most muscle groups in my body. I had never undergone rigorous thigh, seat or flexibility work. My flexibility and balance were woefully inadequate. As I was almost always the only male in the class, I almost stopped after 1 month. But since the instructors were so very encouraging and since I could feel and see improvement, I continued. I am glad I did. I am almost 65 yrs old and exercise is critical to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Maintaining strength, flexibility, and balance is very important. I attend classes regularly and even though I am probably the least flexible person in class, I have improved immensely. I learned early on that classes never get easy because you keep challenging your own abilities and stamina. The other students are very welcoming and supportive. I highly recommend The Bar Method to anyone looking for a total body workout that will will push them to better health and fitness.
I am a client at Bar Method Seattle but visited Bar Method DC while on personal and work travel. The studio was clean, comfortable, and friendly. Liz, the instructor, was super welcoming and encouraging throughout a challenging class. I have been an avid Bar Methodist for almost 3 years and look forward to the next class each time.

Classes are challenging....but you see the results! Different teachers can be a bit short, but there are some nice ones! One downside is they only want you to have plastic AND clear water bottles, which limits options for reusable water bottles!

Not a well-run Bar Method location compared to those in SF. They overcrowded the classes, and the instructors werent very helpful in mitigating the issue (by maybe adjusting girls who were taking up too much space, which exacerbated the crowding of the other 2/3s of the room). Really, they just need to cut the permitted attendance by like 5 people. Unfortunate because its so close to my house :/ Ill have to try another DMV location, because I *love* Bar Method workouts.

After trying the deals and new member specials at most barre, Pilates, and spin studios in the DC area during my first 15 months in the city, I settled on a membership at Bar Method for a long term commitment. This is due to the high level of customer service (instructors learn every single clients name before class and generally remember your name when you return), amazing workout (you dont have to lift heavy weights to see the benefits of the arms section of warm up!), and amenities (it might just be dove and Pantene in the showers but I always feel pampered a fresh after a 6am class before heading to work). Instructors Catherine, Sarah B, Karlee, EOJ, and Erin have been some of my favorites/most frequented but if youre able to catch studio owner Kates class or Colleen and Luz from the Bethesda studio youre also in for a real treat!
Frankly the best thing that happened to me in DC. Kate and staff are amazing. It is not only a workout but a community too. And as far as a workout goes you will not be disappointed in results, trust me.

Just wanted to check out the location and if I had to go on my first impression, I wouldnt want to attend. The ladies at rhe front desk seemed a bit snobbish but, eventually loosened up. I have a gym membership and I take it at my gym.
