This place is wonderful! I’ve been all over DC trying to find a good barber, and that search is finally over. Wes did an EXCELLENT job and even was able to undo some of the damage from the last haircut I had at a different shop. Can’t recommend this place and barber enough!

Hate to leave a review like this. I got a cut today and asked for a simple cleanup and part. Before I could say anything, my barber cut through the parted area with a straight razor? Did not ask for a hard part, and the razor was used throughout the top of my hair. Have never seen this done. The result was unfortunately one of the worst, choppiness hair cuts I have had. At these prices, I am more surprised with the result. Will find another barber.

I had a great first-visit experience at the 14th Street location of Barber of Hells Bottom. I had read very positive reviews of their beard trimming skills, so on short notice, I was able to get an appointment with Chris to have him do an inaugural trim my 2 month-old beard. I couldnt have been more pleased with the beard trim and haircut that I received -- Chris took a great deal of time to explain the approach he was using to ensure that the beard would look great, and he did a great job. I was really pleased with the clean, stylish look that he created -- it exceeded my expectations! Chris is a great guy to get to know, and he does excellent work. I highly recommend Barber of Hells Bottom as a great place for a guy to go for terrific service, and I highly recommend Chris for anyone with a new beard who is looking for a professional to handle the initial trim and style.

John Leach did a fantastic job! Some places around DC feel rushed (because they are) and impersonal. I did not have any such experience at Hells Bottom. John took his time, communicated with me, and ensured that things looked right at many junctures throughout the process.I would highly recommend trying these folks out if youre looking for a good cut in DC.

Not low income apartment

Only giving 1 star because I cant give zero. Had a scheduled appointment for 11am. Called ahead to say I would be late by 10 min. Front desk told me I had a 15 min grace period so I should be good. I spend $30 for an uber out to the shop, I arrive before the 15 min grace period and Im told they can no longer do my hair cut and cant reschedule for a week.Zero remorse and zero interest in gaining new business. They also lost the person who gave me the referral once I told them how they treated me.For your money, much better spent elsewhere

I love Mike. Does a great job with my hair. They make me feel welcome even though Im like the anti hipster. The place isnt pretentious. Mike offers suggestions on style that have been on point. After a cut Ive had women, men, and even a few squirrels follow me home. Literally (70% literal).

Expensive, but in DC you have to pay for it to be good. I spent 40 bucks (before tip) elsewhere and was very disappointed. My barber here knows his stuff and consistently provides great haircuts. The ambiance and staff are A+. Only downside is the cost and thats just how it is in this town.

I received a very good haircut from Carla. She was exceptionally friendly and attentive.If it wasnt for the quality of my barber I probably would have awarded three stars. The service was very expensive. I wont go into detail here (one mans price may seem like a bargain to another) because Im not from DC and dont have a good reference for comparison. I would confirm the price before you book an appointment.Also, I dont understand why they dont have an online reservation system. They need to add that feature.

This is the worst customer service I have ever received. I had an appointment scheduled at 10 a.m. I drove from Virginia and there was traffic that I was 11 minutes late. Then I didnt know that there was no parking around the shop so it took me about 10 minutes to find a parking. When I was walking to the shop I received a call from the barbershop telling me that I needed to reschedule my appointment because I was late. I explained the reason why I was late and still seem like they didnt wanted to work with me and see me right away because they had an appointment at 1045. I believe customer service is very important for anyone to grow. This is ridiculous knowing that it was my first time they could have taken good care of me and try to squeeze me in into their schedule knowing my reason. The receptionist was very rude and unprofessional. This is the worst experience ever and I do not recommend anyone to come to this place. I never take the time to write a bad review because its not worth it but this one I needed to write it down.

Great place with very talented people, but had to doc a few stars for unprofessionalism of some of the staff. The receptionist recorded the wrong day for my appointment (a day earlier), and when she called to confirm whether or not I was coming in, she told me that I could go ahead and come in and still get my beard trimmed but they wouldn’t have time to do my hair cut. So I dropped what I was doing and went in. Adrian, the barber I was scheduled with, was angry with me (the customer) for coming in expecting to have my beard trimmed after his own scheduler told me to come in. I wasn’t event upset, but he was upset with me for some bizarre reason. To top it off, I didn’t even get an apology from the receptionist. Also, making this situation even more like something out of the Twilight Zone, Adrian banned me (the customer who was inconvenienced) from being scheduled with him ever again. Adrian is a great barber, but his interpersonal skills suck. It’s not a huge deal because there’s plenty of talented barbers in there, but now it’ll be awkward every time I go in there to get my haircut while he’s there working, which flies in the face of this company’s intention of making a haircut a relaxing experience for their patrons. Not me obviously. Thanks Adrian.

Most important factor -- The haircut looks amazing. It is a bit pricey, however, the atmosphere is unique and the quality of the work is unparalleled. I can count on one hand the number of people Ive let cut my hair and Wes is the best so far.

I first came here about 6 months ago and was referred by a friend to go see Adam Calderone at BOHB and I must say Adam is hands down the best barber I have ever been to. I truly will never go anywhere else because I get such an amazing hair cut/style from one talented man !

Dont let the pricing, hip decour, and shiny new setup fool you - while they have the look of a high end barber they dont have the talent to match. I am more than willing to pay up for talent but this place dissapointed majorly on my first visit. I had a stylist named Julie (or Julia ... someone not on the website) who was extremely persobable and professional but had absolutely no clue how to do what I asked for. I wanted a fade (1 to 1.5) with a razor part, squared off in the back. What I got was a shaved head (looks like zero but she claims is all 1) with absolutely no fade, a razor part, and a natural back. The style of haircut I ended up with was something that I could have got from any beauty school student, apprentice, or even my wife using clippers. When you come into a place that bills itself as a real barbershop and has quotes reminiscing about the art of barbering, and you pay a premium price, you should be comfortable that the stylist you get can handle your request or will at least be honest enough to let you know they cant handle it and refer you to another stylist. This was a huge disappointment! Again, I would like to reiterate that the staff was all very friendly and the shop was spotless and as hip as you would expect but seriously.... I walked out with the worst haircut I have ever got and I definitely paid a premium for it. Beware and definitely talk to your stylist, show them pictures, and make sure they know what a fade is or at least what you consider a fade to be (my definition is based on whay I routinely got at Decatur and Sons and Franks Chop Shop). Good luck!
