There was one obstacle that almost stopped us ... a tree nearly completely across the water with just a small section where we were able to drag ourselves across. We also nearly made it to West Neck road but headed back about halfway after crossing Indian River road. It was a very nice paddle.

I do not recommend going in May. I dont know about the rest of the year, but May needs to be a hard pass. The water is great and all, and there are turtles everywhere which is cool, but you know what else is everywhere....snakes. And they do not care about your life. I felt like Samuel L. Jackson trying to get the hell up out of there. I mean one snake is like okay, theres a snake, lets avoid that. But three snakes are three too many. And they are smart. One of them locked eyes with me and I swear was plotting how you get on my board. Other people seemed happy paddling about, but you know, I prefer life. My husband says maybe its just an early May thing, but I think its a just dont go thing.

Launched from Dozier Bridge and headed south. Couple spots that are starting to get clogged up with debris, but managed to get past and land a nice 20 LMB about 2.5 miles from the launch.

Good paddle with mid level water. I have paddled here for years all seasons. Sometimes deadfalls make damns, but usually can get by. Getting under the new piping is much harder. Maybe the city will put in a second launch on the other side of the utility. 😎
