This barber shop is great. Sebastian seems like a really good guy with loads of experience cutting hair. Im usually pretty picky with haircuts. I have no complaints. He seemed to know exactly the hair style I wanted. I recommend this barber shop. Ill definitely continue to be a customer here.

I looked up a barber online, on the high side $25 + beard + tip....Cash only, I took my time to take out Cash. Then find parking in this jammed place, and find this small business.Only to walk up 45 min before closing (11-7) and doors are closed. I would suggest to changing your business hours on your sign to read clearly. (also online searches like Google etc.,)By APPOINTMENT ONLYAvailabilityMonday 2 p.m. - 7 p.m.Tue - Fri 11 a.m. - 7 p.m.Sat 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.Please fix! Cant leave a review without a rating, 3 stars for the inconvenience. Had I known by appointment only it would have saved me a lot of time. I was looking forward to a cut from here.

Sebastian was great! Attention to detail was unmatched by any barber I’ve ever been to. He is skilled at his craft and skilled at being a hardworking relatable blue collar man. If you’re a gentleman who values a good barber, and a good whiskey just steps away from a Great haircut Black Steel is the place for you. Sit down and receive a once lost art in the form of clippers scissors and pomade and after you’re done have a beer and consider the day a success.

Review after first time:Sebastian is the man! All around 10/10 experience. After having gone back several times:Sebastian is an excellent barber. However, the lack of professionalism is astounding and I am forced to go find a different guy. After him being 45 min late (with zero courtesy text or call) on my second appointment, he promised it would never happen again. Then it happened the next time (20 min this time). I let it slide. Then I came for a cut on 10/11. Scheduled and confirmed for 2pm.I texted him at 1:45 and said hey man Ill be in the lounge getting work done. Just text when youre ready and Ill be there in 60 seconds. Knowing hed probably be late.I show at 1:40 and work outside where I can see into his studio. He of course is running about 30 min behind. Again, no courtesy text. When he finished with his client I watch him get up, check his phone, and put it back down.5 min later I get up and go in thinking maybe I didnt get his text. Nope. Hes cutting another guys hair.Zero common courtesy. Zero professionalism.Unfortunately Ill be moving along to a different barber. If youre at all keen on keeping your schedule and wanting someone that will honor and respect your time...move on.If you dont mind being pushed around like your time is worth nothing, go ahead and make the appointment.

Hes very professional and cool. He takes his time cutting your hair and keeps asking along the way if everything is the length you need.He uses razors and scissors. If youre a bearded man like me, hes the person to go to for a trim, shaping or length adjustment.Overall hes great, loves his profession and knows what hes doing.

Sabastian was great. I like the convenience to make appointment using SMS. I like his Old Western mixed with modern touches decoration. Very manly. Haircut was great at an efficient speed. Price is a bit on a high side ($25 excluding tip) but I think it is worth it. The venue is located inside the Tustin District building. And I LOVE THE NAME : Black Steel !!!

First off, Id like to note that the barber, Sebastian, seems like a nice gentleman and knows what hes doing. I often support small businesses when I can and consequently found myself at Black Steel after reading positive reviews. Black Steel is a small one man shop in Union Market.*In brief, this was the worst hair cut experience Ive ever been through. It pains me to write this as I hardly sound off on negative experiences but itd be a disservice to other patrons not to share my review. Ill try to be as objective as possible - simply tell it as it was. Please follow along below:1. I showed up for my appointment at 4:00PM on a Tuesday afternoon. Sebastian wasnt there, so I just took a seat outside. By around 4:05PM Sebastian walked in with a Moscow Mule in a bronze tin in hand from the bar right outside. I didnt see this as a problem at all. Having a drink on an early evening isnt a crime. However, once I sat down on the barbers chair, the smell of alcohol in his breath was unmistakeable. At that moment I began to question whether or not this was Sebastians first drink. The smell turned to a reek. I made a joke about having close access to the bar and hoped for the best. With that mental hesitation, I should have excused myself and left. At best, drinking alcohol on the job, no matter the level of consumption, particularly when youre expecting attention to detail, is unprofessional.2. Sebastian then asked me how Id like my hair cut. I told him I usually go with a 2 on the sides and scissors on top. He said OK and quickly got to work on the sides. Quick may be an understatement as he was done cutting the sides within a minute or two. The process seemed relatively rushed, but again it was just my sides. He then proceed to work on the top. To my surprise, he pulled out his sheers and quickly began hacking away. No more than five minutes later, he appeared finished and asked if the length was good. I was surprised that he had finished and asked him if he could go shorter and perhaps use scissors. He explained to me that it made no sense to use scissors on my hair (every barber Ive ever worked with used scissors), and proceeded to cut my hair a bit shorter with the sheers, again in a seemingly random fashion. At some points during this process, his eyes would flutter and remind me of that Moscow Mule in the bronze tin he kept reaching for.3. Youre all set. As soon as Sebastian finished with the sheers, that was it. He said, Youre all set, and proceeded to grab my vest. Shocked, yet I politely got up.a. He didnt take a minute to put a brush in my hair.b. He didnt take a minute to blow dry any left over hair.c. He didnt ask I wanted to use product to style my hair, even though he had everything to use within reach.d. He didnt cut my side burns or offer to do so.e. He didnt at any time put water in my hair to help style, cut, or rinse out any left over hair.f. He didnt show me how the back of my hair looked.g. Youre all set. Thats it. Done.I got up with disheveled hair, paid Sebastian the cash he requested, and left without leaving a tip for the first time Ive ever sat for a cut.Again, I think Sebastian is a good guy. Im just stunned at the entire experience. Ive been to standard barbers, eighteen eight, chains like Floyds and Supercuts, places around the States, barbers in other countries - this is without a doubt the worst experience Ive ever had in a barbers chair.Perhaps this was a rough day or a one off, so Im not going to say, Go somewhere else! But as a fellow patron, I just want you to be aware of my experience. And for Sebastian, I hope you take a bit of perspective from my review.
