Bed bugs, no good food, no cold water due to no longer being considered a cooling station. If you have absolutely no place to go, the Salvation Army Center for Hope is the last place you would want to go. You can only have one small bag, and yes, if its your first time staying there, theyll give you 48 hours to downsize to one bag that can only fit in a plastic bin about the size of a bookbag or small gym bag. Anything else, will not fit in the plastic bin. There are no private shower stalls. Check-in for non-program members is from 5:30pm-7:30pm, M-Sun. Please be aware that wake up time is also 5:00am M-F, and 6:00am on the weekends. There are family rooms available if you are married and/or have children. If you have children and have a significant other but not married, that individual will have to stay with the children while the significant other will have to stay in the designated general population area. It will be with the men or women, whichever applies to your gender. Breakfast is very minimal, lunch is pretty decent and dinner is just an expired sandwich from QuikTrip. The place is known for having bed bugs very badly.

We had got robbed from another area from another state and I are on our way were going to this place the Salvation Army to get something to eat at least I try to be on our way so we can get our destination and apparently the security there are very rude this Salvation Army is the worst homeless place that I ever been to they do not help people like they should is it the disgrace that they were are called The Salvation Army no wonder why theres so many people in need here I am glad that I am back home I think this place should get shut down and they should have a homeless shelter to where they can actually help the people and not turn people away specially when people are from out-of-state

Salvation army is okay if youre desperate for a place to stay, they do have a bed bug problem that needs to be addressed. There are also other changes that need to be made in the rules and regulations. They will not supply you a pillow and you are not supposed to bring your own. You have to be out by around 7:15 to 7:30 in the morning even if its a Sunday or holiday with no buses running.

The staff here cares and are fantastic. Its not easy with a very limited staff and funding to help people from all walks of life. However, from what I observed they give there all. I asked for directions when I got off the greyhound and the security officer was very informative. Thanks!

If they like you a lot, then theyll test your character to see if youre worth putting more resources into, with the end goal being self sustainability. The methods they use are well thought out and executed, not to mention they seem to be slightly custom tailored to each person. The $10 per night fee is only issued to clients that have not put forth the effort to work a case management plan that is specially formulated to get them back on their feet. Im thankful this place exists, furthermore I believe that staying a few nights here would be extremely educational and even healthy for everyone. I will end with the two most important observations about this place, both staff and clients will test your character (for different reasons). And most importantly an extended stay at this location will absolutely change your default personality, how it changes is based on how you receive the experience. Thanks for everything Salvation Army, I only wish that everyone you touched turned to gold.

Its very unkind how Salvation Army puts the homeless people who stay in their shelter out at 7 a.m, 7 days a week, even when the weather is bad and many people, as they know, dont have cars or money -- but they do so anyway. They collect money from bell ringers, while they do this, which is unkind and not helpful to people. Additionally, they strip the beds every morning, giving people an unwelcome back attitude. What they need to do is leave the sheets on the bed and make people feel welcome back and wash peoples clothes overnight. Many people come with dirty clothes and have to continue wearing them for a long time because they cant afford to do laundry and the Day Center next door only does a few loads a day and cant do everyones wash. The food they serve is not necessarily healthy or enough. They save the good food for only a certain group of people. Most of the homeless dont get good meals, with meat or eggs, at Salvation Army -- not because they dont have it to give -- but because they only give the good food to certain small group people.People have to take everything they own with them when they leave in the mornings, and when people arent successful while theyre in the shelter, Salvation Army staff acts like they arent helping themselves. No one helps themselves being treated like this. Thats why many arent successful and dont help themselves. This building is big enough to let people leave their things in there and to even let people stay in during the day when the weather is bad and/or on Sundays. The Day Center next door gets over-crowded and frequently there arent enough seats for e everyone who comes.

Some of the employees are jerks. Too many tweakers. Also it is a Christian organization, but the goal should be to help you get off the street. Not also forcing their religion on you in order to be a part of the process.

Br
Review №24

This local organization is very poorly run. Its very sad to see. Most of the meals that are served here have beans as the main source of protein. Clients almost never get actual meat served except for Thanksgiving and Christmas. The meal portion size isnt adequate enough for most people to maintain a normal body weight. They rarely have any fruit served and typically, the vegetable served is corn. If bread is served, it will be in the form of a hotdog bun. The Tulsa Health Department wouldnt allow any restaurant to operate under these type of cleanliness conditions. The majority of the staff thats employed here are often rude and have no desire to actually help the people who stay there. The rules of the shelter can change from day to day. There arent many positive things about the staff that are employed there. The case managers arent college degree qualified to assist clients. Most simply worked themselves out of the same homeless situation that the current clients are in.Showering isnt a requirement to stay here. Needless to say, there is a major problem with bed bugs. The odors coming from the sleeping quarters is enough to either make you pass out or vomit. The restrooms are in unimaginably poor conditions. The showers are filled with black mold and arent cleaned on a daily basis. Many of the toilets simply wont flush properly, so you have many health concerns to contend with. The bunk beds are extremely squeaky and uncomfortable. They will not let you use a pillow and the blankets they offer are very thin. Many people are forced to sleep on the tiled floor when there are open bunk beds available for use.Theft is a severe problem here. This holds true even for the bags that you are required to check in and are kept and stored behind a locked door for the evening. The majority of the security cameras arent in working order and if they do work, they will not investigate any theft by reviewing the cameras. They simply dont care about the people who are forced to stay there, regardless of their circumstances. At the National level, this is wonderful organization and I believe that as a whole, they truly want to help people. This location isnt among that group and dont share the ideals of the organization as a whole.

Nice place, decent food but the staff band you without reason. Most members are doing drugs and the casemanagers are impossible to reach or are never there when you need them. Bed bugs and mold are horrible here. Youd be better off staying at the Tulsa Day Center where youll get the help you need and deserve!

The Salvation Army has been a true blessing to our family several times through out the years. We have never stayed in the shelter there but when my children were small we received help several times through the Angel Tree program and also have received help paying utility bills several times. The Salvation Army is always the place we begin when we need help of any kind. Kathy in family services has been particularly helpful.I am in disbelief at the negative reviews ; these people are doing the best they can for as many as they can. Poverty and homelessness are a huge problem in Tulsa; people need to realize that they are not the only ones in need and that the Salvation Army is helping as many people as possible.

Horrendously ran. All the good folks working here have either left or been fired. No towels or blankets provided any longer. I had to return after 4 months and was told I had to pay a $10 fee nightly until I talked to my case worker, which was gone until next week and NO ONE WILL HANDLE HER CLIENTS UNTIL SHE RETURNS. I had $26, spent $10 Monday and Tuesday now I am sleeping outside until she returns. Seems people here are more interested in punching a clock than actually helping homeless with no options.

Volunteered here and I Have definitely seen homeless care that is much better. I’ve worked with all types of underpriedged people over the years and nothing is superb here. Given the location it’s better than nothing. Just some unfriendly staff who seem like they really don’t want to be there helping. Kind of sad.Homeless people don’t want to be homeless and they deserve more than this especially if the company has the means to provide it. Just not a lot of care. Sad

I have suffered on and off homelessness in Tulsa for years...the Salvation Army is a blessing, but there are major problems at the homeless shelter. Very rude, indifferent and cold staff, very difficult to see a case manager (can take weeks to get an appointment), food poisoning is common, meager portions for meals, rampant bed bugs, theft, violence and filthy living conditions has made the Salvation Army a place to avoid. I sometimes think the Salvation Army intentionally makes life a living hell in the shelter to keep the number of people staying there to a minimum. ..if thats their intention..they are doing a very good job.All the donations the Salvation Army receives from Tulsans are sold or used elsewhere, becomes the homeless never see any of it.

Staff are unfriendly and rude plus the refused to help me with payment broke there promise to help when the original agreement they were supposed to have $125 agreement to my account pledged payment was they only called the electric company to get information on my account wasted my time and trip on 3 hour walk to downtown Tulsa they expected me to come up $47.97 first before they can help me! It wasnt the original agreement they are supposed to help us! How in the hell do I come up with $47.97 when I dont know anyone here got turned down by financial loan companies! I will never go back to this place ever again next time I need some help! They can go to hell and kiss my ass!

Its a place to stay, but god is it aweful. I wouldnt wish the food for general population on anyone. The hours u have to wake up are obscenely early! 5:30 am regardless of illnesses or no. Regardless if u have just gotten off work or no. They tell u sleep at the day center. They have mats no. No. They do most certainly not. I am beyond frustrated, hungry, exhausted, etc. U want to know why most homeless dont work? The lack of nutrients,or good decent food, sleep, and increased stress. Thats why. Thats also why tempers are so volitile around the day center. Or the sally.

Ive had food poisoning and now I just dont eat anything the social workers are slow and no help what so ever! Guys can walk around with their hands in their pants jerking off and no one says a damn thing! They have more police and security around here than in a court house! They have people that live here on long term situations that can come and go as they please but Im a prisoner after 7pm every day, so I asked a staff member how good desent people down on their luck can go from people the staff would run to get away from can turn it to prisoners as of 7pm! Im still waiting for an answer and Im sure I will be waiting a very long time!!So please if you find yourself in the situation of needing a place to stay I beg of you to please try and find a better place!
