I took my Kia in for service. Everyone at Tuffy could not have been more professional, gave great service. The days of the past, where you had to wait 25 minutes after they pulled your car in, to get service are over. I got in right away and the Auto Technician began working on my car and had it fixed within 25 minutes. They have good Techs, that waste not time, they get right to work. Everyone was friendly. In town on vacation with a car full of kids and my exhaust broke. It was a rain day in Traverse City and were heading to the indoor water park. It was a huge bummer and we thought the day was ruined. We pulled up to Tuffy with no notice and they had us back on the road within 30 minutes!!!!! Amazing service. Can’t say enough about how great they were. My kids had a great day because of them. Took my vehicle in guys were very respectful, but quoted me 1200$ to replace a coil and spark plug tried to tell me it would take over two hours to get to it and that the coil cost 500$. Went to auto zone bought the coil and spark plug for 75$ and changed it my self in 30minutes.

Need great service same day? In town visiting family and our van died on a Sunday. Had it towed Monday morning and in 30 minutes with no appt had it racked and bad starter. I 100% understand that getting service done on a Saturday without an appointment is a total flip of the coin as to how long one will have to wait. I happened to go on a less busy Saturday, but not having to wait long was just icing on the cake. The gentlemen who worked there were professional, friendly, knowledgeable and displayed good old common sense. They were kind and acknowledged my young boys who had no choice but to be in tow with me for such a fun errand. If I ever need service again, I know where to go.

Told me my truck needed a new engine, got two more mechanics to look at it, needed a tune up. Lied about results of a compression check I never even saw them do (which I was of course charged for) my truck runs perfect now, definitely didnt need a new engine.

I went here to check on a noise I heard in my front tire. Turned out that my lower control arm and ball joints needed to be replaced $828.00.As they bring my car out they tell when they took it for a test drive my transmission was a little hesitant. Which I had no issues with my transmission driving it in! My transmission now is sputtering. I called them back to tell them the issue. I was driving it back to them. They said were closed theres nothing we could do! Now I have to get my car towed back home....3 hours from this location!

Tried to get a used car I was looking at buying inspected here. Very poor quality inspection that was not done when it was scheduled to be completed, and they did not check the check engine light or notice that a tire was flat. Makes me wonder what was even inspected as the notes given to me werent specific at all underside is rustyoil leaking from somewhere... I would not recommend using this place.9/4/20 UPDATE: I have still not been contacted by the owner, and have had to replace 5 different parts on my vehicle that could have been seen on inspection.

Cannot say enough great things about this place. I took my car to another exhaust shop because I had a pretty bad leak, and they wanted over $1000 for new catalytic converter’s We’re full of cracks and unsalable. I asked if they could be welded and was told I needed to buy an entire new exhaust system. When I took it to this Tuffy shop, I was given I was given various options on how I could fix the leak, none of which involves needing to replace an entire system. Ended up having them weld the cracks for a grand total of $32 and fixed the leak 99.9% of the way. Will definitely be taking my car here in the future.

Absolutely absurd prices, straw away if you dont have at least $400 to pay thIs outfit. Ive been there 3 times and each time the guys that did the work were trainees. Thought I was paying for professional work but no, were inexperienced workers. No complaints about the work, but then I cant crawl under my vehicles.

Had my exhaust system fixed by tuffy, I was unable to make it to their shop by the time it closed so I payed over the phone and I asked for them to leave my vehicle outside with the keys in it. I went to pick up my car after they told me it was done and it was inside their locked shop with no way of contacting anyone. The next day I called to ask why my car was not outside like i asked and all they had to say was they forgot. Very irresponsible to forget and leave me without a car for another day. Would not reccomend Tuffy, poor customer service.Edit: The work they performed was quality, just poor customer service.

Call the day before to get a price quote on my jeep Cherokee to get a muffler taken off they told me it was gonna be $240 when I get there and they look at it the price automatically doubles plus some to $550 on top of it very poorly organized. Would highly recommend going somewhere else

The group had to do extensive brake work on my sons car the Saturday after Thanksgiving. They were very accommodating and did a great job in a very timely fashion. I would not hesitate using them again.

2p on a Saturday, my brake line ruptures and Im 3 hours from home. Thinking my weekend just turned into a long weekend, I looked up Tuffy who was open till 4p. They got me in, fixed and on my way safely by 3:30p. They were extremely friendly, nice, honest, and fair. So nice to find good people away from home to help you out!

Service was terrible!! I got in and I was helped right away and everything was good. We got going and they were giving me a free inspection to double check on what was wrong. I went in to them just wanting an alignment done. After the inspection they came out with over $2000 worth of issues that were all pressing and needed to be fixed. I told them i just wanted my vehicle to be able to drive and they said okay. After about ten minutes the man pulled me into the dock area and informed me my car broke all on its own as they were pulling it out of the dock. After seeing in my car was not totally broke and would not even drive a little bit. All claiming it just happened on its own, the man told me it was a blessing in disguise that it happened while my vehicle was there and not while I was driving. Because my car was totally broke, axles, wheel bares etc they had to work on so it could leave the shop 900 dollars later, all claiming it just happened...

I think this place is underrated, I was in and out with a new exhaust system in just over an hour. I was impressed with the service and friendliness. The guy that checked me in answered all my questions and actually helped me save some money. Tuffy is definitely my new goto tire and muffler specialists.

Master brake cylinder went out on my RV 1st day of vacation. No one in town would look at it or said a week out to fix. These guys said bring it in (I was only a fewblocks away). They looked at it, ordered parts, and back on the road next morning. Outstanding service! Highly recommend!Thanks Mike and the mechanics who did the job, very courteous and professional!

Great place to take your vehicle to be repaired. They repair or replace brake lines, water pumps do wheel alignment. The people here are friendly and knowledgeable. Bring your vehicle in for repairs for a reasonable price for quality workmanship.

My wife took our Honda Accord in to get inspected due to a weird sound while she was driving. Turned out to be a wheel bearing assembly. I was happy they found the problem but they wouldn’t give my wife the part number after she asked for it. They wanted to charge 290 for the part which I bought from rock auto for 70 bucks. I’ve Brought my cars to them before but I thought the price this time was a little outrageous.

Taken our cars here for several years never had any issues. Repairs done fast and price is of norm for auto repairs. Staff is friendly. Although waiting area is very small they do offer coffee and free wifi while you wait.

After about a month of increased muffler rattle, noticed muffler dangling on one of its supports, cattywampus, and investigated underneath to discover it completed separated from the exhaust pipe. God bless Michigans salted roads. Drove to a competing store at opening 8am only to be turned away, We cant even give you an estimate until late this afternoon. Drove by Tuffy and pulled in on a whim. They, too, were down a couple of mechanics and overbooked, but the owner offered to drive me to work and keep the car there for the estimate. They called me at work to describe a $140 repair (a $90 part and $50 in labor). This was a huge relief in that the muffler itself costs $470 and I figured I was likely going to need a replacement. The owner then picked me up from work and I paid for the work and retrieved my car. Excellent customer service. Repair focused rather than bill-maximization. Excellent repair. Couldnt be more pleased.

ZERO STARS!! Stay far away from this place!! Brought my car in for muffler work and left with a dead battery. The mechanic even admitted to leaving my key on killing my battery. Both Jon and nick (owner and manager) both refused to fix my battery blaming me for it dying and refusing to replace it. Nick even insulted my family when I asked who left the key on he said your mom left the keys on. Really professional guy. I was hung up on several times by both nick and Jon and told that they wont fix the problem that they caused and that I should just buy a new battery.My battery worked fine before bringing it there and now its dead and somehow they think thats my fault?! Dont waste your time or money with this dishonest joke of a business.

Tuffy has a great atmosphere with excellent service. They are always willing to explain and physically show you anything that is wrong with your vehicle. The mechanics are very friendly, prompt with all services they do and fair with their prices. So take it to Tuffy! :)

Friendly and good service.

Took my car here once and was treated very well, they fixed it right and was very affordable. Brought the same car in 6 months later for something else. They barely got it back together just to have the repair fail 3 months later. All the traction control lights and abs lights came on and cruise control no longer works. The wheel bearing they charged me $800 for failed and they beat the hub and cv axles to hell trying to get the old one out. Long story short, here I am less than 1000 miles later putting $1100 into it, to fix everything they broke.

Tuffys in traverse city on S Garfield rd is the best place to go. I have had no complaints and have been more then satisfied with the work they have done. And they always treat you like family. Ill defiantly be doing all my car related business with them from now on.

Was charged 423 dollars to have my alternator fixed. The issue is that they charged me 321.00 for the part itself!!! I can find the same part online for 150.00 dollars. It is ridiculous that they would mark it up 50 percent!!! I was told it was due to the warranty and they have to pay rent for a building. Really?! Thats called doing business. Also their car tech manager was very rude. The office manager agreed with me and I asked him then you should not have him addressing customers until he improves. I have been a long time customer but not anymore. DO NOT go there or at least check your pricing.

Horrible service. Don’t know how to treat there customers with respect and are very rude if they are told no. Wouldn’t recommend. There manager loves to argue. Took a vehicle in to get the steering fixed and when we went to pick it up, we found it it was broke completely to where we couldn’t move the tires. We tried to pick it up and all they did was yell at us and tell us to get out of there way AFTER they called and told us we needed to pick it up or it was going to get towed.

Ive had multiple cars that Ive taken to Tuffy in Traverse and Ive always left feeling confident that the problem was taken care of. As an example, I used a different mechanic/shop because I needed a new water pump. They replaced it, but that left me stranded because they didnt take the time to look further and see that the entire cooling system needed to be replaced. Tuffy, on the other hand, has never done that, and looks at the starting point and ending point of any problem. They are honest and very conservative in their assessments. They dont like to tell you that a part could go another 500 miles because it could snap pulling out of the driveway, but they have done it for me in a pinch. They are looking to get you a SAFE car. Multiple times Ive gone in and theyve found the problem fast, called within a half hour, and had the repair done within a couple hours. In addition, on several occasions, Ive walked out paying LESS than the estimate. Their manager Mike is an upstanding guy as well, and the others really know what theyre doing. Will continue to go back!

While fixing my catalytic converter they said they could make it sound good too, I had one request that I repeated numerous times, I dont want it to be obnoxious, just a little sound. After nearly $1000.00 my truck is fixed but it sounds like a straight piped harley. I asked them how we could fix it to the quieter sound I wanted, and he wants another $250 to put on a $37 auto zone muffer. No thank you. You have lost my business. And dont believe the response, the tip was on your recommendation of the sound I asked for, and you welded nothing in, I installed the same muffler you quoted for $40 with two clamps. Stop lying to sound better.

Great shop! The guys are very friendly and helped get me fixed up in a bind and had the parts on hand. Came out and demoed the issue to see what was wrong so I could show my boss and were great sports!

I installed tie rods in my truck and took it in to have the front end aligned.The technician informed me that my complete steering system needed replacing. I asked him to show me what needed to be replaced as I had just installed the tie rods yesterday. As we came to the truck that was on the hoist still, he stood back a ways from the truck and said, Take a look. I asked him to show me which parts he was talking about and he said, What, do you want me to give you the tools too? I couldnt believe it. I told him to lower the truck and take it off the hoist.Ive been in business in Traverse for over 30 years and have to tell you, This is a new one.. I guess you better not install your own tie rods.

$150 to check out my brakes that THEY replaced. Should be under warranty because they have a 12,000 mile 12 month warranty. Dont let em sweep you with this crap. I had only put 5,000 miles on them. I cant believe i trusted these guys with my car or money.

Went to Tuffy to get a free inspection as ADVERTISED and was told that I have to pay $39.00 because they heard that I have someone else do my work. This is total DISCRIMINATION. Do you guys have any idea how many people go there just for that reason. Maybe you shouldnt advertised something that you are not willing to provide. This is called false advertisement.Also to top it off, everyone was standing around doing absolutely NOTHING! I have never been treated so poorly in customer service.Also I do OWN my vehicle that I brought to this shop. I WAS NOT car shopping!!!

Took my truck in when the exhaust broke free from its clamps and ripped a hole in a pipe They fixed it for less than $100, when another shop wanted way more because they would only replace the whole exhaust system. Tuffy also found a stabilizer bar that had come unbolted, and reattached it for free since it just took a few seconds.

Ive worked with mike and nick several times when i was having car troubles and when money was tight. The reality of it is is that this is a chain, not a locally owned business and probably arent in control of the prices that are made on things. They set prices higher then the stores like advanced or autozone on parts yes because they have overhead prices to pay just like sears or anyother place in town. But I can assure you all parts they use are top quality. They are honest and give advice and generally if you buy your own parts and have them put it in you can save some money. They are willing to work with you and help as much as they can. The many times Ive been there they had made one mistake, owned up to it and didnt charge me. Cheap labor isnt skilled and skilled labor isnt cheap.

Took my car to a near by dealership. They wanted to replace my exhaust system and catalytic converter to the tune of $2,225.00. Took it to Tuffy Muffler on S. Garfield for a second opinion, they got it in within minutes and gave me a free estimate to repair what was needed, $123.60! They were wonderful to deal with, pleasant and thural. I would highly recommend these guys! .

I have taken my truck there a few times every one is nice they take you to your vehicle to show you everything they are talking about they dont coast that much either.

Very disappointed in the service with tuffy. As a retired Master Mechanic I would expect more from them. I took my vehicle there for a 4 wheel alignment and it seemed good they pointed out I had a bad tie rod in the front end and I decided to take it back to the house and replace it myself so I paid 29.99 for a alignment check. Then brought it back and they did the wheel alignment paid 69.99 for that! I drive for Lyft and Uber so I took it in to have it inspected at rideshare inspection station and they stated that I had a rear toe link bad so I contacted Tuffy and spoke to Mike he stated that it would be another cost of an alignment. I asked whys that his mechanic missed the bad part in the inspection. He stated that they are not into business to inspect before the alignment because they didn’t install the parts. What????? What kind of shop don’t inspect before they do a job. Every place I have ever worked at no matter if the customer installed the parts you inspect it because if you the mechanic worked on it last your liable. Very bad business practices I must say. Complats are Being filed with multiple agencies. And also corporate level. As a business with the BBB myself I definitely would like to see something happen!

Zero star i was very disappointed when i walked out this place yesterday had my both front sides struts done & exhaust pipe i spend a lot of money when i got my car theres a cracked in the windshield drivers side. Im pretty detailed about my car when i dropped it off theres no such crack in my windshield. Shawn the manager said he talked to the owner & wont cover the damaged this is very poor customer satisfaction it didnt happened in my time it happened in your time. I been going to this place for brakes done & oil change the last manager here gives me a high customer satisfaction i had oil change & tire rotation when i got home i noticed 1 hubcap is missing i called him right away without questions asked he order a new hubcap for me when i picked it up it didnt match the other three hubcaps just to make me happy & satisfied he ordered 4 new hubcaps now thats a great customer satisfaction. Im not happy about the windshield damaged its now all the way to the passenger side. I will never come back to this place again. Good luck next customer & beware that theres no customer satisfaction here now.

CONSUMER BEWARE: I strongly advise anyone seeking vehicle repair services, to do their homework before taking it to TUFFY OF TRAVERSE CITY LTD. I would also encourage anyone that has been taken advantage of by TUFFY OF TRAVERSE CITY LTD., to file an Automotive Complaint Form with the Secretary of State. It is a simple process and can be googled online fairly easily.I learned through my experience that there are major flaws with how this business operates. The work performed on my car by TUFFY OF TRAVERSE CITY LTD. compromised the safety of the vehicle putting myself and others in danger. Upon taking my car to be inspected by another repair shop, I learned that the wrong parts were installed, unauthorized work performed, and my ABS brake line was cut. After speaking to the apparent owner of TUFFY OF TRAVERSE CITY LTD., he agreed to refund my money in exchange for the misordered parts installed on my car and the removal of my social media reviews.The refund transaction never cleared. I had to contact them again and they learned about my report to the State of Michigan, and rescinded the offer to refund my money unless I had the complaint dismissed. Unfortunately, it was already after they picked up the wrongfully installed parts from my vehicle and the State Investigation couldn’t be closed.THE RESULTS OF THE INVESTIGATION CONCLUDED THAT TUFFY OF TRAVERSE CITY LTD. VIOLATED THE MOTOR VEHICLE SERVICE AND REPAIR ACT.My initial intentions were to have this resolved directly with the business and make them aware of what was going on, however, I am of the impression that the root of the problem starts from the top. In addition, Tuffy Corporate Headquarters failed with assisting with a resolution and I even tried to address my concerns with Roger Hill, the Franchise’s President/CEO, and have yet to hear back from him. Be careful with who you trust and use caution for your next auto repair!

This is the best repair shop ive ever had work done at. The guys are great to deal with and show you whats wrong with the car if you ask. The price was about 50 dollars more than other places but tuffy has a way better warranty and use premium parts. Did the repair same day a++ thanks tuffy guys.

I was quoted 1900 elsewhere to replace exhaust from the catback. Tuffy quoted 330 to fix those parts that really needed fixing. Very happy with that pragmatic approach.

Best service in the city, went in for brake squeel and found i had bad caliper and very reasonable and freindly service got me in and out when serveral other shops in area couldnt. Shawn and the guys at Tuffy will be doing all my auto repairs in the future.

This is the only review Ive ever felt like making. The other positive reviews here look like people that dont know anything about cars.Winter, brakelines are done, need them replaced. Quoted 400, 100 per line. So I do it because ido already lost all my fluid and tuffy was the only nearby place and I was on the road, so shopping guide around wasnt an option. Id already had 1 brand new line put in out of 5. When I get the car back its 900 and they replaced the brand new line too and added that to the bill.My friend asked them for a brakes quote and they said $800 to do all 4 brakes. Brakes that take 30 min for the average person to do. So theyre either sitting with the car on the lift for 6 hours charging for nothing or upchanging their parts. Id lean towards the former because the parts werent very much on my invoice.Now to top things off, my new, exorbitantly expensive lines have broken twice now in 2 months

They were able to get my car in and fixed the same day which isnt very easy to find in traverse city. Their prices are fair for this area

I have used Tuffy for my brake and exhaust system repairs for 15 years and have been very satisfied with the work, the mechanic always explained to me what the problem is and how to fix it.

Mike left the shop, so there is no adult supervision. They will scalp you, because mechanics write your job on commission so they jack price up 2x 3x timesStay away. Go to Quinns Auto.
