I came in with a transmission issue. They were friendly and knowledgeable. Every time they came to tell me what was wrong and what theyre suggestion was they brought the parts to the lobby to show me the broken part/issue which bolstered my trust in them. One of the guys even walked me back to look at the vehicle to show me exactly what was wrong and explain what needed to be fixed and why. Its hard sometimes to find a trustworthy mechanic and one that goes to the effort to explain and not talk down to you (especially as a woman), but I definitely felt they were trustworthy and respectful. I will absolutely be coming back with car issues and for regular service. I was very pleased and impressed with their service today.

I was charged almost $200 for the ac door actuator that I found online for $25. I could not find one for over $40. I was told that my engine air filter was dirty and needed a new one which I had just changed 2 days prior and when I checked it at home it was bright white perfectly clean.Edit in response: So it doesnt come with the warranty, I pay for the warranty. You should not put the price of the warranty included as the price of the part. Thats lying, so thats why I was thrown off apparently. There is value in diagnosing correctly, thats why I paid $117 for the diagnostic.

I asked this company to check on a leak that was coming from my transmission. It looked like it was caused by the speedometer cable, so a replacement seemed necessary and it was a simple enough fix. I really just wanted them to take a look into it and stop the leak. I came back to find out that they had put a service package (transmission cleaning) onto my order and kept claiming that this was going to cover my needs (an extra $500). They did not fix what I asked them to. Instead the top mechanic (I think the owner) patronized me, and pretended that I had no idea what I was talking about. This company is clearly more interested in being conniving, finding ways to make people pay for things they did not ask for, and pretending to give the customer what they want. I do not understand how they consider themselves as a 5 star company when they literally did not solve anything for me in the end. Id actually give them 0 stars at this point.

Thought I need a new sensor so asked them to check the codes, turned out just a loose ground wires. They got my truck back to me very quick and always kept me informed. PS The front desk women is amazing! I felt so comfortable with her and felt I left my truck in good hands!

Eric and his team at American 5-star once again saved the day by quickly repairing my classic Datsun 240Z. Even classic, upgraded cars are no problem for them. From replacing the starter, fan clutch and brake booster, they do it all. And their preliminary cost estimate is always spot on. And special thanks to Kathy for always being super helpful and polite.

Active duty military stationed across the country, but my family in Mesa is using one of my vehicles and keeping up on the maintenance of it for me. AC went out on it, and 5 Star was very accommodating and quick in getting it fixed. This is only shop in the area I trust to perform maintenance/repairs on my vehicles as I’m not in Arizona at the moment to do it myself. Great shop, honest work, fast turnaround time. One stars is for the coupons they send with a 25$ value. Then after arriving they charge you for 70$ for an oil change which should normally cost 40$. I think this is called bait and switch! it happened to me twice. The first time I said maybe there is a mistake but no! They dont even explain why an oil change should cost 70$

Recently moved out of the area but I miss this place!! Their rates are extremely fair and they helped out a lot with car issues I was having earlier this year. I recently took my car in to a competing chain closer to my new residence and through their poor service I was reminded of how great the service was here. Definately recommend this shop if youre living in the Tempe/Mesa area!

A little pricey and everytime I talk to the lady after she quoted me $3,000 one price out the door at the beginning I paid a $1000 more a week and half later when it was fixed.. Low key not happy at all.. I feel I got over charged bcuz I didnt know a lot about cars..

Honestly, I love going to American Five Star for my auto repairs. They work with me and give me options without any difficulty. I need a lot of work on my car and they let me know what can wait and what shouldnt. It makes what could be a huge hassle a breeze.Beyond that the work on my car is top-notch. I used to have a loud Buick that sounded like it could take off at anytime. She now runs quiet and is the enjoyable SUV I bought years ago. Thank you for everything you do!!

I had an oil leak. They steam cleaned the underside of my motor and still couldnt find the leak. They said if it leaks again bring it back. Sure enough 2 days later oil on the ground. I went back, they took me right in and found the gasket for the oil filter was leaking. They replaced it and no more leak. They were very quick, very friendly (even called me a few days later to see if all was good) and best of all the cost was very reasonable. I would recommend these guys to everybody with car problems.

I went here a few weeks ago but wanted to give it time to make sure it was true but after fighting all summer with a dishonest dealer and many mechanics who couldn’t fix my AC but were draining Hundreds from my wallet i decided to give these guys a try with their $20 checkup to see if they could finally figure out what’s wrong well i don’t know what they did and i don’t know if they even know because they said it was going to be a $700+ fix but its worked ever since! I can’t thank them enough as you can imagine how miserable summers in AZ are with no AC! Also great with following up i will come here in the future

I have been a customer here for perhaps two years and am consistently impressed by the service that we have receive at American Five Star, both customer and repair. We use A5S for both routine maintenance and body work, and every time I go in its a straightforward and pleasant experience. They understand that repairs are expensive and Cathy takes the time to go through each summary with me. I am especially grateful for the candid advice that I routinely receive (The manufacturer recommends that you should get this service now, but its in good shape so no need to spend that money now; this other part will need to be addressed in 5-6 months; you can fix that yourself in ten minutes at home if you dont want to pay us to do it).Ive also been happy with the quality of the repair work. I havent had any issues pop up after the fact, but Ive been repeatedly assured that they stand behind their work and would fix any problems that arose after a repair. Oil changes are done quickly while I wait. The few times Ive needed body work done, theyve been very good about keeping me up to date on the status of the repair.All in all, this is a shop that is friendly, quick, reliable, and honest. I wholeheartedly recommend them.

I had called around to 5+ shops for the best price to replace my transmission and clutch. American Five Star had the most fair price and I was more than happy with the customer service. They are incredibly quick and communication was fantastic. I would defiantly recommend them!

Traveling in my RV from out of state, the RV would not start after stopping for lunch. No click, no turning over, nothing. I was very unfamiliar with the area. Luckily I found Eric and Kathy. What a team! The RV was towed in 30 minutes before they closed an Saturday. Eric quickly diagnosed the issue (starter relay), started the RV with a paperclip, and showed me how to replace the part. The part was put on hold at NAPA and I was on my way. I highly recommend American Five Star Car Care Center. They are knowledgeable, explained everything to me so I understood and where timely and reasonably priced. Oh, and the waiting room was cool and clean. Thank you Kathy and Eric.

I would recommend American Five Star for services. They explained everything and gave me a chance to see what the problem was so that I could understand. They were very Affordable! I did, however, wait about 2.5 hours for an hour worth of work, even with my appointment but the waiting area was comfortable. I still would recommend them!

I took my 75 Nova here over a year ago for what turned out to be a complete transmission rebuild. After that, Ive been coming to American Five Star for service and repairs ever since. The staff is friendly and accommodating and theyre incredibly helpful in explaining the needed repairs and work being done. They have a great suggested service schedule and keep track of any issues with vehicle without ever pressuring their customers to have the work done. The shop is right along the light rail, making commuting to/from without your car even easier. I constantly recommend this place and would trust them with just about any car.

Ive been here quite a few times for oil changes, which always turn out fine. But I try to avoid them as much as possible when it comes to any actual work needs to be done on my car. Simply because they try and charge as much as possible for just checking out your car.The first time I brought it in my car had a light on and I wanted it checked out. So I wanted them to just look at it. They plugged in their machine and it gave a read out on what needed to be done. The code checking itself takes about 2 minutes. The repair was too expensive at the time, and I said to hold off. Well they charged me around $50 to do 2 minutes worth of work.The second time my breaks were getting rough and I had a brake light out. They checked the brakes by removing the wheel and disassembling the the entire thing. Mind you they can check the pads by removing the wheel only, which takes about one minute. Another $50 there. They dismantled my brake light, about 30 seconds worth of unscrewing. Told me that the electrical system would need to be fixed. Checking that was $50.The brake pads and work wouldve been close to $500, brake pads! And the electrical system another $500. It seems like they just throw prices around. I couldnt afford either now, so they charged me the $100 for nothing to be done to my car.Sorry if I sound bitter. But Ive been through quite a lot with these guys, and I just had to post this. Ill never head back.

They were professional, thorough, took the time to explain the issues, and made sure the original issue I brought it in for was resolved. I have been to a number of auto repair shops and done a number of complicated repairs and left confident they did the job right and for a very good price. Went here because I had received a free oil change in the mail but don’t think I actually got a free oil change. I had been here once before and was told that I needed a new serpentine belt. I ordered the belt on my own (thinking I would save money) and had them replace it. I was quoted on the phone with Kathy $70-$80 for the belt replacement. When I showed up for my appointment I was told it would be $159 and change. DOUBLE the original quote. GET ALL QUOTES IN WRITING! I asked that they inspect why it sometimes is hard to shift into gears. I got a call that it was the master cylinder in the clutch and that it would cost me $403 to replace when the part is under 100 dollars. They told me that my car was not drivable and that it needed to be replaced immediately. I said theres no way I can pay that today and I need my car for my job. They knocked the price down a hundred dollars and said they needed to keep my car overnight. They next day the price they quoted me was different yet again. The prices constantly change here so beware of that. The work they did was good but the prices are high and changed 4-5 times for me. I will be going somewhere else next time I need work done on my vehicle.

I wish that I could rate lower than one star, but this is the absolute worst experience I have ever had repairing my vehicle. As a small business owner, and having been in management for many years I still cannot believe the way I was treated by this place. I brought my vehicle in 2 months ago and had to repair an ignition coil, it was the #3 ignition coil that was misfiring that I have in my paperwork, but apparently they only switched around one coil with another and replaced the #5 coil, totaling to $652. I had the same problem this last week, exactly two months later and brought my vehicle back in thinking it would be under warranty at the time of the first coil, I was NOT recommended to replace ANY other coils including the ORIGINAL COIL 3 that was misfiring in the first place the first time I brought my car in. The second time I brought my vehicle back, they let me know it was coil number 6, and recommended that I replace all the other ones, I will be completely honest that I turned down the work because in the pit of my stomach I felt like I was being taken advantage of, a young, single 30 year old female who does not know much about cars was PERFECT prey for this shop. TWO DAYS LATER COIL NUMBER 3 GOES OUT, when I brought my car back I was obviously upset, to me there is a HUGE difference in making a recommendation and having a coil that had been misfiring since the first time I had brought my car in two months prior. They also tried to recommend a few other things to replace, spark plugs, tune up, etc. but having had felt like the previous job was a rip off I contacted the previous owner of the car who then gave me receipts for all the work that they were telling me I should do, spark plugs, tune up etc. Listening to the mechanics and front desk discuss my vehicle on the second time I was there that week it was VERY CLEAR to me that there had been issues and sounded like a mistake was clearly made on their part, which I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND MISTAKES HAPPEN. Kathy at the front desk told me they would call me shortly and sort it out. I received a call back letting me know that my car was ready to be picked up, but working the night shift I would not be able to pick it up the next day, which was no problem. I was under the assumption since NO ONE asked or told me what was wrong with the vehicle that whatever work had to be done to correct it would be handled. I went to pick up my vehicle today and they made me pay another $250 for the ORIGINAL COIL THAT WAS MISFIRING TWO MONTHS AGO. They did NOT call me for my consent to work on the vehicle, they just left me a message telling me my car was all set to go. Prior to giving me my bill Kathy told me they tested the other coils and there were good to go and I would not have issues, SO WHY DID THEY TELL ME TO REPLACE ALL OF THEM THE WEEK BEFORE? I spent over $1000 in two months in replacing 3 ignition coils, this third one should have been done by them since they did not repair it correctly the first time since it was their oversight, but they demanded I pay for it and on top of it were SO RUDE, demeaning, and acted as though it was ALL my fault. Everyone I have spoken to, sought advice, or tried to gain other perspective especially in the mechanic world so I could get a better understanding have all told me the same thing, I have been completely ripped off, and targeted for my lack of being able to stick up for myself. I am going to take action now, I will tell everyone I know about how awful this place is, and as silly as it is have reached out to a couple news stations to tell my story and stick up for myself. It might sound silly over $250, but it is not right and this shop should not be able to treat people like this, I should most definitely have been treated with respect not like I was a nuisance. I really wish that I could have left a different review had they rectified the situation and apologized for their oversight instead of remaining blameless and charging me AGAIN.

Actually this place doesnt even deserve 1 🌟... This is my story. I went there a couple weeks ago, need assistance in my electrical Provisional Patent project. I talked to the lady at the desk Kathy she introduced me to the owner his name is Eric Ali. I told him what I needed he told me to download the documents and also the video to his email. I called there they say he DIDNT have a chance to look at the videos or the electrical components. I went up there talked to her she said he still havent had a chance to look at it but he would get back to you. I call there two days later, the same runaround.... I assure you Eric Ali!!! If you try to if any way you or your staff if you use this project on any vehicles I will sue you!!! Under the United States Patent protection laws.👍🏿💪🏿👋🏿

I can’t say enough good things about Eric and the crew of American 5 star. I’ve been taking my work trucks to them for years and they have always given me top notch above and beyond service. Everyone from the shop to Kathy in the office, very professional and I have yet to brake something they couldn’t fix.

Helpful, honest, they take you into the garage and show you what needs to be done, and they send gift cards for the holidays, they do fun customer appreciation events. It takes one appointment and your car is fixed. They also offer coffee. Oh oh, and there is a good Shwarma spot next store to eat at to kill some time

I took my Dodge diesel truck to Eric for a serious repair. He fixed it correctly the first time, checked for, found and fixed a few other safety issues at about 1/2 the price of the dealer. He gave me great peace of mind that my truck would be fine -- and it has been for over 2 months. I am very satisfied.

Awesome service! This shop has restored my faith as a good ole boys mechanic shop. Instead of consistently requesting that you change this part or that part just to continually keep your car in the shop and rack up the bill, they take the time to actually diagnose the issue your vehicle is having, call you to report the issue, and repair it if you agree to have it done. Extremely reasonable prices. Courtesy checks every time you come into the shop to let you know how well the consumable parts are wearing, and even keeps an eye out for routine fluid and other service maintenance as the miles approach.Oh, did I mention that they warranty EVERY piece of work they do on your vehicle for 2 years or 24000 miles? Trust me, I have had to have a couple of things replaced after the initial fix and they hold true to their word of warranty.Try American Five Star out and you will not be disappointed, even have a conversation and a cup of coffee on them!

Been going here for years. Prices are fair and the staff and owner are honest. Front desk is real nice too.

1) I brought my car in because I was having trouble in first and second gear. They quoted me almost $3000 for a clutch with a two year warranty. I have them fix the car, then immediately had to bring it back in because it was having the same issues. The next morning they called me and said they can’t find out what’s wrong so I picked up the car and have the same issue happen again! For the third time I had them look over the car again and they said it’s probably just the fuel filter clogged, as well as there is no battery!?!? How come when I dropped off the car there was a battery and now there’s no battery!?! Looks like they STOLE my battery and now charging me for it Plus charged me $3000 for something that actually cost $135. I took my car and brought it to three different mechanics and they all said the actual problem is the fuel filter is clogged, not the clutch! I will be bringing them to court... DONT GO HERE!!2) every single time I brought in my car I told them that the outer door handles do not work so they need to leave the windows rolled down so I can access the car using the door knobs on the interior. Every time they forget so I have to crawl through the back to access my car while I’m pregnant which is not fun!!!3) every time I have picked up my car after hours, they always park it on the west side of the building where all the cameras are. After complaining and saying I’m going to go to a different mechanic, they decided this one and only time to park it on the east side where there are no cameras and guess what happened when I showed up!?!? My car was being broken into (stolen)!! Had to call the police and will NEVER do business with these scammers again!

I have been servicing my car there for about 3 years now and i have always had a great experience. Eric is a good friend of mine and he really knows what hes doing. He rebuilt my entire transmission system and ever since then my transmission has been working 100%. Along with any other maintenance or servicing i have never been disappointed.
