I came by John’s and sound with a vibration problem, Patrick was very upfront and honest about what I needed.The technician was very friendly and showed me the work that he was performing and gave me a step-by-step overview of what was needing to be done.I highly recommend these guys very very upfront and honest and that’s all I expect.

This is my place from now on! Knowledgeable, accommodating, affordable and quick! I had a window that wouldn’t roll up and frantically called around looking for someone to fix it. I took my Honda to the dealership I bought it from, believing Proctor would be my best bet. They had my car for 3 days, charged me $160 and told me that they could not fix it now, nor could they estimate when they could, and that it would cost me over $1000.Patrick at John’s and Son had my window repaired in 3 hours and charged me considerably less than what Proctor quoted me.I highly recommend this shop, if they don’t have what they need to help you, they’ll find it!

If I could give this place negative stars I would. Literally the worst auto repair experience Ive ever had. If you are a woman and dont have a man to take with you do not go here because they will not only belittle you but also take advantage and grossly over charge you.

I went to get my engine light checked, they told me it would be around 1000 dollars to fix it, when calling around and telling other mechanics my problem they only charged 350. Very unprofessional, jacked up prices because they thought I would not know any better.

I have been to many mechanics over the past decade as my truck is both old and precious to me. Most mechanics will barely take a look at your vehicle, call you with a diagnosis and a quote, repair the quoted issue, and send you on your way. The ways John and Sons sets themselves apart from other mechanics are numerous:1. They spend the time to really drive the vehicle and test it over and over if the problem is elusive. They dont just hand it back to you and tell you, they dont see anything or its just old.2. THEY CALL YOU AND COMMUNICATE. I cant stress this enough. Patrick calls you back promptly, and even takes initiative to phone you when he tells you he will. When they find the problem(s) they notify you immediately and report back if they need to keep the vehicle longer. A lot of mechanics will set older vehicles back in the line of cars they are working on in favor of more expensive repairs. Not John and Sons.3. They are honest. After an inspection, something odd and out of place happened to cause a misfire in my second cylinder. Patrick called me, and told me. They test drove my car and erased the code because it felt fine. I took the truck home and I coded it on my obd2 and the code had come back. I called Patrick and he took the truck in, and fixed the issue, free of charge.4. They are family oriented. They treat their customers like they matter. I never once felt slighted, taken advantage of, or that common disconnect that happens in most shops. Impatience never entered the room.5. They are prompt and the work is good. He got me my truck back to me the day he told me he would, every time I brought it to him.Final thoughts:The shop needs a face lift but dont let that fool you. This is the best mechanic Ive given my money to in quite a while. Absolutely give them a try, you wont regret it.

Very good service! I called the on a late afternoon and needed to get the belt on my car replaced asap for a road trip and was able to get in the next morning at 9. Asked how long it was going to take, they estimated till around 1. Dropped it off and it was ready withen an hour and a half! I brought in my Ford Fusion in 2016 because the air conditioner was broken. A lot of mechanics couldve easily told me that I needed a new AC Compressor, (a $1000 job). Fortunately Johns and Son saved me a ton of money by determining that the problem was actually a blown fuse (Only a $70 repair).You can trust these guys to be honest and straight-forward with you. These guys are the best! This review is long overdue. My Husband has taken our family van there several times this year, and they have done amazing work each time. They never try to offer fixing things that dont need to be fixed (a common problem Ive had with other auto repair shops), they fix everything in a timely fashion and get you back on the road. The prices are extremely reasonable, and they are really nice guys. In the winter months, our alternator went out...and they understood we didnt have a lot of money to work with. They worked with us to get a used part with what we could afford, and they installed it for a very good price. We also recently got our AC repaired after months of no cold air, and our van is now running great. Its also our go-to shop for oil changes, as the prices are right on par with Walmart, but with better service. Patrick has been amazing at helping us with everything when we go. I highly recommend them if you need any auto work!

I don’t review often, but I feel people should know about my experience. I recently had both rear and front breaks give out on my 2014 Mazda 3. I don’t know much about cars, but after getting thousand dollar estimates from multiple places around Tallahassee, I decided to come over John’s and Sons. I’m so glad I did, Patrick diagnosed my car’s issues, and stayed in great communication with me throughout the process. Their estimate was the most honest price I had been given and in a business where your estimate is often changed for the worse mid-way through the job, my estimate stayed firm, as these are professionals and are NOT in any way trying to gouge you. They simply want to fix your car and do a fantastic job doing it. Both of my brakes are now perfect and my car feels brand new, Patrick even went out of his way to equalize my tire pressure, and refill my washer fluid. Honest people, listen to the positive reviews, they are correct!

Daughters engine blew a head gasket on her 2001 Jeep Grande Cherokee.She attends school there and lives off campus and relies heavily on her vehicle. I found these guys on line and am so glad i did. There prices were VERY competitive and they constantly kept me in the loop. They went out of their way to be accommodating as I was dealing with them long distance. I would definitely feel comfortable recommending this shop to anyone. No one likes going to a mechanic and spending your hard earned money on vehicle repairs, but getting repairs done here is money well spent. They really make the experience as good as it can be. Great Customer Service!Fair Prices!As a female, I was able to go to this shop without anyone with me and I got a price that was very reasonable based off of research before I came in. He checked my car to make sure I really needed the service and was not given wrong advice by someone else. I can honestly say these guys provided some of the best service and automotive knowledge Ive seen in repair shops around the Tallahassee area. Even though they were booked during the time I came in, they spared no time in at least looking at my car to provide an initial diagnosis. They had at least two other guys look into the car and assisted in providing an estimate on the possible amount it would cost as well as the time it would take to repair my car. All in all I would definitely return and recommend this repair shop to others. Theyre genuine mechanics in a town where other repair shops often gouge their prices because of the lack of automotive expertise students dont usually possess.

I drove all the way from Miami to attend FSU. Once I arrived, I noticed a screw on one of my tires. With much stress and concern for my tire, I took it to over 4 big brand tire shops in which all recommended me to get a new tire as the screw seemeed to be too close to the wall. As of last resort, I took my car here and was helped within seconds. They slowly removed the screw which turned out to be tiny and had no impact on my tire. I now have more trust on family owned bussiness like these and less on big branded shops which all they care for is to sell. This place saved me over $200 on a new tire and I highly recommend checking them out.

This is the only repair shop Ive used since coming to Tallahassee, and I dont see a need to search for another one. The first time I came to get regular maintenance done, the guys here pointed out the worn treads on my tire after I had just gotten a different tire replaced due to a nail. They recommended I go back to where I got my tire and get another ASAP. As a female with a very minimal knowledge of cars, I feel confident about bringing my car here. On multiple occasions, they have pointed out issues even though I brought my car in for a different problem. Some people will gripe that a mechanic found problems other than why the car was brought to the shop--in my opinion, this is like griping about your doctor finding a medical problem when you came to his office for a check-up.I do a lot of driving and have seen these guys about four times in the last year or so. They are great about explaining the problem, if its urgent or if it can wait a little bit, and giving an honest estimate (they usually include part cost and labor). Ive also witnessed Vince have patient conversations with the parents of undergrad females who has brought her car into the shop, explaining the situation, the parts, and the time for repair. When a customer wants to shop around after having been informed of the problem, costs, and issues, I cannot say Ive ever seen these guys try to prevent somebody from shopping around.So far Ive been pleased with the work that they have done on my car, and believe their prices are very fair. Consequently, Ive recommended this shop to several women and foreign friends, who might otherwise get ripped off by other mechanics in Tallahassee.

When I first moved to Tallahassee, I had a difficult time finding an honest and reliable mechanic. Fortunately, a friends recommendation brought me here, one for which I am very grateful! Especially given the fact that my clunker has over 100k miles and always in need of repair, lol.In any event, Ed has done a fantastic job managing the business, and Ive always appreciated his candor and affability. In addition, the mechanics have always been willing to physically show and patiently explain the repairs needed for my vehicle. Ive also never experienced any problems related to sloppy work. The repairs always held, and I never found a bolt or cap missing; this has happened more than once at some of the more reputable chains.Many of the negative reviews accuse Johns and Son of cheating their customers with unneeded repairs. This has never happened to me. In fact, theyve saved me boatloads of money on multiple occasions. For example, there was one instance when my AC had stopped working in the midst of a miserably hot Tally summer. Being a poor student, I feared that the bill would be higher than the value of my car. But after a careful examination, they found that the problem was only related to a minor electrical problem, a fix which would only set me back $50. Any other mechanic could have said that I needed an overhaul on the entire AC system, which easily could have cost me over $1k.Overall, I would highly recommend Johns and Son! My only complaint is that Ill need a new mechanic when I leave Tally.

Brought my 1997 Buick LeSabre here after a radiator hose ruptured. After paying for tow, parts and labor, it was $160 total. I had my car towed within 30 minutes of calling, and it was ready to be picked up within 3 hours. Speedy service at a really reasonable price.I am a college student and they didnt try to take advantage of me. I highly recommend Johns to college students, or anyone for that matter!

I have had nothing but positive experiences with Johns and Son. They are professional, fair, courteous, and efficient. They address the problem at hand and dont try to sell you services you dont need. Honesty is very important in the auto repair trade, and I can say with certainty that these guys are on the level. My car is getting on in years, so I have had the occasional issue over the last few years. I have taken my car to them 4 times in the last 3 years, each time with a different issue, and they promptly corrected the problem and the repair lasted. In addition to providing excellent service, they give very good advice for avoiding costly problems in the future. Their aim is not to create more problems to fix, but to build a lasting trusted mechanic/client relationship with the functionality of the vehicle being the bottom line of each transaction. These guys are fantastic! My trucks fuel pump went out on me on a Saturday night. I had the truck towed to my house. On Monday, I called Johns and Son and they promptly called a tow truck for me. They were finished repairing my truck by 2:00pm on Tuesday. They are also great with the prices. If I ever need anything in the future, I will always use them.

Would recommend to any auto-illiterate person who doesnt want to get gouged. They didnt just follow the computer codes and try to charge me for every broken part like the first guys but instead found the actual root of the issue and fixed it for far less than I was planning on spending. I had an okay experience on a vehicle repair I needed right away. Got the vehicle towed there thinking theyd work on it same-day, but we ended up waiting for a part over the weekend. The workmanship was good and the vehicle drives well again, but the overall process took a week before I was driving again. I understand that complications can cause delays, but they werent great at keeping me in the loop -- I had to keep calling them the next day when they didnt call me back in a couple hours. I asked but didnt get a cost estimate until after major work had been done.

Johns and Sons is nothing short of exceptional. They spent the morning running diagnostics and examining my car before calling to let me know the problem. They walked through every step and cost with me and only went ahead with the tasks I approved. They provided their recommendations for additional work and once again did not go ahead with it until we had discussed all options and costs. The turn-around was quick and they kept me constantly updated. I will continue to use this shop!

My window motor in my Cruze went out on 4th of July and I desperately needed to get it fixed since in Florida it monsoons whenever🙄 I called around to a few places but wasnt satisfied. I called Johns and Son and spoke with Patrick who put my mind at ease. He was knowledgeable in fixing this particular problem on cruzes and that was a huge relief. The diagnostic cost was deducted from my repair cost which is really appreciate. They worked me in their already scheduled appts and I still had my car within 2-3 hours. My window tint was scratched and when I notified Patrick he immediately apologized and went out of his way to rectify the situation. I can not thank them enough. Great prices, quick and efficient!!

By far the most trusting and honest mechanic shop I have dealt with in Tallahassee. the most difficult thing to find is a honest mechanic who isnt money hungry and will be truthful to the highest extent to ensure that your car is diagnosed right and no unnecessary time and money will be wasted. being a college student, an African American one at that, I found it hard to find a mechanic who wasnt trying to rip me off and who was also being just as fair and reasonable with me as he would be with anyone else. johns and sons was quick with their action and even when the problem they fixed was did not completely fix the problem at hand they offered me free services worth over 125 dollars. just exceptional. I recommend any college student to atleast give this place a visit. I believe that if you go with a clear, aware, and knowledgeable mind that the visit will be worth it.

Great service! I had my Hondas AC worked on and they did a flawless job. I have always been sketish about shops since they always try to rip you off and so started doing every minor repair myself but this time was the ac; I dont mess around with the AC. So I had to start looking everywhere online for a shop with good reviews for them to fix my cars ac and came across Johns ans Son auto and I am happy that I did. The reviews said that they were trustworthy, understanding, knowledgeable, and very friendly; they were right! I had a great experience with them. Johns and Sons is a get place to take your car to. I have never had to take my car to get it fixed anywhere in town and ended up going with them because of their reviews and I am happy that I did. I called their personal cell, on a Sunday, that they had listed on their site and got a call back later that afternoon to bring it by on Monday morning. My car problem was electrical and had to take it back a few times, but they only charged me for the initial first day cost of repairs and nothing extra on top of that. I thought that was really great. These are great guys and really nice.

One of the many troubles in someones life is finding a mechanic he/she can trust. Luckily, I have found the best, most reliable, and trustworthy mechanics in town. They are John (owner) and Ron (mechanic) from Johns and Son Auto Repair.I have been in Tallahassee as a student for three years and I have taken my car to them on four separate occasions. Whether it has been for a routine oil change or a broken valve cover gasket, I will only feel comfortable knowing that my car is in the safe and knowledgeable hands of John and Ron.My first encounter with this mechanic was not only a relief, but it made me a lifelong customer of Johns and Son Auto Repair. It occurred when the key tumbler in my steering column broke, while turning on my car. Basically, my car would not even start.My first thought was to take it to the local Dodge dealership and town to see what they could do. After A DAY AND A HALF of waiting, they finally diagnosed my key tumbler issue and said that the entire steering column had to be replaced... At a cost of $1500 without the labor!So, after some searching on the internet, I discovered Johns and Son and had my car taken there. John and Ron are both very friendly and will not lie to you about your cars mechanical problems. In the end, they made a $1500+ auto repair job into around a $200 job (with parts and labor) by getting the individual part that was affected and NOT the entire steering column.Whenever it comes to auto repair issues, I will only recommend Johns and Son. My car and my wallet are in better shape because of them!

I would definitely recommend Johns and Son! As a college student originally from Miami I had no idea where to take my car. After doing some research and reading online reviews, I decided that Johns and Son would be my best option. My car was towed to the auto repair shop, and within half an hour I received a call with a diagnosis- a faulty starter. Within two hours, I received another call- my car was done. I would advise anyone looking for a good mechanic in Tallahassee to look elsewhere. While Johns and Son HAD a great reputation in the past, I am almost positive that they have changed management, as the little old man who did a great job fixing my car before is no longer there and has been replaced with Vince, the posterboy for incompetence. Like another reviewer mentioned, Vince held my car captive for a week, telling me that he was trying to replicate the problems I was experiencing. Finally, he called to tell me that nothing was wrong with my car and it never acted up with him. That sounded great until it broke down in the middle of the street an hour later. After having it towed to Firestone I learned that I needed a new alternator, which was odd because Vince had my car for several days and claimed that he drove it all over Tallahassee with no problems.Do not use this mechanic. It is not owned by the same person who provided me with great service before and they have no idea what theyre doing. My car was fixed in two hours at Firestone, while Vince had my car for a week only to tell me that I could drive it with complete confidence. To then have it break down was frustrating to say the least and I hope no one else has a similar experience.

I trusted this mechanic and went in to get a simple oil change and then found that STUFF WAS MISSING FROM MY CAR! They say they are not responsible for stuff that goes missing from your car under their care, really? DO NOT COME HERE UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR STUFF STOLEN!!!!

I have been using John and Sons for 3 years now and every experience Ive ever had has been a great one. I have two cars that are over 10 years old, so I have made quite a few trips there recently.My favorite thing about them is that they always explain what the problem is and what he is going to do very well. There have been several occasions when I picked the car up John showed me the old part and pointed out how it had broken. Other times he has told me that some of the damage was cosmetic and that I didnt need to get it fixed. Once I brought the car in because the check engine light was on and he told me that what the problem was and that it was not necessary to fix immediately or that I could fix it myself and didnt charge me anything.All in all, I think he is the best mechanic Ive ever dealt with.

I called to ask about my new ford mustang being looked at - I mentioned I bought it two days ago and it started smoking out of the engine bay. I also mentioned that I had a warranty that would pay for things if it could- and if not I would obviously pay.I was told by a rude man that he doesnt want my business as he does not want to deal with the warranty people- so I hung up.Not very nice as I would have paid myself if he had any problems. Seemed very unprofessional and unhelpful.This man was also coping an attitude about if the place was licensed or not (a requirement the warranty people requested I ask about). He said this which I found rude as a response I wouldnt be in business if I wasnt licensed. in which case I replied well its obviously something that differs among mechanics as they specifically mentioned I had to make sure they are licensed.Stay away unless you want to deal with rude unprofessional people.

If you have a foreign vehicle DO NOT bring it here!!! I had a timing belt and water pump replacement done on my 2002 Audi A4 V6. Ten months later I had a coolant leak that got bad enough to bring it back in. It was diagnosed as a Thermostat housing leak which turned out to be incorrect. Long story short, the timing belt/coolant system job was done wrong and I wasted $1700 on the job. I went to R&S Auto Repair up on capital circle. They showed me how f***** up the timing belt job was done, with bolts over-tightened and tensioners put on incorrectly. IF YOU HAVE A FOREIGN VEHICLE, AVOID JOHN & SONS at all costs! Feel free to e-mail me if you have any doubts that this was a real experience and I will assure you that you do not want to waste $1700 on a sensitive job like this one.

John and Sons was beyond amazing ! My car starter broke, and I called around and many places would not work on VWs much less Beetles. Anyway, I had my car towed there almost before closing, and he waited for me when he could have easily went home. My ride who was supposed to pick me up from the auto repair shop didnt answer, and he graciously took me home ! he really didnt have to do any of that for me. he fixed my car AHEAD of schedule, he was such a nice man and very knowledgable. My boss recommended John, and I will definitely do the same to anyone know with car troubles. Better yet, I called around before I got there and Johns deal was the best, because he offers students a 10% discount ! John does a great job and looks out for students when in a college town, most people try to rip us off. Definitely recommend !!

Called and made an appointment for 8 a.m. 4 days ago. They werent even open. Upon checking their google listing they never open until 8:30. Idk ab the rest of the business but obviously customer service is lacking. There is even someone clearly sitting in the office not unlocking it :/ Really needed to get this done this morning and could have had an appointment elsewhere

My vehicle was broke down and needed rework done from inexperienced repairs. I also required some screws to be tapped out out due to the bolt heads being rounded off on the starter.I called three locations and was told the same thing, minimum 3-4 hours labor. And i know from history i will be charged 4-6 hours when its actually done.I am new to the area, so i had my f150 towed to Johns and Son because they are closest to my house.I dont know these guys or this business, but i do know my one time experience.1. The front counter Service Manager (Patrick)Is a very professional, friendly,knowledgeable person.2. My F150 was fixed at the time they told me.it would be.3. My F150 is repaired correctly.4. When i went to pay, they charged 2 hours ofLabor. This is less than they told me it .would be. No mechanic shop does that.xxxxx Im not pleased just because it came out cheaper, im pleased because i know in this industry it always comes out more than your qouted. They showed professionalism and integrity.

The guys were fast and very helpful. He told me to be there before 10am to beat the college crowd. I brought my 2004 Volkswagon Jetta. He hiked it up and within minutes saw the problem was with the exhaust. He sent me to Adams Street Mufflers (who were great). He didnt try to charge me and was very quick!

We were on our way to Disney to have a family reunion when our van started making an noise. We stopped in Tallahassee for a pit stop and it truely turned into a pit stop. Our power steering went out along with now a louder noise. .We chose to call John and sons because of the reviews. When I called them at 2:15 PM on a friday afternoon they said if you get the van here we will try to do everything in our power to get you back on the road. We had the van towed to John and sons. My husband and eldest went with the van to shop (only two can go in tow truck) while my twins and I wondered around waiting.Edward, John and the mechanic(sorry we did not remember your name) at John and sons went above and beyond to get us back on the road. The actually found a new power steering pump and had the bad one off and the new one on within 2 hours. The price was very reasonable. they explained everything to my husband and even showed him the damaged part. The originally had planned on closely early on this friday. I am so thankful that you were open and you did such and great job!!!!!!!Do not judge a book by its cover!Would highly recommend this place to anyone that needs repairs.

Came here for some minor issues with my car. The staff, the son specifically, was very polite, professional, and gave me advice inline with what I expected to hear.

While I didnt end up needing to have any work done, the gentleman we talkes to was incredibly helpful and friendly. We are on a road trip through the state, but this experience made me wish we lived closer!

Horrible service. Issue was not fixed. Took my vehicle to a more knowledgeable establishment and learned the mechanics at Johns and Son had no idea what they were doing.

Absolutely HORRIBLE! My daughters car was running really rough. Being that shes an FSU student and I am over 300 miles away, taking it to our local mechanic was out of the question. So I went online and researched for a good, reputable shop near the school. Johns & Son came up with good reviews, close to the school and offered student discount. I felt confident sending my baby there--boy was I WRONG! They took her car in and off to school she walked. Four hours later she was told she needed new wheel bearings and tie rods to the tune of $650--I was flabberghasted, because although I am a woman and dont know much about cars, I knew this would not cause the engine to run rough and would NOT fix the problem. So I called and spoke to Vince. He told me they could not get it to recreate the problem. I asked him if he had put it on the computer and he said no. I asked him if he would, and he said yes, but it would be a while. Long story short, we NEVER heard back from him that day or the following! My daughter called and was told to call back. She finally talked to Vince who said there were no codes and they could not find the problem. So she picked her car up and they charged her $45!!!! I called Vince, because they advertise all over FREE estimates. He said it was a diagnostics fee and refused to remove it or give my daughter the discount and went on to say he should not have released the car to her. He was a complete and total JERK! Since then Pep Boys did an excellent job, put it on the computer, got error code P0300, and repaired the car at a reasonable price in just under 2 hours and gave my daughter an excellent discount! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THESE GUYS! In my opinion they are SCHISTERS!! If my daughter didnt have me to advise her, she would have spent $650 on unneeeded repairs and the car still would have run like crap! DO NOT GO HERE!!!!

Great customer service with a reasonable price. They had my truck back to me in less than a day.

A total rip off. Went for one thing, and they tried to sell me two other things. TYPICAL BAD MECHANIC STUFF. When I said NO to the stuff they said I needed, they broke my radiator making my car undrivable and therfore forcing me to pay them to repair it. To top if off, they did not assemple the engine cover properly. Mechanics were not customer friendly and augumentative. I paid the price for poor work and service. You dont have to, DONT TAKE YOUR CAR THERE.

I took my car in for a new alternator and had it completed in a few hours. It was a fair price and I would recommend them to anyone.

I called up there and explained my problem. They had identified and fixed it under 30 minutes. Did not give me the run around.
