Nice facility! The clerk at the reception desk was very helpful. Ive attended two programs so far and look forward to the pool opening.
Not bad place, I think pretty good but the gym is too small, I wish it was bigger
Im sure you can find a gym with newer equipment, better classes and more amenities... But heres your bottom line: its adequate and supports a wide range of needs. The place is never too crowded, the equipment is good enough, its got a lap pool and a therapy pool, its got classes, tons of activities (including basketball courts and outdoor hockey rink) and its got child care, all at a pretty good price. The North club might have better equipment but it doesnt have child watch or a lap pool.Fitology might have better classes but it doesnt have the weight room and pools.... Ive left to try other gyms a bunch of times but I always come back.
Rude staffs, have been on the swim team before, it was terrible. The changing room were the most horrible part about this place, a few years ago I seen some kids had diarrhea all over the floor, the smell was a nightmare.
This location has an excellent variety in terms of equipment and rooms. I think anyone with common sense would be able to do whatever workout they want with plenty of options to switch things up. What really stands out here is the staff though. Very friendly and they went the extra mile for me when they didnt have to. Go here, you wont regret it.
Great facility for exercise with family and friends. Safe and clean. Staffs are very friendly. I love State College YMCA!
Very nice place! Not dandy but is definitely worth the price! It has variety of equipments that get the job done! The swimming pool is also good!
If your website says you close at 9 that means you close at 9. Not 8:30 not 8:45 you close at 9. For all that I could’ve went to planet fitness with those terrible hours . Nobody wants to workout in a packed gym at 10am . The gym is already small enough, compared to any other gym or YMCA I’ve been to . The least you can do is stick to your website closing time 9PM
Pretty awesome place! Good workout equipment and they have two pools!
Don’t even get the nationwide membership because you cannot even use it
I live right down the street and signed up for a membership. After moving from state college, I attempted to cancel that membership before the monthly renewal date. I was forced to pay for another month due to a 30 day cancellation policy. I specifically asked when I signed up if I could cancel at anytime. Ridiculous, while not a huge sum of money, its the principle. I gave them a weeks notice and they need 30 days? Not okay.
Kind and hospitable staff and management. Very affordable, and supporting humanitarian causes.
We had been members for over 25 plus years and had been very happy. Two years ago we switched to spring mills as it was closer to home. During covid they changed some policies, let staff go closed the smymca but still charged our card every month. When we asked what the $$ was going to Scott got very huffy and reimbursed our %$ for the months they were closed which is not what we were asking. Today the manager harrassed my husband and son at the sm YMCA. Bye felicia.
Great place to work out and a valuable community resource.
Bob, who runs the Wednesday night open rock climbing, is a real gem. I came in from out of town and was looking for a unique experience and he delivered a very pleasant evening! I haven’t rock climbed in about five years, but he walked me through the process! Thank you, Bob, for your volunteering!!
The State College YMCA is Phenomenal. The Gym has all the equipment you could need, If your a parent you can take advantage of the FREE Child Watch. Youre not going to find that anywhere else in State College. The Staff are all great and very helpful. I took my daughter whose 4 rock climbing for the first time and they were very patient and helpful. I would recommend the YMCA to anyone. For future upgrades, a Sauna and Steam Room would be wonderful.
Watch out for the fine print in membership form that requires you to give a written 30 day notice prior to the date of pay for Membership cancellation. Asking the staff does not really help and they may not answer your questions correctly. Had to pay an extra month of membership even after moving to a different state. Quite ironical for an organization thats based on following core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility.
Great place I would say. I play hockey here and its free for just a pickup game. The leagues arent expensive either. The inside is well maintained and the gym is huge. There are pools and anything else you expect in a YMCA. Its truly the perfect place.
Old gym, old equipment, saw a moving cockroach in gym. Only good thing are pools and day care. Expensive if you are using it one time in a week. Staff did not know much, difficult to communicate with, did not return emails. I am not happy with staff attitude. For 50$/month, I would expect more better service.
I like it.
Weightlifting area is legit. Many different machines and free weights to use. 8 lane pool is well kept. Locker rooms and bathrooms are nice. Staff is always friendly and courteous.
State College YMCA-the place you go where everyone knows your name and they are always glad you came!
Slightly pricy. The staff are friendly though and the equipment is good. Im kind of put off by the signs in the gym that read this equipment brought to you by so and so when the membership fee is so high.
They kept charging my account after summer camp. Be careful when you give them a credit card
Pretty sus place, but I get a lot of swimming done there. The prices for their vending machine are ridiculously expensive, don’t use it.
Im a former Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguard, pool manager and competitive swimmer. This YMCA pool is single handedly responsible for me giving up swimming after 40 years of regular participation. The water is WAY too cold for a multi-use pool as described by USA Swimming. We have friends who have had to pull their kids out of lessons because it was such a miserable experience for the children. And recently know of two regular swimmers in their 40s who said they were ready to give up fighting the Y over the water temperature issue and quit swimming. Whenever I swam at other YMCAs around the country and state (quite a few) the pools were ALWAYS warmer than this one. This Y uses the warmer therapy pool as an excuse for keeping the water cooler in the large pool yet teach classes and lessons in the large pool which make it a multi-use pool—a pool which shouldnt be at competition temperature. Finding lane to swim laps had become increasingly impossible over the past few years. The facility is oversold and over crowed.
Great Y. Two pools, a lap pool and a therapy pool. Lots of workout equipment and the staff trained to help you. Friendly staff.
Very disappointed about their babysitting program. Unfriendly and nonprofessional! They just let the babies watch TV and play cell phone.
Only joined this gym for the free daycare, which isnt free. I have to buy a membership for a 2 month year old baby. Ive been to a lot of gyms and never had I seen any of my friends play a membership for a child, when it says free daycare. The day that we joined we were reminded it was free daycare (wouldnt have joined if it wasnt) .... later to be just told it was a additional fee. This was a complete false advertisement. Completely upset. Also!! Theres another 50 fee to just join. Lol place is a joke.
Its awesome, but the average gym is about 90 degrees, and the Ys is AIR CONDITIONED. Overall, great for excersize.
Great spot with a great community. Fairly priced as well!
Great place for swimming. Staffs are friendly.
Good place to workout 💪
See shuffle dancing and Elvis on Youtube Verygood exercise
Wonderful facility. I really appreciate the free child care!
