I joined a crossfit gym. Its a warehouse, but thats all whats needed for these types of workouts. I generally dont do these kinds of workout. I generally do squats and deads mixed with sone sort of press. These were burpees situps step ups push ups... more bodyweight type stuff for conditioning. So the next few workouts are really going to suck. . Ill definitly do more bodyweight work just to get better. But this is not what I generally do so adaption will be needed. If youre into bodybuilding, or squat at a slow pace like me, this would be a good change. Basically this was like being smoked in the army. So if you wanna pay someone to smoke you because you dont have the will power to do this yourself... why not

Nova Strength and Conditioning is the ultimate Fitness Family! The coaches are caring and encouraging, the nutrition strategy is powerful (and sustainable for life), and the support is limitless. In addition to my own progress, I love watching SO many people around me lose weight and get healthy. Thanks NOVA for helping me to look and the feel the best I ever have!!

I really didn’t know what to expect from joining this gym, more specifically this ‘boot camp.’I’d like to say all of the trainers were very accomodating, and inspiring. But not in a pushy way. Of course there is that encouraging phrase, “One more!”, “You can do this!”, etc. But all with the underlying theme of ‘get done what you can, rest a bit and get back to it.’This is a gym that provides a service that,... no, it’s a family. You feel you belong and glad you came and worked out.I didn’t reach anyway near my goals, but that is due to me and not the NOVA S&C family. I’m looking forward to getting back again, now that I know what to expect and not go in with preconceived ideas. If you’re tired of being tired, just get with these guys and let them lead you to having fun.

I did the 6 week boot camp at NOVA and I loved it! The best thing about this gym is the environment they cultivate. I always felt extremely welcomed and safe when I came to the gym and appreciated the diverse background of all the athletes. They were always helpful to make adjustments to workouts to fit individual needs and I always left super sweaty but very satisfied! I gained the confidence and skills from NOVA S&C to start going regularly to the gym back in my college town. Thank you Erin, Jena, and Lulu for making me feel at home! I will miss the community and hope to see you next summer :)

I wanted to switch up my workout routine, so I joined NOVA. The coaches have offered me the perfect combination of motivation, support, and encouragement to challenge myself. I was a little worried about the mythical “gymtimidation,” but that’s far from the atmosphere here. Class sizes are small, so it’s almost like you have your own personal trainer, and every movement can be modified to meet you where you are. Happy to be NOVA Strong!

They are not intimidating at all and you will feel at home right away! Jena is a great trainer definitely sign up for her classes with boot camp!

I truly love this place, it makes me feel great. I never thought that I would be excited about going to work out. I love the team, how they helped me and didn’t make me feel out of place. I feel great, I really would recommend this place to anybody that wants to start working out and needs the motivation. After this experience I don’t think I will be able to go back to a regular gym.

Great gym. Very focused on community. Welcoming to all and always happy to scale all activities based on your abilities. My favorite coaches are Erin and Stephen (and Mike when he gets back), but all the coaches here are good. Honestly, the CrossFit experience is all about the coaches. Having a great coach makes all the difference, and you will find that here.

I found out about this place through the New You 6-week challenge. I was skeptical that I could even finish the challenge because I was so out of shape and hadnt worked out in quite a long time. Right from the start I could tell that the staff here were great at what they did and were able to make you feel like you wanted to be there. Ive worked out in the past and thought I knew what a good workout was. That was until I came here. The workouts we did for the first 6 weeks were extremely difficult and a couple times I was thinking to myself what did i get myself into? But i can say that not once did i regret showing up post-workout and i have never felt dissatisfied driving home after an intense workout. I have a lot of work to do (I chose to sign up for another month) but from not being able to actually finish the workouts properly to finishing them everytime is quite an accomplish for me.If you are on the fence about whether or not this is something you want to do, I would say go for it. The staff will work with your specific needs and they are super nice. There is a sense of camaraderie with your fellows after finishing the workouts together and the accountability is there as well.

No joke, this gym has changed my life. I went from inactive and depressed/jaded to active and energized. Everyone (coaches and Theother attendees) is super supportive. The coaches are great. They explain the moves clearly and provide individual attention when needed. Theres a wide range of abilities among attendees for any class, but everyone gets a workout that works for them through modifiers. And the workouts are short and effective. Im in and out in under an hour, but my fitness level and overall health have improved dramatically. I cant say enough good things about NOVA CrossFit and strongly recommend it.

I moved here from California a few years ago. In California I participated in a Boot Camp that was supportive nurturing and gently held me accountable for my progress. I’d looked for that type of environment here and was unable to find it until I found NOVA. NOVA is like a family. They love you up and yet they hold you accountable for you to be your best based on who you identified yourself to be. I’ve fallen off the horse a few times and I would get periodic calls from the staff at NOVA, not to badger me but to check on me and remind me who I know I am. I appreciated that. I’m back at Boot Camp. Although I hate getting up early to go, I look forward to seeing the staff and my fellow campers whom I’ve established a supportive relationship. Thanks Erin and NOVA!Debra TJ

I will continue with NOVA as long as I live in the area. The coaches are all very supportive, knowledgeable and always there to help you with your growth. The atmosphere at NOVA is always positive and encouraging from coaches, to those of us working hard together. The gym has its pros certainly. The facility and equipment is great, and the staff is very welcoming to you as you begin. There is also plentiful parking. However, the cons are not as easy to see when you are first signing up, please beware:Cost -This is an expensive gym any way you slice it. On top of that, make sure that you are going to be with the gym for an entire year or else you will pay dearly. I even signed up as a month to month member and was charged a $370 cancellation fee in addition to an extra month of membership even though I had been paying a higher rate all along for the supposed privilege of quitting early or taking a month off as my job requires a lot of travel. This membership was not honored. Please do not make the same mistake.Music -The music is repetitive, and not to my liking. This one is sort of a personal preference, but I assume there are others out there who have trouble working out to 80s pop ballads on loop.Issues with owners -If I was alone on this one, I wouldnt even bring it up. However, I know that many members have had issues with the owners. My obvious issue was over the cancellation fee. Before that however, I was aggressively and oddly confronted of working against their community building. This to me is somewhat laughable. I worked with these owners to introduce them to my favorite yoga instructor when they mentioned that they were looking for one - they hired her to great success, I offered to run a course for members based on a skill set I have. I participated in pot lucks, and made many friends at the gym.Additionally, more importantly than any of my personal issues is that they dont really seem to care about their athletes or staff. Nearly all of the highest performing athletes, initially drawn by the great facility, have left the gym.If you arent doing boot camp, good luck -The boot camp classes take over the space. All other activities are treated as second class. If you are doing boot camp, good luck -Full disclosure - I have only watched this from the sidelines, but my perception is that the coaching is sub par and injuries are prevalent. Participants are not encouraged to push themselves.

Good place with good people. Excellent sense of community.Erin and Sarah run an effective gym and are extremely knowledgeable and conscientious of proper form and technique. That awareness and their approach separates them from the other gyms that routinely set people up to injure themselves. Also, Todd T. is an excellent trainer. Extremely knowledgeable and focused in his approach. He seems to be able to identify weaknesses on a very minute scale and address them directly. I have used online trainers who simply give you cookie cutter programs, Todd customizes a plan for you exactly based on what you need. Its the level of training Id imagine at a tier1 college athletics team or maybe even pro sports. I doubt Ill encounter another trainer like Todd any time soon.

Full disclosure, this is my gym and I do love it. The reasons how come are endless but let me tell you about the few biggies. The community is wonderful with an endless amount of support. Fitness and fun with friends. It provides both accountability and a helping hand to push through that what may seem like an endless training session. Safety is top priority. Our motto is we want you to be able to come tomorrow and training again. Of course there is encouragement to lift more, go a little faster in the workout to increase your intensity and do one more rep. But that is all under close supervision by the trained staff. We get to know you as an athlete, know your strength and weakness, know when you are having a good day or a bad day. Allowing us to be there when you need us and step off when you dont. 5 disciplines under one roof. CrossFit, Strongman, Boot Camp, Personal Training and Olympic Lifting. Experienced trainers on staff anytime the gym is open. Come and see by yourself!

I started with a good base of upper body strength from regular weight-lifting, but here Ive learned a lot of new skills (Olympic lifts, rope climbing, tire flips, etc.) plus my endurance is way higher, I look leaner, and my lower body and core strength have improved dramatically. They put a lot of emphasis on nutritional education, joint and muscle mobility, and using correct form to keep you in good overall condition. The atmosphere is great, and they also offer Strongman and Olympic Lifting Programs, and Yoga. Sarah and Erin both have extensive knowledge of proper form and technique, which is crucial for a good CrossFit program. They both make time for their athletes, as well. I was injured a year ago, and both Erin and Sarah scheduled time for me to come in and do mobility with them regularly. I ended up joining the coaching staff, as I believed in NOVAs mission and goals, as well as the work they do with their clients. I have been a member of NOVA Strength and Conditioning since August 2015. Before joining I attended a commercial gym and spent several months searching for a Crossfit box to join in the DC Metro area. I chose NOVA Strength and Conditioning because it was the only box to offer three disciplines (Crossfit, Olympic lifting and Strongman) and I am happy to say that I made the right choice. The facility is awesome and the equipment is top notch, but what really makes this place so amazing are the owners, coaches and members. The environment and camaraderie that you find here is really special and allows you to build the confidence and willpower to push yourself to new limits. The training, coaching and guidance are hands down professional and educational. You learn something new every day. Since I started coming here I have broken so many personal records and have put up weights that I never thought I could do. For those of you reading this review and are looking specifically for a Strongman training center, NOVA Strength and Conditioning is the premier facility in the area and has equipment that most other Strongman centers lack. The Crossfit and Olympic lifting programs are also top notch and I am excited to try Olympic lifting next. I guarantee that anyone who comes here once will be hooked and never look back at another gym/box.

It is hard to explain or quantify what this gym has meant to me already, in the approximately 11 month time period during which Ive been attending. I have always loved sports and have known myself to be athletic, but Ive never felt at home or particularly comfortable in any gym. I had basically given up on gyms when my rugby team (myself begrudgingly included) did some work with Sarah, Erin, and their team of coaches last winter. The patience, attention, and coaching I experienced during those sessions convinced me that I could become a much fitter, stronger athlete and more effective rugby player, if I put in the work. I also realized that it is okay to have a little help; and the coaches and the community at NOVA S&C were just what I needed to learn more about how to work out most effectively to achieve my goals. I signed up for Crossfit and I havent looked back; every week I get to see one of my favorite people/coaches bright and early, to do the work I need and am excited to do.So, while I cant recommend Crossfit or gyms in general to everyone, I can recommend THIS GYM and these coaches to everyone, because they built a community here where people care about and look out for each other, and thats what keeps me coming back-- not the amount of equipment or programming (though they also rate excellently in these aspects as well). In addition, I know many folks worry that with Crossfit comes the risk of energy-- yes anytime you do anything athletic/exercise, then you do have that risk-- but the coaches and owners at NOVA S&C are more than just nice, they are also sticklers about form, to ensure the safety of all athletes, but especially those of us who are still learning the techniques and body positioning. In the end, its just a good place to drop-in at, check out, and see if they work for you, I hope to see you at the gym soon! It is very much one of my favorite places to be.

I have been a member of NOVA CrossFit for about 5 months now and I am extremely pleased with my experience there. Im a former collegiate athlete, I have about 1.5 years of crossfit experience, and when I moved back home to VA in May 2015, I was searching for a box that offered very flexible schedules, as well as an Olympic lifting program/club. I was very lucky in finding that NOVA is close to my house, has very flexible open gym hours that work with my schedule, and offers Olympic lifting classes (as well as Strongman classes). The Olympic lifting, Strongman, and crossfit programs all have a wide range of individuals, from beginners to national competitors, its awesome to always be surrounded by such a diverse group of people. I am so thankful to have such great and supportive coaches - I spend the most time with Tom, the Oly coach, and Ive already seen great (and tangible) improvements in my lifts/strength in about 5 months time. The other coaches within the box are always there for advice and support, and they create such a positive environment that allows everyone to grow and reach his/her potential. I would recommend this box to anyone of any fitness level - it is such a welcoming place and offers a lot more than your typical crossfit box. Also, the box often holds group events/fun things are always being planned, there is a large sense of community created by the coaches. Its an awesome place to be!
