Unfortunately, this place has the facilities and amenities to be great, but it still comes up subpar. It has a lot to do with how the staff speak to customers and members. I recently was amazed when a young girl, Juli, who stated she’s the assistant manager, was completely rude and rolling her eyes at me. I literally have only been a member for two weeks, and mistakenly brought an ice coffee with me. I thought because it was hot and they don’t sell that, it would be okay. Instead I had this twenty something kid berate me for it, even after I apologized and threw it out. Upon entering the outside pool,I found a group of Hispanic women drinking wine. I couldn’t get over that I was told to thrown mine out yet they had wine from a bottle they brought. I first thought maybe this Juli girl just didn’t care for me, but then I saw her be horribly rude to an very elderly female member and then a young family who were hotel guests. After they left, she proceeded to talk about them and roll her eyes, and make gestures with the general pool manager.I was astonished that this girl and her supervisor could be so rude yet still hold a job. I brought my concerns to the general manager, David, who seemed like he could care less. What’s sad is I’m planning my wedding and was really interested in having the reception at the Heritage, which is why I joined as a member. Now I am going to look at an alternate venue after I’ve seen how the customers are treated. I would be horrified if my wedding guests were to be treated badly by the rude assistant manager and manager of the pool. I would imagine that’s how all the staff treat guests there if the two main ones act that way.
I used the Riverwalk Athletic Club while staying at the Heritage Hotel. I enjoyed using the facility. Indoor salt swimming pool wasn’t too big, but it’s sufficient. There’s an outdoor pool, but it was winter during my visit. Treadmills, elliptical, weights, free-weight, stretching, etc., there’s quite a few options. Jacuzzi, wet & dry sauna, showers, towels were provided. There’s a lot to like about this place. 👍 Staffs were helpful and friendly. Definitely would stay at this hotel again since it’ll give me access to this facility.
My favorite place
Members don’t receive many benefits. Difficult to swim when there are swim classes going on for Noah’s Ark, and pool is often cold and not taken care of. Most of the desk staff are nice except Christina. She goes out of her way to be rude to members, although we are paying top dollar to use facility. Our fees should result in a warmer pool, and better staff. Kids aren’t allowed to use the jacuzzi, fitness equipment, or sauna/steam room, but are still expected to pay a normal guest pass fee. The manager takes no direction from members or hotel guests on how the staff is.
The Riverwalk Health Club is advertised as a relaxing place to unwind, but thats not what members experience. They rent out the small indoor pool for childrens swim classes from 2 PM until early evening Monday through Friday. This leaves room for only two adults to swim comfortably. With the loud screaming, splashing, and kids jumping in the water, you cant have a relaxing swim or enjoy a nice soak in the hot tub. Its as noisy and crowded as a YMCA. Hotel management will not consider discontinuing the swim classes so these problems will continue. Unfortunately, pool maintenance is very poor. The water is extremely cloudy, and the filtering system is not functioning properly because there is hair floating in the water and dirt and debris accumulating at the bottom of the pool.
Locker rooms do not have sufficient seating. Shower area should have privacy curtains prior to each shower entrance. It’s understandable that because it’s also a hotel, the pools may get unexpectedly busy, however the indoor pool is almost completely unavailable weekdays from 9:30-12:30 due to water aerobics classes and they blast their music the whole time. I took a day off to relax at the pool and that’s what I walked into. In addition, they hold swim classes for children approximately 4:00-6:00 pm. I really like the club however these things are discouraging for me personally. I have heard several others say the same thing. :(
