Trainers are friendly and nice, well the ones that were once there (they have all left) New manager is super unfriendly and rude!! Corporate is horrible too to deal with. Get that cancelation confirmation in writing they will keep charging you even after you request a cancelation in person. Also for a place that has so much office space why does the neon dressed trainer use the stairs as his office, camp, and storage area?

During a recent cold morning, i recently decided to get ahead of my news years resolutions a make the commitment to lose this covid weight that i unfortunately gained. Walking into the gym, i was instantly welcomed by a Sam from the front desk. I was amazed about the effort the gym staff put in with their holiday decorations. There was lights everywhere and they even had a tree! All the equipment was very spread out and everyone wore masks at all times. The gym was not crowded at all which was great. Since joining, i have already got in a good routine, lost 3 lbs, and regained some lost confidence : ) Would highly recommend this gym to anyone looking to change their life in a positive way!

I have been trying for 2 1/2 years to get off the call list for BSC. I was in for training with a team 2x. But never had a membership. I live in CONNECTICUT. My address is CT and phone number. I respect the tenacity for trying to build membership up especially after Covid shut down, but I’m a GM of another boutique studio in CT and understand when someone asks to be taken off a call list, we take them off.I spoke with Jake all but a few weeks ago to have all of my contact information removed yet I still keep getting calls and texts. I’d never treat any of my trials like this...Don’t bother ever going in for a trial, you’ll be harassed forever!

This gym was extremely well run prior to COVID (new turf, improved layout, re-upholstered machines), and they have been very impressive after re-opening. Everything is remarkably clean and a lot of thought clearly went into re-doing the gym layout to promote social distancing without needing to eliminate a ton of equipment. Ive tried out quite a few gyms over the last month or two, and this is easily the best and safest Ive felt at any of them. Staff are friendly, professional, and helpful. Very glad this gym is finally back!

Ive been going to the Davis Square location for over 3 years and have to say, it can be great at times, but then you get reminded of how poorly the club is managed and wonder why you pay so much for so little.Today (01/29/2020) the Davis locaiton did not open untill after 6:30AM (posted hours are 5:30AM). I can appreciate the moring opener had an emergency but the fact that the GM does not have more than 1 employee open the gym every morning, and there is no alternate in the event of illness/emergency is astounding. Add to the fact that after calling all the other gyms in Boston (who dont have the GMs contact info), another employee got to Davis before the GM, and this is at 6:30AM!I pay $70/month (just so you know, they increase your rate every year by $5.00) and standing outside in 32* temps for an hour does not seem to be $70/month quality.Id like to report that this is a one-off but this location has a history of poor quality, from messy locker rooms (see pictures) to the gym being closed while being an absolute mess. Again - I dont think $70/month quality involves spending my first 20 mins re-racking weights and clearing the space of empty water bottles and used towels from the night before.Ive tried multiple times to bring this up and the buck gets passed along - I highly recomend looking anywhere else if you can, this location alone is the only reason I still go but have started looking at alternates closer to work. If you are deciding between BSC and another gym, choose the other and save your money.

I have been going here for a few years and always loved all of the trainers in the classes. However, with a pandemic going on I put my membership on freeze. I was shocked to start being charged again in October, without restarting my membership. Andrew Zappala told me that because he said See you when the club reopens! at the end of his email to freeze my account that was enough for them to start recharging my account months after they had reopened without any notice. How can someone genuinely think that is a valid confirmation of a restart date? Also why wasnt I notified that my account would be unfrozen and charged the day the club reopened if that was actually a valid statement?I then sent in a written letter to cancel my membership, and was told I had a $10 cancel fee, which i provided a card for, and that there was a 45 day wait period. What is not clearly explained is the cancel fee is actually $10, AND TWO MONTHS DUES, because of the 45 day period where you can happily still enjoy the services why would I want to use something 45 days after I sent in a written letter to cancel it? Why would any of this not be clearly stated? Also how can the management genuinely think that continuing to charge people after they asked to cancel is the right thing to do? Especially in a global pandemic, where not everyone wants to go work out indoors with other people and risk their health. Because this place is shady, and doesnt want that to be clear. So they create convoluted contracts. In conclusion, if you dont mind getting screwed over, go for the trainers because theyre awesome and deserve to work in a better gym that treats everyone better than this company and its henchmen do currently.

A shady and unethical business. They have been charging me (and many other people) monthly and annual fees totalling well over $100 at a time when the gym has been closed for months. After youve opened a membership, good luck closing it. You cannot close it over the phone, you cannot close it online, you cannot close it via email. No, you have to go in person or send a certified (!) letter. Then they charge you a $10 cancellation fee. Unethical and illegal, but they dont care. The Attorney General is going after BSC for these exact reasons. Buyer beware.

I had my concerns as i am in my 60s and am considered high risk.I decided to walk in again as i was in the square anyways and boy was i happy i did. I was immediately greeted by the current GM Paul. Ive been a member for nearly a decade and still got the runaround when trying to cancel my membership during a pandemic. Asking people to either physically come to the gym during a pandemic or pay to send certified mail to cancel is insane. Theres absolutely no reason for them to accept a cancellation request via physical mail but not email, except for their own predatory practices. They will milk as much money out of you as they can. There is a good reason the state Attorney General had to get involved. Pick another gym, its not worth it.

SHADY and GREEDY. I’ve had memberships with three different fitness center companies, and BSC is the worst experience I’ve ever had. I called and tried to contact them in March to cancel/postpone our membership due to the pandemic, was still charged for April [they were closed]. When the gyms re-opened, I went in person and asked them to cancel our membership. They cancelled mine, but left on my add-on, Marissa, and continued to charge me for Oct, Nov, Dec. I called again today and they refused to refund me the money even though I asked them to cancel it months ago AND we haven’t used their facility since pre-pandemic. We don’t even live in Somerville anymore. I do NOT recommend. Worst experience.

I was eager to try a gym club here with the New Years resolution... when I subscribed I went in contact with Megan and we tried to schedule an appointment for my first complimentary session but they never had someone available. I asked several times, it lasted a month, then I lost the envy to go there regarding how difficult it was to schedule my first session so I asked to cancel my membership to the same Megan and she said I had to come to the gym which was not convenient for me. I finally found the time when she told me to come before 5pm because her manager Paul was living after that. So I met Paul who wasn’t understanding at all and didn’t care. I’ve been subscribed since the end of December, they charged for January and February even though I said several times that I wanted to cancel my subscription and now I’m just learning that I have to pay fees for the cancellation and that my subscription will be running for 45 days still and that I will pay next month...It’s a joke!!! TSI/BSC handled closing due to Covid terribly, and I remain unimpressed with their reopening. They claimed that all members got emails about the reopening plan, credits due from the closing, and future billing, both from the Davis branch and from TSI. I didnt receive any of that communication, and was still awaiting word on what their plan was. Much to my surprise, I have a pending charge from BSC for my September dues, most of which had been covered by the credit I should have received from their closing in March. Despite there still being a global pandemic, they havent updated their cancellation policy of needing to cancel in person or write a certified letter that then takes 45 days to process.TSI continues to show how little they care about customers or working with you when they are in error.EDIT: For what its worth - apparently the reason I didnt receive any emails was because I had opted out of marketing emails months ago. Which is honestly just such a poor implementation, that if you opt out of marketing emails you dont receive any other informational emails ever. When I was on the phone with a rep from the gym initially, I was assured I wouldnt have any additional fees upon cancellation and that it would just be zeroed out. A minute after walking out of the gym having cancelled, I get a receipt for a $10 cancellation charge. TSI/BSC is truly the worst company Ive interacted with in the duration of Covid.EDIT 2: Unsurprisingly, following up via email got me nowhere and was just routed back to the people I had spoken to in the first place. The real kicker is I cancelled my membership on the 25th/26th... and then got charged for the month of October 5 days later. Class act BSC.EDIT 3: THEY JUST FREAKING CHARGED ME AGAIN ON A RANDOM DATE, A MONTH AFTER I CANCELLED. Maybe a lawsuit is what it would take to end this level of incompetence and malicious intent. Infuriating.

As everyone came to see clearly during their Covid response, BSC is a scam of a company. After freezing my account during the months that the Davis Square location was closed due to the pandemic, they recently reopened and started charging everyone again, even though my account was frozen. I called them to ask why my account was unfrozen and they said because the location had reopened. Not letting you cancel via the phone, I went in to cancel in person. While waiting for the manager to cancel my membership over a period of about 10 minutes, there were 5-6 people who came into the gym. Each one tried to use the temperature reader attached to the wall, but it didnt work for any of them, however they were eventually waved in, regardless of their temperature. No hand sanitizer anywhere in the lobby or exit. They couldnt keep paper towels stocked in the bathroom pre-pandemic, so Im sure its a petrie dish. Theyre strictly open again to take advantage of their horrible policies, theyre not interested in keeping anyone safe. But this isnt surprising from a company that was charging people months into a pandemic, until the state attorney general had to intervene. Got an email this morning that theyre filing for bankruptcy. I hope they go out of business and get replaced by a gym that has some semblance of a conscious.

Let me preface by saying I never leave reviews of places and am generally easy going and understanding that mistakes happen. Unfortunately have to echo many of the bad reviews on here regarding customer service. I’ve been going there for approximately three years now and had no complaints. It’s always clean and the trainers are all friendly. However I was hit by a car back in early July and called to freeze my account as I needed surgery with an estimated six month recovery time. I was told it’s typically a monthly charge to freeze the account, but because it’s an injury, the fee would be waived. A month later I got a $15 charge, so I call and they tell me it’s a one time charge for freezing the account. Now a month later, I got charged another $15. I went by and the explained the situation to the general manager who was unsympathetic and took no accountability for the staff’s mistake. He asked if I had any emails as evidence, however it was all (unfortunately) communicated over the phone. Had I been accurately informed from the start, I would have canceled as soon as the injury occurred instead of paying $15/month for six months. You will likely be satisfied with the gym until it’s time to leave for whatever reason it may be, at which point they’ll show their true colors. Highly advise against this gym that values profitability over honesty and fairness.Update: I reached out after receiving the below comment and was offered a free fitness consultation. Thanks, but I want the $30 I was scammed out of back and for BSC to adjust their policy so theyre not exploiting their members when they get HIT BY A CAR.

What my contract states is that they can change fees after giving notice to me-which was never done either by certified mail or through email as they claim. There is zero accountability on their part and customer service is basically non-existent. She was courteous and very nice, as she was overwhelmed by people trying to check in and trying to help me. A manager on her way out explained that they would charged me a $10.00 cancelation fee and charge me for another month and a half, even though I signed up for a month to month. Which is not a lot of money, but is just ridiculous on principle. It was also not in my original membership agreement. The manager had no time to explain it more, because she wasn’t even supposed to be working (not her fault). Advice to owners/upper management, use the extra month and a half you’re billing people for to pay to adequately staff your business during peak hours. Advice in general, don’t sign up for this gym and if you do expect to be paying far longer and more than your agreement states.Update: The help that was offered here yielded nothing and Ive just discovered they are still charging me for a locker. Every time I call no one can help, and theyll get back to me. Sigh...

Gym is well-sized, although often crowded due to centralized location. A good amount of cardio equipment and the vast majority was in working condition. There is a 45 day required notice, but other than that, cancelling my membership was a smooth process.

The gym itself is clean, and the equipment was updated and repaired regularly while I was a member there. It cost me $50/mo to get a pass for all of Boston, though I had friends that were able to get the full chain pass for that much, so try to barter.Still hits you with the same BS fees as every other gym: annual fees and cancellation fees, so factor that in to your monthly budget.Cancellations must be given in person during week day hours 45 days in advance. Because you know, thats necessary.

Clean and well maintained gym in an unbeatable location. The sales staff is helpful and friendly. The weight equipment is fairly limited as there are only 2 squat racks and 1 regular bench. But depending on the time of day it is usually not very crowded there.

This Sports club has all the bells and whistles as far as equiptment and programs however, The STaff are horrible. They put unexperianced staff at the front desk like ( Em ) Who will tell you they do not know when her supervisors are comming in to work. ( Em) Tells you that someone will call you back but they never do. If you show the least bit of frustration over the phone to her she will tell you she does not like your tone and shuts the conversation down. She is seriously lacking in the customer service department . Never give this sports club your debit card to pay a bill because they will take money that you do not authorise in a flash,

Again this morning, which happens once or twice a month. No one shows up for open at 5:30 AM. People linger about like lost souls as some or most also shower there on their way to work. The sad part is you always believe and hope that in the next two minutes someone will show up. At 5:30 they never show up a little late. They are luck Jere is no competition near by. Please do better

I am very disappointed with BSC Davis. I had been a long-standing member, had taken a hiatus for a couple of years and was looking to come back. I called to sign up, was confirmed at a set monthly rate after discussing with the membership consultant. The GM just needed to call me back, to take my payment info. I never got a call back, so I called to check in, and I was told by the membership consultant that the rate I was quoted was erroneous and could not be granted. The same membership consultant gave me a different but still, unacceptable rate (imo) as I had been given a confirmed quote of half that before. When I complained to upper mgmt, as this seemed to me like bad business practice, I was told there was no budging AND the rate that could be given was more than the highest rate the membership consultant had given as a final number. BSC get your sh!t together! You’ve lost me as a member for life. And I hope this helps others to decide not to come back too; you don’t deserve my money or the money of others who are looking to join/re-join. Total shitshow.

I am updating my review... the hassle to get your membership cancelled or changed is not totally worth it. Twice i had asked them to freeze my accounts and both times i was charged full for the month. Had to go constantly talk to them to get the fees changed to the freeze fees. Finally cancelled the membership and now i keep getting these emails from them where they would waive my yearly fees to get me back to join. Alas thats not happening. Please beware of this gym. When you want to join they will promise you the stars but they dont deliver on it.

Great gym. A little crowded after work, but theres enough to do if you are assertive. Hate to see people sitting at a machine and checking their phones. If you are at a machine use it or get lost. Ive got no time to wait for you to send SMS. Yep, thats what I mean by being assertive to get your needs met during peak hours. Classes also fill up super fast if you can only book 12 hrs in advance. (Like within 5 min of 12 hrs prior). Still a great gym for the price. And its kept clean considering the activity level.

Update 4/12/21 - It has been three years and they are still contacting me. I’m now being told by the branch “it’s corporate doing it.” Well corporate is using a blocked number to leave robo voicemails. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANYDid a one day complimentary pass to check the gym out, it was small and cramped and definitely not worth the money. It has been over 8 months since and no matter how hard I try, I cannot get them to stop calling/texting me. PLEASE LEAVE ME ALONE. And for everyone else, go a stop down to the Porter planet fitness. Wayyyyy nicer and less than half the price.

Location: 10/10Cleanliness: 4/10Equipment Upkeep: 4/10Value: 3/10If you live in the Davis area and need something convenient this location is hard to beat, however value for money is on par with VOSS water. BSC is pumping another $5/month fee increase and the paper towel and hand soap dispensers in the men’s room have been out of order for over 11 months - where’s the $5 going? While i enjoy using shower gel for soap in the sinks and toilet paper to dry my hands this may not be for everyone, especially for over $60/month.Additionally the gym is a mess in the mornings, the closing crew must not do a walk-through to re-rack weights and pick up towels because the gym is littered with bottles, towels and loose weights every morning. If this gym wasn’t literally on my commute route I’d consider other options, also avoid the annual memberships here as cancelling requires more paperwork than a student loan.Do better BSC.- AM staff are always professional and an exception to otherwise poor value.

Stay away from this gym. I cancelled back in January and BSC keeps calling me saying my account is overdue. They will do whatever it takes to steal your money and do nothing to help you out. If you want the hassle and loss of money by joining here, go for it. However, better gyms, with better management, with better equipment, more space, and better memberships exist!! STAY AWAY FROM BSC!!!

The hours are inconvienient (closes at 9pm!) the facilities are overcrowded and I was charged an egregious cancelation fee of $45 for my no contract, monthly membership! I do not recommend them, and Im only posting a review after telling a manager at closing to remove me from their system and a month later getting an email from the manager offering me limited time deals! Its a very badly run gym

Ive been a member of this gym for close to two years. During this time key equipment continued to be broken (ellipticals, for example) with signs suggesting repairs are coming (but over a year later, they did not and the elliticals at best feel like grinding coffee.)The staff at the gym are highly disinterested in helping you out, having noted the issue many times, I received the same non-committal answer. Finally they raised the price monthly by 10$ without providing me any notice. My credit card alerted me. When coming to cancel their manager reiterated that contractually BSC can raise the price whenever they want to and wouldnt even wave the cancelation fee.

This BSC is incredible. Not only is it in the heart of Davis Square, the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. I go to the gym every day and I can honestly say that this gym gives me a sense of community and offers two levels of equipment to work with. Being a young person in the Somerville area, it is awesome to have people working out with be around my own age. Ive made several friends at this gym. Not only that- I met my boyfriend here! Great gym. Great equipment. Awesome people. Awesome location.

Decent sized gym in a great location, but seems like theres always equipment broken here for a long period of time without getting fixed. Seeing an out of order sign on a treadmill for weeks is not uncommon. It also tends to get really crowded, which makes it even more frustrating when all the equipment isnt available.

I am a member of the Wellington BSC, but have gone here a couple times. Its not nearly as nice as the Wellington location because its about 1/3 the size. Its quite small (especially the studios for classes), and its all metered parking. That being said, its a clean gym, the staff is friendly and its in a convenient location if you live in that area. I cant go here anymore though, because I would just go to Annas every time.

The free weights are the only redeeming quality, other then that I experienced nothing but excuses, bad customer service and a HUGE waste of money. The gym practices unethical sales tactics. I was bombarded with phone calls. I was also given multiple offers and total I would be able to get multiple different rates. I was told that I was being given the best possible discount, only to find that a friend of mine was able to get better price because they threatened to leave. The process was both annoying and dishonest. If you have no other choice but use this gym, then MAKE SURE YOU HAGGLE WITH THEM.The gym constantly has broken machines 30-50% of the treadmills where broken when I walked in. This paired with the fact the gym is always crowded makes it difficult to find machines. When I say always crowded I mean it, from open to close the gym is packed. The member of the gym who signed me up did not explain the terms and conditions and was more eager to get my signature then to actually help me. I paid upfront for year, after the year had passed I found that my credit card was being charged without my consent. When I discovered that my credit was being charged without my knowledge I called to immediately terminate my membership. After I called and left several messages for a manager, I was eventually able to get ahold of William. If I had not persistently called, I would not have been able to get ahold of him. Despite my the multiple voicemails and messages I left for the front desk it was ultimately me getting lucky that a manager answer the phone that I was able to speak with one.William was rude and not interested in finding the cause of the problem with the gym. During the phone call he sighed loudly into the phone, sorry to bother you, I just want to know why YOUR CHARGING ME MONEY WITH MY CONSENT. I was able to cancel the membership, but will be subject to extra charges. Overall I thought the situation was handled very poorly. William clearly did not care about my business. If your looking for a gym you should look elsewhere. Davis Square BSC will taking your money not providing a quality experience.
