I had dropped a piece of plastic in my gas tank and spoke to I believe a guy named Jason ( very nice)and he gave me a quote for around 500 to 600 I mentioned I was having trouble opening my door and he said they would fix that for free, I have a friend that goes to them but said he couldnt say if they were good because they just changed oil in his vehicle so I decided to go there because the person I talked to on phone seemed nice! Long story short I got a call from Sue 2 days later telling me I needed oil change tune up and 3 bulbs fixed totaling to 1300 I gave permission to do the work and asked to have tires rotated while it was there, they had car 2 weeks went to pick up and one bulb was not working so they changed right away then drove home and oil light came on I had to go out of town for a week so parked it and came home started it up and bulb was out and oil light was still coming on so brought back to garage and was told the think I need a new oil sensor and didnt want to put another bulb in because he thought needed a new connector, so I will be going elsewhere! Also was charged 112 dollars to fix door and no mention of tire rotation on receipt ! Sue was very condescending on phone when I called to let her know my bulb was out and oil light was on!

On Monday the 22nd of February I dropped my truck off with some hesitation issues, it ran fine but stuttered in acceleration. On Wednesday I called to see if it would be done before the weekend, I needed the truck. The lady at the front desk answered, and said oh I was going to call youI have your the list of item from the mechanic, but I havent had a chance to put together a bid. She read a laundry list of items from transmission flush, brakes are pulsating, oil change, I said no I can save you some time on the quote, I dont want those things. I just want to fix the issue I brought it in for, and you can do the license plate light, the platinum intake service, the plugs, serpentine belt, and the bad coil. I figured it would be around $500, but Id bite the bullet and have it done. I never received a quote for the work that was being done, just a call to say the truck will be done this afternoon, and if you want the airbag light off it will be another $173. I asked how much is it now, she said its $1,229, and with the pretensioner for the airbag it will be $14hundred and something, but at that point I wasnt really listening. I was flabbergasted that they had run up a bill of over a thousand dollars without a quoted price. I did some research on amazon of the parts needed to do the work, which came to a whopping $140.36. I understand being in business, just not in the business of screwing your customers. It was the first time I ever visited the business, and the last.

Extreme prices for basic stuff, go elsewhere or do it yourself

If a place is hurting for money, they shouldnt take it out on their customers.

They ultimately fixed our issues but never called and told me what was going on until the work was done the bill was ready 🤔 never approved any work they just did what they felt needed to be done without consent or conversation.

I now will only take my cars to this place and no matter where I live in WA, I‘ll travel hours for a business that provides great service and is trustworthy. I recently purchased a vehicle. The vehicle wasnt producing heat like it should. I did a little research and narrowed the problem down to the heater core. Vander Wals Garage was the 5th auto repair shop I called for an estimate on heater core replacement. It was the only shop that asked what was the issues I was having and offered an alternate solution, thoroughly explaining all the steps be conducted. The alternate solution worked saving me $800+. Im a very satisfied customer.

Came in to find out why my old vehicle was over heating, instead of charging me an enormous amount to fix the vehicle (kinda knew it was on its last legs anyway) they instead informed me that they suggest getting a new vehicle. The customer service was fantastic and very fast.

Vander Wals is the best ever!!!! Theyre super honest and they have the best prices anywhere. I needed a power steering pump and they quoted me $150 less than anyone else in town. Plus, they really go out of their way for you. They dropped me off and picked up from my home that is 20 minutes away. I recently took my Honda Accord to them and they charged atleast $150 cheaper than anywhere in town! This family-owned business is definitely your best choice if youre looking for honest and thorough mechanics with great family values. Sue, the mother and secretary of the shop, graciously offered to take me home after I dropped off my car and give me a ride back to the shop when it was done! never have I been treated so kindly and or accommodated for from any of my former mechanics all over washington. no joke. Nice people, but wont be going back. When I called to ask to have my truck looked at regarding a power steering problem, Sue(owner) was very nice. She said it will be looked at and ready by 2ish with answers. 2 came and went and I was gonna need my truck for the week. I called and she said it hasnt been looked at and I dropped it off at 9am. I finally went down there at 4:30, truck still where I parked it. Spoke to I am guessing the owner, he said he would check it out cause at this point I needed results and my car back.He checked it out and said it was a steering rack problem, then they said it was gonna be close to $900 to fix it. Never explained anything else about it, gave me no sheet with an estimate, just the receipt of my cost of $35. For looking at my truck for 10 mins. Sue asked when I got paid next and she would schedule me, like I had no other option.They were nice people, but I wasnt happy with their service or how they didnt explain anything.

I have a1986 Ford Lariat, 302cid, they found and repaired the water system. The price was very good and the truck was finished in a shorter time then I expected. Thank you Vander Wall.

Just needed a bearing pressed in and they wanted to charge 75 dollars! I endes upbdoing it my self with a vice...

DONT GO TO THIS SHOP!!!!! My 84 year old grandmother needed a tune-up...2 days later she got her car back with a $832.88 bill...Id love to say they at least found some major problem to explain the cost but they didnt. This is an 84 year old woman who drives to the store and back twice a month in a 2002 Volkswagen with 46026 miles on it.

I have had my share of lying, manipulating, cheating mechanics and these people are not that!! They are HONEST, dependable and nothing as these bad reviews say.They are not upselling you when ADVISING what needs to be done besides the bandaide you want to place on your problem.I have confidently spent $5K dollars with them in 3 months and never questioned them once.You get what you pay for in this world and thats hard to find.If you want a mechanic to smile and quote you a small fee, just know that NOTHINGS FREE and IF IT SOUNDS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE IT IS!I will NEVER go anywhere else!!!

Poor communication on getting a quote for my car.

On a road trip on my Harley, my kick stand spring came off and I had to hold it in place with a rope....ackward & unsafe to ride the remaining distance to Portland, I decided to pull off the 101 & ride into Shelton on the fluke there was a MC shop------I asked a few local walkers & they directed me to a place up the hill south of town but they were closed so as I started to wander the side streets I found Vander Wals and asked a mechanic there if by chance he could help me. with a smile he looked at it and said yep, I think we can. With that he asked me to wait a second and the owner came out & took a look and said be back in a minute, asked me to help hold the bike at an angle and in a few minutes had it on. I asked what the charges were and he said no charge, glad to help! WOW this just doesnt happen in todays world, Wow how refreshing to find a place like this.....if I lived in Shelton, these guys would do all my work! and to top it off Mrs. V referred me to the best little Strip Steakhouse down the street where I found a fresh cup of coffee and prime rib sandwich----yum!Made my trip rememorable for sure! Thanks!
