Great place to get your car fixed. AJ is right to the point and quick with his work, he lets you know what you need and what you dont and doesnt try to push you to spring for unnecessary expensive repairs. Pricing is very reasonable, even a bit cheaper than some other places Ive been to. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a place to get something worked on theyve been putting off or if youre in a quick pinch, they even do towing!

First time doing emissions there and it was so easy! The women who did the testing was very nice, fast and was in and out. Would highly recommended!

2 ladies at the front counter. The younger one was very nice. The older lady is terribly rude and a complete Karen. You really shouldnt put people at the front desk that dont know how to talk to people most of the negative comments are about her.

I want to commend AJ of AJ Auto Service for his friendly and compassionate service when he towed my car out of a snow bank, distant from my home,after a snowstorm when three other apathetic local towing services AND even AAA “Motor Club” refused to provide assistance.Not only did he tow my car, but he also picked me up at my home to do personal business,and then drove me back,before towing the car to my mechanic. This saved me the time and inconvenience of a round trip to and from the mechanic! That is top notch service rarely ever seen!

Front Desk person Absolutely Rude!!!!.. I Believe if your going to have a place of business Put someone at front desk that has mannerism..Understanding that we’re in the midst of a pandemic where social distancing & cleanliness is key, but there is no reason for the uncalled & unprofessional manner I was treated especially when your supporting a business.. I recommend you need emissions or anything done to your car find a better place of business to go to!!!

Went in for emissions test which was very fast less than 20 minutes, while waiting had a fun time there with great conversation with the two beautiful ladies in the counter. Very kind and I think I just found my new mechanic. Great place indeed.

This message is way overdue after going to AJs a couple of months ago. If I could give them a NO STAR rating, I would! PLEASE READ!!!!First, Cynthia the greeter doesnt even greet anyone that comes through the door (I was a first time customer) but on top of that is EXTREMELY RUDE!! I went for an emissions test which Nikki (super nice!) assisted me and I was told my car failed, fine. A mechanic checked it out who was AJ and told me that my transmission needed a replacement, fine (my car is not new and is getting older) though I shouldve went for a 2nd opinion. I was also told my radiator was bad and needed a new one, fine.AJ quoted me at $3K to fix everything (including labor & one year warranty) and he told me it would take about a week to fix. I agreed since I was looking for a new mechanic and he was affiliated with DMV, I figured he would be legit. BOY WAS I WRONG!! First, it was over a week with no update on my car - when I called (which was multiple times), Cynthia answered and had no idea what was happening and always told me AJ was working in the back and couldnt come to the phone. Cynthia would say she would call me back and never did. TERRIBLE!!! They stood with my car for 2+ weeks and still not fixed!!! I couldnt even pick up my car and go to another spot since my transmission was already out (I went on a random day the 2nd week to check on it). SMH - Crazy that I had to do this!When I finally received the call to pick up my car, I went and asked AJ if he would show me what they did before paying and he said, why?, its fixed. Then he made an excuse that he had another job to go to but didnt look like he was in a rush to leave! Im a customer right in front of you and you cant take a couple of minutes to show me what Im paying for?! SKETCHY!! After I kept asking him to show me really quick, he did. Im glad I checked it out before paying because my headlights on the left were not working (which were ALL working before bringing it in). Then AJ said, that wasnt us, it was like that when you brought it in to us. Mind you, did you ever think it was a mistake since it was on the side where you were doing work on the transmission! CRAZY!! AJ had a mechanic look at it and fixed it.AJ then told me not to be scared and ride it for a while as its a new transmission and need to be broken in. I wasnt sure what he meant but figured I needed to ride it anyway to see. So I went to pay and AJ charged me another $1K on top of the $3K making it a total of $4K!!! TALK ABOUT BEING A RAT!!! I questioned AJ about this and he said thats what we agreed on! ...MY MISTAKE, not receiving an invoice from AJ before confirming to do work on my car. LESSON LEARNED!! AJ then stated that oh youre one of those & accusing me of not getting the price right after telling him I wrote everything down then said Im tired of working on your stupid car. Talk bout UNPROFESSIONAL now! I paid and left before I blew up on this guy, plus I know KARMA will get him down the line.....After riding my car a couple of days, I learned that AJ DESTROYED my transmission because all it does now is jerk which it has NEVER done. I took it to another mechanic who told me that 1) I was overcharged for the transmission work, 2) He damaged my transmission gasket, 3) Never put back my muffler correctly, 4) Damaged my engine oil pan, 5) Put transmission parts that were not for my car causing it to leak!! These are things I had to pay additional for to be fixed from AJs error! I would normally go back especially having warranty but THIS GUY CANNOT BE TRUSTED!!!I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND AJS AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR SHOP TO ANYONE! SAVE YOUR MONEY AND YOUR TIME AND GO ELSEWHERE!

Courteous, quick, and efficient. Bring the card put it down, place your keys and have the $20. There are chairs to wait but whats best is the deli in the same parking lot to eat or have something to drink if its busy. We called ahead and they had no wait but picked it for the deli in case we did.

The woman at the front desk needs to learn how to talk to others. I came in for vin verification and asked twice if someone could help me check my tires as my low pressure light was on. she ignored me both times. maybe the owner can provide her with some debrox. maybe she can’t hear and that is why she is yelling and missing info. or maybe she’s just a miserable person :) . I manage a business and would never have such a nasty person dealing with customers lol I will go somewhere else next time.

Stay away! Cynthia at the front desk is rude and dishonest. After getting my car towed to AJs, shes telling me the car is totaled before even taking a look herself, shes not a mechanic! After telling her I will have someone tow the car home, she continues to harass me about my insurance coverage. Rudely tells me to move 6ft away yet the business only takes CASH! What a joke! What a shame, the owner seems like a nice person but has a secretary sabotaging the business.

Just went for a state emissions test. They were very professional. Their shop was neat, clean and well organized.

Efficient and very fast emissions inspections; they make it painless.

My regular mechanic, Fitzgeralds in Beacon Falls, doesnt do emissions testing so they recommended AJs to me. The receptionist definitely takes a little getting used to, but the service and speed of that service were top notch. No slackers in that place. That being said, Im still sticking with Fitzgeralds as my primary.

This is my first time here. I think a first impression means a lot. When I walked in I got no acknowledge from the woman at the desk. She was on the phone so I figured its ok because I understand. Until two guys after me walk in and she greets and helps both of them. Not professional at all. Will not be returning.

Consistant friendly and prompt service every time I take my vehicles for Emissions Testing. Although there are facilities much closer to where I live, I dont mind the 10 mile trip. Been going here for many years for both my diesel and gasoline vehicles.

Just left AJs, initially went in for just a emissions test and decided last minute to get an oil change. Do not go here for an oil change! 88.00 total, I was not even there for an hour that I was charged for. Will never go back or refer my worst enemy. My last oil change was at my dealership and was less (they also changed a headlight)! Shelton car care would be my recommendation in the area for any car work. GAll in all Very expensive 👎🏼

I went toAJs Automotive located on851 River Rd Shelton, CT 06484 a few months back with my vehicle because the brake light had suddenly come on although the brakes felt fine and I had no problem stopping.But I reasoned that light has to mean something so I took it in to get it checked.Ultimately the light only meant I needed to top off the master cylinder with a couple of ounces of brake fluid due to normal evaporation over time.These people are INCOMPETENT THIEVING CROOKS! STAY FAR AWAY! They are also given preferential treatment by some of Sheltons police most likely being due to the fact they are a contractor who tows for the city of Shelton.I was charged over 700.00+ tax which I paid for in CASH for what amounted to 2 ounces of brake fluid and they cracked my plastic hubcap claiming it was brought in broken, a total lie! I was then denied a receipt because I was told by Cynthia,a worker at the counter who actually took my payment and Adriano Monaco( the owner and an arrogant incompetent thief) who snapped at me: YOU DONT GET A RECEIPT WHEN YOU PAY CASH! Cynthia then stepped back tightly grasping the wad of cash in her greedy sweaty palm.I used to frequent this place for emissions testing. Not anymore! I would not even go there for an oil change!It would be fair to note the I did eventually get an unsigned useless receipt (actually a bogus estimate) stating PAID IN FULLwith the aid of the Shelton Police.Luckily I noticed it was useless unsigned and asked the Sargent to please have it signed.He then brought in back in to AJs for the second time and got it initialed underneath the initially useless PAID IN FULL that was scribbled on there I believe in pencil.The police were called by Adriano initially claiming I threatened him but it backfired on him and I prevailed having broken no laws.This all occurred after I brought the vehicle back after calling AJs and being told come right down and we will show you the old replaced parts by Adriano (owner). I was charged for a brand new sway bar and various alleged repairs/diagnostics. When I picked up the vehicle after being forced to pay before even seeing the vehicle the brake warning light was still on. This is the reason I brought the van in. I told Adriano and he very annoyingly rolled his eyes looking totally disgusted stating Look its late and I wanna get outta here. The mechanic, Mike I believe, who actually worked on the vehicle who was supposed to be there as well conveniently was absent!The police told me it was a good idea to stay away from this place of business.I complied needing no more grief.I then notified the Dept. of Motor Vehicles and filed a complaint. I was told by the DMV analyst there were many complaints lodged against this business over the last thirty five years. He advised me to pursue civil action(small claims court) as was my right having done all he had the power to due at that time.In the JUNE 2013 SHELTON Life Community & Business News there is an article on AJs portraying them as honest salt of the earth small business owners who have grown exponentially over the years.That does not surprise me the slightest since they are robbing all their customers blind! They are so good they fix parts that are not even broken!When you read the reviews you will notice the one or two positive reviews are always signed anonymousI was told by an inside source AJs friends,co-conspirators and/or family members have written these wonderful reviews.This is no surprise.Its the oldest trick in the book.When You read the negative reviews bear in mind I have been treated the exact same way with callous disregard,arrogance and disrespect having been robbed blind by these vultures. 6-16-13

Great place to get your emission done

Awful buisness practices, towing only accepts cash, vehicle can be towed here on a Sunday morning, yet buisness is closed so you cant retrieve your car, therefore you are forced to pay for 2 nights of storage, reasoning was towing company and buisness itself are totally different atleast thats the reason i was given by the lady at the front desk, yet your paying Ajs and not dealing with tow company, shady way to rack up charges to take your money....1 star, F minus, thumbs down buisness...

I had transmission work done there. The car was never the same. Brought back numerous times to fix issues. The lady at front desk is very rude and unprofessional. I will never go back.

I bought a used SUV from AJs Service Center at 851 River Road in Shelton CT and it has been a total nightmare. I purchased the SUV in May and I specifically questioned the owner about the All Wheel Drive and I told him the vehicle was for my wife to drive my 3kids around. I am no mechanic, so I didnt realize until winter snow that someone had removed the front driveshaft and when I had the car checked out I discovered that this was done because the transfer case is bad. This is a $3,000 repair. This made the SUV very dangerous to drive. The other garage told me there was no way that AJs didnt know about this problem. AJ HAD TO KNOW, but money and greed are more than some people can handle. Also the car had extensive rust and the back shackles that held the car straight on the road were rusted and this was also very dangerous. What kind of dishonest dirtbag sells a dangerous car to someone that tells him it is for 3kids to get driven around in?Stay away from this place. If you do not believe me or the other person below about this place, do yourself a favor and ask around. Word of mouth will tell you all you need to know. Since my bad experience with AJs on River Road I have asked around and many, many people have been ripped off by them.Like the post below, I also called the hefty blonde secretary to complain and I received the same non-reply. I believe she is related or something looking back?
