MKG is an awesome place to be. They were super flexible and accommodating during Covid to make sure they were providing a consistent, safe, and stimulating environment to learn and grow. MKG was a huge reason why I made it through Covid with my sanity and helped me develop a better sense of self-worth.
Andy and his team at mkg is truly one of the best learning experiences for a comprehensive overview of the martial arts. Many schools get caught up in the dogma of training. What is unique about mkg approach is they let you flourish with techniques that you can use immediately. I found Andy to be very personable and very intuitive in his training methods and methodologies. it is probably one of the top places to train in Seattle area. Well worth the visit to take a look at their training facility
Ive been going to MKG for about 8 months now. I feel like Ive learned so much, and yet have still so much to learn. Its been an exceptional experience all the way through.I originally joined for the Kali classes, but then started getting really into the kickboxing and muay thai classes, too. There is a lot of depth to the curriculum, especially if you cross-train in each of the different styles being taught. The instructors Ive learned under here have all been phenomenal. Sifu Andrew Wilson, the owner and lead instructor of MKG, is a great teacher. Hes got a wealth of knowledge from decades of martial arts experience, and has run this local, family-owned business in Seattle for 20+ years. He is a patient and insightful teacher, and is always willing to provide honest and constructive feedback to help each student progress. Its inspiring to see such dedication from a martial artist and small business owner, and only further reinforces my appreciation for his school.Ryan Teal, another teacher there, is a brilliant instructor, and really knows how to motivate students to push themselves, both in skill and fitness. He is a very friendly and encouraging guy, but his classes present an impressive level of challenge which will test you both physically and mentally. He displays an amazing level of skill in communicating and demonstrating techniques, but puts your skills to the test with a level of complexity which will not hold your hand. He also participates in the challenging workouts alongside the class, which is extremely motivating and inspires me to fight through the exhaustion just like he does. Hes an absolute top-tier teacher, and I have mad respect for him. This school has remained standing strong through the many challenges COVID-19 put in front of martial arts schools, and it has been a place for me to turn to for knowledge, inspiration, courage, and friendship.I give MKG my highest recommendation, its a dope martial arts school.
It is the best thing I could ever do
MKG is a great place to study and train in multiple different martial arts. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and the overall atmosphere is an excellent blend of hard work and a lot of good fun. Its hands downs the best organization Ive been able to train with in my 30+ years of martial arts experience.
What cant you love about a gym that adapts to its environment. Amongst covid-19 the figured out ways to deliver a scroll of zoom workouts for its members. The staff is top notch; friendly, knowledgeable and professional. The facility has all the fun things you would want to get an exhausting and fulfilling workout.
My 2 young daughters (7 and 9) are currently training in the kids martial arts “Juniors” program. I highly recommend this martial arts school. The instructors have a talent for creating a healthy and fun environment for our kids to not only learn the proper martial arts skills and technique but also fine tune their discipline and respect that they carry with them beyond the studio. The physical benefits of this training are fantastic as well, with a perfect balance between strength and flexibility. My girls are consistently challenged and pushed to be their best selves and have gained so much confidence because of MKG. Their new location is super clean with plenty of parking. So if you are looking for a place for your kids to grow physically, mentally, and emotionally in an environment they will feel comfortable and confident in - look no further than MKG.
As someone who never did but was always interested in martial arts, MKG Seattle was the perfect environment for me to explore many different arts at once. A truly welcoming place, in my 5 years at MKG Seattle, I have worked with people of all backgrounds and skill levels. The instructors also come from diverse backgrounds and display a love for the martial arts they teach that is infectious.Whether youve done martial arts before or are brand new, I highly recommend MKG Seattle.
Awesome place to train! I was in Seattle for the first time in my life and googled best gyms in Seattle and MKG Seattle was at the top of the list. Ryan is an awesome trainer who is very knowledgable and promotes a clean, safe, hard working, and welcoming environment. I highly recommend joining their team!
This Review is for Little Ninjas Class. I would definitely recommend the Little Ninja Program for boys and girls 4-7. It has been great for my daughter and really helped her confidence. The teachers are great. Sifu Ryan is a true talent and has amazing abilities with the kids. They focus on attendance and attitude over abilities so every kid feels comfortable and has a blast. I have seen a huge boost in confidence, and have witnessed the changes it has made in ours and other children. Highly Recommend this class
The new teleconferencing classes from here are turning my soul-deadening quarantine into a reason to get fired up and get some. Kettlebell cleans are better with company!! Thanks Tammy and Scott!!
I am so grateful I found MKG. The MKG team is knowledgeable, experienced, and approachable. They listened to my goals and helped me find a way to reach them. I went from only trying Muay Thai to taking multiple martial arts and crossfit classes a week. Im in the gym as often as I can be now. I love being at MKG not just for the amazing workouts and fight training, but also for the sense of community. Ive met great people and made friends. I cant recommend this place enough.
I started training with Sifu... Guro... Ajarn... Sensei... Mr. Wilson... well, I just call him Andy... in the late 90s. In fact, he was my first training partner at MKG in Minneapolis. In other professional disciplines, his growth as a martial artist would be referred to as professional development, continuing education, graduate or post-graduate work, etc. His development has not been limited to just learning the physical techniques & attributes of his arts, but constant reading about the arts (and just his own), their history, innovators, etc. And hes concerned himself with not only developing as a martial arts instructor, but also a business owner, too. His students are his customers, his customers are his students. Its not enough that his students learn the martial arts, he wants them to have an enriching, healthy experience. Together with his wife Tammy, theyve built upon the foundation of the MKG system, crafted their own unique identity & offerings, to create what is arguably the premier martial arts destination in the Pacific Northwest. If youre one of those people who say, Ive always wanted to try..., this is the place for you. If you want a fun place to exercise & sweat in lively group setting, this is the place for you. If you want to hit things, work stress out in a healthy manner, this is the place for you. Shoot them an e-mail, give them a call, or just stop on by. This is the place for you.
MKG is an amazing place to train, I never felt better than when I was training there. The people are incredible, and I only felt self conscious for the first few days of class, after that I felt like I belonged. Everyone is easy to talk to, and the trainers are all great people. I recommend it for anyone either trying to get into shape, or learn martial arts. Its a great place to train.
This is a fantastic karate place for children. They have a young kids and juniors class our boys have been through both of them. They have also bonus behavior task with worksheets that help around the house. They have helped our kids become more disciplined at home and at school. All around well worth the monthly cost. The teachers are super friendly and take the time to listen to the kids.
Love this place. The workouts are great and always push you to the next level.
Great instructors and great people here! They teach so many different martial arts and at all levels. There is even group fitness classes, personal training and a crossfit gym.
One of the biggest and best facilities availableshowers, heavy bags, 4 bathrooms, crossfit facility, many matts, 2 full rings and morewords cant describe how great the facility is.likewise the training is some of the best around.huge breadth and depth of knowledge can be obtained herecheck it out!
I have been training at MKG for 5 years now, and continue to be impressed with the quality of martial arts instruction. The instructors are awesome, your training partners are enthusiastic, and the training facilities are top notch. Plus, its one of the few schools in the country that teaches savate. Seriously, if you want to train in martial arts, come check out MKG.
MKG is not a gym, it is a martial arts school. You can get a work out and hit or kick a heavy bag anywhere. But if you really want to LEARN martial arts and immerse yourself in multiple art forms, then you owe it to yourself to give MKG a try. I took my first Phase/Mixed Arts class at MKG about 8 years ago and have been enrolled at the school since. I consider the students and instructors at MKG some of my dearest friends, more like a part of my extended family. The sense of community is second to none. In addition to the adult and youth martial arts programs, the school also offers the MAX10 Fitness & Boot Camp and a state-of-the-art CrossFit program. There is also very reasonably priced child care available on-site.
Several years ago, the research core I worked for at the University of Washington no longer had sustainable grant funding to keep me as a part of their staff. As a result, I became unemployed. During this period of unemployment, I somehow found myself in a downward spiral of being miserable, no longer in shape, and lacking self-confidence. To get myself back into focus and keeping active, my partner suggested that we try out MKGs MAX10 Fitness 10-week Bootcamp. I was very hesitant at first, but when she said that she would do it with me, I said why not? After two complete series of back-to-back bootcamps (20 weeks total), I literally discovered a renewed passion for fitness, a better sense of self-confidence, a stronger and more flexible body, and the ability to once again set goals and work towards them. The coaches were always very supportive and they kept me going each and every day as we alternated from cardio kickboxing and strength focused classes. The coaches were awesome! I also found a lot of encouragement from fellow bootcampers as well. Some of whom that ended up becoming really good friends with us. I can truly state my decision to become a part of MKG was one of the best decisions Ive made and the experience was overwhelmingly positive. Id have to say, the community (gym members, owners, staff, coaches, and instructors) here at MKG is very friendly, engaging, and fun. Id highly recommend anyone to try out their 10-week bootcamp. If bootcamp is not your thing, MKG also offers Adult Martial Arts, Kids Martial Arts, MAX10 Fitness, and a little bit up north, they have their CrossFit facility. :)
I wish there should be the option of ‘0’ or Negative Ratings!!The owner, Tammy, was different when I was there for sign up, but when I requested them for Cancellation she was totally different. I originally signed up for Max 10 as 1 year contract, and then I switch to Muay Thai after 2-3 months.I was unable to go to the classes because I got 2 New Businesses. But I didn’t put the request for cancellation because I just want to finish my contract even if I am not going there!!I called them 2-3 months ago and confirmed with the management that when my contract will be fulfilled!!He told me that I can cancel any time from May!!Then when in May when I put request for cancellation he told me that I have to come into the office and even then I will be charged next month bill because they need the one month notice!!!Wowwwww!!If that was the case why I was not informed this 2-3 months ago when I called and confirmed everything!!They just want to make extra money as much as they can!! They don’t care about the relationship or anything else!!In my opinion they don’t know how to grow or how to do the business even!! I noticed that Just money is everything for them!!Their Muay Thai instructors are good but the classes are too crowded!!Their management need a lot of improvement in my opinion!!!I will never suggest anyone for this location and specially with this management!!!I will give -5 (Negative) rating to their management!!!
Ive been training at MKG Seattle for over ten years. The martial arts program is accessible to everyone but challenging. The instructors are top notch. Give it a try.
Make sure you dont sing no contracts with them because they wont let you cancel it . I call to cancel and they said they going to keep on charging my card until October. Even though I made clear that it didnt work out for me and I wasnt going to go no more. They are still going to charge me until October. Its a scam thats their way to make money. And there instalacions are old with only a few old machines .
Love this place! Awesome teachers and students. I recommend them to everyone, for crossfit to kick boxing to self defense, they have it all!
The martial arts program at MKG is stellar; its rich and diverse with very friendly people. With the variety of arts to choose from, youre sure to find what works best for you!
Im not one to post reviews, but I would be remiss if I didnt give the credit that this place deserves.Short review: This place is wonderful. If you are interested in martial arts or fitness at all, this is the school for you. They have something for everybody, whether you are interested in CrossFit or a boot camp, to multiple disciplines of martial arts from Kali to Muay Thai to BJJ. Try it out and Im sure something will peak your interest. The instructors are wonderful and will work with you to make sure you are learning and getting the most out of your experience.Long Review: I discovered MKG two years ago online while looking for a place to learn baton work. I wanted to be a police officer so I thought it would be a good skill for me to learn. I came in for a trial class and it was wonderful. They talked to me about the idea of cross training and that not one individual art has the answer for everything so its better to broaden your skill set and learn more. Absorb what you can use, discard the rest. Just a few classes in, I couldnt wait until the next week so I could come back for more. A great part of training there is that I dont just get a physical workout, but a mental one as well, and I think that that has helped me in other facets of life. BUT the best thing about MKG is the people. Its not just a gym or a school. If you open yourself up and talk to the other people there, it can feel as though you are part of a family. People are genuine and kind and I wouldnt trade my experiences there for the world.
Host awesome seminars. Nice training facility
I love training at MKG. Everyone is super supportive and they offer many different classes. If you are interested in Crossfit I highly recommend MKG. They have an Onramp class that is amazing. Their bootcamp trainers are great and will keep you motivated. I will never go back to a regular gym!
Patient instructors, clean facility, well staffed, not too crowded, good parking
This is a review (rating) of the staff responses to neg reviews, not of the place, yes im rating the review responses lol amazing
I had been bored for a long time so one day I decided to try a free class. I started going to MKG 2 days a week, and had one focus. I quickly found myself wanting to learn more. I started CrossFit with the on-ramp program, and branched out from boxing to Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Filipino Martial arts, JKD, French kickboxing, and more. Outside experts regularly come in to put on seminars. Best of all, I discovered a new passion for fitness, martial arts, and trying to be healthy.
More fitness/self defense than sport martial arts
