Foundation is such a wonderful place. The trainers do an incredible job with teaching, programming, and scaling workouts to your fitness level.Tony and Andrew have built a welcoming and fun culture. It feels like Cheers, but with barbells.
I’ve been coming to Foundation for about a year and a half and it was one of the best choices I’ve ever made, for both my physical and mental health. They have well trained and experienced coaches, fun programming, and a wonderful, welcoming community. Whether you are a competitive CrossFit athlete, more into Olympic weightlifting, looking to lose weight, or just interested in being active for an hour each day, you’ll fit in and find the coaching you need to pursue it.
Awesome gym with super awesome staff. After only a couple of months, some of the staff feel like family members. They are super fit and resourceful. When I suffered a bout of bursitis in my shoulder, the coaches were super helpful and adjusted the daily workouts to accommodate my injury.
I have been going to this gym for three years now. I was drawn to the gym because of the massive space and stayed for the incredible community. I have been doing CrossFit for six years and I have pr-ed numerous times at this gym and made amazing friends. The community is supportive, funny, and all around the best I’ve ever been apart of.
Foundation has an incredible and rare combination of knowledgeable coaching (in CrossFit, gymnastics, weightlifting, and mobility for all ages and skill levels), supportive community, and thoughtful programming. The owners and coaches place an emphasis on just showing up and working hard - not baseline skill or strength - as a metric of success, which is far more achievable than targeting and hitting numbers alone. Foundation is the first gym I’ve gone to where I’ve continually seen progress and have learned more, even when I’m not chasing progress in any given skill or movement.
I’ve been to many a CrossFit gym and this one takes the cake! Aside from getting a killer workout, the coaches are knowledgeable, care about your form and are invested in your improvement. They truly strive to build and engage a community here at this box!
I have been working out at Foundation for many years. They are fantastic - and not just for Crossfit: they have different classes that fit what people want to work on, from high intensity interval training to Olympic weightlifting. Andrew and Tony did an amazing job at building a fitness community in which everyone belongs. I love that you dont need to be a fire breather at all to belong. Highly recommended.
Ive been going to Foundation for over a year, which is longer than Ive been a member at any other gym! The coaches are friendly and encouraging, and since Im relatively new to weightlifting, I appreciate their focus on safety, form, and technique. Theyre also great at scaling workouts to any ability level. If you want a taste of the class offerings, check out the gyms blog, which has the weeks workouts posted every Sunday. And if youre on the fence, sign up for the next offering of Foundations, the intro to CrossFit class series offered every 2-3 months!
Awesome place! A huge selection of gymnastics and weightlifting equipment in addition to the regular Crossfit staples. The staff is so nice and helpful. I dropped in for a couple of days on a trip and was made to feel like a regular member. All around great place to do fitness.
Best CrossFit gym in Seattle! You’ll always be greeted with a friendly hello. Then, you’ll get your sweat on with a various assortment of movements. FCF has a strong focus on form with a nice blend of heavy and light barbell, gymnastics, and cardio. I also recommend the HIIT classes if you just want to move! The community is so welcoming no matter which class or time you go. Highly recommended!
Great gym with very knowledgeable trainers who care and take the time to make sure you are getting it right. Cool, laid back atmosphere and programs running the spectrum from improving general health and fitness to competition. Highly recommended!
Been going since 2010 and we love these guys!! The experienced owners and instructors are the reason my husband and I have stayed so long. Love the community this gym has.
Best gym Ive ever been to. Excellent instructors, workouts, great gym space, equipment and great community. Cant recommend this place enough.
Great trainers and a perfect facility. The place is clean, and rates are reasonable. The machines are modern!
Been going to FCF (or their now-closed sister gym) for 8 years now. These guys taught me how to weightlift - its hard to find a place/people to reach you to lift especially as a woman without shelling out for a personal trainer! Highly recommend as a place to push yourself with excellent coaching and a supportive atmosphere.
Dropped in 4 times while in Seattle, September 2016. The facilities were nice, the trainers and other members welcoming. However, they will not let you use any equipment or do anything other than mobility outside of the class. I asked if I could just do some rowing or biking in a corner by myself and they just plain said no. Meanwhile, 10 rowers and some 4-5 bikes just sat there unused because the class workout that day didnt include either. I also recall one of the trainers demoing push jerks incorrectly, while two other trainers just stood there nodding their heads! Overall not a bad CF gym if youre just looking to drop in, but for long term membership I advise a 1-month trial to make sure youre fine with their policies and coaching.
Awesome community. Knowledgeable couches. Nice facilities. Many classes times. Good variety of classes.
I started at Foundation CrossFit in July 2015 when I realized I was sick and tired of plugging in my headphones and zoning out for an hour at the gym. Foundation CrossFit makes staying fit and active easy. They have a ton of classes to fit your workout style and timing needs. The coaches are incredibly knowledgable and friendly, able to help you with the basics or fine tune your advanced lifts. The online reservation system is easy to use and guarantees you a spot in your favorite class. All that aside, the one thing that keeps me going back is the community. The people at Foundation CrossFit are welcoming, friendly, diverse, and funky. We are constantly encouraging and taking care of each other inside and out of the gym. I cannot say enough about this wonderful gym. If you’re looking for something new in your workout routine, or you’re an experienced CrossFitter, you’ll find just what you’re looking for at Foundation CrossFit.
At first a sceptic of CrossFit, now full converted! 😊 Love the peeps there and workout routines. Highly recommend this place.
If youve been doing CrossFit for a while and are serious about improving, Id avoid this gym.Pros: Nice membersCons:1) Programming is terrible. Im paying a lot of money and I expect an hours long worth of work for a class. There were routinely classes where the only thing programmed for an hour-long class was a 12 min WOD or 15 AMRAP.2) Little focus on fundamental barbell skill work3) No open gym4) It seems like the gym is more interested in making money than fostering a community.a) As someone new to the area, this gym makes you pay to try out classes. All other gyms Ive joined after moving have allowed me try out a few classes for free to ensure theres a match.b) This gym made me go through a weeklong on-ramp (I have 5+ years of CrossFit experience), which could have taken 15 minutes to complete. This also costs money.c) Instead of including barbell skill development/strength work in actual CrossFit classes, they make members pay extra money for guided gym sessions in which you are handed a custom program, but work on your lifts with little to no supervision from coaches. So effectively, youre paying additional money for existing equipment you have access to to do programming that should be included in normal CrossFit classes, and are doing it mostly unsupervised.5) No Wodify or app to record results and track progress. Instead they give members notebooks. Considering the amount of money members are paying, youd expect this to be available to make things easier for members.
I have been coming to this gym over over an year and it is the best Crossfit gym I have been to. The facilities are great and most importantly the coaches are great. Andrew, one of the owners, is a phenomenal coach. He loves what he does and this comes through in his coaching. He is supportive yet challenges his student to take their performance to the next level. And behind this is a deep foundation of knowledge on the science of lifting. And of course there is Tony, Sheena, Jessie, and Dave, just to name a few who make Foundation Crossfit the place you want to be when it comes to taking your physical fitness to the next level. FYI, this review is from someone who did not believe in Crossfit in the first place, however, the staff and quality of workouts at this gym have completely changed my mind. I highly recommend this gym:)
Just wanted to give an update on this review. First I want to say that I would be hard pressed to find another box that has such a fine focus on coaching and technique. For my work I travel quite a bit and can safely say that I have visited over 40+ Crossfit Boxes in the last 5 years in my travels. FOUNDATION CROSSFIT IS THE BEST ONE...PERIOD.This box excels in coaching. My wife and I never participated before in Olympic Lifting or much barbel work before we entered the Crossfit world. Out of the many gyms that we visited, we can both honestly say that due to this coaching we have had the most confidence ever in the different movements required by Crossfit. The results speak for themselves. I have increased my weight from 170 to 190 pounds with no increase in body fat. I am the strongest that I have ever been in my life right now. My wife is in the same boat. She has increase her muscle mass by 16.7% during our time at Foundation as well. The coaches are absolutely amazing at Foundation and each of them have their own flavor and twist to the workouts. The great thing about this is that it never gets boring. Also the owners are just great people. From podcasts to doing whats right for their patrons as well as the community. I am proud to support a business that stands for such iconic ideals. Youd be hard pressed to find a better mix.Special shot out to the coaches who have played a huge part in our fitness success: Andrew, Tony, Dave, Sheena, Boots, Nate, Kelsi, and Sarah!
Awesome trainers. Great community. Nice space. Everyone is friendly.
Self motivation is difficult. Many people find is hard to dig deep and convince yourself you can do this, you can get out of the bed, you can walk to the gym, you can lift that weight! Over the years, I have convinced myself countless of times to skip class but this gym has given me the power to do it all. I walked into the gym at 95lbs performed at scaled and 2 years later im 105lbs performing at rx at the open for the first time. The staff and other athletes (and my husband) have been my biggest support and my biggest inspiration. Im proud of how far I have come and i never thought this would be attainable with out this amazing support group. The couches are so knowledgeable and they will find any way possible to help to fight through those doubts and get that PR! Today i hit my PR goal 19 times and its all thanks to some great training, some persistence and ability to take direction and the constant support and cheering. Who knows what tomorrow will bring! Thank you @_tonylau_ @foundationcrossfit #hyfrsquat #pr #crossfitopen2019
Best Xfit gym in Seattle, Andrew and Sheena are so nice and welcoming and relaxed vibe.
Foundation CrossFit is a great gym where everyone knows your name.
Very welcoming! Great personality guys! Very glad I visited while in town!
Amazing gym and staff! I’ve been doing CrossFit for over three years and have been a member of a few boxes in 3 states, this gym exceeds all expectations. Foundation is by far the best gym in the area—no comparison!Great and thoughtful workouts, holistic approach to fitness, many different types of classes (crossfit, high intensity interval classes, olympic weightlifting, powerlifting, kettlebell, mobility, and a competitive exercise class for more advanced athletes). Great coaching, great community, LGBTQ+ friendly, no judgements, all different levels welcomed!Highly recommend!
There are a lot of Crossfit gyms out there. The best ones have a solid identity based on a coaching/programming philosophy. Foundation Crossfit is not a bro gym. It’s not a place where you’re going to hear lots of screaming and grunting. It’s a friendly neighborhood gym that prides itself on being welcoming to all. It’s programming focuses on building the capacity for consistently safe and sound lifting form/technique, while emphasizing the “constantly varied” aspect of Crossfit programming. The coaches are also remarkably consistent in their instruction and correction. You won’t be told three different ways to squat or snatch by three different coaches. And the coaches are all supportive and friendly. While Foundation a great gym for athletes of all levels, all of the above makes FCF an especially great gym if you are new to fitness or Crossfit.
Back in May I transferred to Foundation Crossfit thinking I was just going to another crossfit gym. Little did I know that this gym and its coaches will open up an entirely different workout experience for me. Crossfit classes are amazing, there are many pros, and I have had many learning experiences from it, but for me I was always looking for something more designed for my body and the way it moves. I honestly was planning on doing a class or two a week until the summer then start training again for triathlons, however after completing the gyms transfer week I was determined to try all of their different classes offered, to include different crossfit times. For crossfit they offer morning, midday, afternoon, evening and weekend classes. I knew right away this gym was different in all the good ways.I started out trying Kettlebell classes. The coach starts each class with ground force movements, the first time was awkward, but it was exciting to see my progression as weeks and months went by. I absolutely love it so much that I do ground force movements everywhere I go. The class is offered 3 times a week, and the coach rotates Monday and Wednesday workouts so regulars can get in different movements. On Friday the coach includes increased volume which makes things spicy. Snatches, Turkish get-ups, cleans, presses, carries, and swings are some of the main movements. The second class I tried was Hellafit, its a body weight class that makes you move for an hour. I like to call it hellasweaty. I find it works multiple parts of the body out in concentrated groups of workouts that are about 10-15 minutes, making me feel like I get a total body workout in. The class does use kettlebells, slam balls, wall balls, bands, and rowers depending on the workouts. With Hellafit I always leave feeling like I got an awesome workout in.The third class I tried was Gymnastics strength. I remember leaving the first class thinking okay that was totally cool. The coach gives out homework, and its perfect to do before or after a class. Each movement takes a ton of concentration since it feels so new to me, but the coach makes it fun. This is still a new class for me, but we are working on building core strength for handstands.Next class I am trying is Barbells, I am so excited for it. Being able to concentrate on each move with the barbell is something I have always wanted to do.What I like about the gym the most is that the owners, coaches and members make it fun, make it feel like a community, and make everyone feel like they are part of that community. Its a diverse gym, and they welcome everyone from all walks of life.
This is my favorite place in the whole world. The trainers are knowledgeable and put the safety of the athletes before anything. The location has a shower, three bathrooms, changing area, and an athlete hang out area to store belongings and relax before or after a class. They offer snacks, drinks, and apparel for sale. The gym is a welcoming, inclusive community to all (age, genders, backgrounds). They offer various classes - crossfit, competitive level crossfit, barbell, kettlebell, high intensity cardio, mobility and community classes. If youre looking for a place that will prioritize good form, safety and learning the movements, go to foundation. The trainers are attentive & athletes are welcoming.
Great Gym!
