Good location, indoor garage parking, good cool air conditioning (strong enough), good music to keep the pace, machines and weights kept clean, plenty of space between benches and cleaning wipes (especially coming from chain fitness centers). Recent new management (as of first week of September) has been a breath of fresh air. Staff truly welcoming of members, new and returning. Appreciated Marvin’s tips and welcoming attitude. Would recommend to anyone looking for a solid, comfortable, reliable gym to attend on a regular.
I have been going to ECA for over three years now and I love it! I’m in the champions program and yes, it is a bit more expensive than the basic gym access program. To be honest I’m a little surprised that people would expect anything else (feels like you have to be pretty out of touch to think that a gym should be under 40$ and have a CrossFit-like class). Anyway, I love it!
This is a fantastic gym with a very helpful staff committed to helping members achieve their fitness goals. I have been a member since November 2018, and I’m always impressed with how friendly and engaged the staff is. I did Champions training for a while too with great results. The feedback from trainers catered to my overall goals, and dove into nutrition in addition to exercise plans. As far as equipment, it’s always well-maintained and the gym has everything you need and nothing you don’t. If you want to splash in a pool or play basketball, look elsewhere. This is all about body transformation. Oh, the price of the gym membership is unbeatable too.
Dont join this gym. Theyll get you into the door with a low price, but if you want to actually use the gym you have to at least get the 2nd tier. Shortly after joining the gym, they just about doubled the size of the highest member level only area, which sits unused most the day. After cancelling we are still being charged, when we asked for them to explain how that is possible we got a pretty obviously scripted workaround and no real answer to any of our questions. When we pressed we were met with a threat of being sent to collections.Oh, and any of these recent five star reviews were bought by them for a Starbucks gift card.
Do not go to this place!I payed a year in advance and I stopped going in within a couple months. A lot of creepy guys. And my trainer would tell me how management would tell at everyone. He ultimately moved to LA fitness like everyone else. I see a fresh a new face working there like every week. The gym is small for $55 a month. You have to $100 a month to use thier kettle bells, punching bags, medicine balls, etc all couped up in a separate room for their champions members. They only offer 1 class for the member ship unlike any other gym that comes with your standard $30 membership.Me and my boyfriend moved 2 months ago and they are still charging him for his membership because he has to physically come in with a written statement he wants to cancel his membership. And we both were there in person saying we want to cancel our member ship and he told him he has to come the next day before 5pm. I come in the next day to cancel both our memberships and it was the same guy that handled it. Like really? You couldn’t have handled it before? And they never return our phone calls.Don’t go here. Very greedy. Very small. Bad vibes.Oh yah and THEY PAY FOR THEIR RATINGS. Offer Starbucks gift cards to anyone who gives them a positive review.
This is by far, my favorite gym I have been a member of. I have been going to gyms for decades, and have been a member here for at least 5 years. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. The facility is well maintained and clean. The classes are awesome.
I have been a member of ECA for 6 + years. I have had a personal trainer throughout most of that time. The gym has gone through a lot of changes during that time. My experience has always been positive and I have never had an issue with communication or money. I am fortunate I am able to go mid mornings. My current trainer Adan, is amazing. He keeps me focused, knows the musculature of the body, when to push me and always checks to see if Im doing okay. Hes aware of my goals and how to achieve them.As far as gyms go, I like the small intimate atmosphere. Its typically very clean and Im not afraid to say something to the staff if something needs to be taken care. As far as selling product and training, thats their job. LA Fitness and 24 Hour Fitness are no different except they are much more aggressive. Im never talked into anything I dont want to do. I always leave feeling well taken care of after my training and typically much better. I am almost always greeted with a smile when I walk in. My best advice is know what you want when joining a gym.
I started going to this gym a few months ago and I absolutely love it! I do the Champions program and though it is more money than I would typically pay for a gym membership, I get a lot out of it and it has been well worth the price. The trainers are all kind, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable, especially Alexis! Plus the Champions program has lots of seminars are even outside social events to go to.Definitely would recommend to anyone who is looking for more guidance and community in their workout routine!
Been a member for two years and there really isnt much to complain about especially if youre just coming in and out for a workout. They have everything you need in terms of equipment (loved that they added two new power racks a few months ago), its clean (they provide disinfecting wipes/spray throughout the gym), and parking is easy and free. I havent done any personal training or taken any of their classes so I cant speak on those.
Read your contract. Know what you are agreeing to and be a grown up that can say no to anything you are not agreeing to; you should be happy with this well maintained clean professional gym.
Being a business owner during a pandemic must be hard. Youre bound to get it from both sides, and this most recent masking mandate wasnt a straightforward call for ECA. At first, they thought they would be considered a non-public location and so allowed people to go without masks, which angered people. Then they applied the mask mandate, which angered people. Throughout, Dave took it on the chin and kept doing his best to serve all his patrons. Kudos for going with the mask mandate to keep people safe, Dave.
I absolutely love ECA! Best gym Ive found in Seattle. I am very much a class person, Ive tried all sorts of classes around Seattle and found that the Champions classes at ECA are my favorite. All of the coaches are extremely professional, helpful and welcoming.
Ive been a member since January 2019, and I love this gym. They were responsible throughout the pandemic, and their programs are effective and efficient. I would 100% recommend this to anyone looking to get fit!
They do not sufficiently enforce their/Seattles masking mandate. Many people dont have heir masks on at all. I consistently have people near me with their masks under their noses or around their chins doing their bicep curls. I like a lot of their staff but there is clearly a culture from above that leads to toxic outcomes that do not change even with the numerous very negative public reviews here. If health and safety is #1 then this shouldnt happen to this extent. I have told them this multiple times but they do not seem to care. This is in addition to their predatory membership policies and closing half of the gym to their members as a money grab to sign up for their champions membership.
The gym is clean and does not feel crowded most of the times. The garage parking is very convenient and always plenty! This facility is a big upgrade from LA Fitness. I have been a member now for 2 months.
Good equipment, but slimy management practices. You have to give your bank account information to them (no credit card), you’ll be constantly upsold various services, and cancelling your membership is such a hassle that I’m debating contacting my bank to block money transfers to Emerald City. If you do join, be careful!
Watch out for the sneaky once per year $70 “maintenance fee.”Also they give folks $10 Starbucks gift cards for 5 star reviews (admittedly I have them a 5 start review for this originally lol). Don’t trust the rating
Front desk Staff is very friendly and great Maintenance. BUT.. However it is completely overpriced. The workers are very pushy about the champions membership. I canceled my membership over a month ago and i am still being charged. When i canceled it the worker was completely rude about it. Even threw the paper at me. As a member we were offered a gift card in exchange for a 5 star rating on here so most of the 5 star reviews come from there.
Just a slimy place. They advertise $39 a month memberships but then charge a significant sign up fee, THEN, three months later, they charge you a $65 ‘enhancement fee’ for maintenance cleaning (that’s not covered in the monthly costs and sign up charge?!) that was not at all clearly disclosed upon signing up.. Additionally, only a portion of the gym is accessible to non ‘Champion’ members, just a total stinker. Machines aren’t great and weights are limited. To boot, they are as of 8/23/21 refusing to comply with the mask mandate, gross.
The first gym I’ve ever had a membership in! The staff and trainers I’ve met have been super friendly and super helpful. I’m always so worried I get my form wrong on the machines so I love that they give you trainers in the beginning to help put together a workout program and show you how to use everything. So far so good:)
Good gym for the price. Recently updated with new power racks and an expanded free weight/machines area. Only thing I don’t love is I constantly hear trainers pushing weight loss for new clients. Lots of challenges based around weight loss in the “Champions Club”. Would love to see more emphasis on quality of training and health benefits rather than aesthetic results. I have seen people come in to the gym who are of average size being told they should lose weight. If you don’t plan to use a trainer, I would highly recommend the gym!! If you do use a trainer, just an FYI.
I just recently joined Emerald City Athletics. I have had a great experience thus far with the staff, gym members and workout classes offered. ECA does a great job at making the atmosphere fun and welcoming for people of all ages. Highly recommend signing up for a membership.
WARNING:There is a 72 hour cancellation policy (Its written in fine print but they may not mention it verbally). Beyond 72 hours (82 hours in my case), they will not refund you for annual dues, initiation dues, or first month dues. In addition, they may still charge you for a second month. For me, this amount totaled $469.67.MY EXPERIENCE (TLDR -- I got my money back after filing a fraud claim and disputing the charge with a 3rd party):- I tried to cancel at noon on the fourth day after signing up, realizing the gym was not for me. I was referred to their account specialist who cited the 72 hour rule and refused my request. When I asked to speak with the manager, she refused to transfer me. When I asked for her name, she refused to give it.- After calling back to eventually speak with the manager, I made my case and he granted the refund and membership cancellation.- I saw the pending refund transaction and moved on with my life.- One month later I see a monthly charge for a second month of membership. In disbelief, I checked the refund transaction, and it had been withdrawn! So I was apparently still on the hook for all charges.- I called my bank to dispute the charges and block any future transactions from ECA.- After my bank contacted them with the fraud claim and transaction dispute, I got a call from the same account specialist saying she had issued my refund for all fees in the form of a check that I could claim in person or could have mailed to me. I requested the checks be mailed to me to avoid wasting more time on this issue.- They have a decent gym thats convenient for those in the neighborhood, but watch out for predatory behavior. Dont sign up unless youre 100% sure you want to be at this gym.
Great atmosphere and great place to work out. They pretty much have all the equipment you’ll ever need!
Great facility with a very friendly staff! With many locations on the way & a wide array of activities offered outside of just using the machines/weights, the value that you get from a membership here is superb
ECA is a quality gym. Extremely nice staff, friendly community, pretty good pricing, and has practically everything you need for any style of lifting. I recommend it to anyone and have thoroughly enjoyed my time here !
I joined this gym a few months ago. The staff is very welcoming and was helpful during the sign up process. The gym has all the equipment I need and even during the busiest times of the day it does not feel crowded. You can’t beat the price for this quality.
ECA advertises a 30 day free trial & a $39/month membership, but there’s a lot more to it when you dive into the details. There is a $100 enrollment fee (they offered to waive this), a $60 processing fee, and then two months later you pay another fee for gym maintenance. There are tiered membership options and you must sign a 12 month agreement. Note here - I asked if you can upgrade/change your membership during your term and was told that you can move up a tier, but never down. When I visited the gym, Dave aggressively tried to sell me on the “Champions” membership that ECA offers without first asking me about my fitness goals/preferences. This membership is $119/month and gives members access to workout classes which from a video seemed like a mix of HIIT & CrossFit. I never expressed any interest in these classes.I explained I would prefer a lower membership tier and asked about a trial membership to get to know the gym and see if I liked it. At this point, Dave’s tone completely changed and he no longer seemed interested in helping me. He gave me a 7-day trial pass and sent me on my way. The facility seems nice, but at no point was I given a tour of the gym or asked specifically about my wants/needs for a gym.I did not go back to utilize the 7-day trial and have no intention of signing up for a 12-month membership due to this off-putting sales experience.
They’re not good community members. They pay for good reviews, have slimy membership practices, and they are being big insecure overcompensators about the KC mask mandates.
The equipment at this gym is okay. Its spaced well enough apart to be easy to access and generally in good repair.unfortunately the business makes it difficult for the staff to treat customers well. After having been away from many months, I called to find out if I could use some equipment. They said that I could come in and use it. When I arrived the story changed to be that I needed to make an appointment. The equipment wasnt in use and the only issue was finding a staff person to help me. weirdly the staff person is the person who told me I needed the appointment. Rather than just helping me they asked me to come back another day. I would have been much more likely to come back if the staff had been able to help me right then.I dont really think this is the fault of the staff, instead it seems that the company has set up policies that incentivize this kind of behavior. I regret joining this gym.
The workers are nice people! The equipment is well maintained and the 1 on 1 sessions are very informative
Will not be sensitive in financial conversations. There is a $100 initiation fee and $69 processing fee, expected first and last months payment too at least. Staff will make assumptions about your financial state even when you advocate for yourself otherwise. You have to be the one to inquire about expenses. They will be intentionally vague and misleading when trying to gain your membership regarding finances in their sales pitches. They will reach out a lot-annoyingly. Unsolicited weight loss advice was given during first appointment without asking about what is important to you first.
They pay their members to leave good reviews. That should speak for itself.
Awesome club! Always greeted with smiles and positive energy. And the massage tables are fantastic 😌
Emerald city athletics has been a great place to work out, they have all the equipment you would ever need and plenty of space as well. The staff is very friendly and always very helpful.
Love gym! The champions is the most affordable spot in the city for any type of group training and HIIT workout.
Such a worst experience I had with their services. When you join the club who takes your membership after some days you are not able find that sales person who enrolled you for membership. At start as they say if you want to cancel the membership you can but forgot about that too specially in this club because when you want to do that they may ask you the move out paper which they want as proof. But when you plan to move some where else you dont have permanent place where you are going to stay. I talked many times with different representatives in the club even they took the bunch of notes with my name after lot of discussion they said just bring the paper we will cancel the membership before the billing cycle. I agreed and busy on my things even after 1 week I didnt get my address change letter from usps. But in bank statement I got address change paper so I submit that letter but they decided to confuse me more, and said you are close for next billing date now they cant cancel it now they forgot what I already spoke with them there is no use of that talk because I told you in start you can not find same person next time. So simply again he charged for this month which Im not using any services.its not $30 or $60 its $140 bucksHumble request to everyone before you chose them think twiceThank you
Amazing gym with fantastic customer service.Highly recommend this gym to everyone.
They will show you everything, how, when, where, why, and if you get the champions deal then get ready to be at the top of your game because they will work hand and hand with you until you get to that point. Instead of Emerald City Athletics it should be Flawless Emerald City Athletics because thats what you want to strive for is perfection.
Great Community vibe, awesome facilities. Id give it an A+
Friendly, professional staff. Great equipment. Everything a need to achieve my fitness goals
The equipment of this gym is fine. However, it is super crowded. At peak workout times, it is so hard to find a machine that is not already in use even during covid. The gym is also still actively promoting for new members to join. It is overall not a good workout experience.I joined way before covid, and the promise back then was that we could use the champion room whenever there isnt a class happening. Now, you cant enter the champion room anymore, unless you upgrade your membership.Like other reviews say, the staffs make you feel bad about your body and peer pressure you to get private training with them.
Several months ago, I was looking to attend here until SBP Fremont was open, one month later, I stated that explicitly when I first arrived. Took a class (which I hate classes but gave it a whirl) and was annoyed at the teacher singling me out to talk in front of the class.. Like, dude, Im panting and sweating, SHUSH and teach, geez. Then I decided to bite the bullet. The price to start was $250. Like NO, your monthly that I was going for was $39 per month. AND I stated clearly I would only utilize the facility for 1 month. The lady knocked it down to $200 but I walked out. Also, they are kinda culty, wanting people to get together, hang out for beers, join the SPÉCIAL monthly plan that was super expensive just to interact with other gym goers. Nah dude, do NOT bother. Try Ballard Health Club or Seattle GYM over these jokers. Not worth it
I love this gym! All the employees are very nice and they have great equipment.
ECA is clean and organized, staff is very friendly and I feel comfortable and not intimidated working out here.
Owner clearly doesn’t know how to run a business. Obnoxious staff interactions and predatory contracts. No wonder they have to pay people to leave positive reviews!
I like the atmosphere of ECA - Wallingford. Clean, the machines are in great working condition and the staff is very friendly. Im glad I made the choice to join ECA - Wallingford.
UPDATE: I filed a Better Business Bureau complaint, and Emerald City Athletics confirmed with the BBB that my contact info had been removed from all their databases. Surprise, surprise, a week later theyre calling me AGAIN. Time to lodge complaint #2!Do NOT fill out anything with your phone number, address, or email, even if youre interested in joining this gym. I have received multiple texts, calls, and even staff coming to my house (!!) to drop flyers off, even after I requested to be removed from their contact lists twice. This gym is VERY desperate for people to sign up, so I 100% believe all the bad reviews saying they make it difficult to cancel your membership.I sincerely regret ever giving them my name and number. Im looking to join a gym with reasonable marketing tactics, not an incessant barrage of unwanted communication.
Small facility but has everything you need. Free garage parking a major plus.
Facilities are ok but sales people are pushy and use slimey tactics to make you feel bad about your body. Some of us just want to maintain/stay healthy and not lose weight to look a certain way. I reiturated what my goals were but they made me point to a picture of what I want my body to look like. They will also blow up your phone even if you just plan on going to the gym on your own. I go to Anytime Fitness now and they are way better.
ECA has been one of my favorite gym experiences, primarily for Champions Club. Champions Club is a mix between CrossFit and HIIT. If youre looking for a challenging workout, learning some Olympic lifts and making friends, this is the place for you. ECA may be small and may not have as many amenities as other gyms, but the staff is friendly and works to make the gym experience a good one. There is some staff turn over (Ive been here for 3 years), but I think you find that at any gym. Its the only reason I gave 4 stars as it can be hard to adjust when youre favorite coach leaves and you have to get used to a new one. I currently drive from the eastside to come to ECA. I tried to find a gym that beat it on the eastside, but ECA pulled me back.
Ignoring mask mandate while people huff and puff during exercise is unconscionable. Will never go back.
Comfortable, clean, good equipment, friendly, knowledgeable staff. Great neighborhood gym.
Worst experience ever! They wont let you cancel your membership even after 1 year!
Great workout program that is challenging but feels inclusive. Great facility!
Do not go to this gym!!! I wish I had read the reviews before ever messaging for a consultation. The actual gym is fine but if you go in for a consultation the staff is super not understanding of financial situations and will try to pressure you into the most expensive contract. So if you do decide to go do your best to take your time reading everything in the contract before you hand over your card, even though they will try to rush you through it. But I would recommend just not going.
Emerald City Athletics Stone Way is by far the best Gym I’ve ever worked out at period !I worked out at Gyms all across the nation and never have experienced such excellent customer service, positive attitudes, and helpfulness to those of us that work out there as members.I would recommend this gym to anyone interested in exercise whatever level they may be on whether it’s beginning intermediate or advanced athletes this place caters to all levels and enjoys working with all People of all levels of fitnessI have personally been in the champs training classes for six months and also doing personal training with my trainer Ivy one to twice a week and have went from 24% body fat to 18% body fat, and have gained lean muscle mass as well as learnI got how to eat properly .and due to all of that I feel wonderful physically mentally spiritually. All of the front desk people I have ever encountered have been so friendly and helpful which I rarely experience at other gyms they act like they actually want to be there and that they actually want to help the membersThe manager Kriste is an amazing manager ! she is so positive and pumps everybody up with good cheers and encouragement and her knowledge of fitness is impeccableLiam and Josh the general managers I think that’s what they are both of those guys of been nothing but kind and courteous and also just great attitude and encouragingThe champs coach right now is John and he is one of the better trainers I’ve ever worked with his classes are amazing and all the people that attend have positive attitude and we all share each other on all the time and I think that’s a direct influence of himAlso all the other personal trainers there that I have met have also seemed exactly of that type I’m not sure if they just hire really good customer service oriented trainers or what but I know everything usually comes from the top down and I believe that everybody there is on the same page of just wanting to help peopleOne last thing I have recently just met the owner of ECA he was at one of our champs classes and he talk to all of us as almost like we are equals and answered really good questions and also had such a positive attitude and he’s in really great shape to you so it’s nice to see that all the employees actually take good care of themselves that’s great influences for all of usThe social media department ran by Barbie is also really awesome and she does a great job On all the media for all the pagesThank you Emerald City Athletics for improving my health and my mental well-being and providing a great place to work out and learn new exercises!!!!!!
Gym closing down due to virus is understandable. What I dont understand how they have the audacity, the coldness to still charge my bank account. I just joined on late November of last year. Since then I payed $162.00 for start up fees, $50.00 monthly and a maintenance annual fee of $64.96. The agreement was that I could cancel the membership anytime. I contacted them via email requesting a refund for the recent charges. They literally charged my bank account the same day the governor announced the extension of the quarantine. Who knows how long this will take!. So why are they still charging?.I just got laid off yesterday, I aint a millionaire, my family depends on me immensely. Everyone is being impacted. All I wanted was a refund from the time the gym closed down and the recent charge but now I not going to let this tyranny fly. I contacted my attorney this morning so if there is anyone out there with same issue, youre not alone. You may contact me at [email protected] filling a small claims lawsuit. They failed to provide me with what I contractually payed for.
Love this neighborhood gym! Has the right amount of equipment, kind staff, and isnt too busy.
Great gym with ample equipment and chill vibes!
I was a member of ECA for about 8 months before moving to another part of Washington. I found their trainers very professional and appreciated the consultation I received at the beginning of my membership, and continuous check ins that followed. The membership itself was extremely affordable- I paid for basic gym access which was about $30 dollars a month and included check ins with a personal trainer. The equipment was always clean and even during peak hours there was usually space to workout. If the main gym is full you can always go use free weights in a classroom area as long as class was not in session! I Highly recommend ECA.I forgot to cancel my membership for a few months after moving away, but once I emailed staff they were very prompt in responding and cancelled my membership immediately.I do not at all agree with others reviews about a pushy sales pitch. I went in for a tour with the intention of signing up for a membership and did so day of. Staff were very professional and informative. My husband went in for a tour and did not sign up, and received maybe a couple of emails after the fact. Nothing anybody would define as pushy.
Its heavily focused on making it easy to get to gym. classes all schedules.
Look at reviews on YELP, Small Business Bureau, Google, Facebook. Emerald City is clearly is not honest or fair with their customers. Its unfortunate because the employees and trainers are great people and bring positive energy and vibes everyday. Ill miss going here for workouts. This business will not last long with its poor leadership. I hope the employees can find a new gym that has a leadership style that better fits their personalities. The guy who sold me my membership 100% misrepresented the agreement I signed. I specifically told him I dont want to to sign a 1 year agreement in case the virus spikes again or I move to new city. Sure enough the virus spiked, and I moved to a new state. This company is still trying to charge me... and to cancel they make you pay all months upfront. The agreement I signed was not how it was described to me. I have a witness who was with me and was also conned into the 1 year membership. I get that gyms are having cash flow issues... but thats no excuse for using deceptive business tactics. Get your PPP loan, negotiate with your landlord, explain the situation to your customers. I hear Emerald City is offering a larger discount to join now... everyone beware of what you sign, do not trust these guys.
Pushy sales manager, disrespectful during the signing process and extremely deceptive with disclosing costs and membership terms. stay away from this place and dont let them take your bank and credit card information (they take both for no reason)
Dont believe the latest stream of 5-star reviews! The gym is so horrible, they are now PAYING their members to try and increase their online ratings.
Exceedingly unprofessional. Boldly defying the AGs orders to allow people to cancel memberships. Take over a week to reply and are rude and unprofessional once they do. Charged me for a full month even after gyms were closed and outright ignored my requests to freeze my account. Our salesperson specifically told us we would be allowed to cancel if gyms closed and now were being told thats not the case, according to a contract they havent given us a copy of. If you value being treated with respect and good customer service, go somewhere else. Outright breaking the law and taking advantage of people to make a quick buck. Absolutely disgusting behavior. And rather than be constructive about it, they’ll accuse you of lying, or outright lie once again in their response to your complaint. Truly horrible business. I highly recommend anyone being taken advantage of by ECA report them to the Attorney General. These are the kind of people that won’t act with human decency until forced to.
I tried to get a membership with Emerald City Athletics (future Shoreline location) but Danielle A. was so off putting that I wont be. We emailed a few times, but when I asked for pricing she quit responding. After calling her and leaving a message she called me back. She told me she was to busy to talk with me on the phone and if have to come in. I went in and got the same abrasive attitude. If this is any representation of Emerald City Athletics Im glad I didnt sign up.
Very clean! Not that busy during the day, super helpful staff, shoutout to Ro!
This gym is very strict about their policies despite covid and they cannot freeze your membership. So, whether or not you are comfortable to use to gym, you dont have the option to freeze, but pay the gym. Keep it up ECA! I had the intention of coming to the gym later, but your policies make me look for a better gym who has flexible policies.
Waste of money and the worst gym in Seattle, half the equipment closed, dirty equipment, rude staff, waste of 70 bucks a month and now they are trying to milk every last drop and tell me I have to pay them still when I had canceled my member ship and they want to say I didn’t, do not go here
Nice gym. I like it 👍🏽
Two thumbs way down. Unprofessional staff, zero communication. Pre-COVID it was pretty crummy: bad parking, over-crowded, machines breaking, immature trainers (making body-negative and misogynist comments within earshot of members), always trying to up-sell you on something. During COVID, it took repeated tries - emails, phone calls, etc. to pause and after many follow-ups eventually end membership. Ive heard from others that they were non-refundably charged during this time, what a nightmare! I would not consider going to this gym or any of their other locations again and would strongly recommend against enrolling here unless you are someone that doesnt mind a poorly managed facility and have the willpower to extricate yourself from a bad situation.
This gym has handled Covid extremely poorly, charging members when they were unable to use the gym and offering false promises of adding months to the end of your contract free of charge - only to end up charging you anyway. Do not go here!
Good place to get your sweat on. Sometimes the staff can be rude and dismissive.
I don’t know why a gym was put into such a badly soundproofed building. It was so peaceful when they were closed, now I have to listen to people dropping their weights at all hours of the day.
Do not give this place your phone number or your money. I visited this location one time and ultimately decided not to sign up for a membership after receiving unsolicited weight loss advice. Does this place tell all women they need to be “thin” and “toned”? Since explicitly asking to be taken off of their calling list I’ve received 9 sales calls. 9. Stop calling and stop harassing people who are not interested in your sexist, ableist business practices.
Contract. I had a similar experience as several others here in terms of being met with resistance to cancelation (they responded with “you can’t cancel, you agreed to 12 months” as well as being charged for a period they were not open. I’m seeing several responses from the company on here which I feel are misleading, so I’m posting this to clarify the situation.Their contract clearly states that the term is for the longer of 3 months or whatever period the member has prepaid for after which it reverts to month to month. Denying people’s requests to cancel their service (especially when that service is unusable due to covid) because they “agreed to a certain period” is a material misrepresentation of their own agreement.I read the reviews of dishonest/manipulative practices before joining this gym, but thought that A. It’s close enough to where I live to justify the risk, and B. I deal alright with pressure so how bad could it be?... I wish I had followed my gut.If you’re in the market, have a read on some of the reviews here, and note that the responses almost always evade the actual point being made by the reviewer. That says more than any review ever could.
The music is so bad it hurts
The gym itself is average, having most weightlifting equipment you need for a decent workout. However, the low rating is due to the staff and their aggressive sales pitch given to someone using a guest pass. I had signed up for a membership and given a 7 day guest pass that I gave to my partner. Prior to working out they forced her on a tour, a body mass index test, and then made her listen to a sales pitch to sign up around her BMI test. 30 minutes later, she was allowed to work out after trying to get her to sign up for personal training classes. Afterwards, they continued to message her after clearly communicating she had no interest in signing up. We wanted to have a gym we could visit together, however, their aggressive approach to forcing a sales pitch while using a 7 day pass made the decision easy. The facility is adequate, but small and cramped. Especially during COVID times. If you live in Fremont, the location is perfect. The actual equipment is nice and well maintained.
The facilities themself are incredibly average, there is nothing special or unique offered at this gym. I came in on a guest pass to trial the gym and see if I wanted to join myself. I have a degree in Exercise Science and have worked as a Certified Personal Trainer and as a Receptionist and Fitness Specialist for Health Clubs before and was shocked at the sales pitch given. It was incredibly aggressive, even after I mentioned my entire background and education was in fitness, the guy spoke to me in a way I found very condescending, explaining the benefits of exercise. I repeatedly mentioned my background and the fact that I was very comfortable in a gym, hoping to speed the whole thing up so I could work out and try the facility but it all fell on deaf ears and I continued to have my degree explained to me. The entire sales pitch took 33 minutes when it should have taken 10 tops and they tried to get me to sign a contract before I had even trialed the facilities which I found incredibly aggressive and rude. Friends of mine using the facility are being charged even during COVID when the doors are closed which seems completely inappropriate and a tone deaf response to how the community around them is struggling during a pandemic. In response to ECA: I do not appreciate being talked down to regarding my degree and education. I am appalled that you are continuing to do so in your response. I agree that most people do not have the education or comfort level in a gym that myself and employees of ECA do and my point which you failed to see was that your condescending tone turned me off the experience of the gym and is sure to do the same to many other newcomers to your gym. I am a thin and fit woman who has done a lot of work on my own self-image and body confidence and while I did say a goal of mine was to lose like 5 pounds of quarantine weight, the ECA employee suggested I could lose more. I was stunned to hear that from a fitness professional and is something that I would hope no one else would ever have to hear from an organization they are instilling trust in to respect their fitness journey. Im sure youll notice from other reviews, that I am not the only person who has been made to feel poorly about their body when trying to come to your gym, which you should be ashamed of, as it should be a safe place for self improvement. I also appreciate that your tour is in an effort to educate people to the services provided but you tried to get me to pay before I had even had a chance to try the gym for myself and 33 minutes is certainly excessive, like i said before, I could have been done it 10 since the rest of the 23 minutes was trying to sell me on the Champions membership for a higher price. I have given tours myself and been in the exact position your employees are in and have never treated newcomers as poorly as your team has.Best of luck in your future endeavors.
Amazing local community gym.
Oh man where do I start. First they are continuing payments for in the middle of a pandemic. Then their sales team use persistent calling, pressure, for all my friends to sign up when they only want to check out the gym. I was told I can use the in-body machine multiple times a month, but later found out I cant. Their fitness advisor told me to do cardio for 20 mins everyday after I worked out that resulted me in muscle mass loss. All that for $50/Mo. Seattle facility is very small. They kept saying they will expand but its been over 3 months. Stay away.
Im not sure why everyone is hating on this place? Its a good gym, everything is clean, the staff is friendly, and as long as you dont go during peak hours then there is plenty of equipment available. As far as billing goes this stuff is sort of standard practice with any gym. Usually there is a start-up fee of x then monthly payment of $29 a month plus sales tax, not bad compared to other gyms I looked at. I think the start up fee was about $120? If I remember correctly, either way thats just how gyms work.. And as far as the yearly fee, thats how your gym maintains everything people, weather it be new equipment, upgraded lockers or whatever, and that wasnt even that bad at $60. I like this gym. Only reason it got 4* was there is no sauna or steam room...
Weight lifting area expanded. Champions room expanded. Dark creepy room is gone. A great staff always ready to listen to your comments.
The way ECA has handled cancellations amidst a global pandemic is heartless and disgusting. They have made the process of cancelling incredibly difficult, with little wiggle room for the unprecedented circumstances customers are experiencing with health and finances. Each time I’ve inquired about cancelling, there was always a reason it couldn’t be done immediately, and now I’m out hundreds of dollars.. despite the fact they were LITERALLY CLOSED for several months. They had the AUDACITY to charge people monthly although they were unable to offer their services. I’ve had positive experiences with a former trainer of theirs, however their company needs to rework their contract to allow room for human decency. I just went into cancel and was met with manipulative sales tactics to keep me onboard and turn my frustrations back onto me. I’m extremely disappointed that a “health and fitness” facility does not value and respect the health and financial needs of their customers. If I could give ECA zero stars I would.
Convenient local gym!
Unethical business, DO NOT RECOMMEND. Unfortunately, they have shady billing and are out for your money. They drive hard sales pitches, provide unsolicited weight loss advice, and try to charge people wrongfully even amidst a global pandemic. Find a gym elsewhere, nothing they provide makes it worth the hassle. I promise.
I had so much fun at this location. I was working for the Boys & Girls Club location in Queen Anne so this was a great spot recommended by a friend. My trainer and I hit it off so quickly and she listened to what I had to say and encouraged me (and occasionally scolded me). All the trainers there were really fun people and always positive and helping out. I was able to get really nice personalized workout from her.
They make it impossible to cancel. I called to cancel, they said they cant take verbal. I walked over (lived down the street) and cancelled in person. They said it was all done (I should have asked for a confirmation notice). Three months later they have charged me three times, stating that they saw I called but never went in. Dont trust this gym.
I have been going to the gym for about and month and really enjoy it. Very clean with newer equipment. Amazing staff and fitness classes that are included with the membership.I have been working with a trainer named Kira who is the best trainer I have ever worked with. She is extremely knowledgeable about fitness and nutrition and has designed a complete nutrition and workout plan. Thirty minutes with her three times a week is literally the best :)
This place is awesome!! Top Notch equipment. The staff are polite, friendly and courteous.
The gym itself is adequate, however they are deceitful and unprofessional when it comes to membership sales. I was lied to in order to induce immediate sign up. Regretting my decision, which was based on inaccurate information provided by the sales rep, I spoke with two managers and explained the situation. They both ignored the facts I provided and refused to terminate my membership. This is a shady company and I would advise extreme caution before joining.
So disappointed in ECA’s customer service. Watch out for their lack of ethics on their cancellation policy. I tried to cancel due to Covid restrictions and they wouldn’t allow me to cancel via phone, email or letter. Only by coming in person during a pandemic and when I have a stage 4 cancer boyfriend at home. By the time I could safely come in to cancel I had accrued $120 in additional monthly charges plus a $60 yearly maintenance charge (even after I had given my notice!!) They assured me that they are unable to activate a reimbursement (yea right!!) They lost a customer that would have rejoined once this all settles down.
Great equipment.
Experienced a great tour of the facility. They offer many options for a thorough fitness regimen. Very welcoming staff. Clean and well maintained. Top notch equipment. Definitely like their hours for my convenience!
I wouldn’t advise joining this gym unless you like never being able to use any weights or machines you want to. They try to fit as many people as possible in a pretty small place and the only time there aren’t a wall to wall amount of people is after 8 pm. Outside of that it’s a solid gym, but the fact it’s so busy all the time is a killer. Consider a different gym
Great equipment, amazing staff and wonderful management. I highly recommend this gym. Best one in Seattle.
In the middle of a pandemic they feel the need to make cancelation as confusing as possible and capitalize off of it. Not to mention rushing to re-open and charging me over 100$ when I was required to come into their facility to cancel my membership.Seems unprofessional and just poorly managed overall.
Abysmal business practices and customer service. I separated my shoulder while mountain biking on Sunday and cannot workout for 4-6 months. When I went in to cancel my pass (because the only ways to cancel, even during Covid, are in person or via certified, mailed letter), I was told I had to pay for the next month because all pass cancellations require a 30-day notice. Listen, I wish as much as you that I could have received a 30-day notice I was going to separate my shoulder, but thats wishful thinking. The fact that a gym of this scale, with multiple locations and a long operating history, isnt more accommodating for acute injuries is flabbergasting. And this is all on top of management making the boneheaded decision to charge members through Covid while the gym was shut down, which is a borderline nefarious business decision. There are dozens of other gyms in the area - I would NOT waste your time and money here.
