It‘s so hard to find an honest, ethical mechanic these days, but Mark is definitely one of the rare few! My 4Runner had been having some weird transmission issues that other shops could not figure out, so Mark suggested a rebuild because of a past incident getting coolant into the trans.. I told him go ahead because I could tell he’s an honest guy. He texted me pictures of the whole entire rebuild as it was happening, showing me what broken parts came out and what new parts were going in, which was very thoughtful. I got my car back on a Friday night, and unfortunately once I drove it home the same weird problems started happening again. So I called Mark and he was super apologetic and totally baffled as to what could be wrong with my car after the whole rebuild. Mark told me to bring it back on Monday so they could investigate, and after my car was there for about an hour I get a call from Mark saying that due to an unforeseen issue his shop had to suddenly close down, maybe permanently (which hopefully doesnt happen). I was honestly a little worried that I had just spent a lot of money without actually fixing my car, so I was surprised when Mark said he would refund me the entire amount that I had spent on the rebuild! He totally didn’t have to do that, but I am so so grateful that he did. Given his professional work I’m pretty confident at this point that the original issue is not with the transmission, but still I’m forever grateful that the damage inside my transmission is now take care of. The 4-speed transmission on the Galaxie hadnt been worked on in 50 years and now it runs like butter.A month later, Ken and Mark fixed the transmission on my Torino, too. I noticed some leakage from the underside of my vehicle and did not want to deal with dealerships and was directed to Kings.Once I dropped it off Mark came out and sanitized the touched spots in my car before and after they looked at it, really nice considering covid and general germs. Ive had great experiences both times Ive brought my car into Kings Transmission. The first time, I had a transmission issue, one shop told me I needed a new engine, the other shop quoted me $1k for a part and the labor. A friend recommended Kings and Im so glad I went. Not only did they have the part, he found out it was a piece that had been recalled. Did it all for a fracture of the price and I was back on the road. I took it again for an tune up and engine flush and I was happy with the service, their graciousness and the quick turnaround.

Very quick turnaround. I drove in for an estimate, expecting to hear back the next day on pricing. It ended up being a minor job, and Kings called me back within a few hours letting me know the work had been done. I own a small tour company and I purchased a couple of used shuttle buses both eventually need transmission rebuild. Mark Kings transmission took care of me on both occasions and provided a warranty and I have never had an issue with either one of those vehicles. So naturally when my clutch broke on my personal car it was a no-brainer I went straight to Kings transmission. My transmission was making a whirling noise so I took it in to these guys after seeing all of the great reviews they have online. I was not disappointed! They told me what needed to be done in the future and what is not needed to be done. Gave me great options and it was great to hear they were looking after the customer versus their bottom line. Highest recommendations for Kings! Our 04 jeep liberty was stuck in the 4wd drive setting and mark was able to identify exactly the cause of the problem (broken cable). My experience with King’s Transmission and Mark was very good.The transmission in my 2007 Outback 3.0 v6 LL Bean should not have failed at 122,000 miles, but it did. Subaru quoted me $6,000, which I took a pass on, and I am glad I did. I called several transmission shops for sight-unseen rebuild bids (it could not be driven). Mark at King’s Transmission was responsive, gave me a competitive bid and a quick turnaround time frame. King’s 5-year/50,000 mile warranty was the best by far (Subaru offered a 1-year warranty on a replacement). Mark arranged to have my car towed from the Subaru dealership and they got to work on it right away. Not only was the transmission toast, one side of the rear differential was as well. Mark was very fair on the pricing for this unforeseen additional work. He was attentive and kept me appraised of the repair. Aside from the obvious, this was a hassle-free experience. I will recommend King’s Transmission to my friends and family.

Best transmission rebuild service ever! You cannot beat the customer service that Mark provided, and its extremely hard to beat the 50K miles/5 year warranty on a rebuild. It is has been a month or so since the rebuild, and my BMW 530i is running in tip-top shape. Definitely would recommend this place to any dealing with transmission issues.

I have been chasing a issue with my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee for over a year now. I have taken it to other mechanics for diagnostics and have replaced all components from the breaks, steering, suspension and front axle shafts on their recommendation in hopes of solving the issue. None of them fixed my problem. Since it sounded like an issue from transmission to transfer case to front differential, I decided to take it to a mechanic that specializes in that area. I dropped my car off at Kings Transmission at 8:45 am. At 10:15 they called me and told me my issue. Something small any home mechanic like myself could do. Even offed up a few places to buy the part so I could do it myself and didnt charge me for the diagnostic.Straight forward, Friendly and Honest Shop.

But that’s just what happened when I had my car towed to Kings after getting a transmission malfunction message and experiencing problems with the car not shifting into the proper gears. I have had nightmare experiences with my 2009 Subaru Impreza which I bought used from a private seller in 2015. Kept running into problems one after another. Some could have been from poor upkeep on maintenance on my part, but many problems seemed related to issues beyond my control: clutch went out first summer, power steering line blew after a bad encounter with a deep pothole on the freeway, engine blew on a long road trip after a miscommunication with a mechanic which required a full engine replacement.Finally arrived in Seattle in 2016 and my car was still not acting great. My dad (a mechanic himself) helped me call around and felt really good about Kings. Took the car to them and they discovered that in the midst of all the other repairs, my transmission was also shot. They were so transparent and supportive in helping me make the best decisions for repairs.In the interim between then and now I have had some less than stellar experiences with other mechanics for routine maintenance in Seattle. There was a stark difference between the communication with the King’s versus the others I dealt with.Then, within the last several months, what started as a small rattle grew to a significant one causing me to dread knowing what was happening beneath the hood. With everything that has happened in the past I was sure it was going to be another major repair. I finally decided to take it to King’s once again hoping for the same transparency and support that stood out to me from my first experience with them.I definitely received the service I hoped for. Mark patiently listened to my sob story and validated my concerns. I asked for honest opinions on whether or not I should keep putting money into repairs on my vehicle and he agreed to giving me an honest opinion. At the end of the day he found my rattle to be a fairly minor problem with a loose exhaust pipe which he re-fastened for me at no charge and reassured me that everything else seemed to be running fine.Even though it was such a small fix, the trust, communication, and quality of service stands out. For a person who does a lot of his in work on his car I was very reluctant to call a mechanic when I had an issue with my 2007 BMW 328xi. But once I realized the problem was bigger than my ability I reached out to Kings transmission. The service was fantastic, Mark was in constant contact with me, and had my car for a total of two days. I rarely write reviews but the level of service provide by Kings definitely warneted it.

I do just about all my own maintenance (except auto transmissions), and they have never been any less than excellent to work with. I work a couple of blocks from Kings in Seattle, and have taken all my vehicles there for the last 15 years anytime theyve needed transmission work. Got my new to me 95 Cherokee, took it over to them to have them service the transmission so I had a baseline for future maintenance. They did their usual great job, and gave me a list of other little things that needed to be done, and a good idea of when I might need to take care of them and and an order of importance. I recommend them to all my friends.

We had a Jeep Cherokee with a speedometer out. We were expecting it to cost more than it was worth. After they did their diagnostic and they called me and left a message saying they had fixed the problem. When we showed up to pick up the vehicle they told us it was simply a disconnected wire. Im so grateful that they didnt take advantage. I would definitely take my vehicle into them again.

I brought both my truck and my classic car here. Service is fantastic! The turnaround on the classic exceeded my expectations. The rebuilt transmission in my truck shifts like new. They later went out of their way to diagnose a problem that was finally not caused by the transmission, but by the computer, plus helped me find the right computer through a used parts network. My longtime mechanic diagnosed a whirring noise in the front end of my 2008 Mercedes-Benz C300 as bad bearings in the front differential, so he referred me to Kings Transmission. However, before having it diagnosed by my mechanic I had Les Schwab look at it, which they did, and according to Les Schwab the right wheel bearing was going out, which my mechanic supposedly repaired less than a year ago. Les Schwab made no mention of the front differential bearings as being the source of the problem.After my mechanic diagnosed a different problem than Les Schwab, I took the car to Kings Transmission for a diagnosis. If it was the front differential bearings, we were looking at a $3000+ repair bill. I gave Kings the go-ahead to do the repairs; however, after they began to disassemble the right wheel, the mechanic discovered that it was not the front differential bearings that were bad. The noise was coming from the same right wheel bearings I supposedly had repaired by my mechanic less than a year ago. In less than half a day the car was repaired for under $1000 and the whirring noise was completely gone. The difference in sound between Kings Transmissions wheel bearing repair and my former mechanics repair is like night and day.Excellent service. Prompt. Good phone call followup and guidance. I highly recommend Kings Transmission.

What a breath of fresh air! I took my 2008 Audi into Mark, freaking out that I was going to have an expensive fix on my hands. About two hours after I dropped of my car, Mark not only told me that my transmission was fine, he didnt charge me a dime for the doagnosis! What I needed was a software update for my transmission, and Mark even went as far as to coach me through how to approach the dealership to make it as easy as possible. Decided to have the transmission rebuilt on an older vehicle. They did a great job communicating, did very good work, and gave us a rental car while the work was being done.

Referred by my long time mechanic who tells the truth even if it means he doesnt get a job out of it. At Kings, I paid them for a diagnostic. Instead of making up a repair, he told me a regular mechanic could do the repairs for less and he was right. They know what they are doing, even with my complicated late model BMW. Excellent work!

Mark and his crew did a great job of not only explaining but also showing me what was wrong with my transmission. I have heard nothing but good things about Kings and I see now that it is well deserved. I would not hesitate to send friends or family to Kings.

True excellence. After getting a quote from Phil Smart for a transmission flush & oil change for my 94 Benz, I called Mark at Kings Transmission. His estimate came in well under the dealership (no big shock) -- what was surprising was Marks thoroughness, excellent communication, & willingness to work with my previous auto technician. Furthermore, Mark took the time to explain to me what was wrong with my car and how he planned on fixing it permanently & inexpensively.As a woman, I frequently feel patronized or straight-up swindled when I take my car in for service -- Mark treated me like a peer -- like the intelligent, responsible adult I am. I cant recommend he and his team enough. Ill definitely go back -- for everything from an oil change or burned out bulb to a transmission overhaul.

Mark was fantastic! Id run my transmission out of fluid and just kept driving it. Luckily I brought it in before it was too late, but it needed serious repair. Mark explained the repairs needed and gave me a price breakdown, didnt rush a decision from me, and once I gave him the go ahead, I couldnt believe how quickly it was done. Price came in under what I had been told. Couldnt be happier.

I selected Kings Transmission based on the reviews online. Usually, I rely on referrals, but this time, I chose to check a couple of web listings. With the exception of one guy, who seemed to have made it his mission to bad-mouth them (under different names on multiple sites, no less!), the reviews were uniformly good.I had a mediocre experience with another transmission shop a couple of years ago, so I was skeptical. Boy, was I surprised with Mark at Kings!I dropped my truck off after hours, and took off for an out-of-State vacation for a week. What was awesome, was that Mark sent me a series of photos - via text - showing me exactly what had happened inside my tranny. I had hoped it would be a couple of solenoids or something, but really, I needed a total rebuild. I thought the cost quoted was reasonable, asked a couple of questions, and told him to go ahead.Two days later, he sent me a text, saying the truck was ready. I picked it up after I got back from vacation. It took a week or so before I took the truck out on the freeway, when I discovered that I no longer had overdrive. I took it back in a day later, and it turned out I had an electrical problem that I needed to take care of before they could fix the overdrive issue.I took it home and did what I needed to do, then took it back to Kings a few days later. Mark identified the problem (a part failure) and fixed it the same day at no charge to me.So, despite the fact that I had to make a couple of trips to their shop, I was well-taken care of, and I would gladly give them a referral! Great service, good warranty, reasonable price. And they got the work done without getting oil & grease all over the inside of my truck :) 5-Star!

Fantastic transmission shop! My name is Thom and I have been driving German cars my entire life. I live in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle. I own a 2006 Volkswagen Touareg and I recently got transmission work done at Kings Transmission on 4th Ave in Seattle. When I brought my SUV there I was greeted by the shop manager, Mark. Mark was a kind, knowledgeable and a pleasure to deal with. My differential and transfer case needed work and since this is an SUV, I knew it would be slightly higher in price than just a clutch replacement. Nonetheless, I had already called ahead and I found that Kings Transmission had the best price in comparison. I dropped my car and within 2 days it was flawlessly done, cleaned and running like a cheetah!

I would like to start my review with this. Mark is the most rude, most disrespectful, dishonest customer service rep I have encountered. I am a business owner myself and I would never have a person with this personality facing my customers.First of all, I came to the shop because my transmission was leaking. So I called because my transmission was rebuild over 2 years ago at this shop. Before calling I looked at my certificate and said 3year/. 36k warranty. The certificate said the issue date but no mileage recorded, so based on the date it was under warranty. When I called and talked to mark and explained to him the situation he told me to come on in and they would take care of it, so I dropped off my car a couple days later. Once it was ready they called me and said it is 150 dollars ( dont recall the exact amount ) and I replied with discomfort because it was supposed to be under warranty. He said that I went over my allowed mileage. I replied that in the certificate they issued had no mileage recorded only date, so I was going for the date of the warranty. Then I said ok let me come over and lets discuss this. When I arrived I went into my cars glovebox to reach for my certificate and SURPRISE SURPRISE!! Mark had gone ILLEGALLY into my glove compartment without my permission, and wrote the mileage on the certificate with a pen. I was very upset! First, he tried to hide it by not mentioning it, second, when I questioned him about it why he would do something like that, he said that he can do WHATEVER HE WANTED because it was his certificate, he issued it. And I was so surprised by his response that I asked for a manager or someone else to talk to and he said that there is no one else. He said I am the guy to talk to.I said I will stay here until I talked to someone else above you, so mark proceeded to park my car outside and said you win, thats your car GET OUT.I said I dont care about winning, you did something illegal and I want to report you, so he laughed and said do whatever you want. So I left.Now I am very upset and surprised for the way I was treated. This guy has no shame. I hope the owner Ken Armstrong takes action on this. I am sorry sir but you are losing business with this guy Mark.

These people are dishonest. Stay far, far away. They will trick you if you give them the benefit of the doubt, and once they sink their hooks into you, they will not let you or your car go!I had my 2002 Mazda 626 (worth about $3,000) towed to King’s last week. I was told over the phone that there was something seriously wrong with the automatic transmission (Duh, that’s why it was towed maybe?), and that it would either be an $1,800 repair or a $3,100 repair. I told the manager, Mark, that I needed to know which it would be before I could authorize anything.DON’T DO THIS! King’s will take that as verbal authorization to remove your transmission. It doesn’t make ANY difference what you do after that—they WILL charge you for several hours of “work” even if you decide the car is totaled and junk it.Bear in mind that their website says: “When you come in, you’ll receive a free estimate, diagnostic testing and road testing to evaluate your vehicle and determine the necessary repairs.”So guess what happened? Yep, coincidentally, it was the $3,100 job—not worth doing. King’s CLAIMS I got the “free” determination of the necessary repairs”, but still demanded over $500 for unspecified extra “work”. I also learned later that the transmissionsin Mazda 626s are frequently complete replacements, and King’s knew it. How do I know this? It’s right on their website!Here’s the rich part: King’s won’t even let you walk away and fight it out with you in court! What they do is threaten to have your car put into city impound if you don’t pay in full within 3 days. Mark, the Manager, just laughed his butt off when he explained how he does this: They have it towed to one of the impound locations, and will REFUSE to tell you which one! By the time you figure it out, and bail your car out, you have several hundred dollars MORE in fees and chargesto deal with, and the CITY will sue you even of the car is worth nothing.Initially Kings offered a compromise of $183, and when I accepted and agreed to pay, they changed their mind and demanded payment in full before he would release the totaled car to MY salvage hauler. These people are dishonest and unwilling to compromise. Expectto be charged at least $500 just to get a real estimate. If our communications had been in writing, I would have sued King’s. But they know it’s a He Said/She Said when it’sverbal, and so they use that to run up a bill and hold your vehicle hostage. They coerce you into paying a bogus $500 bill by having the City of Seattle come after you for impound charges!Oh, heres another of their tricks: Our scanner is broken, so we cant send you a written estimate or invoice. Sorry.Theyre not a member of BBB, and they wont let anyone post honest reviews on their website--they just cherrypick their own sham reviews. Ive filed complaints against them with the FTC, the State of Washington and the City of Seattle.

THE ABSOLUTE WORST PLACE TO TAKE YOUR CAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY GAVE ME A SOLID QUOTE TO FIX MY TRANSMISSION. I LEFT THE CAR THERE IN RUNNING CONDITION I DROVE IT THERE. THEY CALLED ME 2 DAYS LATER AND TOLD ME IT WOULD COST AN EXTRA $1000. I TOLD THEM I DIDNT HAVE IT. THEY PUSHED MY CAR OUT OF THE GARAGE AND LEFT MY TRANSMISSION SITTING ON THE GROUND NEXT TO IT WITH A SMALL BOX OF PARTS. THEY CHARGED ME $500 TO COME GET MY CAR IN PIECES AND SLAMMED THE DOOR ON MY FACE AS I WAS TALKING TO THEM. NEVER EVER GO HERE!!!!!!

This garage ignored the indicator light (w/ multiple visits over a two week period) and another reputable garage advice of the problem to fix. kings talked a talk (not good) but totally mis diagnosed and in the process charged thousands of dollars. they are indifferent to the customer. steer clear of this garage even if your steering doesnt work.

When my transmissionon my 1999 lexus went bad I was referred to Kings. Mark Shaw deteremined that it was due to the car accident a short time befor that. He was so heplful with his explanation, I was able to get a partial refund and more evidence to hold the responsible party accountable. They went the extra mile! Thanks Kings !
