I’ve been coming here for years. Originally because they were the only place in town that could “really” clean my car. They don’t miss anything, that I appreciate! In addition to the top notch wash, they have some of the best BBQ in town. Their brisket cannot be beat! The Thumb is more than just a few things, they have everything. It’s also a small gift shop. When the holidays roll around, I can’t walk out without dropping a dime! On top of all this, their customer service is beyond. They do everything better!
I was really excited to try this place. I ended up being extremely disappointed. One thing I looked forward to was the hashbrown cakes. They came out so burned we couldnt even bite into them. We sent them back and they came out burned again, only slightly less. Not edible. The meats were all OK, I suppose thats their specialty, but all in all- we were mostly all disappointed in everything we got. We usually give places a second chance, but we decided this place isnt worth it.
Great bbq dishes. The pork and brisket were so tender and moist. The BBQ sauce was delicious - had just enough spice to it. To give it a little kick. Had our car detailed there while we had breakfast and browsed through the store. Will definitely be back!
Mouth watering yumtastic. Sooooo gooood. Mmmmm.
Pleasantly Surprised... Amazing flavor! This was our first time and we will be back... My wife and I loved the BBQ brisket and pulled pork along with the Kale Salad. Service was excellent and food arrived quick. Very impressed :>
Excellent! 4 of us were there & everything was delicious: catfish, brisket, ribs, pulled pork sandwich, and sides were great too. Hot & fresh. We all agreed we will return for more next time were in town!
Such a fun little gas station! This is a gem of a place; you would never know you can get the best lunch and cutest gifts from here. Worth a drive across the valley. You do not want to miss a visit here.
Some of the best barbecue Ive ever had. I had my car detailed as well and they did an outstanding job. You can get gas, barbecue, car wash, shopping, bakery, this place has it all. This will be my new go to place for almost everything.
Love The Thumb! Mike and family are very welcoming and the BBQ is outstanding. One of the highlights the kids really enjoy is the awesome saltwater fish tank and Mike went out of his way, in the middle of his meal break, and offered to let our girls feed the fish. We always have a great time at The Thumb. Thanks Mike!
Very good barbecue. I plan to return.
Insanely good barbecue paired with a gift shop. Plenty of cool souvenirs and nick nacks to browse while you wait for your food. Their muffins are good too!
A great place to stop by and get some good BBQ, for anyone who doesnt like really spicy BBQ this is the place youve been looking for. Ive tried their brisket and pulled pork and both were really good and the staff is super friendly and helpful. Definitely lives up to its name 👍
I saw this place on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives. OMG!!! I had the Toms half stack. This meal would be my last, if I had to choose. Well worth the drive from Central Phoenix.
WOW, Excellent BBQ, that doesnt need to be sauced. Chili is excellent, cornbread is so-so but not bad. Hangover hash is really good. If your into beer try the Scottsdale Blond or Orange Blossom they are both excellent beers they carry on tap.Cute decor, fun place to come to. They have a bakery and items in the case look delicious. You order at the counter and they bring your items to your table. If your getting the cobbler or apple crisp make sure you order with your food as I believe they are made fresh. If you like apples & ice cream...for sure get the apple crisp...its delicious, warm and they put the ice cream in a separate container so, its not running all over the warm out of the oven apple crisp. Its got just the right amount of spice and isnt to sweet. Definitely worth getting. ENJOY!Definitely a place to check out, gas up & wash your car. Well be back again.
Loved the BBQ here! And all kinds of cute stuff to buy! 😁
Heard great things, Drove 40 minutes for some of the driest bbq I’ve had, first order of ribs were so bad we had to send them back, for which they apologized and replaced them. Really just went down hill from there. The Sides were lacking in Flavor, Atmosphere was cool and Involvement with staff was pleasant. Just felt like we were getting left overs reheated at 3pm on a Saturday.
Went to this gas station at 8pm, wanted to pay cash but the inside was already locked and workers were closing the store. I paid for $20 at the pump with a credit card and they put a pending charge of $150 on my account. It’s been 3 days and the charge is still pending, even after I called and talked to an administrator who assured me these pending charges clear on average in 1 day. Not Impressed with companies who utilize others money without consent for business actives.
This place was one of the worst bbq places we’ve ever had. We were gonna do the brown bag special. Was offered to upgrade our sides from chips to Mac n cheese, fries, etc. so we did. Wanted fries and Mac n cheese and then asked to upgrade to the large drink. Another lady then comes over and says we can’t do that. We have to stick with the chips and regular drink cause that’s what the meal was. Then why was the upgrade OFFERED to us??? We then just decide, give us the regular pork sandwich cause at this point we want the specific sides we chose. Got our food and, it did not look like pork. Looked at our receipt and tried it, definitely not pork. We were charged for and received brisket.... we didn’t have time to wait another 20-25min for them to correct it because my husband needed to get back to work. We tried the brisket and it was all fat. There was no meat to it. We both ate just our sides and left. We LOVE supporting local restaurants but this is one we definitely won’t be going back to.
This is such a hidden gem. They have all kinds of cool things for sale on the store like Arizona memorabilia, cups, home decor, wine and beer. They were out of everything but chicken, and the chicken was dry.
Not the best BBQ, they dint prepare for Memorial weekend visitors. They were sold out of a lot of meats and sides. Almost left and went somewhere else but decided to stay. One person was at least apologetic which was kind of them. May give them a another chance next time in Arizona.
While the Thumb is the best car wash in the area, here on Labor Day, they seem to have 1, sometimes 2, people working in the car cleaning area after the car comes thru the automated washing tunnel. Taking well over an hour to get a car wash!!!! Not how I imagined I would be spending an hour during Labor Day. Why open with so few workers, leads to frustration and unhappy customers. At least let us know up front.
This place is worth all the hype its given! It is inside as part of a convenience store for a gas station. Dont let that fool you. It is wonderful. The food is amazing! We had brisket, pulled pork and chicken. All three were some of the best I have ever had. The beans, fries, coleslaw were wonderful as well and the cornbread was perfect. Not too dry not gummy and not too sweet! Their peach crisp is to die for! Well be back!👍😋😁
I used to work here and never got tired of the food. One of the best bbq spots in town! So many choices on the menu and great management. Go to spot!!!
We used to LOVE the thumb! It’s delicious! And we’ve recommended it to a lot of friends and family. But a few recipes have changed with the new chef and they are not as good. The baked Mac n’ cheese used to be amazing and now it’s just okay. Baked beans recipe seems to also have changed and is now not quite as good as it used to be. The Mexican corn is gone from the menu. The biggest change and disappointment is the Mean Mr. Mustard sauce. It used to be tangy, a little sweet and amazing on the brisket sandwich. I pretty much came for the mustard and brisket. Now it’s a brown spicy mustard and no good. Pleeeeeeease pretty please bring back the old sweet mustard recipe! We don’t come as much as we use to because of these changes. Used to be five stars all the way. Meats are still great.
Great food and novelty shop all in one.. Country style art and Gilt ship.. Most fun
Some of the best BBQ in Scottsdale. Excellent sauces to fit most any preference. It can get VERY crowded around typical mealtimes. Plan accordingly, or go early or later. Friendly staff, and most excellent food.
Looking for BBQ in Scottsdale? This is the perfect spot. We got the 3 meat platter where we chose 2 brisket & 1 pulled pork. Wow! The brisket was juicy and tender, so full of flavor. The platter also comes with so many sides to choose from! We got fries and Mac and Cheese. The fries were long and crispy. The Mac & Cheese was delicious and very cheesy. We also got the Brisket Stack which I highly recommend. The brisket stack was so tasty, my boyfriend and I finished that so fast. If youre able to go, please order it! Their apple cobbler dessert was soooo satisfying and the perfect way to end a hearty, flavorsome meal. The service here is outstanding and truly incredible. This is worth checking out if youre in the area! The manager, Mike, is super friendly and generous. He goes out of his way to make sure your experience is phenomenal. Well be back and were letting all our friends know about this spot!
Went to The Thumb on Saturday (6/5 first time) to have my truck washed and to grab some lunch. I paid $31 including the tip for the wash and $35 for our lunch. The lunch was great 👍 but the wash was not so great. They were suppose to wipe the interior and clean the wheels and it wasnt done! So, I got home and did it myself! Why charge people for something you say youre going to do and dont do it!?Well go back for the food but not for a wash....
What a fun place. Had no idea it existed. Found it only because my fiance and I were watching our nephews hockey game next door and there really isnt much around here, you google food nearby and this gas station comes up as having been on Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives! So we checked it out. Its a whole cute store in there. The breakfast was amazing! 100 year old sourdough toast with two perfect eggs. Hash brown cakes that Ive never had in my life.and the most perfect crispy Bacon. A really nice outdoor seating area as well. My fiance had a huge breakfast burrito. Ate the other half the next day.
Food was on the expensive side but like in life, you get what you pay for. The brisket I had was just pulled from smoker & honestly 1 of the best pork dishes Ive ever had. The breakfast pastry is another great choice. I dont recommend filling your tank up there though as prices tend to about 30¢ more than chain gas stations (QT, CircleK etc).
Very disappointed! I ordered the rib platter, it came with 4 ribs that were extremely small. The toasted bread tasted like the butter was freezer burned, odd taste. The majority of our food remained under the heat lamp while waiting on the Mac and cheese. Server brought the food I asked for a particular bbq sauce they were out. I asked for pickles, they were out. Took a bite of the potato salad and it was warm from being under the heat lamp for so long. I told our server about our disappointment and his response was “sorry” and walked off. I spent over $50 on nothing, a very sad experience.
Visited today for the first time. It is amazing to me how mismanaged this business is. After waiting 15 minutes in line to order BBQ I was informed of a 20 minute wait time to get my brisket sandwich! So I passed. At the vacuum and drying station there were at least 4 employees wandering around doing nothing while people were waiting for their vehicles. They actually left the tailgate on my truck down as I drove out! Will not go back, ever.
Who knew that while filling up you car with gasoline, you could walk into the store and order some outstanding BBQ. We tried the pulled pork sliders which did not dissapoint. They have a wonderful addictive BBQ flavor. While we were waiting for our order we browsed their do not miss very well stocked unique gift shop. The Thumb is a delightful place to fuel up your automobile and enjoy some thoroughly delightful BBQ. A true Do Not Miss
This is not your typical, average gas station. It has a bakery, restaurant, gift shop, wine shop, truck/boat/RV shop, smokehouse and coffee shop. This definitely raise the bar of a fancy gas station. It was my first visit of the area and I was astonished of how it look. Definitely check the area out! It is amazing.
Decent BBQ lunch with an incredible in store shipping experience.
UPDATE: Mike the GM contacted me, which to me means everything, and offered to make it right. Upgrading to 4 stars just because of that action! Go check out the Thumb. Maybe a more open status will bring them back to their dependable go-to status!I realize it’s been a rough year but disappointed at our lunch today. I ordered my burger on a bed of greens instead of a bun and they served with two leaves of lettuce. $14 burger patty with two lettuce leaves. Sauces are down to 4 flavors. None of them were great. Overall it was an expensive mediocre lunch. Manager pretended to ask if all was ok but ignored us.... bummer. Maybe things will improve as things get back to normal. Maybe.
Gas station goood… BBQ greaaat… Car wash… not good at all. Got the hand wash on my daughters car and it looked like they just sprayed it down and let it air dry. I brought it up and the first person I encountered said they didn’t do it and didn’t seem to care. The young man who came over that did “clean” the car only made excuses while wiping the spots and dirt off. Probably scratching the finish on a brand new car. I’m not being picky. This was a terrible job and then handled poorly. I tipped the kid 20. It’s not his fault, it’s his managers for not training him or setting the right expectation. I give The Thumb’s wash a thumbs down 👎🏼 And I will never wash there again.
Best hand car wash in town. If you love your vehicle, bring it here.
This is the behavior you can expect if youre working for Diana. I am the girlfriend of a man who works there who was recently diagnosed with schizophrenia and we made it very clean that he can not work late nights and the past two weeks they have tried to make him work late. Regardless of what she says on text. In person they walk all over my poor man. The money aint worth it. Trust me. Corporate is being contacted tomorrow
The food is to die for and the Thumb has a great gift shop. I would recommend it as a place to eat when in Scottsdale.I had put a less than stellar review recently. I changed it because the manager made it right. It means a lot to be listened to and to be provided with a valid reason for unusually slow service (Superbowl Sunday and employees absent).
They do a great job at a good price with the car wash. I had an issue and the manager was pleasant to deal with and easy to work with in resolving it. Theres a lot of cute stuff inside too and the food is phenomenal.
Good Bar-bQ. The best that l have had in the west, does not compare to the south (real Q) they do not have a sweet tea, which made me sad. Great environment & staff.
Such a great gas station. Literally discovered this place today although I live super close to it I dont have a gas car so it was by chance when I was filling up air for the tires that I decided to go inside. Its super-clean with friendly service and I had no idea there was a restaurant style setup in here. Great selection of snacks and drinks as well and it connects all the way to the back where theres a car wash (although I havent that out yet).Overall, a great place with a very small-town feel to it. Not the normal Scottsdale-style establishment.
Great car wash, people watching and bbq.I recommend the experience.
If you just got done off-roading anywhere near this place dont bother stopping for a car wash. They will add $10 extra even if the dirt on your truck is minimal. It doesnt say it anywhere in their pricing, just another fee to keep this place running because it was dead.
Best brisket I have ever had and I am honestly not a fan of barbecue.
This place has some interesting concoctions but there are better barbecue places and there are better breakfast places. A fun place to take the kids though....
Getting gas never smelled so good, bbq is awesome
This place I came upon and I am pleased to say I am glad I did. The Thumb is a store that offers a variety of things. From souvrneirs to amazing BBQ and quality service. As well as a Car Wash. The one that I experienced was their BBQ. They have some amazing BBQ, very tender and juicy brisket. The Brisket Stack is super delicious. Everything smells amazing and tastes great. The staff are friendly. The order I placed on the phone was ready and hot as soon as I arrived. I recommend trying out this place if you are ever over in Scottsdale.
Amazing food! I stopped at The Thumb during a visit to Phoenix and Scottsdale, and its one of my all-time favorite locations in the area. The attention to detail on every menu item is incredible, and they take so much pride in what they do. Be sure to try the brisket and egg breakfast tacos. Beyond great food, coffee, and wine, they also have a fun mixture of unique gifts and home decor. I found a pen holder that looks like an old metal microphone. I cant say enough great things about The Thumb.
Very clean place, Sunoco brand gas was fresh and excellent and I like the fact that even with the store closed you still can get the gas using your cards.
This might be a fun place to hang out but I wouldnt advise anyone to eat here. Triedtheir variety taco platter that comes wsupposedly crispy corn tortillas. They areNOT AT ALL CRISPY, just grilled & limp.the filling of beef brisket, chicken & pulledpork is more the consistency of slop for ahog then food prepared for humanconsumption. I was so disgusted I leftthe platter outside & didnt EVEN go backinside to demand a refund. $16.00 dollarsliterally down the drain & Im still hungry.I WILL NEVER GO BACK THERE TO EAT,EVER. And if youre wise the THUMB is strictlyjust a fun place to hang out, but not to consumefood!
Gas station/car wash/diner/shop. Very clean. Interesting things to shop for. Food looks great. Had a freshly baked muffin which was very good. Decent vanilla latte. I will go back to try their bbq.
I couldn’t believe that this is a gas station. THE BBQ TACOS WAS FANTASTIC. And the gift shop is full of interesting stuff. Definitely, we will go back again. Stay safe everyone❤️
Out of what we wanted, overall a DDD let down. We have eaten at several...by far not recommend by RRR
Expensive, but pretty good BBQ. Outdoor seating was pleasant, and food came within 10 minutes.
This barbecue is the best! Do not pass by this place without stopping and trying it out. I live 3 1/2 hours from The Thumb and I can see myself taking a little road trip just to have lunch one day. You won’t regret it!
So amazing! Best ribs ever
I have only ever had the green apple and date salad and several varieties of their cookies however all have been excellent
Went today at 11:30am . Waited in line to find out they had no brisket. Really? Would a sign be better than wasting our time. Only one person taking orders and he was S L O W... disappointing ...
Ordered delivery through an app. Didnt get 1/2 my order, so my husband and I shared the pulled pork. I think perhaps the restaurant could not fill my order because the refund showed on my receipt upon delivery. It would have been nice if they had reached out to me to see if I would like to replace the entree with something else. As for the pulled pork, it was ok. Good sauce, slaw, and mac though. The chips were missing too. Im over delivery apps for sure. But, I may give The Thumb another try.
Love the Thumb! Take care of your car & your hunger! Try the The Hangover, Brisket, potatoes, cheese, sautéed pico de gallo, chipotle aioli, topped with two over easy eggs. SO GOOD! Even if you dont have a hangover. Featured on Drive ins, Diners, & Dives!
Didnt get to try the bbq but didnt need to even taste it to know this is some of the best bbq your going to get anywhere anytime period.
Delicious food and cool vibe.
Not a bad stop and go. Did not have the muffins I was looking for and the soda was flat/light on syrup but I will say they got through the line fairly quick and the BBQ smelled good but I did not get that.
One of the best gas station BBQ places youll find
Great BBQ anything! Had a breakfast and was very tasty!
Clean super friendly and delicious!!
Great food and very upscale gas station and car wash!
Went there because of DDD episode. Its a cool place. Huge gift shop and restaurant, car wash, truck stop, you name it. Take out or eat on the nice patio. Pet friendly!🐶💕 reason for three stars, THE FOOD! Not impressed. Long wait for just ok taste. I got the breakfast burro. They were out of 🥓 so smoked pulled pork was substituted. My expectation of good smoke flavor was a let down. Could barely taste the smoke and burro was a bit dry. My hubby got the Cuban Sandwich. OMG. SO SMALL for the price and no sides included. Disappointed 😞.
This place has a lot going on. Car wash, with minor body repairs offered. Great BBQ, for carry-out or dine in. Consistently well smoked brisket & great in-house made sauces. An odds and ends kind of novelty shop. Plus, high octane racing fuel in 95 and 100 octane available. It was quite a hunt for 95 octane in North Scottsdale, The Thumb had it covered.
Stopped here after cycling one weekend. Kind of a cool place. A bit pricey, but food was good. We sat outside which was nice, but the hogs and race cars at the petrol station killed the experience for me. I guess The Thumb cant control that. Oh and Dave Matthews Band playing as the music of choice wasnt so good either. Perhaps Im being picky there.
Well we ended up going here twice 😄 had to try breakfast and dinner. BEST BAKED MAC EVER so creamy and cheesy. My hubby devoured his burger, and he is super picky when it comes to burgers. Our kid who rarely eats meat actually ate almost all her sliders, and of course what kid doesnt like mac and cheese. I had the caprese sandwich, and I really wish I wouldve got another one for the ride home😋 we stopped in on our way home this morning for breakfast, and the pan cakes are a MUST! The thumb doesnt disappoint, the store is super cute too with alot of art pieces, and a really cool waiting room for a car wash
Overhyped by Guy Fiery. Fair but not great
I had the 3 little pigs so I could try 3 meats. All 3 were delicious. I love great BBQ. This is a place where Id definitely go back to.My boys had the briskett sandwich. They like it dry and got it that way. Nice chunks of sliced briskett and lean. You can ask for more fat or chopped if you like it that way.
This gas station is awesome! Its a gas station, a store and a place to eat some killer BBQ! This place most always has a line for the food so make sure your not in a hurry but hey its sure worth the wait. Also the guys from Tank on TV built them a pretty cool salt water fish tank that you can eat around.
Pricey but good
Good pulled pork and brisket and sweet potato fries. Locals can skip the souvenir shop.
I’m usually not one to leave a bad review but I’ve tried to pick up a 3 meat platter meal from here after a hike at gateway twice this week and both times the service was terrible. Monday I called in advance and ordered over the phone only to show up and find out my ticket wasn’t entered in the computer 40 minutes later. It was just sitting next to it. Not to mention the place was dead. Friday I showed up to order the same platter and they were out of all their meats except chicken. I’m not sure who’s running this place but I don’t know how you can run a BBQ restaurant and be out of BBQ. This place used to be my favorite place to stop for food after a hike and now I’ll never stop because you just don’t know what to expect even if you order in advance.
We had seen this place on Tanked. And we happened to be driving past on a Sunday family adventure day. You know; real estate looking, rural road running, and yay I have AC, its August, lets take a drive day.The 95 octane race fuel at the pump for $6/gal. was something you dont find close to home, so stop here and load your race tune or timing. The smell when you walk in is amazing. And yes, that gets its own paragraph.Check out the details of the place before you order or sit down. Its not a museum or art gallery. But it is a friendly set up to review the gift shop area, see a little bit of Americana art and watch the saltwater fish in the (guessing) 600gal. aquarium swim around. The environment ia friendly, casual, and not rushed. August is not the busiest time of year around here, so a winter stop will probably be busier. The stop we made involved taking home food, and I spent most of my time next to the aquarium while we waited. Keep your kids from touching the aquarium when they point out all the different fish, and details inside the tank like mine did.I picked up a gift for an upcoming family birthday. Since there are soaps, decorations, aprons, and a lot of other items, you will easily find simething cool too. I actually didnt adventure past the row of drink coolers towards the other end of the shop area, so go see more than I did.We took home cole slaw, mac and cheese, corn bread muffins, texas toast, fries, pork, brisket and chicken. With our to-go order, we had ketchup, house sauce, and some (really) hot sauces.Start with the house sauce. I like spicy, but the ultra hot ones arent going to let your taste buds enjoy the smoked meats. Spill some on your shirt, so you can sniff it later. The perfect smokey fire smell is part of the experience of these meats. The meats we had were well cooked, and no better smell will be found. The cornbreads are very good, but we had them about 2 hours later, so try those when theyre fresher. Same with the fries. You can tell they are well made, but theyre just better when fresh. The mac and cheese has its best part up top; a crispy but not burnt layer; very yummy. The texas toast was well received by my family, and it was a tasty accompaniment to the meats. Our order included a great cardboard carrying box, and all items packed in appropriate containers. We had a good experience here, and well be happy to visit for a while and pick up their smoked meats again. The stars are for a less than ideal response from staff.
Overhyped and overpriced. This little gas station has taken there 15 minutes of fame on Diners Drive-Ins and dives to the extreme.
The thumb is my families favorite BBQ place around Phoenix and Scottsdale! Everyone who works there is amazing and super helpful and the food is to die for
I have always enjoyed this little gem of a place. The sweet rolls or the BBq.
The food was good. I had pulled pork and they pile it on. Coleslaw was good as well. However I asked and paid for the brownie and didnt get it. The next time I will be sure to check my order before I leave.
