My daughters and I were driving to Santa Cruz on 17 today when our car suddenly started making some crazy noises. Larrys was the closest mechanic - I called and they said they would look at it. When we got there the person in the office dropped everything he was doing to test drive the car and do a full assessment. After working on it for 45 minutes he was able to see that whatever had been stuck was dislodged and he determined we were safe to drive. He did not charge me anything for his time and effort! It was a great reminder for me and a good example for my kids that there are good people out there! I am so grateful for his kindness and if I lived closer Id become a regular customer. Thank you!

Very honest and straight forward I feel like they care about doing the right thing and getting your car fixed at minimal cost. Cant ask for better than that. We have had Larrys Auto work on all 3 of our vehicles mostly tune ups and inspections and have always been happy.

Here is a mechanical shop that does great work and also handles smogs I have been.using larrys auto for 8 years or so.been satisfied every time Guy the owner is a very honest person.iv sent friends there and I told a few friends more than one fuel filter was bad up hill was not guess what they called me said u were right guy put on a new filter cured the problem give them a try u will like ur experience

This shop does not seem to understand the cars they smog or the CARB laws for that matter. Was refused for smog under the argument that my vehicle never came from the factory with a turbo, which it did. I showed him the sticker on the hood but that wasnt enough. The tech did not bother to check any references to verify and just plainly refused to test the car any further. Went to another smog shop down the street and the car passed with no issues. They made the comment that my previous smog tech didnt seem to have much of an idea of what hes doing. I agree and Ill be shooting a quick complaint over to BAR.At least he was courteous enough that he allowed me to leave without paying the test fee. One extra star kept because of that.All in all, look elsewhere for your smog needs if your vehicle is uncommon or not one that they deal with on a regular basis.

UPDATE Oct 26, 2020 The review below applies to the former owner who recently passed away. The business has finally reopened under new ownership, so the observations below may or may not apply. I found alternatives and wont be going back to this shop however.Great for smog tests, but the deeper services are very uneven in quality. Ive done most of my own car work forever but turn over the heavier jobs to pros. Larrys is where Ive gone for smogs on my two cars, so I went there twice for heavier services with poor results. The pan gasket on my Acura began leaking so I had them replace it. When I drove the car home, there was smoke everywhere. I was afraid to put it in the garage. Turns out theyd done the job right but never cleaned up afterwards so there was oil everywhere under and near the engine - likely a fire hazard. So I crawled under with an old towel and wiped up the mess then called them to complain. Shortly thereafter I heard a clattering noise when I went in reverse. They had installed a cross member incorrectly underneath. They fixed that when I came back. So thats two problems on one job. Second more recent problem is that there was a growing bearing noise under the hood on my Toyota Corolla. This time I went to a different mechanic after the Acura pan experience with Larrys. The timing belt had been replaced by Larrys 13,000 miles earlier, and they had installed a cheap Chinese knockoff water pump whose bearing was failing, plus it was starting to leak. Larrys had charged me $75.38 for a water pump part number available now on Amazon Prime for $13.73. Even has a lifetime guarantee! It was expensive to replace (extra $550) since the timing belt cover had to be removed. But at least the job was finally done right. I complained to Guy, and he just thanked me for the feedback. Most of the positive reviews are for Larrys convenient smog certificate service. Thats fine, but if you need repairs, go somewhere else. When I later changed the oil on my Acura, I discovered that they had used an undersized Mighty Max m4612 oil filter. It worked but is much smaller than the factory recommended filter. They also had put the oil drain bolt on way too tight. I cant even recommend Larrys for basics such as an oil change. Go somewhere else.

My friends and i have been using Larrys for years and I have never had any problems with the service. Dont be put off by his demeanor because they are honest and thats hard to find these days.

It was okay. Been there about 4 or 5 times for SMOG. Got the job done but one worker has broken english and the one with glasses had an attitude with a customer. Might have been isolated incident, but he seems like a grump.
