Not my favorite location. Very small, poor assortment of equipment, and not enough weights in the leg area downstairs (but theres tons of weights upstairs, makes no sense). If someone else is squatting or doing leg press dont even bother trying.I will say the staff is very friendly, especially the manager Wendel, great guy!The facility itself is clean, but there are so many better locations Ive been to.
I was asked to provide a doctors note to cancel a gym membership… AFTER I was told that they are being “very flexible”with their cancellation policy in order to get me to sign up. Beware of the low life sales people at this sub par gym.
Love group fitness classes with worlds best instructors. The equipment selection is not the most convenient (past covid changes), so I try to avoid it for free weights workouts, but group classes compensate for that.
It’s nice and clean. Make sure you book a spot in the app, it’s easy. The staff is really friendly and everyone here is courteous
Much improvement needed post Covid and training to staff i feel
Clean and easy! Plenty of room to work out and was spotless
Highlight is 2x outdoor sections (with a view of the beach). Of course it’s crowded, so is every gym during rush hours. Of course it’s expense, you’re paying more to you can tell your friends you went to equinox (I’m not, I’m paying more because it’s the only gym in nyc/la/sf). Of course only people who have negative things to say about the staff post, that’s what those type of people do. In my experience it’s everyone has been helpful and courteous.
Not sure what to make of this equinox. The equipment is a bit older than most other equinoxes, but also they have everything you need including outdoor rowing machines. Staff is pretty hit and miss. Sales office definitely much worse than other locations. Earth bar always hit and miss and closes much earlier than they should often times. Definitely not among the best of the LA equinoxes
Worn out and worn down. Not worth the membership dues. For being in Santa Monica expected much better. Staff not very helpful and more concerned with chatting with other staff. Hope they take this time to retrain and revamp the place
I enjoy the classes and the equipment is nice but classes fill up fast. I still think its pricey but there is no riffraff either, which is nice.
One of my favorite Equinoxs. Super nice to have outside space to push the sled, great location, and Yo Abecassis is a delight to work with. Group fitness classes are fun, hard, and plentiful.
The front desk people are so rude...with an attitude. Not very wellcomoing at all...The best are the classes. Love them. But Equinox is overrated.yes, I can get cool towels and ...? A Spa.I rather workout @24h for 40 usd / month .Sorry...
I joined in November 2012 and Im really happy with the gym. The towels, facilities... and all the stuff you read in other reviews.I would have just a couple suggestions. As an avid cyclist Id like to see more cycle classes on the schedule. My other wish is that the cycle instructors would lay out what the class will be like. Is it a climbing ride, sprints, race day, combination of all? And when are recoveries? For people training for something, this would help with regard to pacing. Not a big deal but would be nice to know the plan. The staff is all nice and accommodating. Also I am very disappointed that there is no pool ;)
This place is down the street from the pier of Santa Monica. Right after my great workout we went to the beach. I love it I love it love. The price is high and I cant afford it yet but I know I will someday soon. Or if they could work out a deal with me. Id take it
Lol. I wanted to get a membership deal for a celebrity artist I am managing and the front desk guy told me that I cant speak to a rep :s and that all their prices are set. This was weird and confusing so I left and will most likely never step foot or send any of my clients there again. Epic fail. Fire the dude.
Came to this gym on a free 2-day trial and was really impressed by the cleanliness and the condition of the equipment. Like, spotless. It was weird but in a good way. The staff was very friendly and they have trainers that just float around on the gym floors to answer questions about equipment/workouts, help with form, etc. Really helpful. Tons of spin, yoga, running and HIIT classes offered everyday if you’re into those. My only complaint is that the weights and machines are split between two floors. That’d be really helpful if both areas had the same equipment. Instead I found myself repeatedly going up and down the stairs in search of the right equipment. Minor complaint that I’m sure I would work around once I was familiar enough with the layout.Overall a nice gym with nice equipment and if you have the cash to spend.
Been an Equinox member for 10+ years and not quitting anytime soon. The SM location is as nice as the others with an ocean view exercise patio too. Probably why this is one of their most crowded locations. Im a morning person so its pretty manageable earlier than after work. All the instructors are awesome and will get you through the tough classes with a smile on your face.
Layout is choppy and on multiple floors. Youll walk around in circles and up and down stairs to get a workout done.. and you only get 2 hours of parking to workout, use the amenities to freshen up....annndd all that travel time between sets. Bathrooms have a tight layout and will feel crowded. You WILL NOT find parking in the garage during peak times. Only 1 leg press.
This is my gym. I also go to other Equinox locations, depending on the day. High-end equipment, friendly staff, and a VIP feel. The teachers are fitness innovators. Worth the money.
Really like the fact that there are no poor people here. Funny all the pathetics who cry about the service, well don’t come if you donn’t like it.
The sales rep wanted over $200 per month for this location. What a joke. She called this a Summer Blow Out deal. Ill give you a Blow Out.
Expensive place but worth the price of admission. Would like to see them with friendly staff though. Bathrooms are squeaky clean
Horrible service at reception desk, arrogant and far away from customer centricity. The other way around what one expect at high end gym. Really sad for such a high invested gym.
Great gym. Just take forever to fix any issue with their equipment
Ive been a member of Equinox for 2 years, but in the last year I was traveling so much and it made so hard for me to go to the gym. I tried canceling my membership multiple times, but every time I called they said I had to go in person to cancel. With 2 businesses and so much traveling; how am I supposed to do that?In the second year, I made it to the gym about 4 times and before 9am when there is no one to help you with the cancelation.Im finally more relaxed and have a bit more time to take care of my personal things. I came to the gym where I started my membership and Chris, a representative who has no clue whatsoever about customer service and of course, was not able to help me. This is a waste of my time and money.
The employee are really rude even the manager! Worst! I will never forget his name alex alejanro!
I joined the Equinox club on Santa Monica Blvd a few week ago and am absolutely blown away by this place! It’s an impeccably clean facility with top notch trainers and every piece of fitness equipment you can imagine. My personal favorite part is the wide variety of great group fitness options which make it a one stop shop for all things fitness: they offer everything from barre/yoga to spin/precision running and a huge variety of strength training as well as myofascial release techniques (think self massage) classes which are great for injury recovery and prevention. The group fitness instructors at equinox are clearly well trained and kept up to date with the latest and greatest fitness trends - rather than focusing on their own workouts during your class they walk around the room offering modifications, progressions and encouragement to ensure that members get the most out of OUR workouts.I’m a lifelong workout enthusiast who loves all things fitness and have been to countless health clubs throughout the country - Equinox is truly in a league of its own 💪🏻🙌🏻
I used to visit the Equinox in WeHo & switched to the one in Santa Monica. Nice & day difference. The Santa Monica is still nice, but a bit disappointing & not as upscale as what Ive seen in other locations.
Really nice gym in a good location. Split up a little in layout but they did the best they could with the space they had.
Great gym, I live close by and it meets my standards n cleanliness and quality
The gym is nice, but the upper-level management is dishonest and unprofessional. After cancelling my membership, Equinox continued to withdraw monthly dues from my bank account without my authorization. After alerting the upper-level management to the problem, I expected that they would immediately refund the money because of their mistake. Not only did they fail to reimburse the wrongfully withdrawn funds, but they continued to attempt to make withdrawals from my bank account. I have had to file a lawsuit because of this fiasco. Avoid the inconvenience and the hassle and go to another gym; I am sure you can find a better, more reputable, gym in the area.
CATHERINE URBANEK is beyond RUDE, Unprofessional, and extremely entitled and unpleasant to be around. She speaks down to people as if she is better than them. A typical non-working wannabe wactress thats upset with life.
Spotless gym, properly maintained friendly staff and always people in shape. But expensive though ...
Had a horrifying experience. We visited the location on 201 Santa Monica Blvd to have a quick tour to see the amenities. The guy at the reception was very hospitable. He introduced us to a staff member (her name was Vivian if we heard correctly). Instead of giving us a tour she started asking us plenty of personal questions like where we live, where we used to live, why we moved, where we work, do we live together or not and much more. We explicitly told that we are not confortable with such personal questions, but our voice was ignored. Then she was kind of pushing us to sign us for membership without showing us the gym, we insisted to see it and she pushed us to leave our contact details - we also dont understand whats this for. Finally instead of having a 10 min tour as we wanted, we spent more than half-hour answering very personal questions (for example Id like to understand how the above mentioned questions are connected to gym membership) and only 5 mins observing the gym. And obviously we decided not to go for membership.Time-wasting. Frustrating. Offensive.
Trainer James is awesome!
You can get validated parking. Great place to work out and it is nearby to so many places in Santa Monica.
Great place for a workout and lots of hot girls to chat. Hehe.
Nice yoga studio with plenty of natural light
Clean, quality and overall great gym
The women who I met with refused me a tour and instead on starting my membership process. The gym is lame and the red hair staff looked at me with disgust. All i wanted was a membership and to ask where the bathroom was at ??
This is clearly one of the best health clubs in LA...that said..its ridiculous. $200 + for a gym membership and rising every year....people need to find better ways to use their money. Perhaps run outside at the beach that is LITERALLY 2 blocks away, do some pull ups at the beach, pay me $100/mo to help you stay focused, get a blanket then go to the grass on the beach bluff to do some yoga, or ride your bike along the ocean. It barely rains in Los Angeles and the weather is some of the best weather in the world for doing things outside. If you still need a gym, 24 hour fitness is just down the street. Then take that $180/mo you have left over and buy a meal for a kid in the foster care program of los angeles. There isnt even a basketball gym at this gym. They offer a wide variety of dance/yoga/pilates classes here..so if you are using those EVERYDAY then its worth it...but if you are paying $200+ for a gym and not taking a class everyday youre doing something wrong. That said...this place is packed so I probably dont know what Im talking about.
Good place
The gym trainer kicked me off a machine so that a paying client could workout, people working here treat you very poorly
Just really solid gym.
The gym is ass. The girl with red hair who works at the protein shop kept laughing every time I asked a question and I was given a disgusting look by her. The Mexican women who gave me a tour told me this gym is white power. What does that even mean, Im white.
Front desk has no understanding of customer service or how to just try an be friendly and helpful
Very rude employees and i got shouted at for asking for a smoothie at the protein bar. Would never recommend this gym to anyone.
Great club with friendly staff
Great place
Okay, not great compared to other Equinoxes. Too many floors.
Car break ins! DONT PARK HERE IF YOU COME.
Looking forward to go to this gym
Very impolite staff!
The word is roadkill
Not bad
Equinox is particularly the least liked me in distribution. I prefer other locations
