I wasnt sure what to expect when renting bikes in Santa Monica. I thought I might end up with a place that had sort of a casual approach, might be hard to find or not a real storefront or uncertain hours, just due to the whole laidback vibe in this area. But I was pleasantly surprised. The Bike Center was completely professional in every way. We were running late to pick up the bikes, and I called to let them know - they picked up right away and said that was no problem. When we got down there, I realized they have an amazing location - easy to find and super close to the beach. Both staff members we interacted with were very friendly. Our bikes were ready to go. The included helmets were in great shape. The included bike locks were easy to use. The bikes seemed to run perfectly and looked in brand new condition. They were also very comfortable (we got the comfort bikes. Staff helped us adjust the seats to just the right levels, and made sure we knew how to get where we were going. Returning the bikes was equally easy. I usually dont write reviews but I thought this place was above and beyond.

Had small brake cable issue- Ron took care of it in 30 seconds-no charge-explained another issue I had and he diagnosed a chain issue (chain was 20 years old) and replaced right it away for $20.00.This IS the BEST place for any repair and to be treated fairly.

Great price and friendly staff. We did the aHalf day hire of the comfort bikes and found it the perfect amount of time to ride along Venice beach and see all the shops. The guys working there were super friendly and offer a very competitive price. Definitely recommend them

FAST & AFFORDABLE bike repair! These guys are awesome! I had flat tire on my bike, so I stopped by to get it checked out. They literally changed the whole thing in less than 8 minutes, and even oiled it up for me. I highly recommend!!

I rented a nice, clean bike last Sunday. It was easy to make a reservation and pick up was easy as well. The bike was cleaned before/after I rode it. They even tell you the different prices if you keep the bike longer than you reserved it for. Ill be back.

The guy in the repair shop was friendly, competent, and helpful. You can tell he likes his job. You can tell he is the kind of person who likes to help because he is plain and simple a decent human being. The shop in general has a community vibe to it. Very nice business.

Comfortable bikes and friendly service

I had a crazy long layover at LAX (16 hrs) and had 2 suitcases. These guys are awesome, rented a bike for the day and they stores my luggage. Great deal, they helped me with some routes so I could see LA. 65 km later, I was all smiles. Good value and very efficient. Highly recommended.

Used The Bike Center for luggage storage during a day trip to Santa Monica before heading to the airport for a red eye. They were pleasant, organized, quick and secured our suitcases for $10 a piece in a place where I felt comfortable leaving them. Couldnt have asked for more to make our day in Santa Monica the best it could be... Without having to drag suitcases around.We didnt have time to rent bikes on this visit, but if thats what youre looking for they had a great selection... Including some really cool options for parents with young children.

This review is for the downtown Union Station location. I parked my bike here for two hours after exiting my Amtrak train so I could go to an appointment in Bell Gardens. I was gone for 2 hours and 15 minutes, but even though they usually charge a dollar an hour after 2 hours, the friendly staff member did not charge me. I was able to leave my helmet with my bike. Safe place to park the bike as it is supervised.

I was surprised to read reviews saying the staff was rude because the two men we interacted with were incredibly friendly and helpful. Even though they were super busy, we didnt feel rushed or ignored at all. We had a big party, rented 6 beach cruisers, a tandem, and one of the Urban Arrow bikes because one of the people in our party had two injured arms. We had a blast and I was very happy with the service. I would happily go back next time I need to rent bikes in Santa Monica.

Very great service and quality bikes. Came here on a Sunday as recommended by a friend. $25 for four hours. They are a little more than the beach side stores but you definitely get what you paid for. Highly recommended.

Had an early check out and a late departure and needed somewhere to store my luggage with my remaining hours in town. This place was amazing for that, great and friendly staff. I would definitely recommend them!

Staffed by dedicated, experienced cycling enthusiasts who give excellent tips and assistance. The experts in the great well-stocked repair shop get you up and running or back on the road fast if you run into mechanical trouble. The open air facility is chock-full of great features, such as free air for your tires. The bike valet -- free for the first two hours and only $1 per hour thereafter -- let me drop my bike off in safe custody while I rode the Expo downtown and back.

The showers and bathrooms are infested with drain flies, poorly ventilated and stuffy, have weak water pressure, and arent properly cleaned. The towels have weird stains too.

If you need a mountain bike DEFINITELY hit up Santa Monica Bike Center – their gear is tuned and top notch. Dalton (who was awesome) hooked me up with everything I needed, recommended some great trails, and had me geared up and out of there in less than 10 minutes.

We went in today with my family to rent some bikes and have a good time, unfortunately the guy prepping the bikes was super rude and kept shouting at my wife and kids to move! There are plenty of bike shops around, much more friendlier, helpful and with more options! Wouldnt recommend this place at all!

THERE IS A CHEAPER BIKE RENTAL PLACE ON 4TH STREET. Look it up! I came here to fix a flat tire which cost $36 to replacement tubes on each. Pricey and service wasnt great. Their main customer is tourist so service encouraging repeat business is not priority.

Because this place has a 4.0 review and was right off the Metro Station, we decided to rent bikes from there during our visit to the Santa Monica Pier. That was a big mistake though. The people helping us were rude and their customer service was little to non-existent.We had looked online beforehand and knew exactly which bikes we wanted to rent and for how long. As soon as we got there we let the guy know. We had to put $1000 deposit down, and that wasnt a problem... except our credit cards kept declining. It was probably our fault since we went on a trip without notifying the credit card company, I dont blame the shop for that. But by the time I handed the cashier our 4th credit card, he snarked at me and rolled his eyes. That was extremely impolite and uncalled for, it almost made me feel like I was a nuisance because I didnt have money for a deposit.Finally the deposit was dealt with and we got the bikes. But then they tell us that the seats for the bikes cant be adjusted... Im not sure if it was the look I shot at him or just the look on my face in general, but they ended up getting a different bike for me that could be adjusted. So we got one adjustable bike and one non-adjustable bike. The bikes were great, they made going uphill extremely easy on the way back and it was very user friendly.So we get back to the shop to return the bikes and there were 3 attendants at the cashier. One of them walks away from the counter and motions us to bring the bikes in. After leaving the bikes with him we head over to the cashier to pay for the time. I didnt take the session off the deposit since I didnt want to pay an extra percentage for foreign exchange rates so I told him that we would pay for it in cash. He gave us the total and my partner hands him a bill while I rummage for change in my wallet. I hand over the change and the cashier says, Oh, its too late I already entered the amount. and hands me back more change.Overall, I thought their customer service really needed to be worked on especially for a place that caters so much to tourist. But the equipment they had was good and the location is good. If you would like to be treated like trash, I would recommend this place. If you do care how other treat you, please just go somewhere else.

Its very rare for me to rate 1 star but this place totally deserves it because of an extremely rude staff on a power trip. There were 2 guys at the shop on a late Monday afternoon. The younger, slimer guy was polite but unfortunately I also had to deal with the other older guy ( facial hair/cap) with disrespectful attitude and anger management problems. Completely rude which makes my experience unpleasant. Bikes were mediocre too - felt wobbly and loose. I returned the bike on time but beware, they will charge you for 1 hr more even if youre 1min late. STAY AWAY.

Great service, rental value, use of small lockers and bathrooms for customers. I rented the kids rear atachment for my 9 year old and he had a blast riding along the path.

Had a great experience using SMBC. They had a very knowledgeable staff and great facilities. I rented for half a day and the bike I used worked well but was not particularly clean. The facilities were very clean (showers, lockers, etc). Would use them again for sure!

A satisfactory place to rent bikes from, and they offer member services such as 24 hour card-access indoor shower, bathroom, and bike stalls.

I took my bike to the shop so the mechanic could make it a general adjustment, they were supposed to call me after a couple of hours to tell me what they need it to do in order to fix the bike and tell me how much $ so I can approve the budget and they can start working on it... that never happened. I waited for 2 day and they never called back. Every time I tried to reach them they had an excuse (they were really busy, the mechanic guy wasnt there at that moment etc...)I went to pick up my bike after 2 days of knowing nothing about them, and as soon as I got there they wanted to charged me 45 usd for NOTHING, because they hadnt even touch the bike!!!The worst service, I would never recommend it (at least for the repairing part)

Friendly service, good selection of bikes, and convenient location on the bottom floor of the parking structure. Location is near the SM pier, Tongva Park, and Palisades Park. ATM kiosk there and lots of free visitor maps/pamphlets for tourists.

Terrible customer service. We had a flat tire on our ride. Were 40 minutes late on our 2 hour bike ride (fixing the tire) and Santa Monica bike centre proceeded to charge us an extra $30 for being late...after we had to pay another store on Venice beach $20 to fix the tire. Boo!!

The staff here forced my friend from the foreign country to buy the used (or perhaps sample) sunscreen in the store while mocking her English vocabulary by saying “burrowing” the sunscreen means “buying.” Very rude and fraudulent!

I was supposed to be an hour and a half before 6 pm,I was asked to keep it for $ 5.Thank you for your kindness (# ^. ^ #)Im really thankful to you!I loved Santa Monica because I was able to see a wonderful sunset and was helped by a wonderful person.

I am a high school English level, but he explained carefully until the staff understood. (I need to pay a compensation fee that will be refunded when I return my bicycle, but I checked it many times.)The price is not cheap, but you can get a map that shows which road to get to the bike lane along the beach, and its also very kind when you contact later, `` I may have left something in my basket He / she responded and was saved.

My experience is a bit mixed. Were at this bike rental because we were looking for a child seat for our 1 year old daughter. They have good Dutch bikes from Gazelle, nice. And child seats from Yepp, top!However, the staff was not really friendly. The boy who helped us came across quite stressed, while it was not super busy. Without any explanation, I got a form under my nose that I had to sign and he asked for my credit card. Then he started to help other customers. I have waited neatly until his colleague pointed out that he first had to help us before continuing with other customers. With rolling eyes he explained what the waiver meant and how it is with the deposit on your credit card. Another colleague picked up a bicycle with a rear seat, while I had indicated that I wanted a seat in front. I stood firm and with some reluctance installed the child seat, we were allowed to take a helmet ourselves for our daughter and we were gone. Still weird, without any explanation about the traffic rules or the locks, etc ..The prices are also on the high side. For the rental of two bicycles, one with child seat, we were $ 75, - lost for 4 hours.Cycling along the boulevard towards Venice and back was of course crazy. Really a must!

Although it is a rental cycle shop, please be careful if you can not speak English. The staff is good with only oral explanations, but I can not hear the explanations quickly and think that the price is high. Some stores offer the time and amount to the storefront.
