Im living at Ferguson Place which is one of the rehabs Baker Places operates. I gave it 2 stars because the staff here say they want to help you, but when you ask for help, they dont! They come up with excuses not to help you.And the director has threatened to kick me out of the house 3 times. I dont feel safe living here because of that and because of the hypocrisy that goes on here. About 3 other clients living here feel the same way, so I know it’s not just me.The assistant director enjoys saying, Let me know if you need help. I asked her to help me with an issue; she made 1 phone and told me the lady didnt call her back. She didnt take any more action to help me at all. One of the counselors here told me that he would help me find a place to live by giving me a list of housing opportunities here in San Francisco. He told me that 1 1/2 months ago and he still hasnt given me anything, and Ive reminded him several times. My counselor is supposed to meet with me for 1 hour every week and he doesnt. Hes always too busy to talk to me and hes been out sick for most of the last 30 days. This place isnt what they claim to be, so be careful if youre thinking about coming here and be prepared to do everything for yourself. And you’ll have to cook for yourself too and once every 2 weeks you’ll have to cook for the whole house.Almost all of the clients here have had to find their own housing and do everything on their own.

I have been through medical detox, Residential rehab (Acceptance Place) and an SLE through Baker. They are truly incompetent and not fit to serve this underfunded, neglected field. In Baker programs I was subjected to multiple death threats, bed bugs, faulty refrigerators, an emergency line that took hours to respond to, countless police reports, theft and more. Moreover they overbilled the city.I have filed a personal small claims lawsuit against Baker. I, and others, are considering class action as well.

One the best programs i have ever been to with one of the most amazing counselors Ive ever had to work with. The program works well as long as the client does what is asked of them and remains appropriate during their stay at baker places. I never wanted to leave tbh it was like Olive Gardens slogan when youre here youre family and thats what it was like its like a close knit family and its difficult to leave after only 90 days theres group bonding where everyone gets to know each other and it gives individuals a chance to develop a relationship with their peers. Theres daily chores to help clients prepare for co/op (assisted independent living) a 2 year step down program designed to help people get back on their feet and gain some traction and stability in their lives. At the baker place i went to they were very caring and very tolerant to clients needs and mental health issues. Overall it was a very splendid experience in a very turbulent time for me. Needless to say Im very grateful and highly inclined to recommend to my friends and family

One star is waaaay too generous. Corrupt, rife with fraud, graft and HIPAA violations, they play fast and loose with confidentiality and their clients lives. They bill the govt and medicare/insurance for a non-existent program on their clients (tenants is more appropriate) unknowing heads. Mold, bedbugs, general negligence, a grossly unqualified and even abusive staff, and, in the last six months a new Voldemort type came on board as director, willfully disregarding all entry contracts and manipulating clients out of the program by any means necessary, despite their 100% false claim that Baker never creates homelessness. SF DPH is complicit in the financial corruption and Au Revoir (Good Riddance!?), Barbara Garcia! But dont rest too easy or put your feet up, as very soon Baker will be brought to task and made accountable and there are many questions that will soon need answered. And such a shame that the otherwise stellar PRC was somehow saddled with this dysfunctional organization long overdue to be shuttered or at the very least, gutted. Check out one ex-clients blog, defundbakerplaces.org, and keep an eye on the media if you like watching karmic backlash play out in a public forum in an election year...
