Top rope routes are very creative with interesting beta, theres a high concentration of 5.10a to 5.11d routes in this gym, so as an intermediate youll never get bored. They have lots of hard routes too, but not a lot of dedicated lead routes. There are several cracks, one of which is actually adjustable. Bouldering is good, but the beginner routes start are harder than other gyms. Santa Clara has more beginner options, while this gym has a wide and even range of problems. Overall the routesetters at this gym are A+ on quality. They have nearly every training board that exists, the bluetooth bouldering wall, full weight training gym with treadmills and everything. Facilities are fantastic as this is an old factory building on the edge of Crissy Field, and from the walls you can literally look out at the bay and the SF skyline. They had the windows open and there was a gentle sea breeze coming in along with tons of natural light. This gym well exceeded all expectations, A+ 10/10 bravo folks.

I started climbing 45 days ago after a 2 weeks trial period. The first step was to take a belay class (free), then the belay test (free too) and then I was able to come either by myself (some people that are also coming by themselves, can partner up and belay with you), or with my partner to top rope or boulder. I feel that the quality and diversity of the routes make it possible and enjoyable to come every day.The place is rarely packed but I recommend to get there before 8AM or after 7PM.They use gri-gri instead of belay devices (compared to Touchstone) so it feels very safe. Some really good climbers come here so you can watch, learn from them and progress.Staff is great, and very helpful.

I love the facility. The builders make amazing routes and the equipment itself is awesome. The biggest problem at this place is the maintenance. There are never any clean towels or soap in the bathrooms. On the weight and climbing floor the paper towels are always out and theres no way to clean equipment after use. This place could easily be a 5 start gym but come on guys. Please just restock.

Super fun wall, no fuss belay certification process, and an excellent bouldering area. Also there’s a gym? why, I don’t know, but i guess you can come here to work out off the wall if that’s your thing. You could probably find a better less expensive gym for pump metal, but as far as the wall goes, it’s a world class choice, at reasonable prices.

Who needs Tinder when you can just go to Planet Granite? Its not a total meat market, but it is a great place to meet other like minded people. The front desk is great about finding you a belaying partner if youre climbing solo. The culture and community rock! Located on the water next to the Golden Gate bridge you get some pretty fantastic views of Alcatraz and the bay when climbing. Gym is in an old airplane hanger leftover from back when the SF airport was on the Marina Greens. On warm days they open up the hanger doors so you can smell the sea water and feel the breeze. The problems are creative and well organized. They usually match the stones to be the same color for a problem vs. other rock climbing gyms mixing up the color combos and notating with the same colored tape. Drop in rates are a little expensive (~$22 more with gear rentals) If you live in SF consider a monthly membership. The monthly member prices are about as cheap as it gets when it comes to gym memberships for this part of town.

My children enjoyed their first try at climbing. The restrooms had showers and were spacious, as well as clean. The price was reasonable enough, if I remember right it was $6 for shoes and harness. You have to sign a waiver and watch a video orientation on safety. Most of the climbers we saw were experienced, but there were groups of children who were assisted by staff members. Who by the way, were extremely helpful, polite and welcoming.

Great gym and what a view! I dont get up to the PG SF as much as I should with traffic in the bay but thats not the gyms fault and I really should head there more.Theyve got some great routes and lots of high walls, a large bouldering area and a decent fitness space with cardio spread all over. Throw in having a shower in the city, steps from a view of the bridge (Ive watched the blue angels zip by mid route years back) and how could you go wrong. When the window / doors get opened up and the breeze comes in, perfect.Parking can be a bit of a pain, its not cheap and the place is not near a whole lot else for a snack or driving around but thats the price you pay for a solid gym in such a great spot.

PG is the Four Seasons/ Ritz Carlton of climbing gyms. Ive tried to go to other gyms to keep up my skills when Ive been out of town, but nothing compares. Routes are changed every 6 weeks (sectioned off across the gym, so theyre always evolving), holes are always clean, staff is knowledgeable and safety is a top priority. They also offer great yoga and fitness classes. Plus, it doesnt hurt that you get to experience Crissy Field every time you climb!

The user experience is too bad in planet granite, compared to touchstone. The pad for signing waiver cannot work. It wasted about 30 minutes to sign it! The most important thing is they are totally not friendly! They only think about making money! You cannot teach others climbing and belaying here, while you can teach others in Touchstone. You cannot say they do this for safety because the belay test is simple and cannot cover all things. They only want to enforce new climbers paying for belay learning session! Touchstone is much better than them. You can teach others in the gym but the belay test is very hard. They require you to take tests more than one time to make sure you know all about belay. And require a lot of additional safety checks and actions. Moreover, different prices of passes and membership for different positions in PG! I want to remind you, please buy monthly membership in SF or Belmont instead of Sunnyvale! The membership is $120 higher per year in Sunnyvale than in other places! Also other passes! But the 10 visit pass only can be used in the gym you buy this pass! Overall, they only want to make money! Never care about customers! Please do not come to here!

I have been climbing for roughly one year now and have been to my fair share of larger gyms...Gravity Vault in New Jersey, some Touchstone Climbing Gyms in the Bay Area, and gyms in Cleveland and Pittsburgh...This gym is far and away the best one I have been to hands down. The location is incredible, the staff is wonderful, the prices are great for what you get (a full gym, tons of fitness equipment, yoga and fitness classes), and the people who go are awesome and friendly. Its not a stuffy gym like many, its just a beautiful open space and my god I want to go there all the time. It has everything I want fitness and climbing related and I want to recommend this to everyone!Touchstone gyms are nice too, but I gotta say PG ekes out ahead of Touchstone by a fair amount, mainly because of the people :)

I recently became a member of PG for the climbing and yoga classes. The routes are numerous and well set (although the ratings are a little sandbagged, theyre at least consistent). Even when the place is busy, there seems to be a lot of options of climbing routes without the need to wait long. The yoga classes are top notch with classes offered at great times in 2 beautiful, clean studios. There are different types of classes to meet all students needs, but they definitely have a community of teachers and students that doesnt shy away from a challenge.Staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgable and I highly recommend this gym as a place to climb, do yoga or lift weights. This is the cream of the crop when it comes to rock climbing gyms. There are enough top roping/lead climbing routes that even during peak times, there isnt ever much of a wait. After spending years here every other gym seems like a dark stagnate cave (Im looking at you Spot, get some fans). The HUGE windows and roll up doors give PGSF constant air circulation, and the best views of any climbing gym in the world. The setters are top notch, many of them setting at a World Cup level and putting up V14s outside.Yoga classes rival any yoga studio in the city, but you dont have to pay extra. Weights and cardio area as well stay WAY cleaner than almost every other climbing gym Ive been to.

I love this place. Ive been coming here since they opened in SF, and Ive been a frequent visitor of the Sunnyvale and Belmont locations, prior to that. Needless to say that I was actually pleasantly surprised when they opened PGSF. The layout and the clean, full gym setup with yoga classes and saunas is a real poke in the eye to competing rock gyms, which always seem too packed, sweaty and stinky. Its a great, old warehouse-style building (which was once a motor pool, I think). The roof was raised for longer top rope routes (50+ ft?), and the wall overlooking Crissy field is all windows, which makes for awesome scenery while climbing--especially, when the full moon rises over the City. There are some great route setters that are regularly changing all the problems on the tall walls and the extensive bouldering area. The workout area is really nice, with solid equipment, weights and gym bars that are useful for workouts geared to climbing. The yoga and core workout classes are some of the best Ive had. Great people and a great facility. The only thing that I can consider a gripe, is that my favorite gym is becoming too crowded.

I started at PG in Belmont almost 10 years ago, and was really excited for PG to open up in the city. The location offers beautiful views of the bay, Chrissy Fields and Alcatraz. There are huge roll-up doors so on sunny days it provides you with a feeling of almost being outdoors. There are lots of walls and options, but sometimes it seems like route difficulty can be inconsistent. If you go often enough you learn the initials of the staff and can see a pattern of how they set the routes. I wish there were more middle of the road climbs. I was there last and it seemed like there were a lot of 5.11-5.12 but not many 5.10s. I dont go as often as Id like so it takes a while to work back up to the 5.11 stage.
