I love this gym! I always feel like Im in a place that could be four hundred a month, but is too humble to know ...
This facility has very limited hours. Hope they can expand to afternoon hours instead of just mornings. The hours really suck sometime because a lot of people are simply just busy in the morning.
Not enough swim lessons. Pools crowded. Great overall facility. Best to go early or late.
Fully opened 5d/week. Pool, great machines, starting classes for fitness.
I have been a member at the Embarcadero Y for a very long time. The location is great, right across from my home, and the proximity to the financial district and the Embarcadero is perfect. I am moving out of the Bay Area, so l will miss working out here. I highly recommend the Embarcadero Y. The staff is very helpful, and the equipments are up-to-date.
Love coming to this place with my students back in the day. The place is still great. You can buy a day pass for $20 and that gives you access of the entire building for the day. You can also access their classes and they have a pretty extensive schedule. Just for the classes itself, its well worth the $20 you have to pay to get in. They have a row of treadmills that look directly out into the water and the Bay Bridge. Hows that for inspiration to work out?
Safety precautions wonderful fantastic staff
Best Gym Ever. 💎
Great place to workout.
This is the best gym in the city for me. I am a handicapped senior in a wheel chair on a fixed income. Im telling you this place is the best its beautiful. I cant wait to get back in the pool there when all of this horrible stuff is over talking about the virus of course. The staff there is very compassionate.
Terribly limited hours that make it impossible to visit
Good place
Had a wonderful experience there, the place saved me. Had an evening flight and needed a shower - was offered to join 3 day trail and i enjoyed sauna, hot shower and towel, parking was close and easy. Would go to swim at the nice indoor pool if i had time. these people are real lifesavers
If you can get past the smell of rotting organic material by the front door, youll have a good time.Seriously, what the hell is the smell along this street? It makes you want to vomit. I get that the YMCA cant do anything about the smell, or maybe they can, but it makes this location less than ideal.Anyway, on to the stuff you care about - the gym was recently (2018) refinished and they have the layout in a lot better situation. I like it a lot and as of Jan 2019 its not too overcrowded. They have a lot of machines available and they expanded their free weights. The pool is nice - it on the second floor literally above a Japanese restaurant. Its on the small side, I think 5 or 6 lanes total. Youll feel the hot dense chlorinated air as you walk upstairs to the changing rooms. Ventilation could be a bit better.Staff are nice and its a great place to get a membership.
👍
Great gym to go to with amazing staff. Friendly environment. Pool is great. Excellent place to work out in the morning.
I have been a member her for a year and I love it. The view of the bay from the treadmill is unparallel. The pricing is quite competitive and the staff is the best of any gym I have ever seen. Thanks for making it a great place everyday
This gym is great. Very cheap for a membership here! All the equipment is brand new and is always kept very clean!!! Staff is very friendly also. Would definitely recommend to anyone! Its a great deal.
I used to belong to this, Y for a couple years. Best view from a tread mill youll find. Nice facilities, conveniently downtown.
Super super super!!! I was visiting SF from the East Coast for a few weeks and decided to try this Y out since I am in the National System. Let me tell you this place is fantastic. Front desk and all instructors and students were all very welcoming. I wish I could continue here but I will definitely return when I am back in SF. Thank you everyone - see you again..
I took a number of Adult Swimming Lessons here levels 2-3. The instructors are great and really helped me get back on track to a decent standard of swimming. After the lessons I signed up to become a member. Definitely recommend the facilities here. Im considering cancelling my 24 Hour Fitness membership as the Y has considerably better facilities than all the local 24 Hour Fitness locations.
Great Y. Staff is always so friendly. Real good community feel. Wonderful swim team for kids. A real great place for any age.
This is the best YMCA Ive been to, puts others to shame. They have the best mens locker room with wide wooden lockers, very friendly and helpful staff and the location just cant be beat, right on the embarcadero. Tons of classes, both aerobic and swim, personal trainers, heavy bag and they even have an Internet computer room with eleven computers. Full basketball court and big screen TV lounge, many childrens programs and always very clean. The members are mostly upscale with just the occasional crazy homeless person who just breaks up the monotony. I hang out there all day sometimes. Almost forgot to mention the bay view from the weight & machine room, the steam room and sauna. Post office across the street and many restaurants from Japanese, Mexican to very upscale on the corner. Close (1 block) to 14, F and Market Street bus lines and Bart/Muni station, all just a short walk away. Hyatt is two blocks plus other nice hotels further up Market Street.
Awesome for bike commuters. Superb people at the front desk (truly standouts), unusually secure bike rack on the 5th floor, gym/pool/shower, nice but inexpensive breakfast at Perrys next door.
Friendly staff and patronsGood swimming pool swim lessons from.Mohammed are awesomeGymn has cardio machines and all types of equipment
I like the view of the bay while exercising.Free towels are available. There is lots of equipment. The locker room is spacious.
I recently joined the Y mainly because they offer affordable swimming lessons.Everything have been great so far! The staff and instructors are nice and knowledgeable. Showers and locker rooms are always clean and never crowded, same as the workout machines.
The staff at the Embarcadero YMCA is phenomenal. This is a great place to workout. If you have never been to one you can try it for free for a day at the SF YMCA locations, info is on their website. Also membership prices are very affordable and the benefits consist of much more than just gym facilities. Oh and its right next door to Google!
Love the yoga room. Really nice gym overall
The staff are friendly and welcoming, and the facilities are great. It doesnt have fancy showers like the Equinox, but I dont really care about that - I care that for $78/month I get access to a 25m pool, a large array of cardio and weights equipment, and a ton of classes. Honestly would have to be one of the best value gyms in the city.
Increasing my review a star due to the recent renovations in the locker room. The staff is super friendly, consistent, so thats appreciated. BUT, for what were paying in monthly dues, each, there should NEVER be a lack of tissues in the locker rooms--theyre empty at least twice a week, and its just silly that they cant seem to keep them stocked. Annoying.
Staff is incredible. Honestly cant emphasize that enough. Location is awesome. Amenities are really nice. Gold standard location for the Y.
Very friendly staff and knowledgeable trainers. Its easy to book a trainer or swimming lesson (in the Olympic sized pool). Theres a huge class schedule and a decent weight room with upgraded machines. The best feature is that you can workout on a machine and look over the Bay - which no other gym in the city can offer.
A gym with Bay views from the treadmills. Fully equipped with the latest gear but also with old school weights and machines. Plus there is a swimming pool, a hot tub and sauna. Wide selection of classes as well. Could be the best gym downtown.
Staff is wonderful, very helpful and friendly. equipment is new and well maintained. locker room is nice and big - you never feel like youre on top of one another. Very happy with this YMCA
Awesome Y community in a great location. Great gym, even greater services for families. Youth Chance High School also lives here and provides a High School diploma to those who cant attend a traditional High School.
Excellent, staff and facilities. A full array of strength training equipment is particularly good as the Berkeley Y has just gotten rid of 75% of theirs. Oh and the view from the ellipticals/treadmills out over the Bay is sweet.
The Embarcadero Y staff are the best! They really care about their members. Its also a great gym, complete with a beautiful pool and full court basketball, and with the recent renovations the workout floor is beautiful!
Great place to workout, a bunch of equipments, large area, lots of classes, and great staff! Highly recommend!*avoid Mondays and Tuesdays around 6ish if you dont like to wait to use cardio.
I love working out in a safe and clean environment. The staff and trainers are excellent in their craft. My Aqua Aerobics teacher (Mary) is truly awesome! SeeYa There! The YMCA Embarcadero!
This place is warm and friendly. Offer many classes. Very inviting for new people. Summer camp is an amazing experience for kids!!
You cant find a better gym in downtown for the money. I go to the spin classes which are as good as soulcycle and flywheel (more cycling focused which I like). They have a basketball court which attracted me at first but I dont really play anymore (trying to avoid injuries). The locker room is large, well organized and has a nice sauna and steam room. The weights can get crowded sometimes but theyre expanding that area so Im hopeful that will improve as well. The rest of the classes are top notch as well. While the Y isnt the fanciest gym, its definitely great and this location is the best of the bunch.
While vacationing to San Francisco, stopped by YMCA in the morning and was greeted and welcomed so Professionally! My family felt right at home, we were given clean towels, hot chocolate and the best service.
Terrible.... fecies in the hot tub, condoms in the showers, and theft...Public shower for homeless, who sleep on the rooftop during the day and harass people just outside. For the price that you pay here, there are way more upscale gyms. Staff here is rude, and really dont care about what goes on. I stopped going and decided to just donate.
The place is nice, but the swimming pool is a big NO. They definitely didt test the chemicals often, so my nose was feeling very uncomfortable. The pool is not deep at all, so it is like for kids. Will never visit again.☹️
Very nice staff and great basketball games. 5 stars for sure. every other gym in SF a COMPLETE RIP OFF.
YMCA in S.F. is great. There sauna is hot! Very good work out and friendly atmosphere.
Wonderful community, great workout room, and very conveniently timed exercise classes. I love the spinning and yoga classes at the Y, and the body positive everyone is welcome spirit of the place is wonderfully uplifting.
I wasn’t sure, 10 years ago, if I’d adapt well to this Y after the Central Y closed its pool. I worried that the vibe might be too aggressive, with harried Financial District and tech employees scrambling to get in a workout before their train/ferry/bus leaves. I was wrong: the swimmers are generally very easygoing yet respectful of appropriate lane speed and etiquette. The aspect of swimming with windows and daylight (the old Central Y pool was in a basement) was refreshing, and since you can look out one the frolicking dolphins sculpted on the Art Deco building across the street, you never feel alone in the pool. The hours are great - I can always get laps in, between 5:30 am and 9:45 pm: there’s always a few lanes open even when the swim team or lessons take one or two lanes. The lifeguards make it all work, though. They have a great way of keeping the area safe and positive, politely helping people of different abilities find the best lane, and keeping it all flowing so everyone gets what they want from a pool. Guards like Mike, Tom, Hailey, Sofia, Lise, Miguel, Juan, Emily, Nina, Kareem and Evan are only a few of the crew I know by name and face that manage the facility so well: Jimmy (and Mohammed and Colby before him) have overseen a great team.I swim so regularly now that it’s hard to imagine someone knowing the pool better than I do...and hard to imagine a facility that works as well for what I need as this one.
Friendly Staff, Great place to Swim n Use the Hot tub n Steam room, Sauna..
Great place. Amazing food!
Gym has scenic views of Bay bridge. The steam room and dry sauna room is well maintained. The pool gets crowded during evenings.
Membership costs $70 per month as of writing, but its worth it if you attend the group classes at least twice a week. The variety of group classes is pretty impressive and there are usually 2-3 group classes going on during the weeknights: body pump, body kombat, core conditioning, cycling, boot camp, yoga. What really seals the deal for me is the access to a lap pool which most gyms dont have. The location is just a few minutes walk from Embarcadero BART, so its accessible to those working or living in downtown. All in all, just like any gym, if you use the membership, then it will be worth the money you pay for.
My gym for 3 years. good price and nice community.
Heated pools, sauna, steam room. They also offer yoga, pilates, Zumba and martial arts as part of their membership. Treadmills are in front of the waters and you get the view of the bay bridge.
Like this Gym for the classes and the facility itself. A lot of good quality equipment, it is clean and the staff is super friendly. Highly recommend it.
Nice cozy clean very convenient
Great summer day camp! They go on field trips, swim, play games and learn. Best summer ever!
Been a member of the Embarcadero Y for over 8 years and really love it.friendly staff (e.g, Dan & Jolson) and a pretty clean locker room. An excellent gym with all the amenities one would want (including a basketball court with hardcore players and a swimming pool). A lot of cyclists use the facilities here.
Great location on the Embarcadero. Views of the Bay and Bay Bridge. Has a pool and wide range of classes!
My favorite work out place views of Bay Bridge and nice nice people.
This is the first Y Ive had a membership at. Before this one Id always been a little skeptical about YMCAs and their cleanliness, but this one change my thinking forever. It is very clean, has really nice people both working and working-out there, and there are a lot of classes with excellent instructors.
Pretty decent facilities for the best price in SF. Specially for those looking for a full size pool
Exceptionally friendly staff who care about the Y, the community, and your health and fitness. Reasonably priced for good facilities with a fantastic view.
Nice location with smiles from the staff.
Its a nice YMCA located in a good area
Those rare days when you need to treadmill instead of run outside, you get a sweet view of the bay bridge.
Super clean and modern facilities. The pool gets crowded but people are friendly and its easy to find a Lane at your speed.
Cybex and Precor as well as good ol LifeFitness cardio machines! Gym is not super meat-markety or intimidating for older or non-spandex friendly folx. Only thing i wish would be more Black and Brown lead instructors for group exercise (me being an older Black person). Basic yoga is truly basic level, but the one Vinyasa 1 class i attended (Saturday AM, substitute from the usual instructor) was not beginner friendly. Friday 1pm Zumba class is VERY all levels friendly while also keeping a good pace for more experienced folx.
Membership is awesome, something 4 everyone 2 enjoy..yayyyyy
The best YMCA facility in terms of location, friendly staff, cleanliness, gorgeous view, new modern equipments and amazing pools.
I like taking TRX class there and other classes of window view
Clean, good classes (variety and quality), new equipment, helpful staff, did I mention clean??
Great place, great equipment, amazing crew. What else could you ask for?
More pricy than the other Ys but you can work out (treadmill or stairmaster thingy) and watch sailboats on the SF Bay! Also, womens has both wet and dry sauna. Clean gym and common areas. Friendly helpful staff!
Little old but good if you are just visiting
Nice friendly place, good pool (2 sections)
Kind of a funky facility, but the staff are incredibly friendly. This is the cheapest gym with a pool in this part of the city.
This Y is tough to get to (and expensive) if you drive to the city.On top of this, their free weights area is tiny and equipment is terrible. The focus of this Y is definitely cardio (as evidenced by a plethora of treadmills and 25 meter swimming pool). The always-booked basketball court makes it difficult to give them an ok rating.
Great people at the front desk and solid place to work out.
Excellent friendly staff, great pool facilities and classes offered
Without words. Simple irresistible and Excellent...
Solid gym, but some seedy characters lurkin..
Very well equipped, multiple parking garages across the street
Pleasant, helpful staff and nice facilities. Close to Embarcadero BART.
Nice and helpful staff, clean facility, good hours, great location and great programs.
I love this gym and very much disagree with recent comments regarding price and work out space. To begin with, I lived in Monterey for over 15 years and the Monterey Sports Center 5 or so years ago was more expensive then at that time than this Y is now, and the Embarcadero Y is very comparable in every way, including a pool. In terms of location, granted, if you dont live in the City, it will be, like most any other place here, a bit of a challenge in terms of commute and parking. But if you live here, its located in an excellent location with more than several transportation options, for example the 5 bus stops at Spear and Mission which is about 3 blocks from the Y, and the 6, 21 buses stop on Steuart, again within a block of the facility. You can also take the F train that stops as well within a block of the facility, and the 38 bus stops near Main a few blocks from the facility ...bad location...seriously?...go to LA if you think this is tough. For a city of around 800K....you cant beat this. I very much recommend this facility. In terms of space, I never feel cramped or crowded and the free weights areas are plenty roomy, and all the equipment (as well as the facility) are well maintained, current, and very clean. I have been to gyms in LA, Seattle, and here in SF, and in terms of value, location, quality of equipment, maintenance, cleanliness...for the price....truly well worth it.
The YMCA has always been there for me. I dont agree with everything they do. The YMCA has been in that same historical building for over 100 years so any changes you suggest that involve a bigger this or a bigger that will never change beyond the dimensions of that building. They are very proud of that tenant record.Anyway I have enjoyed the unceasing human, encouraging, and sincere first-name rapport with them on a daily basis. Also some members will report that they have tried other gyms but find the YMCA has the best average value of overall service and quality of life while using their gym. That being said I have utilised their dry sauna, their steam room, their jacuzzi, their swimming pool, their sundeck on the roof (nap science!) and soon their Yoga programs to help me build a stronger body (core) for the art of singing.I dont do free weights but they have alot of freeweights and machines. Not to mention free roaming specilalists who can help you design a personal track of your own if you want it and wont bug you if you dont. They also do alot of fundraising for those applying with economic hardships and will help you out trying to make your way in one of the most expensive cities to live in the country.
The best place to work out in San Francisco.
Rude and indifferent front desk staff. If you do intend to visit the location, make sure to have a physical photo ID even if you were NOT told you would need one, otherwise youll be treated like a felon and denied entrance.
This place has everything and it is great for your health.
Friendly staff... Towels... A pool... A swimsuit water extractor... Showers... Free weights and even a terrace overlooking embarcadero.
Really a nice place ... to work out !!!
25 meter swimming pool and decent weights room
