Rental car center at San Francisco Airport is conveniently accessed via the airtrain system. Counters are on a different floor than the train but signage was clear. I had pre registered so the process was fast and there was not a hard sell for the extra insurance.(I used Budget)Be aware however that San Francisco uses a pass system for tolls so the rental companies charge a fee for the use of their trackers.The cars were lined up in alphabetical rows, keys ready to go.The return process was again easy and quick except that the signage in the building was unclear. Staff members pointed us to the correct drop off area. No counters upon return. Staff examined the car and printed out the receipt on the spot.Again, the rental areas were at different levels than the airtrain . No big deal.All told, it was a good experience!

SFO is a big airport. The walk from the terminal to baggage claim is a pretty long walk. It is okay for adult traveler, but for families with kid it might be. This airport is renovated since the last time Ive been here. The aogn are very intuitive.

I wish it wasn’t so far from all the terminals but that’s only when you have kids and traveling with your own car seats. Both pickup and return were fundamentally easy!

As always National is the best. Did everything to accommodate me. They really take good care of their Executive elite members. I am satisfied every single week and today, once again, they went above my expectations. There’s absolutely no reason to go with any other company!

The people working the Dollar/Thrift rental counter were fine. It was the 3 hr wait to get a car I had a reservation for that was ridiculous. They took reservations for more cars than they had. Not a great way to start a vacation

Again. Excellent. I recommend Hertz, Dollar, Alamo, and Thrifty. Be sure to go online first for best deals. Go without the GPS, and satellite radio they offer. You can access these using your smartphone! Look your rental over(prior to)driving off and be sure to take pictures too. Usually, where you’ll be picking up your rental, the venue lacks proper lighting so be aware.

We went with Hertz the Thursday before fourth of July weekend. They had less than half their computer stations operating, it took us 40 minutes waiting in a line and then another 20 minutes at the counter! The manager only came out after the computer failed, but I feel like he should have been out there working the line the whole time, helping customers get out sooner. He never spoke to us to explain what the problem was, what he was doing to fix it, how much longer it would take & he never apologized. An hour at the rental counter is completely unacceptable. The agent who helped us did apologize & I think he was doing the best he could. But this was a SUPER unpleasant experience.

Great. As long as you arent stuck in the airport late at night needing a rental carOnly one business opened at 530am(actually more like 550). Alamo, dont bother after midnight or before 530.

The staff was nice but why? There was only one staff on duty even though there was long line. I dont think this office cares about customer service. I give 3 stars because this company was cheaper.

Nice service . We booked with budget and reached about 1 am .. we couldn’t find any representative in ground floor .. we waited for 10 mins and then went to 3rd floor for budget. Wish we knew it before.. also.. there is no shuttle service .. it’s an AirTran going from terminals to the rental station.. we didn’t know that too.. attaching a photo which shows the air train stops.. Marginal rental center - always hard to get to and from airport trains. Escalators seem to be broken all the time.

I used budget the employee was not helpful. Usually at car rental places they explain everything throughly. Also the man didnt have no type of smile on his face. They need better customer service.

Is good off-site rental facility. The rapid checkout is not functional. If youre planning to get out fast plan on stopping like usual.

Long wait to pick up the car. In an attempt to upsell us to a full sized car, the agent flat out lied about the lack of space in a compact car for 4 adults with carry on suitcases. We had adequate room in the rear seats, and could easily fit 6 carry ons in the trunk of the compact car. Shame on you Thrifty!

Set up for COVID is very safe. The staff not overly friendly to a lot of us. They seem more inconvenienced by us than helpful. My hope is it was just the fear of COVID. The check-in process was simple but when you try to find your car pay attention to the hidden signage we got lost a couple of times trying to find the garage. check out was super convenient and simple when we returned the guy was very nice and helpful. The cashiers should take note from him and his customer service skills.

How ignorant do you have to be to try and tell someone that the car youre trying to rent them is an SUV !!!! The car on the right in the picture is what they charged me an SUV price for, when I got to it I promptly went back and told them it was a car and showed them the picture. They replied with its a small SUV and changed it for a Kia Sportage

Quick service. Car was a bit meh. The tires were balding and clearly the previous occupants were smokers. Not worth the effort to go back and exchange cars.

After some difficulty at some of the other locations, the airport crew really were impressive. They took great care of us and helped us get going quickly.

National - great service!

Only Hertz was open, and they had 2-3 people working a 50 foot line with a manager going around and trying to convince people to sign up for the premium club instead of helping with the line.

Some companies are not there. You have to take a bus to them making it a 2 connection hop. Heck, Id have been better off taking UBER!. OH and the companies that are there, JACK THEIR PRICES BECAUSE OF IT...I mean JACK UP their prices

Clearly marked just a long way to travel in the airport complex. The airport is quite large though. Pay attention to the signs and youll get there.

Very confusing place bad signage, expensive prices and mediocre service. If you can rent a car someplace else youll have a better experience. But sometimes you just have to get a car at the airport and get the heck out, and you will pay for that.

Completely sucks! Sam at the alamo desk was rude. They dont try to actually help at all. Rather it seems they do what they can to not help! Worst experience at a rental yet!

Great price but very long lines to wait in.

I have been a regular renter from this location. Tried almost every brand such as Dollar, Enterprise, Alamo. Very convenient due to Air Train to/from BART. Some of the companies do not have their counters there but they operate shuttle to and from here to their offices such as NU, Payless etc. Easy drop off. Rates are also very economical compared to other locations such as San Jose Airport, Oakland Airport and locations within cities.

It is an airport rental car center. Whats to say really? No complaints from me. It is clean and easy enough to navigate, once you have been there a couple of times.

Dollar rental take forever….

Very easy to figure out how to use the tram from terminals to the rental cars. If you are at a terminal and need to rent a car, make sure you jump on the blue line. The red line only loops to the terminals in the opposite direction. The signs are clearly marked if you have questions. You will need to go up 3 floors from baggage claim to get to the trams. Signs clearly marked to help guide you.

Easy to get to from airport by train even though it is pretty far out. Pickup is smooth for Avis Preferred members with helpful staff and convenient setup in the garage. No gas stations close by so gas up early or pay for full up at the rental agency. Return entrances not easy to find for specific agencies as airport passenger remote drop off/pick-up are in the same place.

Good customer service. I had not trouble with reserving or getting the car I wanted. All of the cars was in great condition like it should be. The location is not bad either. I would recommend it to a friend for sure! Totally liked it!

Thrifty/Dollar car rental charged me $450 for extra insurance coverage that I never asked for nor did they ask if I wanted the insurance to begin with. I already had the $5 a day insurance which is more than enough especially considering I have my own car insurance anyway. So why would I or anyone for that matter, ask for or give permission to receive a $450 supplemental insurance when that person (me) has full coverage in the 1st place.This review was started and initially posted in September 2019. Still no response.My advice? Use Enterprise. They are pretty awesome and I rent more than average.PS(to dollar/thrifty): I hope the $450 was worth my never doing business with you again.

Been here couple times for rental car whenever my husband & I want to rent a car for South Cal or long drive for vacation. Line moves fast & great car slection. The earliest you get your car better selection but the waiting time to get your car at a counter is longer as less staff works at early morning.

No problems drive up and walk away

Rented a car at San Francisco, California airport very pleased with the rental.San Francisco Airport needs to do something about the long walks with your luggage to the rental cars.They need some type of riding little carts to take you to the trolley car that takes you to the rental cars. The walk is so long and hard when youre pulling luggage. Very disappointed that an airport that big does not have someone to drive you in those riding carts.Very difficult for individuals that are having problems walking later in the evenings. The airport is still busy but no help. Get some ideas from the Phoenix Airport theyre wonderful. They accommodate visitors needs San Francisco Airport doesnt.

Place is empty. San Francisco is dead. Businesses boarded up over a false narritive.

Best thing about this car rental is the connection with airport. This car rental is connected through rail which arrives every 15 minutes and it will stop by all the terminals.

We had the worst experience with Budget car rental. When we made reservations we couldnt do the express rental where you just get the car and drive away. After a 6 hour flight we went to get the car and waited over an hour in a LONG line. The employees were slow and only a couple registers were open. They send us to the parking garage to get the car and its gone! They gave it to somebody else. We flagged down an employee in the garage he didnt seem to want to help. He just said go back inside and wait in line again. No way are we waiting again in that line! Thanks for helping jerk. I wish I got his name. So then we ask a lady and she had no clue. Luckily another nice employee saw what was going on and he got us another car. We saw others upset their cars were gone too. They over sold and were trying to find cars. Next time I will pay more and go with another company. The other lines had a lot of cashiers and small line.

There are no seats for seniors or the disabled from the rental return to the tram. SMH #ADA

Had a long wait to get the car upon arrival. Once I got to the counter it was fairly quick. Be aware if you pre purchase fuel its a full tank, not what you use. My last trip I bought a full tank of gas and only went about 20 miles in an expedition. I should have paid better attention.

Crowded, stuffy, and unwelcoming space

Mar was AWESOME! Fast, efficient, and funny. When we left a half a case of bottled water he and his co-worker were super appreciative. They were helpful and friendly and respectful. Couldnt have gone smoother!

Car drop off is nice and fast (with National, at least), but getting from the rental car center to the terminals takes a solid 15 minutes spread across multiple elevator/escalator trips and a slowly trudging train, all connected by a series of rather poor signage. Arrive early!

Getting a car reservation is pretty painless but getting checked out and back to the airport terminals can be downright aggravating! Give yourself a bunch of extra time when bringing the car back! The overall layout is poor since youre always forced to use too few elevators crammed in un-obvious places. Ive witnessed worse - but also a LOT better.

Fox Rental car apparently has no qualms about being completely misleading, and lying about insurance options. Christina had no regret that she conned me into unnecessary, additional, duplicative insurance coverage. She must have sociopathic leanings to not feel bad about what she does.

Ive traveled to many cities and the SF rentals are well designed for an airport of this size. The counter is a free tram ride from the airport and all the major rental facilities are together. Helpful staff when I was there, open late and early. Easy access to surface roads and highway.

You need a credit card to rent a car at the airport not debit, if you dont have one dont waste your time going cuz u wont walk out with a rental.

FOX Car Rental was the bees knees. Easy to get to and easy to drop off.

The service was impeccable with Avis. Jay was so understanding about the flight change I had and gave me useful tips about about California and places to visit.

I recently rented a car from them. I realized I forgot my rain jacket in the back seat. I tried to call them shortly after I returned the car and nobody picked up the phone. Tried again two days later, a Sunday, and they said they had no jacket. Directed me to a website. Dont leave anything here. The employees steal.

It seems like the thing now. The airports I have been too have put all the car rental companies in their own building not to far away.This one, at least you can get on the air tram and get there.

Its a very large airport, and everything is far apart and directions are sometimes confusing.However, compared to other huge airports they do a pretty good job, wait times are ok. My experience is in terminal 2. It is modern and spacious. Good food selections. Clean and well maintained.

Many self-rental kiosks from a few majors available.Beware of the small timers rates are volatile.Know what youre doing on insurance its not the same in CA. As for me, when Im in town youll find me at Enterprise. If you go with them tell them TomC sent you.

It had probably been 20 years since I had flown out of SFO. It is so much bigger now. They did not have the shuttle train when I last used it. Luckily my wife had used it a few times recently for business trips, so it made the experience of getting to the rental cars and to the airport pain free. We have used a couple different services now, and some are certainly better than others, in regard to the upkeep of the vehicles.

Wish it was not so far away. Being handicapped makes it difficult to get on the team, transfer to a building, then finally get your cars parking space and need to get their on your own!

Frequent traveler here. San Francisco is one of my favorite airports to travel through. I flew into Oakland as Im often delayed flying into SFO because of weather. But SFO Car Rental Center is so very convenient! There is a Valero gas station on S. Airport Blvd. Only 1.5 mile from Rental Center. You return your car and jump on the Air Train (free) which is connected to the rental center and enjoy your ride and views directly to the terminals. There are multiple stops and the overhead announces each terminal as you go. Lean against a rail or grab a pole as the ride is a bit bumpy and my even jossle you a bit at certain points. It is very safe! The blue line which is the line that goes from the rental center to the terminal, makes a complete circle around all terminals before returning to the rental center. The Red line only circles the airport terminals. Both lines make a stop where you can hop off and catch a ride on the BART. The convenience off the Air Train makes this rental center my favorite! Besides the efficiency of the Car Rental companies. Most airport Rental centers offer shuttles to the Car Rental companies or a walk to rental facilities. SFO Rental Car Cemter is the best!!! National is my favorite company there. If you are an Emerald Member (Free) they show you to a row of cars you reserved from and YOU choose your own car! Thats the best! Just make sure you walk around your respective rental car and check for dings and scracthes or any kind of damage. Make sure your fuel tank is FULL. Then head to the Exit and declare any damage. Remeber to check the roof on higer vehicles incase the person before you damaged the roof. This is not always checked so better to find it before you leave with the rental. Noted damaged clears you of responsibility.
