Paid $15 on Groupon for all day bike rental (originally $20, had promo code)Both employees before and after bike ride were helpful and nice, all smiles. The bikes worked great, very easy ride (except hills of course, not the bikes fault I couldnt make it up). I like that it comes with a pouch on front to store a water bottle/phone and also comes with a bike lock.
Great way to see the city. Had a bunch of fun with my husband! Next time I will definitely go for the electric bike! The tours also looked awesome and the staff was super helpful and friendly. Thank you guys see you again soon!
Great experience and the one rental shop I could find near Golden Gate park that had electric bikes (power assist). I wanted to explore the park leisurely but travel at a decently quick rate to get to the different main areas, which meant I didnt want to walk around the entire park on foot, but I also didnt want to kill myself biking up hills - power assist is perfect! (Later I found out the park also has free shuttles every 15min, so Ill definitely look more into that option the next time). The woman at the front was very nice, I booked online to make sure they wouldnt run out of power assist bikes, and everything went smoothly for me.The reason for the 1-star deduction is simply due to their closing time, which is solely a note towards management: It would have been much nicer if hours could be extended to 8:30pm, especially for non-winter hours. Or even better, have an after-hours drop off. There was so much to see in the park but we had to constantly keep track of the time to make sure we returned the bikes before closing. The woman said there is another location on Fishermans Wharf that closed at 8pm, but given how far away they are it would take us nearly the whole hour just to get over there (although I suspect that return location is primarily for folks taking the ferry back from Sausalito.) The only slight annoyance I had with the woman at the store regarding closing time was that she told us the closing time was 7pm (which was also written on the board behind her), but we found out later it was actually 7:30pm and they just want all bikes back by 7pm. Because we would have never considered returning a bike at the exact time of closing, we had planned to be back by 6:30pm. But I understand many other people arent as considerate, and I could have also mentioned to her that I was planning on being back by 6:30 and then hopefully she would have clarified, so Ill take a bit of that blame too.
****DO NOT RENT FROM HERE****Hands down the worst customer service I have ever experienced.Their electric bicycle broke down and no one informed us that there was road side assistance. Yes I googled the phone number and a very rude female answered the phone and was not accommodating. Everyone I spoke to was rude and did not care about the inconveniences they caused. To top it off they charged my credit card with $80 without my permission and somehow no one from this company can get back to me to tell me what this charge was for. This place is shady. Do not waste your time here.
We upgraded to the performance bikes because our sales person recommended them for hills. They were definitely better than the base bikes, however he wasnt knowledgeable about routes to take at all and told us our path had some hills when it turned out to be very hilly. Two out of the three bikes had locks that didnt work, and the third bikes rear brake fell off half way through. When we got back and told him this, he didnt seem to care, and didnt reduce our price until we basically forced him to. Poor customer service, but decent bikes (unless theyre broken).
Very helpful staff, great prices and deals, everything you would need!Thinking about becoming a member.
I was looking forward to using Bay City Bike Rentals.I rented two bikes from them at Golden Gate Park. At the time of rental, both bikes were fine. By the time we got to our first hill, we discovered that one bike was horribly out of tune. The derailleur didn’t work, the chain kept popping off the gears, and the front wheel went at a different angle than the handle bars. When we finally got back to the shop (earlier than intended), this company wouldn’t discount the rental, or even own the problem. They said they’d “look into it”, even after I brought attention to the problem with the clerk, and over e-mail.Choose another rental company.
I had a horrendous experience at Haight Street. When I returned my bike, the gentleman who was working told me the key was missing from the handlebars. I informed him that there never was a key on the handlebars in the first place and that I hadnt used the lock during the entire trip. He said Thats not my problem...and shrugged. He said he was going to charge me $15 extra for the key. I was irritated by his demeanor and complete disregard for my position in this matter. When I pressed him about the issue, he immediately told me to get out of his store. I informed him I wanted a receipt for the charge, and he refused. He told me again to leave and threatened to call the police. Although I was agitated, I never used any foul language toward him and he had no right to threaten me. This terrible exchange over a measly $15 ruined what was a lovely day biking around the city. There are many better options to seek around the city.
Bait n switch! We booked a Golden Gate tour online but when we got there they said it was a Golden Gate Park tour and had to take an uber to another location for a later tour or take the bikes by on our own for the day. Will not be booking anymore tours with them and we are here for a whole week and plan on doing more tours.
We simply had a very bad bike, transmission gear parts were simply not working. Our two hour tour was just a nightmare. No discount proposed. I dont recommend this shop.
So GREAT experience at the store. This young woman who had been in SF her whole life took the time to everything right with me, was warm, welcoming, just fantastic. At the end however, I forgot to return the key and so I got on the web to track down the store since I had paid cash, on 05.03.16, just a few days later. First off, you cant call the stores independently (brilliant business decision) so you are routed to the same store or headquarters no matter what. Second, one would think that if they were going to do this theyd manage to put someone on the other end of the phone who wasnt a total prick, and who didnt act like they didnt know what place I was talking about as to store location when I mispronounced Haight street. I tried to explain that since I didnt have the receipt I couldnt be sure of the store name but I was extremely sure I could describe in detail who was working there all day on 5/1/16.He would have none of it. Wouldnt confirm that a girl was working that day (or just didnt care), wouldnt try to find out for me, wouldnt try calling the store or the person working there, and could generally have cared less about the entire situation even though I explained that I didnt want it to be her fault for the key since it was in fact mine. Total d-head. You know, I write this because he was literally the only person that I came into contact with during or after the trip that was anything less than extraordinarily nice to me the entire trip which was just two days but during which I came into contact with about fifty people because I was surveying the place as a possible college choice for my daughter who couldnt make it out there at the last minute and so I was interviewing just about everyone as to safety etc anyway; you tend to forget how important customer service is until you get someone like this on the other end of the phone.
DO NOT COME HEREThe pedal fell off the bike while on our ride. Had to pay $100 in repairs out of pocket and their claims department will take a month to respond and only refunds up to $20, despite telling us to go get the repair ourselves. TERRIBLE service, do not recommend to anyone.
If I could have given this place negative stars, I would have. The business is run by unprofessional individuals. You’re better off going to another bike rental place.
So nice, very laid back and friendly staff. Great bikes. The groupon we purchased online was worth every penny!
Nice downhill ride into Golden Gate Park only to discover bike wouldnt climb slightest hill due to worn-to-nubs derailer teeth. Pushed it back the mile to rental location and lady insisted on full charge, blaming me for not calling number on bike and waiting for someone to come to replace it! Her reply was terse and polished, shed clearly used it before. Id avoid this org like the plague!
The lady that helped us was very friendly and helped us choose the right bikes for our ride. We had a groupon which made the price look even better. No issues with mine or my wifes bike. Very close to Golden Gate Park.

31$ for 24 hour rental friendly staff good prices
No stars. Employee knowingly rented a bike that was flagged for problems. Seems pretty dishonest to me. I would never rent from this company again.
Friendly Service, Good Bikes, Good ValueWe were a little cautious, because of previous reviews, but the bikes were in a good condition and we had no problem at all. The staff was very friendly as well.
Very good Service, friendly and helpfull staff.
Couldn’t rent here because they where out of bikes, but supernice guy!
Great quality bikes, friendly staff!
Ive been cheated and paid double price :(
